Hi All stupid question maybe but.... since there are still nightlies for CM9 are they worth updating to? I saw the developer is now concentrating on CM10 however if there are any fixes the actual CM9 in the nightlies aint they worth getting?
I dont want to go to CM10 since its not ready.....
like everything else, it is your call.
there are plenty of cm9 builds that are stable enough for daily use.

Sorry to be such a noob, but can somebody explain to me the difference between a stable vs. nightly build when it comes to CM7?
Which is better to put on an SD card for the purpose of running CM7?
Also, who is updating these files and testing them before they are posted?
Thanks.

Nevermind, folks. I got the answers here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Latest_Version
Nightly builds have updates almost daily, so they have the latest upgrades but occasionally might have a hangup. Stable builds are updated every few weeks (maybe), but as their name implies, are considered more stable as they then incorporate most of the nightly upgrades into one. Both are released by the CM team.
The nightly builds have slightly better battery life than the last stable, and both are pretty solid as a daily driver. There were reported problems in flashing back and forth, so best bet is to pick one path and follow that. If you don't think you want to flash that often, choose stable.
at all current cm7 users:
i moved away for stability reasons from cm7 around nightly20 after having used it for months. needed 100% safety that my alarm rings in the morning back then.
however i never stopped to check the nightly thread from time to time to be up to date. i now decided to move back to cm7 because i am bored of samsungs slow stock roms and custom roms based on samsungs fw.
as i said i need it as much stable as possible.
which of the recent nightlies has been the most stable for you guys until now? dont want to flash rc since lots of improvements have been made in the meantime.
anyone?

Their all pretty stable now as their has been a lot of bug fixes etc however I do still have a few minor issues where some nightly's don't read my external SD card, but that doesn't bother me, I'm on nightly 92 and it works a charm dude definately ready for everyday use now

First of all you can check the link in my signature to get a look at the problems with the latest nightly's. which you can see don't have problems
In my opinion any nightly from #80 and up are stable with good battery life.
update to gb bootloaders, flash nightly #80 and up! shouldn't have any problems. At least i'm not experiencing any
Thanks for your replies!
Okay first of all I freaking love this place it's brought an entire new life onto my captivate so here's whats going on..
I have cm9.0.0-RC0 installed with 4.0.3 but I just realized a few days ago that the alpha fourm I was on is extremely outdated and that everyone had moved onto the newer one. (yes I realize I look like an idiot at this point)
ANYWAYS...I went to find the latest stable build how ever it also says 9.0.0 so i'm sort of confused if that one is any different. I'm pretty sure I am on the alpha build 17 but like I said still confused...
(Side note: I don't want to use the nightly builds because I use this as my daily phone so I need something stable.)
So do I need to flash the other one or am I good where i'm at? Or should I just wait for CM10 and jelly bean??
Also I know this has been asked but can someone recommend a good kernal to use with this? I'm pretty sure the one I am using is old it's by pawitp.
Thank you for your patience and dealing with my stupidity
(very first n00b post btw)
Go ahead and do an update to the stable version. It is only a few days old, and is worth updating to, especially if you are still on an alpha (I can't imagine that really).
I recommend that you stick with the stock kernel unless you want to play around with things like overclocking. In that case, either Semaphore or Devil are great kernels.
Definitely update, I have been running cm9 nightly for the last 3 months with no issues. I'm on Helly bean now, but my gf is using cm9 stable.
Update now man. You have a choice of the CM9 stable release, plus like four really good Jelly Bean roms that are totally worth the flash. I'm on Paranoid Android right now and its the best Jelly Bean experience I've had on both Android devices that I own so I highly suggest it to you if you're stuck in deciding which JB rom, if you go that route of course.
alright thanks guys! :good:
Heya XDA, I recently received a unmodded HP Touchpad from a friend of mine, and I'm very much interested in loading Android onto; however, I'm not entirely sure which ROM I should install. I'm looking for a stable and fast version of ICS but I noticed that Cyanogen (CM 9 Tenderloin) isn't available yet in a stable form, so I was wondering what you guys recommend using.
Thanks

The CM9 official nightly is what I use/recommend.
I've been using Fat n Creamy which is based off CM9 and it has been quite stable for me. It adds working camera and a few other things. Last time I used the official CM9 nightlies camera still wasn't working, but it may be fixed now. As long as I keep the volume unmuted and enable the lock screen sound, then I never get reboots.
The camera has been fixed/working in CM9 nightlies for a couple releases now. FnC is great, but CM9 feels more vanilla to me. (do miss the webOS like recent apps being built in)

I kind of messed up a bit with my Galaxy Ace S5830, so I'm about to wipe it again. But after thinking about it, I was wondering if there's a bit more that can be done for this legacy device aside of installing CM.
I first had CM 7.2.0 stable installed and overall it went fairly well for daily use, except for just a couple of issues: default camera not having zooming function, and this other issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2596926
On IRC (cyanogenmod channel) I was told this probably could be due to Ace's awfully limited amount of RAM, which caused the updating app to not be able to temporarily store in RAM and use some of internal sotrage (limited as well), resulting in more and more internal storage consumed each time an update was performed. Or so I understood...
Also I noticed there are a few nightlies after stable CM version 7.2.0
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=cooper
So, questions would be:
1. If I'm to install CM7, which one should I pick, stable 7.2.0 again, or latest nightly? I think I once read comments that latest build fixed some minor bugs and was actualyl good, but I do care a lot about stability and the Wikia site says nightlies are unstable.
2. Is there something I could do for the updates/storage issue?
3. Is there default zoom for camera on CM7, or would I have to download another camera app?
4. I've seen there are now some CM 9, 10, 11, etc builds for S5830, but they are unofficial and in the IRC I was told unofficial was generally not that good (and potential malware). Should I better stick with CM7, or is there by chance an "official" CM 9, 10, 11 mod?
Thanks beforehand.

1. Flash your desired version... there'is a lot of rom in Android Development section... Nightly doesn't mean unstable :silly:
2. Storage issue?... AFAiK CM7.x/9.x/10.x/11 haven't got any storage issue...
3. Our camera hasn't optical ZOOM... digital zoom is as if you enlarge a picture when you're seeing it in the gallery... anyway you can't do digital zoom using any CM camera.
4. Unofficial doesn't mean that the file contains potential malware...
Thanks mr Viper.
There's quite a lot of stuff in the Android Development section, maybe too much for me to process...
Although, from what I managed to see, @Mardon's roms -specially his CM11 rom- would rise my hopes high, if his roms weren't in alpha/beta stages and he could work on them more often.
However there's another rom that looks promising to flash right now, @Rhievaldo's CM9. From what I read in its thread, it looks functional enough for daily use. It's a shame that seemingly he's put its development on hiatus; would be great if those remaining issues could be fixed (compass, weather in lockscreen, etc).
@Viper The Ripper, in your experience, would you advise for 1 or 2 CM roms for S5830 in particular?
Also, do I need stock rom before flashing a CM rom, or can I just wipe data, cache, system? Do all CM roms come pre-rooted, or do I need to root beforehand?
Thanks again.
P.S.: regarding the "storage issue", I did leave a link to a previous thread started by me to explain what I meant, if you see it...
