Not going into deep sleep! - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have always found the battery life to be poor but I have come to accept this device has a large screen and great processing power etc!
My UK phone is rooted on the latest ICS and has various apps frozen with titanium backup manager! It use to be in deep sleep mode for about 68% of the time but since 2 days ago cpu spy says it hasn't been in deep sleep mode! I have installed various apps that kill running apps but the phone fails to sleep!
Any ideas why it isn't sleeping, just sits at 200mhz!

Go to Settings -> Sounds -> Go to the bottom -> disable touch sounds. (Better if you untick all 4 options). Reboot. Leave phone for 10 mins. Check CPU Spy. :good::highfive:

Thanks for the reply, I did that when I first got the phone! Just checked and all the boxes are un-ticked!? Any other ideas?

Turn off custom power saving mode.. Check after that.. I faced issues with these two.. Sometimes even l2_hsic goes crazy and drains the battery.. Check that too.

Thanks, again this setting is disabled on my phone! Still sitting at 200mhz! Though the battery doesn't seem to be draining as much!?

hello sir..
hmm since i read that you installed various apps that kill running apps, maybe that is cause to kernel wakelock since your system always working to searching what app running and killed it in various time you set
..many system app that switch back on like google app no matter you turn off except you log out your account
or maybe you can try one off the famous airplane metode which is
- switch your phone to airplane mode
- turn off your phone and pull out your battery (until 10 sec or more)
- put again your battery and turn on your phone
- after complete reboot let it for a while then turn off the airplane mode

I had the same problem with audio_out one but only in imilka's paranoid Android.. Couldn't fix it in any way so left the rom..

the reason taskkillers are disputed is because memory works different on android. It reloads certain stuff afterbkilling it, causing a cycle of killing and reloaded that can cause more drain than is intended to safe

ICS deep sleep problem finally and totally solved

Dear all,
I faced all the problems you mentioned in the other posts about this problem. I used all the impractical solutions also mentioned to remove battery and to go to plane mode and to download cpuspy and other applications.
What really solved the porblem for me came to me just by accidentent. an ad for app came to me. it is called NQ security, it is actually a security suite more than an app. My battery was almost consumed after four hours of full charge, now it is running for full two days without power save or disabling anything 3g, wifi or bluetooth or even display was left to auto.
This app NQ security scanned my mobile and found two applications as threat, I don't know why they were threat. I downloaded them from google play not hacked. NQ asked me to uninstall them and of course I did and voila everything was solved as I explained earlier.
Why did this happen, it is my only guess and might be wrong. Some applications acts crazy due to not a full compatibility with ICS that made some services keep running and prevent deep sleep. This mad activity was detected as abnormal or a threat by NQ.
Please if any has a better explanation please post here.
Thanks to all of you
Interesting. I wonder how wakelock app were perceived as a threat. Maybe it was a coincidence...
Personally I use CPU spy to see if he phone gets decent sleep time and if not I use system panel and battery stat apps to identify misbehaving app.

I used CPUspy for a while, but warmth of the phone is quite a good indicator that it has no deep sleep. Please try the NQ security to see it yourself.

I've found a different solution. I'm using speedmod kernel and do a simple reboot just after unplugging in the morning and my phone makes it to the end of day with 30% battery. Without speedmod and the reboot it use to be dead 2 or 3 hours before I was ready to plug it in. Works for me anyway.
I will give NQ a try and report back.
This sleep problem is driving me nuts.
Just lost 33% battert in a couple of hours after full charging. checked CPU spy and it was sitting on 200MHz.

hi, from what i know ur situation is that u always stay in at least 200 mhz of cpu using after unplugged, right?
i have the same problem too in the early days, but problem will gone as u notice some glitch below:
if u usualy charge the phone in switch off states, it's ok, but if u r charging the phone in switch on states, take note that when u unplugged the phone while it was still screen lock states, the phone system will think that u didn't plug off the charging, although ur screen didn't show, and the cpu will kill on active in 200 mhz states, so, all u need to do is to reboot ur device, to reset the detection of the charging, and remember next time don't unplug the charging while its under screen lock states.
also, if there is too many noticefication on the top bar, it might too active the phone too 200mhz, clearing it would solve the problem.
now i can keep my phone over night (10pm-8am) with just 25%, and just 1% for the night, sometimes even less

[Q] How can I tell what's eating my battery?

About a week ago, I started noticing that my phone battery gets very hot and the battery drains quickly when the phone is NOT in use (Screen off, sitting on my desk). Full charge to 0% in 4 four hours or so, without being stressed.
When I try to charge it from the supplied wall charger, it doesn't get past 87% charged before the battery temp creeps into the 40s and it starts draining (while still plugged in).
I assume it's a faulty battery, only because I haven't downloaded anything new. The only change I made was updating Viber. I removed that app from my phone but it's still dropping like a fly.
I've done a factory reset twice, no change.
Rebooted the phone many times, no change.
Tried different cables and different chargers (PC, Old X10), no change.
Now, since I can't replace the battery in this phone, I'm hoping there's a software method to see what might be eating the battery.
Note : My LT30a .195 can't be rooted, and the bootloader can't be unlocked. Also, I don't know how to take screenshots.
Anyone have an suggestions ??
In Settings-Battery you should be able to see what processes are using it.
If you want to monitor cpu load in real time, then you'll need some app, like OS Monitor to see load per process, or PowerTutor for logging cumulative consumption.
I bought this phone several days before. Yesterday got root, installed cwm recovery and installed jb 4.1.2 deoxed stock Rom. I noticed that my phone can't sleep. Totally! Take a look on screenshots. I thought that may be bcoz of some apps so I wiped everything (int and ext sdcard too), but it makes no sense

Turning off your auto sync when not needed should do the trick.
Something's wrong there. I've got too much battery consumption by Android System too, but that is ridiculous.
¿Have you tried BetterBatteryStats to see what's keeping it on?.

AudioOut_2 is related to any games or apps related to sound or which "produce" sound..are you on stock rom and stock kernel?
try to exit any music player app after listening or exit the game properly after playing..sometimes keystrock sound causes it..
do one thing...reboot it and keep it idle for an hr or so..and while rebooting make sure your phone is not in silent or vibrate mode..and after an ar check the batterystats and let us know!
And do check all the columns including partial wakelocks and try to find which process used more time or percentage...

Is that all bcoz of gtalk?

Dude your phone is just fine...10% down in 9 hrs with wifi on is too good...everything looks normal..gtalk seems to be waking up the phone to update the online offline lists.in general syncing...thats all..if it was 10% down in 1 hr then it wouldve been a problem...the data looks just fine..and trust me your phone is entering sleep mode..or else it wouldve showed different result..to confirm that install cpuspy..it will say what all frequency are being used and how much phone is sleeping and all...
so just chill..
BTW I logged out from gtalk yesterday evening so I can't understand why it's trying to connect

Sometimes after charging the phone I notice high drain after 3 hours it is as low as 50%. I checked with cpuspy that the phone wasn't going to deep sleep at all, it remained at 475MHz when the screen was off.
This has happened to me twice.
Only solution I found was reboot.
Hope it helps

If you installed Chrome at some point, you might want to find the option to turn gps-positioning off as well. Not sure if it's been fixed in a later release, but on the previous version the api prevented the processor from idling, and never turned the gps-antenna off again after use.
It's most likely an app is causing that drain, try installing BetterBatteryStats...

how can we know which app is forcing the phone to does not enter deep sleep mode? i installed cpu spy and note that deep sleep mode is not being used by my phone since yesterday, but ysterday i rooted and installed all my root required apps, but i don't know which is avoiding deep sleep mode.
I just turn on the phone after full charge, and in 10 minutes battery had drained was about 7% and the phone is warm, obviously something is running on background or something, i closed all apps that I know and used Greenify to stop background apps and now i close all google+ apps, i will measure again

Lolz, you need to give somemore information
1. Did you root your phone? which firmware are you using? if you are rooted did you do factory reset?
2. did you do anything related to flashing JB, unlocking bootloader, etc or anything that happened recently to LG 4X.
3. what app did you download or updated 1-2 days before this?

[Q] V20A Battery.

I'm kind of worried of my battery life..
Last night was my first dissapointment, I left my phone untouched for the whole night (8-9 hours) and something just sucked away about 30% of my battery. Not sure if it just didn't go in Deep Sleep or bloatware leeches that much energy off it.
Within 4 hours of which not even 1 hour of Data usage + WhatsApp/Facebook another 30% just went away.
My battery was not this bad on ICS, specially if I left it during the night, I'd see max 5% drained.
Is this normal for now? Untill I go trought a bit of full rechanrging cycles? (From >5% till 100%)
Or it would be better if sometime I root it and remove some of the bloatware and convert system apps to user ones? (Like Maps,)
I also also less battery life. Is I have the double of the consumption in comparison With ICS . It dont have 1 day of battery life (18h), and I don't play. It's unsustainable...
Sent from my LG-P880 using xda app-developers app
I noticed that last night (after upgrading) I lost about 10% battery over seven hours, usually I'd only lose 4 or 5%. A little worrying. Google Now is turned off etc, just data, 3G and sync was enabled (just like I used to have with ICS).
I've just backed up my phone and might try a factory reset and restore to see if that fixes it.
I have noticed that if I open CPU Spy and reset the timers, then lock my phone and wait a minute, it is spending a fair bit of time with the CPU at 475mhz. I used to get deep sleep for 90+ % of the time, with 4.1 it seems to deep sleep about 60% of the time.
I'm gonna see if I can figure out what's waking it.
Did either of you do a factory reset after updating?
EDIT: Did a factory reset, installed BBS and CPU Spy, and a quick test found it in deep sleep 87% of the time. Currently restoring using the LG backup app, we'll see if that sorts it or whether there's something else going on here. Will report back with my findings.
EDIT: Ok, LG's restore tool just finished restoring the backup. It worked fine, aside from warning me about possible problems from a 'cross version restore', even though I made the restore with the same firmware version. As a side note, that LG restore tool is SLOOOW! I have a few big games but it would have been faster to set everything up manually, haha. Probably 2-3 hours it took to restore, though it was hassle-free.
Phone seems to be sleeping much better now... a few tests with CPU spy show about 92% of the time spent in deep sleep, which is about what I'd get on ICS. It's early days but if you guys want to give it a shot, it's shown some promise.
I just checked my phone battery stats and saw this:
Where you see the huge battery drain that's where I was downloading and then testing NFS (had better results than on ICS btw)
Battery was on 40% so I closed everything, even WiFi and went to sleep (7-8 hours)
If you see the stats it did went into Deep Sleep in the beginning but something woke it up and kept draining the battery.

I wish they could build a CM10 ROM with OptimusUI... I really like the visuals.
I cant say I am pleased with battery life on JB. I only had it for one day but it drains faster than ICS. Through the night,in about 10 hours,no wifi,no sync,no 3g,fast rebooted it drained 15%!On ICS,in that period of time, it would drain 3-4% max...On CPU Spy, "deep sleep" is only 33% so something is draining the batt..Anyone else with this probl?
Another update... I started having my phone only deep sleep for about 60% of the time again... and I think I have figured out why. Go to Google Maps, go into settings and check that "Report from this device" is unticked! Mine had somehow been enabled and I am fairly sure it was responsible for my deep sleep issue.

I was experiencing the same high drain overnight until I stumbled upon a thread on here which suggested deleting the maps apk and odex file from the system/app folder using a root explorer. you can then reinstall it from the market. I also did the same with chrome.
before I checked with BBS and maps location services were waking the system up constantly, but after doing the above things are much much better.
you can also try disabling MLT in the hidden menu 3845#*880# as there's a thread in general suggesting this logging app could be eating into battery life/ performance.
Is it normal that the battery drain overnight is over 10% in 7-8h ?
My battery life is very poor..Over the night it drained 30%!!! And I killed all the apps, wifi, 3G everything... Through CPU Spy I can see that my phone doesnt go in deep sleep(only 13%) and it is working on 51MHz for 76% of time!! And I`m not even touching it,the screen is off...Whats up with that? How can I fix it?
P.S. I disabled Google Maps because I heard that they consume a lot of battery in the background..

Either use BetterBatteryStats (which is available free for XDA members, search the forum), or Wakelock Detector. To use either of them, plug in your phone and let it charge up. Open BBS, it will create a reference state. Then unplug your phone and let it sit overnight. In the morning open either application and it will show all the wakelocks (times at which the processor was prevented from deep sleeping). Look at what's keeping the phone awake, and remove/disable it.

[Q] Battery problem

I have problem with my s3 mini.
I used stock ROM. it's still official without any root or something.
My baseband is DXAMB1.
My problem is, when I start my phone, the battery life up to 18 hours. But after 70-80 hours up time, the battery suddenly really sucks.
it just about 9-10 hours a day. For example (I forgot to screen capture), I charged my phone and full at 11 pm and then in the morning (6 am) it says my battery 50%. When I look at the battery status it says Android OS stay awakes for 6 hours.
After I restart my phone, it back to normal. When I woke up, it says 80% battery and Android OS stay awakes for 1 hours.
Everytime my battery life become sucks, I need to restart the phone.
Is anybody have the some problem with me? And how to fix this?
It just sucks that I have to restart my phone every 3 days.

Benz rom, golden kernel and setcpu. When you install the first two, set the minimum cpu clock to 200 mhz and max to 1000.Select pegasus governour and check "set on boot" option.I had poor battery life, but now it can last 24 hours with medium usage.

I checked another thread and I found the answer without using any custom ROM.
He answered = "Developer option, background process up to 4 process" and it works! :fingers-crossed:

I was pretty curious about this option too, some time ago, so I googled it and finally came to the opinion that it is like using a task manager, = useless on Android, because it has its own RAM manager.
This option to limit process is what it is: for developers, to test how their eventual app handle once it goes in background, and what if once killed. (read http://www.extremetech.com/computing/112013-how-multitasking-works-on-android-and-ios/2)
My personal advice/choice for a longer life for your battery:
1 - root your device and freeze/delete bloatware (system apps: first freeze them, see how it goes, then, delete them (after making a backup)
2 - use
A) Juice Defender (balanced or aggressive), set 2g connection when the device is in your pocket,
B) Use Wakelock Detector to check what most consumes your battery (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en)
3 - use wifi and 3g only when needed, - don't count on the smartness of automatic mode 2g/3g under data
4 - switch off syncronization if you don't need it 24h (whatsapp / viber will work anyway)
5 - settings / display /
A) Auto adjust display tone ON
B) Turn off softkeys (I know exactly where 'back' and 'option' keys are..)
6 - Power saving mode ON for screen and cpu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XTLTBo2DRQA)
7 - Disable double tap on home button for S-Voice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmU8hXUXNFE)
8 - Keep normally a mid-low brightness level, you can adjust it quickly if needed, can't you?
9 - Disable Auto-update in Google Play (you can update manually)
10 - How To Disable Samsung Push Service and Samsung Ad Utility Services (http://www.eyes4tech.com/2013/03/ho...e-samsung-push-service-and-samsung-ad-utility)
11 - Turn OFF vibration (actually, I like it and I use it for SMS and incoming phone calls)
12 - Set airplane mode when you go to sleep (or just switch it off if you don't count on it for morning alarm or to use it as an eventual light)
13 - Never use a Task manager
Assuming you're enough smart for keeping Bluetooth OFF if you don't need it, by this way, according to my daily use (phone calls, texting, internet, no gaming), I recharge it each 1d 15/22 hrs.
Hopefully this helps. :cyclops:
