Probably something went wrong during flashing. Try re-flashing after reading the instructions to flash that custom rom again ( just to check if you missed something)
As long as you can get into the recovery and download its not a huge problem

Hmm. Try this:
1) Remove battery, keep it out for 30 secs. then put the battery back in.
2) Try the 3 button combo ( Vol down + Center + Power) to get into download.
3) If you can get into download. Flash back to stock rom via odin.
4) Then re-root carefully and reflash your custom
BTW what custom rom are you trying?

That's cause the order is important.
Don't put you phone in download early on. I keep it off. First set up Odin on the pc, then put your phone in download > connect to pc> once recognized hit start.

Unable to reboot in download mode

I find my newly purchased tab 8.9 very laggy with the stock TouchWiz
Before returning it I wanted ti try the Overcome rom to see if it can get any smoother.
I carefully followed there instructions but I am unable to go past the downloading droid. once I validate with the right button volume, the tablet simply reboots.
Does anyone else have this issue?

Let me get this right: you sucessfully flashed Overcome, and want to ODIN but when you try to get in Download Mode, it reboots, is that it? If so, that's the first time I've heard this issue. How are you trying to enter Download Mode?

I see. The Overcome thread also has the CWM Recovery as a .zip file which is flashable through Stock Recovery (same procedure as flashing Root). You just put the file in your internal SDcard and flash away. If you still have doubts, read a little bit here, as I'm sure that will clear any doubts you might have.

Yes I have done that and I get to the menu with the droid blinking with "downloading" written under it. The issues is when I validate instead of showing the dowload menue it simply reboots...

Don't expect perfection from a port, ever (port = a ROM that's not native to the device). The motley kernel, along with UV can help you in the battery department.

Sorry to comeback to it but after having flashed a couple or ROM with CWM I want to come back to the stock rom using ODIN and I cannot enter the dowload menu.
My system right now is a stock ROM us retail P7310UEKHA flashed with CWM and CWM and I want to install a 3.2 stock ROM using ODIN.
The way I try to access the download menu is
1. Turn off the tab
2. wait 30 sec
3. restart with the down volume pressed
4. when the reaching the menu between recovery and dowloading. Select dowloading with the down volume button and validate with the up volume button.
Result: a black screen for 3 seconds and then the tab reboots

Thanks lupu666ro. I've tried installing stock Rom with CMW but nothing works. I have found very sparse info about nvflash. It looks like the solution but I'm a bit wary about tring this without a instructions. Could give me more info or point me to a tutorial
Thanks!
Still no luck...
So I have tried reflashing the stock US retail ROM and ran the EULA3 OTA update over it. I can't seem to figure this out.
The OTA update entered the download mode for a few seconds during the update so I am wondering if I don't simply have a locked bootloader.
I have made a video to show the problem: http://youtu.be/b09-x31ldbs

On the download warning screen you are hitting volume down, not up. Volume up is the button closest to the headphone jack..

Make sure that the custom rom you have use a kernel where the MMC_CAP_ERASE command is blocked. And if it wasnt blocked and you had done a factory reset or a wipe in the recovery then you might end up stuck in the odin when downgrading back to GB.
If its blocked then you can go ahead with the steps by sahil above.

You have to wipe data in case you face so issues. But as I was not aware of the process that ODIN flashed it successfully i can't advise you to wipe as ICS kernels are unsafe and can brick your device. Way to Go!!!

It was already on the GB kernel. I was at the setup screen when the problems happened. Sorry, I forgot to add that. I knew that you can't wipe data on an ICS kernel, when I flashed ROMs I would always flash abyss kernel and then wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, I just didn't know that it was this easy to go back to stock and unroot. Thank you so much for your help.
Wouldn't hold my breath for a stock ICS XSA (Australian) ROM, though.
ICS ROMs have been out for many regions since May, however still no sign of an Aussie one - I've been waiting as well.....

When u r on official/stock ICS, you need to flash/install safe kernels like Hydracore, Speedmode, Philz etc first..only then u should flash custom roms/wipe data/factory reset..so ur phone is now not going to recovery mode as well as download mode?

I think you have hard bricked ur phone.. this link explains about the eMMC brick bug http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1633938
If your phone is under warranty, you can try claiming warranty from Samsung..
your recovery, was is clockworkmod or android 3e?
How much was the battery before flashing the rom.?

This is why it makes sense to go through the forum, ask about and carefully read instructions before you do anything you are unsure of. Flashing a custom rom without root from stock ICS. That's the worst scenario I've seen. In any case, seems like you did hard brick your phone. If you're under Samsung warranty, send it to them, they will replace the chip. If you're not under warranty, you can try using some of the guides floating around, search for revive bricked phone, go through the threads and look at other people's results. But that's only if you're not under warranty, cause at this point you can't do anything else to make it worse.
