Everything went wrong here.
This is the result of a failed odin upgrade/clockworkmod recovery flash/ loading custom ROM (FastyII) ...
I just want to know if this is fixable. I can't get into recovery mode either but download mode works fine. The phone seems to be in a bootloop, it goes into the AT&T screen then what is shown in the photo.
Oh and I believe I'm in the right section, 1001 apologies if I am not. I looked through different posts to see if anyone had this problem and didn't see anything.
If this is fixable, can someone recommend a VIDEO or explain things to me as if I had 0 knowledge of anything android-related...

If I'm not mistaken you have flashed a gingerbread ROM. Tried to look up the thread on Fasty 2 but couldn't locate it. Anyway it looks to me like you tried to install a gingerbread ROM without installing gingerbread bootloaders. Since you have access to download mode and have odin I would suggest you follow the steps in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350266 After following that you should be good to go flashing whatever ROM you would like.

Okay this is what I used last time. I'm at step 6, I press start and "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)" comes up. Which means nothing is happening, right? Even if it is, I progress to step 8 and then eventually 9 and I get the "<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)" when I hit start.

You are correct that its not doing anything which leads me to believe Odin isn't seeing your phone. When your phone is plugged in it should it should show you the com port in Odin. If you're not seeing that then you're having connection issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953930 have a look there for troubleshooting your connections.

Actually, my phone connected and disconnect and keeps doing so while going to the colorful screen. But it goes to download mode and doesn't want to be recognized by odin. My cpu will recoginze that it is in download mode but odin won't connect. After seeing that, I put my phone into what is supposed to be recovery mode...now it goes to the AT&T screen and sits there.

If your phone is in download mode, and odin is loaded on the pc, and you then connect the cable and the little square doesn't turn yellow in odin.......
you could have a cable issue, a pc device driver issue, or you might need to use a different usb port, or worst of all a bad micro usb port on the phone.

No, the data wires or port pins could be the issue. those don't prevent charging.....the reason I mentioned those is because if odin is running and all is good, and your in dl mode when you connect, there is no other reasons it wouldn't work that I have seen.

What OS are you using on your PC. Cause windows 7 usually grabs all the right drivers for download mode, and then you can flash away. I know I had trouble trying to flash stuff from an from an old XP, soft bricked it in the process. But on 7 I had no problem. Try it.

Agreed. Had issues with old cappy. Found it to be the USB port on the cappy itself. Got a new one, plugged it in, Windows 7 had no problem detecting it and dling the drivers on its own. Even for download mode.
Worst comes to worst and you can't send data to the phone via usb cable, only option would be to have the port repaired which is about $35. I paid $70 for my cappy used so if yours has other issues it would probably be more cost effective to just buy a new one and use the old for spare parts.
Again this is ONLY if you can't get anything to work.

UPDATE. The phone died and came back to the colored state again. Odin will recognize the device as it is in the colored state, but doesn't seem to recognize it in DL mode.

I was running on cognition and I decided to apply a speed kernal. I did, but I was not aware that it wasn't compatible with froyo. Now my phone shows the AT&T thing, says some weird techno voice thing, then restarts the process. I have tried holding volume up and volume down and power in order to get to recovery menu and it doesn't work. I have tried syncing with my computer, but it wasn't set on debugging beforehand so odin does not recognize it. I have tried everything I can think of yet to no avail.(spelling?) I really like my captivate and I could not bear to part from it. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried using ADB to get into download mode. The only way to fix this will be to reflash stock and start over. You could also use Odin one click to flash back to stock as I dont thing debugging needs to be on for the download mode to work

I have tried getting into recovery again, but it goes through the cycle no matter what.
First: I downloaded the USB drivers from the Samsung Website and installed them.
Second: I downloaded Odin once click
Third: I take the battery out of my phone along with the sim card and micro SD card. Then I replace the battery
Fourth: Open Odin and plug in the USB sync cord
Fifth: I hold down the volume up and volume down buttons on the phone an insert the USB sync cord.
Sixth: A droid is pictured sweeping inside of a yellow triangle.
Seventh: I wait
Then after that, Odin doesn't recognize the phone.
Are you using the original cord that came with phone? Are you using a desktop or laptop? have you tried different usb ports? Have you tried the drivers on the odin thread?

I have tried that several times but it doesnt work. It says that the directory doesn't exist.
Ok so i was on 2.2 Firefly and tried to flash stock GB. Did a reset and wiped the dalvik. Put the phone in DL and Windows (Vista 32b) is not detecting the phone, it spits a usb unknown device. Had to pull and plug the usb a few times until it finally get a good detection in Odin.
Now the real fun begins.. Started the flash and got stuck at "Do not turn of target" for more then 5 minutes. No activity, no bars going up.. nothing. I unplug the usb and replug..No more detection. Remove the batt and try DL again...Bingo black screen of death ! and can't go in DL anymore.
I got a usb jib and it works.. hooray or so i thought. Plug in the device and now windows is still not detecting the phone and install a "unknown device" under usb section. I uninstalled all the drivers i had and reinstalled... same issue.
Downloaded heimdall and that's were the revelation came... My device is f*** up real bad. My USB\VID and PID are now both 0000 (VID_0000&PID_0000) and not "VID_04E8&PID_681C". Windows driver can't recognize the device because of it. Tried putting a entry with 0000 in the driver .inf but it still can't detect the phone. I only have a "Samsung USB Composite device" with a error code 10 (cannot start device) under device manager.
SO..Is there a magic solution to bring this thing alive with Odin or heimdall or is jtag recovery the only solution left ?
EDIT: FINALLY !!!!!!!!!!!! After 3 days of driver install and port switching i found a way to get Odin to detect my soft brick phone in DL. I used my usb hub (yes you read that correctly) to plug in my phone and Odin detected a com8 connection. I flashed via the usb hub and i'm now back on track !!!
Stuck with this same problem...
I can get it into Download Mode ONLY with a jig...
other than that anything i do (turning it on, plugging it in) makes a weird screen appear that has the following:
[cell phone] .. [caution symbol] .. [computer]
both windows and ODIN will not detect phone both on this screen and in download mode
got ODIN to detect phone twice after multiple attempts and it says that it starts the flash but that is as far as it gets... second time i left it all night connected with ODIN running in a feeble attempt to get to flash back to stock
trying different USB ports, i do not currently own a USB hub like the author of this thread used to finally get it working...
quite frustrated...

Try a diff USB cable too.
Mine did the USB not recognized thing due to a faulty cable.
This happened to me a while back. There was only one way I was able to get to download mode. See if it works for you -
1. pull battery, count to 10
2. reinsert battery, DO NOT TOUCH ANY BUTTONS exept to follow the next step
3. When I would hold down the vol Up and vol Down together for several seconds, the screen would blink. When the screen blinked I inserted the USB cable. Bam - download mode.
Hope it helps.
edit: well, this is coming from the "phone ! computer" screen. sorry
Able to get unto download mode... I will try the different cable idea in the morning... well... it is morning so in like 6 hours lol... thanks I'll let you know...

How I solved USB soft brick.
I had something similar, and have been searching for hours to find the following sollution:
Source: http://android.modaco.com/topic/309961-usb-brickrickrolledb0rked-fixed/
...
Also, SD card functionality has to work. For this, do 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' in fastboot mode.
Steps involved:
1. Find out your CID. Go into fastboot mode, and do 'fastboot oem boot'.
The log will say something like the following:
Code:
#INFOTAG:Ramdisk OK
#INFOTAG:smi ok, size = 0
#INFOTAG:hwid 0x0
#INFOTAG:skuid 0x21F04
#INFOTAG:hero panel = 0x0
#INFOTAG:engineerid = 0x0
#INFOMCP dual-die
#INFOMCP dual-die
#INFOTAG:mono-die = 0x0
#INFODevice CID is not super CID
#INFOCID is HTC__E11
In this specific case, the CID is HTC__E11.
2. Get the following mtd0.img from here or from here: mirror provided by SgtDavePwnage.
Edit this image to the CID you found above with a hex editor.
3. Get flash_image from here or from here: mirror provided by SgtDavePwnage.
Move this to /data/ , and flash the modified image using:
"/data/flash_image misc /data/mtd0.img"
You can move both mtd0.img and flash_image by putting it on your sdcard, and issueing the following command in a terminal emulator:
'cat /sdcard/flash_image > /data/flash_image'
'cat /sdcard/mtd0.img > /data/mtd0.img'
You might have to do 'chmod u+x /data/flash_image' before you run the commands (or chmod 755 /data/flash_image)
4. Repeat step 3 a couple of times if it doesn't seem to work well.
5. All done! Reboot, you should have normal usb connectivity. Post your 'fastboot oem boot' log and intermediate steps if it fails.

Ive got my phone into a boot loop state because I messed up when trying to restore a previous backup of CM7 that I had.
Okay I thought, this is not a problem I will just do a clean flash of something via odin with my phone in download mode. This is where the problem lays. Odin can not see my phone when its in download mode and plugged in via USB! I have flash roms via Odin before so know what I'm doing.
I've tried it on 2 windows 7 64bit laptops and different USB ports but both are the same! could this be a driver issue? I have Kies installed on both and have manually tried installing the driver too.
Other things to note is that I can't get into recovery mode but no problem getting into download. Also when I plug the phone into charge it doesnt come up with the battery symbol but only the circle of rectangles like it is loading the battery symbol which never appears.
Anyone know what is going on?

If you are CM7, you may need Nexus S Drivers.
See this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061946&page=879
Download and extract to folder.
When phone connected, locate it in your computers devive manager and update driver and point to your folder where you extracted for installation.
Thanks spaikas!
I guess I will have to go out and buy a new cable to try that. One thing though is that even when I plug it into the mains power adaptor I still get the circle of rectangles as well as when its plugged into my PC (with the supposedly defective cable). So does this suggest that the circle of rectangles is not caused by a bad cable? but still my cable being bad could be a culprit for odin not seeing it.

Thanks. I have downloaded and extracted the driver. But I can't find my phone in device manager. Does the phone have to be in download mode for windows to be able to see it. Do you know roughly what it would be called?

I can't get into CWM! Is there no way to install the Nexus S driver without having the phone plugged in because otherwise I have no idea what I'm going to do....
It was my cable! Sorry for wasting your time guys but it was just a very unlucky coincidence that my cable must of broke at the same time that I messed up my phone and needed to do a odin flash! Anyway managed to get my hands on another cable and now odin can see my phone!
) congratulations!
i was so happy too, when i pluged 3rd cable, and found it good

So I was flashing a stock rom from Odin, and Odin froze, so I unplugged the phone and took out the battery. Now, when I try to get into download mode, all I get is a screen with a phone-!-computer. Even with a usb jig, it just goes to this screen. My captivate is also not recognized by the computer when I plug it in when its on the phone-!-computer screen.

Have you tried all the steps in the Captivate Connection Issues post (in my signature)?
Does it say something about hardware upgrade failure?

Nope. It just doesn't show up at all; not even in device manager and it just shows the phone exclamation computer screen.

Yea more or less. The weird thing is it was detected before and odin was able to start the flash. But it hung after it said do not disconnect the device so I was forced to unplug it. Now I just don't see anything at all.

Have you given Heimdall a try? It sometimes works when Odin won't.

Yep. When I try to install the heimdall driver, the phone doesn't even show up so it won't install.

But I don't see the Libusb tab in device manager when I plug my phone in.
When u initially installed the drivers for Heimdall, they only installed to the usb port that u were connected to. So u need to be plugged into that specific port and then u should see it in the Device Manager.
And u really don't need to uninstall the drivers that u need for Heimdall, as long as u installed them after u installed the drivers from Kies. See this post... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19998299&postcount=115
And if u have tried everything in the Stickied thread--Captivate Connection Issues and Download Mode Help to no avail, then ??

Yep I made a jig and it works but it doesn't go to the downloading screen with the shovel instead it just goes to the screen with the phone exclamation computer.
Then try this...may sound odd but anyway--just pull ur battery and leave it out for 5 minutes or so and then put it back in and try getting back into download mode and see what happens.
Btw, which stock odin were u trying that got u in this mess ?

happened to my cappy yesterday. went through 7 hours to fix mine. had the same issue as yours. no download mode showing with any combo I try even recovery had 4 micro usb cables and still my pc is choosy. that screen is actually download mode. you just need the proper drivers for the pc to read it. I used the one from heimdall. tried for atleast 100x before my pc recognizes my cappy as gadget serial and then boom! after installing, uninstalling and reinstalling all is A-ok now. just try it and have faith on your cappy

What did you try before it was recognized? Did you just plug and replug the usb into the computer until it worked?
Mine did this before, when I accidently forgot to convert back to RFS before flashing back to stock, and I thought I was totally screwed. After this screen comes up the first time it will not go away, even if a download jig is used, until you get a good flash.
Try this:
Open your Odin, and have it ready with whatever you were trying to flash to begin with. Pull the battery on your phone, put your download jig in, and now put your battery in. It will still be the error screen that comes up. Pull your jig, and now plug your phone in. It should show on Odin now, and this flash should take correctly.

Also make sure the USB port you are using is a direct link to your board. I always use one of the original USB 2 ports on the back of my computer. Not using a USB hub either, but straight from the port to your phone.
Hello there,
I am Belgian so i'm gonna try to do my best to find my english somewhere
I have a samsung galaxy s3 mini gt-i8190..
I have tried to flash with odin thru pda BUT it stopped with fail as result..
Then i have tried to put original firmware back the same way but fail again,
then tried again with same original firmware and succeeded..
Phone froze at samsung logo, tried again and now i got the message "firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Ok, so i plug the phone back in the usb cable: Device Not Recognized! (windows 7 ultimate laptop).
I can get in to download mode: still not recognized via usb.
recovery mode DOESN'T work at all (3 button combo) just the error message at the normal boot and the download mode.
So basically i can't flash cause i can't connect, reinstalled drivers, used another pc, same thing...
It doesn't even charge the phone..
Odin mode says:
Product name: GT-I8190
Custom Binary Download: YES (4 counts)
Current binary: Custom
System status: Official
So does there somehow any file exists to put on my sd card to access usb OR a file to go into recovery mode.
Any tip is welcome, will try them all..
Thanks by advance,
yoni089
Have you tried installing Samsung's USB Driver? I know installing kies comes with the USB drivers but just in case. You might want to check if it's properly installed in your computer. Try reseting your counter first with Triangle Away. Please tell me more of what you did.
Click on the thanks button if I helped!
Change usb port and make sure all processes with kies are killed in taskmanager.
Open Odin. Put the phone in download mode and connect usb.
Hello,
Thanks for the reply's
I did install Odin first, when i flashed my phone it failed..
So i decided to install kies to make sure i had the right drivers,
Uninstalled Kies without the drivers. The phone was still recognized back then!!
Flashed it again and again FAIL!
Since then NOTHING works with the usb connection, windows does not recognize my phone "unknown device".
So it doesnt even know what it is..
Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them, rebooted my laptop with battery out for a minute but nothing works..
Also i tried to connect to another pc but no luck..
So i guess the key on my phone for the driver to find is missing/deleted by flashing and failing..
That's why i asked if there is any file to putt on my sd card to be recognized by my computer.
I did tried many times using another usb port..
Also tried with and without sim card/ sd card.
(btw: does they have to be in there anyway?)
Thnx and grtz,
Yoni089

I know that, my connection worked fine i did see the com: port in odin and it said "added!".
then i started flashing again and suddenly "fail", got the triangle, went back to download mode, tried to connect again and windows OR Odin didn't recognized my phone anymore, device not recognized and no "com:" in odin.
Tried different ports, battery out for a minute, no sim, no sd, reinstalled drivers, nothing works..
That's the point why i made this thread cause i see no solution in this anymore, if i have no usb connection i can't flash ( OR IS THERE A WAY???), if i can't flash i probably can't get usb connection..
thx for the effort

With what you're saying, it seems something has gone corrupt. Maybe a binary or an image. Flashing a rom using your phone might fix this but it's not a 100% success. It might destroy your phone more or fix it. It's a 50/50... :fingers-crossed:

Ok. Many i8190 was delivered without working combo so I thought I should ask.
What happens when you try to enter recovery? (vol+/home/power)
Nothing at all, completely dead?

No kies, correct drivers, tried different ports. Then I don't know. Are you using original USB cable?
I once got a bad flash like you did, but at least Odin detected it and I was able to flash this firmware with repartition, because official stock fw didn't work for me neither.
nuotal you
