AOSP - Android Open Source Project - unmodified clean Android without additional features, vanilla Android
CM - CyanogenMod - an aftermarket firmware for a number of cell phones based on the open-source Android operating system. It offers features not found in the official Android based firmwares of vendors of these cell phones.
AOKP - Android Open Kang Project - something like CM, but different
Try to use Google, it will answer all your questions.

Hey all,
Just curious what the difference is between vanilla android and the one by cmod. I know they are both similar to the stock android OS but did not understand anything more than that. Can someone please elaborate?
Thank you.
not development related, please move to Q&A or General.
CyanogenMod is based on AOSP. AOSP = Android Open Source Project (android as google designed it). CyanogenMod makes improvements and changes and tweaks to AOSP.
it's all down to preference, but most people agree CM is an improved version of AOSP.
Hi all,
This is a noob question. What is the difference between an AOSP rom and an AOKP rom.

No.. pure android is vanilla..
Aosp like any other open source project adds improvements and twraks to pure android source which is what aokp, cm9 cna do. making them aosp . aokp just a name...

so in short
AOSP - Basic Android Source Project (no Customizations) like Oxygen
AOKP - Improved versions of AOSP like CyanogenMod??
and what's the difference between aosp roms and stock roms, besides e.g. preinstalled samsung apps?
aosp = android open source project
aokp = android open kang project (link https://sites.google.com/site/androidopenkangproject/)

It's not really about the Samsung/Sense apps more about the whole "layer" that i.e. Samsung/HTC put over the basic rom, (touchwiz and sense in the case of samsung/htc).
So if you'd take those layers/apps away you would just have the basis which is just AOSP.
Does anyone know what the difference is between AOSP and AOKP?

Basically AOSP means pure android, compiled from AOSP Google source.
AOKP ROMs are based off AOSP, but include many mods and tweaks. Some come from all over the place, hence the name 'kang'. They are compiled originally from AOSP sources but highly modified.
AOSP is pure Google android
AOKP is a custom ROM project, like CM based on AOSP

quick question
not really to do with the note but with the forum
whats the difference between the threads android development and Original android development?
never really understood it
thanks
Here you go:
http://www.xda-developers.com/introducing-original-development-forums-for-more-devices/
Android development = modifying stock software (for the Note 4 this would mean TW based ROMs)
Original Android development = developing your own stuff from source (This would me AOSP ROMs and custom kernels)
For some reason the AOSP ROMs for this device are in the wrong section. The only one who had it in the correct place is SLIM ROM.
