Hello,
I have the LG990, I tried to use the usb tethering function but failed.
I am using windows 7. I installed LG united USB driver 3.7 from LG websites.
LGUnitedMobileDriver S4981MAN37AP22 ML WHQL Ver 3.7.2.exe
Then I enable the USB tethering feature on the andriod 2.3. I can see the USB NDIS network adapter in "device manger" of windows 7.
Then I use cmd to ping the ip of the phone, and can get reply.
But when I tried to ping "google.com", through this network, I cant get reply.
My phone connect to internet through wifi. But I dont think this matter as long as I can use the default browser in android to connect to internet. Am I right?
I wonder if I miss any steps, or LG990 in fact, does not support USB tethering.
Please kindly help me if you know how to solve the problem, thanks a lot!
FYI, I went to LG CS in HK, they told me that they did not have any OS with windows 7, they suggested me bringing the computer to their office or format the computer and try again....
Mention the ROm and Kernel you are using.

thanks for your suggestion, i tried to use" safe mode with networking", but same situation as "normal mode".
Btw, I also changed the property of LGE androidnet ndis ethernet adaptor -> advanced -> " set the physical NIC to promiscuous mode" to enable, but still failed to use tether.
Also, the "tether" network appear to be" local only".I dont know if I need to fix the IP or DNS of the "tether network" to something?
Also, is that something wrong with my kernel version or LG default rom did not install right package in kernel?
Thanks for advice!
No it should work with stock rom also.
Which main connection you are trying to tether? Wifi/3g?

well first, try the latest version and see if it works for you: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
if not, you can download the one that most people say works: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_1_70-pre2_htc.apk
ahh neither work. the 2nd one says root privelages are needed... did i root wrong?? or am i just missing somthing so simple.

I was FINALLY able to get wifi tether working with:
Eris_Official 0.8T2 by ivanmmj (upgraded from .7 didn't factory wipe, did dalvik wipe)
wireless_tether_2_0-pre10.apk
Sprint radio 2.42.00.03.10 released on 4-4-10 -- make sure to *228 after flashing
help..?
is the third step mandatory..? (the radio flash)
I wouldn't flash your radio .....its not necessary
Whats up there. I have found that the first link that gohamstergo posted works for my Eris. You may want to check your root. Also if you do root properly you should get the use of your track ball back. I'm using the wireless app right now to send this email. Good luck. I am currently running Kaosfroyo V39 on my Eris. Love it.
FUNK!!
ok i can install all fo the tether apks (obviously not all at once) and they all seem to work fine and my computer recognizes the phones network and the phone shows that its sending data to the computer when talking to it to connect but then says unidentified network no internet access. so they talk to each other but the phone isnt passing on its connection. any idea how i can fix this?

In Windows under Device Manager does it list in the Network section a RDNIS driver when the phone is plugged in and tethered? Or is the RDNIS driver listed as no driver installed? If no driver is installed, download the latest drivers from HTC at http://developer.htc.com/. It's the very last file at the very bottom.
You'll have to right-click the uninstalled RDNIS device in Device Manager and choose to update driver, then direct it to look for it where you extract the zip from the above link.
This is all assuming that you're talking about wired tethering.
Edit: Sorry, I forgot this is a WIFI tethering thread. Don't know, then. What ROM are you running?
does anyone have any idea why i keep coming up with unidentified network? any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if anyone ever addressed this but if you are still running the stock kernel none of the wifi tethering apps will work. All of them require (to the best of my knowledge) iptables support in the kernel. Before trying to re-root I would try to flash a kernel supporting iptables (such as Conaps CFS kernel).
If you are having trouble with your scroll bar, I remember seeing somewhere in the forums a recovery that supported the hard input keys........

I have a rooted Droid Eris running CM7, and a Rooted Transformer running Prime 1.4
I had the same problem initially, of not being able to tether correctly because by default, Android does not support connecting to ad-hoc network.
I used adb to push a modified wpa_supplicant file to the transformer, which does allow it to see and connect to my Eris. BTW, I am using "Wireless Tether for Root" 2.07 on my Eris to create the ad-hoc network.
I have noticed one bug: You must disconnect the transformer from the Eris FIRST. Something really weird happens if you disable the tethering first.. it says its disabled but the Transformer will remain connected to it, and tethering gets stuck on and kills the Eris battery even though the Eris itself will report that Tethering is stopped.
I just got my Note last week. I am trying to sync my phone to laptop. But somehow, it gets stuck on "connecting". Any tips or other alternatives? Thanks in advance. I plan on rooting my phone. Thats why I need to back up my phone first. Thanks in advance!
What OS are you using? Did you install the USB drivers?
Windows. Yes I in stalled it. But somehow it says that its not properly installed. And problems may occur. I dont know the reason. I tried, reinstalling it, but still same problem. Can I sync it wirelessly?
Hi.
I had the same problem, but it worked after I unchecked the USB Debugging.

Your problem is most probably the usb debugging uncheck it and your phone is in kiesmode

Try uninstalling, downloading from the country website your phone is from. Or your csc is from. Download from the N7000 page kies. Then install and run as admin. If it doesnt connect perform the connection wizard, or connection troubleshooting. that will reinstall drivers. These steps work for me everytime.

Do a software update over wifi for your phone and downdload the latest kies from official website.

Kies Air doesn't do that. The main (PC) KIES app does. But, even if you connect through KIES, it will only allow you to back up things like contacts, photos, ringtones etc. It won't be a full backup of your system.
What can help if KIES doesn't see your phone:
1. Installing the latest version of KIES (which you already did)
2. Making sure your phone is in the MTP (not USB memory) mode. It should be as a default, unless you actually click on "USB memory" button when connecting to PC
3. Unchecking "USB debugging"
4. Running the connection repair wizard in KIES (I have a local language version, so I don't know the exact English name) - this reinstalls drivers - and then connecting again.
5. Trying a different USB port or cable
6. Rebooting both the phone and computer
If all fails, then probably this is a problem with Windows drivers. Repairing this would require a bit of expertise and involves booting Windows in safe mode, checking which devices and drivers are actually installed and removing any that seem suspicious. If you have never done that, an easier option would be installing KIES on another computer and doing the backup there.
Theoretically, running the connection repair wizard in KIES should clean and reinstall the right drivers for your phone, but in practice this doesn't always work as it should.
my note was flying out of my car window, now the display is gone for good ,.. and massively destroyed, my question is if there is any chance to look if the other hardware is working or not, start it and view with another thing then the display is there any chance to do that ??

You could try connecting it to a tv.
If the screen is totally smashed you wont have much control.
You can try adb.
.

If you are on a stock rom, and have no idea what ADB is, chances are you never switched on USB debugging, so couldn't use ADB anyway!

Is USB debugging turned on by any chance? If you've never heard of it, nevermind. If it is on, you can use adb to execute commands on your Note via your PC.
Is any method of communication turned on on your Note? Mobile network? Wifi? Have you tied texting/calling? Checked your router's logs? Whatsapp? Skype?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
The least you could do is hooking it up to a pc you've connected the Note to before and see if it get's detected at all. If it's not detected, get's detected as an unknown device or Windows fails to install drivers then the phone isn't booted properly and you probably have other hardware issues as well.
You can also install Kies and see if it recognizes your phone.
Thanks i connected via Windows this time and he found IT so far so good thanks for ur tip

I have the same problem... with rrgrrgs rom and also with N00BYs rom...
In settings i can see that battery is charging, but there is no notification regarding connecting as usb storage. If i select (in options) that during connecting to PC it should be as mass storage, it doesn't work neither
When i select, in dev settings, to leave screen ON during charging, it goes OFF (with charging from pc and using charger too!) - just like it is when not charging.
:< i don't like it
...and i can't install another drivers, because i'm on ubuntu...
With gingerbread everything works perfectly.
EDIT: OK... I was confused, because in rrgrrgs rom, baseband was recognized (or i saw something else, don't know, i'm confused a little bit now), so i left it be, but i saw that in noobys rom baseband is unknown. Using another pc with Microsoft creature I flashed baseband and now everything WORKS GOOD. So in my case, the baseband was the reason.
Hi guys,
I have had CM 9.1 installed for some time on my galaxy. I recently discovered that my IMEI is invalid. So I downgraded to a stock ROM 2.2 via Heimdall, then proceeded to upgrade to CM 10.
My IMEI problem was resolved and the installation went smooth. The only thing is, now I can't connect the phone to my PC.
When connecting via USB, nothing. No prompts, no drivers.
I'll just note that the cable is fine.
