Try removing the SIM and microSD cards when you flash.
Make sure you're using the right version of Odin.
Make sure you're using the OPS file.
Try changing USB ports. If you're on a tower computer, use the USB ports at the back.
Try using a different microUSB cable. Even if your cable worked before, remember that Odin is very picky with USB cables.

Its the ops file maybe its corrupted get new copy

Thanks for this wonderful contribution genius post count spammers.
Back on-topic, please verify you have the S5380 version. Then download a fresh copy of the Odin version for it.
Then go to sammfirmware and download the software version that is most likely to be your original.
Input the required cooper.ops file into Odin.
Next, remove your battery and put your phone ( without the battery, just hook it up wit PC.) Into download mode.
Select the proper files CSC, modem etc. and start Odin again. Then have patience. If it seems to be stuck, let it try for at least an hour.

Right Click Odin (executable file), then run as an administrator. Make sure all files needed for updates are stored in the hard drive of your machine (desktop/laptop). Otherwise update won't be successful. Usually it takes +/-5 minutes.
It keeps coming up with this message about 10 seconds in <1> --- cannot open the usb serial port. code: 32

[Q]Samsung Captivate bricked?

Recently, I was updating my new Captivate using Kies Mini and the update failed, I flashed a couple of ROMs using Odinoneclick and after a couple of tries, I ****ed up my phone, I got it to a point where it would go through a boot loop and eventually get to the GB rom I installed but even that barely worked. Now I finally got my phone into download mode (actually the screeen with the pic of the phone then the triangle then the computer) but my phone wont be detected by my laptop (as in no message pops up as I plug it in) so I can't do an Odin Oneclick to stock 2.1. What can I do to fix this?
Thanks in advance

If you installed Heimdall, Odin won't work on the same USB port. I assume you already tried deleting and reinstalling your drivers?
The only thing that worked for me when that happened before was using a different USB port and finaly flashed KK4 through Odin. If you have access to another pc, that would probably fix your connection problem as well (as long as that pc has the needed drivers).

Well then you don't have that many options left. If I were you, I'd keep trying to delete/reinstall drivers (of course, pc restart), swapping USB port and try both Odin and Heimdall (remember that Odin won't work on the same USB port as Heimwall installed his drivers on). Perhaps, using a different usb cable would work too. After that, the only thing I can think would be to use a different pc.
Sometime it's a mix of those things that will make it work, our cappys are quite capricious lol.

I made a 300k ohm jig and it worked but now when I try it, I think it puts the phone in Firmware error mode or whatever its called, or am I just doing it wrong
U r doing it right. That can be an alternate download mode.
U just got to get Odin or Heimdall to recoqnize it now, so u can flash a Stock firmware.
Have u tried using a different micro usb/usb cable to get Odin to see ur phone ? And usb port in the back of the pc, not a hub ?

Ok...but if u can get ur hands on another cable, it would definately be worth a try, especially if all else is not working. I have personally see it and read it over and over that a different cable does the trick.

Is it most likely the cable?
Idk about most likely...but like i said, if u have exhausted all other means, then it is worth trying.
I personally found several at a Dollar Tree store over a year and a half ago. I use one of them all of the time instead of the one that came with the phone, because that samsung cable just stopped workin for me just outta the blue. It happens. One day a trustworthy cable and then one day not. And of all things, the cable i got for a $1 has worked great.

1.Samsung USB drivers are installed properly. Fast and easy way to do this is install Samsung Kies (if you don't have it already.)
2.Your device is connected properly in download mode.
3.Samsung Kies (aka Kies PC) and all it's process are closed (not running in the background). You can freeze Samsung Kies or uninstall i
You must use 4.38 odin version! any other ver wont work!!

[Q] What is this?

Everything went wrong here.
This is the result of a failed odin upgrade/clockworkmod recovery flash/ loading custom ROM (FastyII) ...
I just want to know if this is fixable. I can't get into recovery mode either but download mode works fine. The phone seems to be in a bootloop, it goes into the AT&T screen then what is shown in the photo.
Oh and I believe I'm in the right section, 1001 apologies if I am not. I looked through different posts to see if anyone had this problem and didn't see anything.
If this is fixable, can someone recommend a VIDEO or explain things to me as if I had 0 knowledge of anything android-related...

If I'm not mistaken you have flashed a gingerbread ROM. Tried to look up the thread on Fasty 2 but couldn't locate it. Anyway it looks to me like you tried to install a gingerbread ROM without installing gingerbread bootloaders. Since you have access to download mode and have odin I would suggest you follow the steps in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266 After following that you should be good to go flashing whatever ROM you would like.

You are correct that its not doing anything which leads me to believe Odin isn't seeing your phone. When your phone is plugged in it should it should show you the com port in Odin. If your phone is in download mode, and odin is loaded on the pc, and you then connect the cable and the little square doesn't turn yellow in odin.......
you could have a cable issue, a pc device driver issue, or you might need to use a different usb port, or worst of all a bad micro usb port on the phone.

No, the data wires or port pins could be the issue. those don't prevent charging.....the reason I mentioned those is because if odin is running and all is good, and your in dl mode when you connect, there is no other reasons it wouldn't work that I have seen.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1161102 ........ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843 ..If these don't help I'm not sure what else you can do. I would try a different cable or usb port, a different computer with the device drivers installed, or maybe even re install the device drivers or try a different microusb device you know works to see if it will transfer data to rule out the cable and pc/port.
Edit: quick search found this....very good writeup... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049294

What OS are you using on your PC. Cause windows 7 usually grabs all the right drivers for download mode, and then you can flash away. I know I had trouble trying to flash stuff from an from an old XP, soft bricked it in the process. But on 7 I had no problem. Try it.

Agreed. Had issues with old cappy. Found it to be the USB port on the cappy itself. Got a new one, plugged it in, Windows 7 had no problem detecting it and dling the drivers on its own. Even for download mode.
Worst comes to worst and you can't send data to the phone via usb cable, only option would be to have the port repaired which is about $35. I paid $70 for my cappy used so if yours has other issues it would probably be more cost effective to just buy a new one and use the old for spare parts.
Again this is ONLY if you can't get anything to work.

Windows 8.
UPDATE. The phone died and came back to the colored state again. Odin will recognize the device as it is in the colored state, but doesn't seem to recognize it in DL mode.
