I Probably damaged my SD Card while Partitioning - HTC Salsa

Hi there.
Lately i have tried flashing newer ROMs on my HTC Salsa. I have a Kingston 16GB Class 4 SD card installed into it. Yesterday experimenting with different sizes of second partition for using htc-data2sd-ext3.zip it looks that i somehow damaged my SD card.
I am using MiniTool Partition Wizard Home 7.5 for making partition. After i formatted the card last, it shows the card having 14.62 GB space. But does not create second partition saying that all the partitions should be deleted first. There is no other partition visible in MiniTool Wizard as well as on Windows Disk Management menu. Result : I cant create the second partition and cant flash data2sd_ext3.zip. Otehrwise I can copy data on the SD card and it shows OK and flashes the ROM as well but the same Memory problem .......
Any body faced this situation and has the remedy I will be greatly obliged.
Anotehr problem ,.... .i always experienced lag (slow response to applications) earlier when i successfully created partitions and flashed data2SD. Is that due to my Class 4 SD card (not faster)?
Please help in giving advice on making the speed of data reading faster. Thanks :fingers-crossed:

Lag yes, need a Bigger and higher class card. As for the partitions. That's odd. Did u apply all actions? Its possible the format didn't fully work. But still, that's not happened to me...
What size partition u making? I would only suggest 500mb or less on the class 4 if your experiencing lag issues.

Try use Card reader instead mounting ur sd on cwm when formating the cards

If you re read the first post he has stated he used minitool partition which can only be used on a PC with a card reader.
Mounting the SD via cwm and using that tool isn't generally thought of and not always possible. It wasn't for me anyway.

By several attempts I was successful in reformatting the SD card and making second partition again.
As for the lag issue, I read somewhere there are SD card booster programs. Do you have experience with anyone that is stable and works well to enhance the data transfer speed? Thanks

.
SD-Booster or SDSpeedFix from goggle play, all do the same job.
don't set any higher than 2048 unless you have a top spec class 10 sd the fine pick what u want.
sd-booster is inc in my own roms as stock.

Yes I did exactly that. Never used CWM for formatting or partitioning.
Do u have experience using Link2SD application? I think this is creating problems and crashes. app2SD is much safer and stable application. What do u say?

I only use links2sd for Apks management only, so when I open the app up, u cancel the mount option. If y have accepted it and run data2sd you will have serious problems lol.

[Q] Change the SD card partition of verygreen´s CM7 bootable SD card - How?

Hello,
Ok, first, the briefing:
I used verygreen´s Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards to run CM7 (installer 1.3 -> nightly 87 + gapps) on my nook. Works great. Kudos verygreen.
I tested 3 different SD cards to do so. Sadly, none of my Class 4 cards worked and only an old Class 2 2g Toshiba did the trick. Since I don´t intend to have a big fight with my wife about why I need to buy a 2nd. class 4 SD card this week, I am keeping the 2g Toshiba. (I know, I know, I should´ve bought a Sandisk Class 4 to begin with but they're a not easy to come by here in Brazil. At least, not a real Class 4).
And this is my problem:
The CM7 sees only 350 - 400 MB available in the "SD Card". That is hardly enough for HD games. Meanwhile, the "internal" memory has over 700 MB available.
What I'd like to do is:
Change the SD card partition to move some of the available space from the "internal" memory to the "SD card" on CM7.
Question:
Is it possible? How? Is it gonna mess up the CM7?
Alternatively, I was considering WobbleTheHutt method to swap SDcard and emmc. But, before I do it, I need to know if this method would affect the booting of the stock Nook. Does anyone knows?
Thnx.
I freaking did it!
I freaking did it! And it's running smoothly!
Ok! For those who want to give it a try.
First, I used Gnome Partition Editor for Windows to decrease the size of the EXT partition. Then, I used Minitool Partition Wizard Home edition to increase the FAT partition.
I actually created a image of my original SD card, just in case, but it was unnecessary since it didn't mess any of my data or apps. Still, as a security measure, I suggest who ever try this to also create a backup image of the original SD card.

Hey! Nice idea.
I was looking for a method to backup my CM7(verygreen) SD card but I don't have a card reader with me currently.
Is is possible to backup complete SD card(all 4 CM7 partitions) using just the nook and windows??
P.S. I have Clockworkmod recovery installed onto emmc, if it's possible through that?
thanks.

Why didn't you use GPE for both steps? I use it all the time and it works fine.

[Q] Link2Sd Right partition combination and slow sd card

Hi guys
I'm looking forward to use Link2sd so I installed minitoll partition wizard and tried to create 2 partitions:
1 Primary 7 Gb FAT32
1 Primary 0.6 Gb Ext2
i could never complete the task and partition wizard kept saying the sd card was unformatted. I found on anther thread that for some phones Ext2 partition did not work and that a second Fat32 could solve the issue.
I went down that road and the sd formatting went fine creating 2 Fat32 partition.
The BIG problem is that the sd card (Kingston 8 Gb class4) is extremely slow, getting all my backuo data back into it took like 30 hours.
Is this normal ?
What is the proper partition combination for the X8 on order to use Link2sd ??
Such slow writing speed to the sdcard seems a pretty high price to pay...is it worth ???

I used the same software to create partition in my Sandisc 8GB class2 SD card. It took around 10 mins to create and format the card with 7.5GB FAT32 and 0.5GB Ext2. Both are primary.
I suggest you to check the Card and software by interchanging them. That is try with same software on a new computer with this card and again on your machine try a new or another card.
Another way that you can make the partition in CWM recovery.
Positively there is something wrong, the time you mentioned is too unusual.
Hi
Thanks a lot, when you are so close to the trees you can't see the forest.jaja
After several combinations I realized that the sd card port on the laptop was defective. I used an usb adapter and partioned with minitools, just as you said and worked...finally.
Cheers

[Q] Proper App2SD guide please...

Im using custom roms for a while now (on GDX26 now). i just move apps to sd, havent done any partitioning and things. so can someone give me a proper noobs guide to app2sd and tell me whats about this sd partitioning and file systems and stuff?
anybody??? :/
Check if your recovery has a Partition option, this is the easiest way to do it. If yes, you only need to give the size that you desire for the partitions. WARNING: all your SD data will be deleted.
If no, you need to use a PC Program, like minitool partition wizard, to create the EXT partition. It's easy: shrink the fat32 partition and create the EXT partition using the left space. The format must be EXT4.
Hopefully, your phone will recognize the EXT partition and will mount it

Thanks guys
but can you tell me whats the difference between native app2sd on 2.3 and app2sd with sd partitioning?
oh and whats this swap? its some sort of virtual ram right? do i need it and how do i make it?
Native app2sd doesn't move all the app to the SD (and not all the apps can be moved). Using EXT partition all the apps can be moved totally, so the use of internal memory is minimal.
SWAP, yes, it's virtual ram. I don't recommend you its use, because the SD's life is dramatically reduced.
If you wish to test it, you need to make another partition (formatted as SWAP), either from the Recovery or using a pc program.

Thanks that pretty much cleared everything for me.
I have a small problem :/
i partitioned the sd with CWM to ext4(no swap), everything works fine except the write speed of the sd in mass storage mode is so so slow. its really annoying why is that?
btw my sd is 16GB class 6

so no fix for this?

[Q] SD EXT problems

My phone is aging. Nowdays it keeps losing the sd card and since I'm using INT2EXT, the moment this happens, I have to wipe data. Even after getting the SD card back, it just doesn't boot after this happens.
The question is: Is there a reliable sd ext script that is compatible with every ROM and survives SD card loss? S2E is not compatible with many ROMs, Link2SD moves the apps, but when installing a new one, it still says out of space.
And I'm using EXT4 on a UH1 16 gig card.
And I've been using this script for over a year without a problem. The reason I'm sure that it's caused by the loss of the card is that when the phone is booted and I remove the card, it goes into bootloop just like when this random loss happens. And I'm using Badass 1.9, so no logcat.
You can use cron mod.

Cronmod INT2EXT. That's what I'm using now.
Best choice is Link2sd plus because it links internal data too so you solve the space error problembut unfortunately you have to pay for it.

If there is no other way... Or maybe I will just keep a backup and try to hold up until I get a new phone. It should happen around x-mas which is not exactly now. I think I will end up with link2sd plus. Thanks for suggesting.
Here is another script for galaxy mini and I don't think that it's INT2EXT and did you partition your SD card with CWM partitioning?

s2e is not friendly user to use.

[Q] Using sd card for internal and external storage

As we all know the android one comes with limited internal storage storage and media (pics, documents, videos) can only be stored on the external sdcard. On the forum there are various methods to swap storage size , however on doing so storage space for media will be limited to fixed 2 gb space currently available for internal storage. I was wondering if it is possible to partition a 32gb class 10 sd card and use 16 gb each for external and internal storage. I wouldn't mind if the internal phone storage would have to be abandoned in doing so.
Has any one successfully done this..
'
Yes you can do that using link2sd.
Check this out.
I have made a 4GB ext4 partition on my 16GB sd card and I keep all my apps stored in the 4GB partition. And 10GB is kept as media storage.

So download the zip file from the attachment. You will find link2sd app and a patcher that makes the app link2sd plus and is totally functional... And other things about link2sd is nicely explained in this site, https://awanstuff.wordpress.com/201...ink2sd-in-any-android-phone-with-screenshots/ Just keep in mind to create a ext4 partition instead of ext2 and you are good to go. And I would suggest you to use high speed sd cards preferably class 10 and higher if you want a smooth experience on your lollipop rom. I use class 10 ultra from sandisk. I'm using it on my lollipop 5.1 and it works flawlessly...no hiccups at all... Why don't you try it for your self and find out...
I tried partitioning and also installed link2sd plus but it does not recognise the partition, it still says unable to create the mount, it resets the link on every boot.
I have Class 4 SD card. Will it be okay if I used it?
