can i change kernel when ny note bricked ? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

please help..
i think my note is bricked.
its stuck on factoryfs step when i try flash with PC odin.
i want go to services center to claim warranty
but i have one problem.
i am already using custom kernel in my note. so i am afraid the warranty will void.
its there any idea to change my kernel to original kernel ?
oh ya im on ICS 4.0.4 Singapore..
thanx

Looky signature for 'toolbox' you will find stock kernel thread link from it.
Flash using pc odin (pda),most probably you will able to.flash it, except you have big loss on partition.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium

We already have 4-5 threads with same issue....and even if you some how manage to flash a stock kernel it will not remove your root and that will void your warranty. Retry on on some different PC, some users managed to do it like this.
Edit- M I right dr.ketan?

It requires precious log to know exact issue he faces. If it is not brick but due to connectivity issue then knly it can b managed with other pc. Flashing stock kernel will unroot device, but sure leftover will remain.but if it is real brick and they (service centre)won't able to boot it and never know abt leftover.
They will have two option to check
1.recovery - if it is custom, they will find u r rooted, thats y i advised him to flash stock kernel
2.download mode : you shud not have raised flash counter.
So,
My recommendation
Confirm it is real brick, if yes
Flash stock kernel
Reset counter if.raised
Reclaim warranty

Easy and safe method is using TriangleAway app to remove yellow triangle if you are on Rooted ICS
or else you will have to use USB JIG.

i ve done that but it not reset the binary counter.

my problem was solve..
flashing with this kernel
didnt make resetting binary counter, but help me to Boot to ROM.
so i just installing triangle away and resetting binary.
after that everything looks normal for me
my galaxy note its on.
btw after flashing with that kernel,
i can't connect to wifi
so i use speedmod kernel and everything its allright,
it is oke to use speedmod kernel in ICS 4.0,4 ?
btw thanx for all of yours help and replies

I dont know which kernel was it, b'coz link is broken. But as you said wifi was not working, it means that shud be custom. Stock kernel dont have wifi issue.
Anyway Triangle away will reset your counter.
Yes you can use speedmod, then reset counter.

[Q]About Rooting and Installing Custom Rom For Samsung Note

With all due respect to all Senior members, i just had my kk1 rooted Samsung Galaxy Note.. Updated to LA1(stock roms).. In order to Root LA1 Kernel to Rocket Rom.. Where and how do i start.. ??
Just download rocketrom v22(latest)..if u have rooted your phone,u should have cwm.. enter the cmw recovery mode, make a full wipe, and flash the rocketrom zip file..
Before flashing any Rom,it is better for you to make a nandroid backup and also titanium backup..of anything goes wrong,u can restore it back and get to the previous state of your phone..
Fyi,there are also optional installment after flashing rocketrom..make sure u read the rr thread..
RR v22 is really awesome!!!

Please before flashing any Custom ROM read entire post Carefully.
You already flashed Custom ROM Using Odin. So what your binary counter is raised. (To check Reboot in Download mode and See Custom Binary Count=?)
It doesn't harm your device. but you wont get warranty anymore. you regain your warranty you should remove Yellow triangle (!) please follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1354888
Please anymore do not use PC Odin only for Stock ROM. For Flashing Custom ROM use CWM Recovery.

Odin can be used only for Flashing Stock ROM. Flashing Stock ROM using PC Odin wont raise Binary Counter. You have to Flash Custom ROMs using CWM Recovery or Mobile Odin.
Yellow Triangle wont harm your device. you wont get warranty that's it.
If you want regain the warranty you should remove yellow triangle from device. that means you should use JIG. JIG can be used for 2 problems. 1 is for who cant get in to download mode and second is to remove Yellow Triangle.

Hi,
I have already flashed this rom
Recording both side conversation using Blut tooth hands free is required. This rom does not do it. How do I record both side conversation using blue tooth.
Will "rocket ROM 19 + faby71 call rec mod + total recall recorder (common version) " work as stated in some other post?
Where can I download "faby71 call rec mod"?
Does it work with ROCKET-v22 -LA6-eybee1970 using blue tooth head phone with any call recorder?
The another BIG issue I get with ROCKET-v22-LA6-eybee1970 is
1) HIGH BATTERY DRAIN &
2) Mobile data network getting switch on automatically without permission even when it is switched off manually.
Please help. [email protected]

If i am not wrong then on GB you got only the Jig to reset the counter. You can flash the lp1 repack of ICS rom and then use the triangle away app to reset the counter. And then can downgrade back to GB or stock.
All useful links in my signature.

[Solved] Reset binary counter and remove yellow triangle without a jig when bricked

Please read this first:
I was able to reset the binary counter and remove the yellow triangle by using the method described in #13 of this thread, but you should understand that my phone was already soft-bricked. As you will know from reading posts #18 and #21, that the Angelom kernel 1.2 should be used to reset your binary counter and remove the yellow triangle, ONLY WHEN your device is ALREADY bricked, otherwise you may brick your working device. Be cautioned.
Original post:
I have been struggling for two days now with an issue of some kind of brick. Without going into whether it is a soft brick or a hard brick, this is how my situation is:
- I can boot into download mode
- I can boot into stock recovery mode
- I am unable to flash any ROM as all of them get stuck at factoryfs
- I flashed several kernels, stock as well as custom, and the latest kernel I flashed was a CF kernel
- After flashing the CF kernel, I saw the yellow triangle at the Samsung boot prompt and the flash counter increased by 1
- I flashed a stock kernel over the CF kernel which made the yellow triangle go away, but I still have the flash count increased
I do not wish to go for any trial and error methods now, so I am thinking of sending my Note to Samsung for repairs. Can someone help me with resetting the flash counter to 0? I do not wish to sound impatient, but I really do not have much time to wait for the JIG solution, so if someone can help with resetting the flash counter without using JIG, it would greatly help.
I have insurance on my phone and I bought the phone a week ago. Please also let me know if I can use my insurance if Samsung decides to charge me. Ideally, I would like a replacement, as it is a confirmed bug from Google that caused my phone to be bricked, and also since I have had the phone only for a week, but I don't know how to convince the seller I need a new phone, as they will try to get it fixed and return the same back.
Is there anything else other than the flash counter that I should wipe/reset before sending it to Samsung? I took a Nandroid backup of a stock odexed GB ROM last week which is under a folder called "CWM". Is the CWM folder in the internal storage (USB storage) or the external SD card? If it is in internal, how do I wipe it? My phone doesn't have any battery so I can't check the location of CWM folder myself.
Thanks.
If you can still enter download mode, there is hope to flash a stock rom.You need the pit file, matching your device version(16 or 32 gb). Also a bootloader wouldn't hurt to have around.
I got 3 errors when i first tried to flash my note, but i solved it with the pit file.Just google for it.

Thanks, I know about it, but I do not have the time to buy the JIG, wait for it and try it out on my device, if that's what you refer to. I am in a time crunch as my 15 days of purchase of this phone will be complete next week, and beyond that I wouldn't get any special privileges from the seller. This is why, I am looking for a method that involves flashing using Odin or stock CWM. It's a long shot, but I am hoping someone can help.
Jig is the only way for you to reset the counter on a bricked phone, sorry.
Wasnt there a kernel that Angelom did to reset the flash counter on his superbricks with Team Rocket ICS?
Maybe dig up the old thread in the dev section and check. It was a quick and dirty to reset counter and make it official again.

Thanks hkgrob, Chasmodo and kimitza. I appreciate it.
So do I need to just flash the 16 GB (I have 16 GB Note) PIT file using Odin and that should reset the flash counter? Just want to make sure I am doing it right.
Edit: I just flashed the 16 GB PIT file using 1.85 PC Odin along with a stock kernel, but the counter has not reset. Also, there is no kernel file, that hkgrob mentioned, in the zipped attachment.
I am not able to find the kernel through search. Could someone upload the kernel which would reset the counter? I will try again after that. Thanks.

Yes, that's what I figured. I found a link to this kernel in this thread and downloaded it, but it's an ICS kernel, which is also supposed to reset the counter. Is this the one you talk about? And, if it is the right kernel, I guess I should flash it with the PIT file with PC Odin. Correct?
I am on stock GB recovery - for your information.
If anyone else can post the kernel before Chasmodo does, that would be great. Thanks.
A little diversion: For some reason the stock recovery shows there are no files on my SD card, while other recoveries do. Is this supposed to be this way? With stock recovery, I am unable to access anything on my SD card.
I will post this as a separate thread, as it does not fit as an edit in my previous post.
I found this thread, and got encouraged to flash the ICS kernel which the OP in that thread also found. Flashing the ICSTest kernel by Angelom rebooted with a yellow triangle at the Samsung prompt and booted into touch CWM. I rebooted the phone using the reboot option on CWM. With the reboot, the triangle is gone and the binary counter says "No." So, I think mission accomplished for now.
Will there be a way Samsung to tell now if I ever flashed custom recoveries, ROMs and kernels or that phone was rooted before the Google-admitted bug screwed everything up?

Just flash a stock kernel now, and they probably won't be able to tell that you ever used any custom stuff.
No need to removed the counter & triangle, just send it back to SSC, they will fix it for you, because they already know the reason you send it back, cheer up!

No. Angelom 1.2 will reset your counter, but it will also give you a hard brick in

Is that true that flashing the Angelom 1.2 will hard brick a phone if it's not already bricked? Is that kernel not useful for any ROMs? I am curious because if that's true, I will change the title of my thread.

[Q]Superbrick repair

Hello mates. I was with Chracks rom and I tryed to install Aspahlt 7.The game started to download and my phone locked.I tryed to unlock ,but was stuck.I removed the battery and restarted it.When I typed in my pin code it stucked again. No worries I thought it`s not the first time it happens.Reboted in CWM and tryed to install Abuss kernel to re-flash the rom (I manage to repair it that way few times when I`ve got the same problem) ,but phone stucked on flashing Abuss. *hit happens. Tryed to reboot in CWM - nothing. Tryed to flash stock gb with Odin ,but it stucks on Nandroid something. Any ideas mates ? Should I install gb with 3 files and how can I know are there 3 files in the zip ? Thank you .

If you were on that rom With just cf kernel afaik cf kernels are just stock kernels with root (meaning no MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled) and if you wiped from that cwm pretty much your phone died at that very moment.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.. About the 3 files it does not matters... It's the same for 1 or 3... The additional files are csc and radio wich are included in the single file and it won't make any difference...
So basicly if you can go odin mode and flash a stock gb rom(no matter if 3 files or 1) and get your phone working you are good.. If not then claim your warranty if you don't have a yellow triangle or binary counter

Tryed to reboot in CWM - nothing. Tryed to flash stock gb with Odin ,but it stucks on Nandroid something. Any ideas mates ? Should I install gb with 3 files and how can I know are there 3 files in the zip ? Thank you .

Try this, flash official gb rom in pc odin after flashing, go back to recovery and wipe data and cache.

If you were with Notecore you didn't need to flash abyss because notecore its a safe kernel.. Meaning that maybe you though it was notecore? The rom has default kernel cf root.. Or you did something else... The thing it's that being stuck in factoryfs its not good.. If you have warranty go claim it as I said before... Seems like you are super bricked..

Get a jig to remove the binary counter you can either buy 1 or make 1 by yourself.. Search around xda I remember a thread that shows you how to do a jig

Super Bricked Note flash counter reset

so a friend of mine super bricked his N7000 and it is kind of my fault.
that's why i feel bad and want to help him out a little bit.
my plan is to:
1) reset the flash/binary counter
2) flash a stock rom
my first question is, will it be possible for him to claim warranty after that?
the second one is, is there any flashable zip-file to reset the flash counter on the n7000?
I only found one for the american versions (verizon etc.)
btw: if that doesn't work I'm trying the pit-file revival method
do you have access to download or recovery mode?, if download mode is there try flashing a stock rom using pc odin.. check if it hangs anywhere. if yes paste the odin logs as well. is the phone recognized by the pc

Like I said its Super Bricked, i can get into download mode and recovery mode, but no matter what I do the phone doesn't boot.
i tried flashing with odin and cwm multiple times with different roms (stock and custom), but it just doesn't boot.
doesnot help.. what happens when you flash with odin? does it complete or get stuck? when flashing a rom using recovery. does it complete or get stuck again?
Get a USB JIB to reset the counter.. Ebay it.. It costs less than a buck

are there no flashable zips out there? I mean there are for the american version, so there must be one for the N7000 too.
it would just be so much faster and easier.
first of all what makes you think its a super brick.. if its Bootlooping (samsung glowing logo) as you describe it, then its mere data corruption and needs a factory reset in recovery using a safe kernel

I did multiple factory resets and flashed safe kernels
I also did the partiton scan from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823918
it gets stuck at 1682 mb so I'm pretty sure it's a "Super Brick"
also i forgot to mention that he flashed the cwm.zip (touch version) while being on 4.0.3 like mentionend in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827394
which is an alleged way to Super Brick your phone (according to my research)

As far as I know there's 2 ways of reseting the counter.. With triangle away from Chainfire and you must be on Android or with a JIG.. The JIG that works for SGS II its the same for note.. It's a 1 day delivery lol.. And cost less than 1$ and couldn't be more easy.. What else would you want.. Once the JIG resets the counter.. You can "flash" a stock gb rom and there will be no trace of custom stuff.. So he can claim warranty..
And I think there's a guide somewhere that explains how to make a JIG at home.. You could try that too
