I have TnT Lite 3.14 and the Clem 10.9.8 kernel. Since the recent Rockplayer update as well, I can not play vids in accelerated mode. They worked fine before, but either the Rockplayer, TnT or the kernel updates are the issue (or combination).
When I try to play vids in accelerated mode, the app crashes and then the device will freeze up then reboot suddenly to the sparkly splash screen. For that matter, playing higher res WMV files freaks the stock video player out and the device will do the same thing.... I may have just eliminated Rockplayer and the root cause is either TnT Lite 3.14 or the Clem 10.9.8 kernel.
Anybody else having such issues?

I am using vegaN with the Clemson 10.9.3 kernel and have not seen it. I know it's not the same but what makes me wonder is you saying you are seeing the sparkle screen. That is from the old Zpad and if it were me I would wonder how much more leftover stuff was floating around in your tablet.. The leftovers may be causing your issues.

The X sparkle screen is not part of TnT?
This is my second G, so no zPad roms installed. Always been stock and then TnT Lite after that. No others tried. The box was sealed so should not be a refurb... Came from Staples, so probably not. Always wipe and clear cache.

Thats weird. The sparkle screen that looks like sideways fireworks? Lots of colors? If so, that is from Zpad. Don't know how it would have got there either. Stores can be pretty sneaky though with returns.

Then you don't have TnT. TnT boots with the big G and some other static thing. vegaN boots with Gtabdevs, and then Android. Only thing I have seen the sparkle thing on is the very first Zpad roms.
If you are up to it I would do the Nvflash restore to get all the way back to stock. Make sure to wipe data, factory restore, and wipe dalvik before doing Nvflash. I have found if I don't I end up with lots of leftover stuff even after Nvflash.
Probably not what you wanted to hear but I remember you saying that about the sparkles for a while now.
That is the boot animation that Roebeet puts in TNT Lite. Been there since version 1.

Nope. Roebeet is not changing the boot animation. It is the Android screen instead of the stock Viewsonic. There is a thread around here somewhere about this same subject. People not clearing data, factory reset, etc. Sparkle screen should not be there.

I have run several versions of tnt lite and that boot animation has been in every one of them. it's the animation from the nexus one. It's not exclusive to zpad.
The Sparkle screen does not belong. If you are seeing the sparkle screen then you have stuff on your tablet that does not belong there. If you bought your tablet and it has the sparkle screen then it is not running what everyone else is running.
I run vegaN and have for a while. I remembered no sparkle screen in TnT anything. I just did a backup and loaded TnT 3.1, and then added TnT 3.1.4... Guess what? No sparkle screen. It starts up with the ugly green G Tablet picture with the white background, and then switches to a screen that says Android. Just like I have always seen TnT everything do.. Like I said, this was an issue a while back. It is not supposed to be a sparkle screen and if you see it you have residual crap from somewhere else.
I am not a Psychic so I have no idea how you got it.. Or where you got it. I just know you shouldn't...
I have run every version of tnt lite since 2.2 and they all have had the nexus one boot screen.when I boot my tablet I see the viewsonic birds then the gtablet logo, and finally the nexus one fireworks X.
ETA: roebeet's change log found on the development board states that "tnt boot screen replaced with standard boot screen"

That's real good.. You are now another member of the you have a screwed up tablet club...
That bootscreen is on the Nexus, Zpad, I'm sure lots of other places. Point I am making is it does not belong in TnTLite.. Or vegaN.
If you like it great. If you believe it is right, great.. If your tablet has other errors from remnant code.. Great..

Ok maybe you could tone down your ego a bit and use your vastly superior knowledge to explain how my tablet got a boot screen that is supposedly not in any of the code I or viewsonic loaded on to it.
All I know at this point is that I bought the tablet on december 28 2010. I charged the device, booted it up for the first time and let it do an ota update.i then installed clock work .8, then installed tnt lite 2.2 at which time the nexus boot animation appeared and has been around ever since. With the initial rom change and each change after I have wiped all data. Was the nexus boot animation part of the ota update? And if so why is it not being wiped when I change roms?
Rushless,
To answer your question, when I use hardware decoding I see the lock up and reboot you describe. When I use software decoding everything works fine. I have only played MP4 videos.

I don't have an ego issue so I don't know what I should be toning down. I responded to your post like that because it came across as another my tablet has it so it's right and yours is wrong post. If your tablet works, and you like the sparkles then great.. Doesn't really matter to me. My tablet works fine.
I don't have an answer for how you, and a few other people have ended up with the sparkle screen. My point is, and always has been that it does not belong in TnT, TnT Lite, or vegaN.
I have only seen that screen on a rom made for the G tab in one place and that is the original Zpad. Who knows what the OEM is loading on these things or how they are doing it. I have wondered if maybe some of these tablets may not have been destined to be Zpads, flashed with Zpad, and then ended up in a G tablet case and flashed with TnT at the factory or somewhere else later on to fill a shortage. If you don't clear data, dalvik, and do an Nvflash there is still stuff left over when I have done it. Who says the factory, or Viewsonic didn't shortcut?
My tablet came from the first batch of 1000 and it has never had the sparkle screen unless I put it there with the original Zpad rom. I don't have any idea if it really matter or not. But if folks are having issues it may be part of the cause and that was really the only purpose for me saying anything about it in the first place..

I can use hardware mode, in vegaN, using clemsons kernel, Without it locking up. It should work.
RockPlayer Universal v1.6.0
I am Testing it now ... RockPlayer Universal v1.6.0
Tested and Dont work as good as 1.55
I think the root cause may be Rockplayer 1.6. I am not the only person having the issue and different roms.
Wish I knew that before installing 4.1 now. I had a solid device with 3.14 and the Clem kernel, but now starting from scratch. Bleh. Even with Titanium, the 1gb of apps I have- it takes a while. Smallest violin time.

I wonder what they changed? I have 1.6 right now, admittedly don't use it a lot, but I haven't noticed a difference. Maybe the files you guys want it to play are a lot higher quality than what I use it for? I just watch mp4's that I made with Handbrake and it plays those well.

Prioir to 1.6, I could get higher def wmv files to play smooth with hardware decoding. Now it just kicks me out when trying to use it.
Same result with 4.1 and stock kernel as 3.14 with Clem. Only difference is Rockplayer 1.6 vs 1.55.
Need to find 1.55 and install it to confirm.
Just updated to v1.2.0 and re-rooted, but now I have a strange problem. I tried searching these forums, and The Google, but couldn't find anything helpful.
When you click in a text field (e.g., the search box, or the address bar of the browser), the keyboard will pop-up for about 1/2 second, and then minimize again. You can do this repeatedly with the same result - the keyboard just won't stay open.
I've tried rebooting, and even installing a different keyboard (can't get them to appear as an option in NCTools).
Has anyone else run into this? Were you able to fix it?
This used to happen to me when I used a Archos 28 "tablet". It was because there wasn't enough RAM most of the time, so it would close the keyboard to make more.
I doubt that's the case for the Nook Color, though. I've never had a problem with memory on these things.
I've had that happen as well but strangely only when the nook is at an angle like when I'm laying on my back in bed with the screen above me angled downward, tilting the screen so that it is facing up solves it for me, like I said, strange.

I just live with it, simply changing the angle seems to solve it, that's a simple enough fix for me.

FYI for anyone that runs into this thread later:
There must have been some glitch in the rooting process that screwed up the keyboard. I ended up doing the whole process over again by restoring back to stock 1.1, updating to 1.2, and re-rooting. Everything works like a charm now.
Incidentally, the stock/update/root process is a lot easier the second time you do it.
Hi, I have the exact issue, anyone knows where I can download 1.1 rom or 1.01 rom? I tried all 1.2, 1.3, 1.4.1, they all have the same issue. Thanks.
Every time before install new ROM, I formatted system, data, and cache, but seems still not totally formatted, cause 1, the keyboard part still mess up, now even cm7 on emmc has the issue. 2, the wifi connection still saved because it auto connects to my network every time flashed. Any idea? Thanks.
Perhaps not random, but possibly keyboard related. I believe I have experienced at least three, perhaps more reboots at various times. I just had one a minute ago when I opened my keyboard from a sleep state (dark screen). My lockscreen had what looked like a Droid X background which caught my attention, then after a couple of seconds, it rebooted.
As I mentioned, this has happened at least twice before, but always when I was trying to do something and (I believe) involving the keyboard. I've never had it reboot in the middle of anything, so the impact is negligible. Add to that how FAST the D3 reboots, it's a very minor annoyance. My old Tbolt used to do that as well, but the reboot time was probably three or four times as long, and it sometimes did it in the middle of something.
Has anyone else experienced this? If you have, sound off and perhaps we can get Moto's attention. If it's just me, then that's great news and I doubt I'll do anything about it since the impact is so minor.
It's hard not to notice since it makes the "Droid" noise when it reboots. Assuming you don't have the same sound assigned to a notification of course.
I noticed it yesterday once (and I just got the phone then too ;-; ), and it was while I was opening the camera app, I decided to open the keyboard for some reason (I don't know why), the phone locked up for a minute and then just rebooted. I also had a temporary lockup while opening up the keyboard while opening Handcent, but it regained responsiveness after about 15 seconds. For me it happens to be something to do with the keyboard while opening apps. We need more people to reproduce this problem so we can get down to the root cause :|
Got two droid 3`s in my house and haven't experience any random boots.

Happened to me while talking on the phone a few times. Got a replacement and it happened again. Never with the keyboard though. Very troubling especially with the second handset.
I have experienced reboots with the camera and camcorder apps lagging, and just general issues with those apps anyway.

I haven't had it happen since I originally posted until today. Today it rebooted in my pocket.
Perhaps it could just be a heat issue. I noticed that another thing along with my other conditions I posted was that the phone felt really hot.

The Droid 3 has a dual core 1 ghz processor processor built inside which is why it starts up so fast. Its probably having these problems because of the new android OS gingerbread 2.3.2 because of how new this operating system is. The first phone designed with the new OS for verizon wireless was the sony xperia which produced surprisingly a very good battery life with the processer designed for gaming built inside that phone.this reminds me of the first droid on Verizon the Motorola Droid A855 where there where some flukes where it would freeze up every now and then. But there were updates that eventually solved the problem. Because this is a relatively new OS there is deffinittely going to be some flukes in the software and there will be updates to solve these most likely coming soon. And especially as more and more users are buying this phone.

2. It runs Android 2.3.4. (Hence no root yet)

I haven't seen another reboot since the 28th but I did have the odd experience last night of not being able to get a new wallpaper to take. In fact, I noticed that it had one of the stock wallpapers on it, the diagonal black and grey bars, but couldn't change it. Then this morning I thought about it and rebooted the phone. The last wallpaper I'd tried to change it to came up on reboot. Interesting but not alarming... unless it starts doing that frequently.
FYI I haven't noticed it running hot at any point.
Thanks for all the input everyone.
Probably seen it do it half a dozen times. IIRC it's not a full reboot, just the Android stack (i.e., same Linux kernel instance).
Have a logcat of one and don't seen anything that suggests where the problem is..just a whole bunch of "com.xxxxxx.xxxx has died" followed by normal restart log messages.
Odd that you all are experiencing this. I have not had a single reboot.

This issue is starting to cause me a good bit of frustration. Most of the time it occurs when waking the phone (sliding out keyboard seems to make it particularly likely). Also seeing complete freezes now which require battery pull.
Phone is now more than 30 days old. It was purchased online. Anyone know the odds of getting a *NEW* (not refurbished) if attempting to return it now? I'm still pretty certain this is a software issue, but may try replacing it in the chance it isn't.
I went into wifi settings and chose to forget all the connections. No more random rebooted.

I wouldn't count on that being the issue.
I've had the problem out in the field (not connected to WiFi) and have had random reboots as well.
Heres a tip for troubleshooting this issue which i 90% guarantee - factory reset your phones put zero apps on them and tweaks, use it for a week and see if u get a reboot.
Then each week after add a single tweak or app(install/uninstall/freeze), may take a yr for some of us since we can't seem to stop downloading random badly coded apps lol...
-smc
For me at least SMC, I've had random reboots from stock during the first week. I'm putting it down to bad software for now.
I usually get 1 a week, sometimes less.

I get a random reboot usually once a week or sometimes twice a week. It depends on how often I use my camera too.
I unlocked the boot loader and rooted my phone yesterday.
I am noticing some lag which I did not notice before under the following circumstances amongst others:-
Changing from landscape to portrait.
Opening messages.
Touching the back arrow
etc.
I have restarted the phone a few times and un-installed any apps I previously loaded from the market.
Am I imagining things or could rooting the phone cause these problems?

Rooting the phone should change absolutely nothing. I'd suggest getting a custom ROM that's been debloated with some extra handy mods like APM, battery%, etc...
So, now we have it. But we need to look at the new "issues" we're all facing. Because we're going to need some help.
The Good
We lost a lot of Blurr (thank ya Jesus!) We have a faster, better camera. A more optimized kernal for what seems like an OS with lighter thumbprint. Its fast! We can disable dozens of needlessly running apps/services. New gallery is beautiful.
The Bad
We lost the "Exit" button in the browser. Google+ is in everything with options defaulting to send anonymous usage and target ads based on our data. Auto sign-in/up is everywhere. Nova Launcher keeps getting killed by Android Battery life seems way off. Factory reset is pretty much a requirement. Clock app is super weird. Verizon bloat seems like an extra appendage that won't be amputated. Smart Actions is still broken.
The Ugly
The font is terrible. No amazing wallpapers added.
We have ALMOST a Nexus experience. What are you guys seeing with update, and what problems have you fixed? I'm super concerned that I can't "Exit" the browser. I don't like things running in memory.
I love the new update. I got it from the soak test early this week. I did not wipe first. My nova launcher has never been killed and phone is running perfectly for me since Tuesday. Love it!!!

I'm loving it. It's so fast and less bloatware. Browser can't "Exit" just like all JB roms on all devices. We also lost sleep mode on power menu. Good to see we still have mass storage usb mode. It's been removed in all Moto new lineups. This is the best ota update I've ever applied on my Android devices.

The ONLY UGLY issue am facing:
My data from the network is somehow locked, or in short, not working. Visited Vodafone gallery & they checked the settings, which were fine, but still the data is not working by the network.
NEED HELP!
Please, suggest me how I can make the data work on my Droid 4!

Currently my phone is technically paralyzed because of this issue!

I have several friends and relatives with Droid 4's and RAZR's. These Jelly Bean updates have been hit or miss with results.
-One Droid 4 was a brand new phone with date code 03/13 and HW B. This phone received the update quickly and smoothly. Operation has been perfect.
-Another Droid 4 had date code 16/12 and HW A, never rooted or modded, update failed 3 times, left the phone soft bricked, had to be SBF'd back to ICS. The new update will just not play nice with this phone, so it will need to be replaced.
-A RAZR MAXX got this update smoothly and battery life has been great, no lags or hiccups.
-A regular RAZR got this update and battery life is horrible, the phone gets hot, wiping cache and data did not fix it. No prior issues with ICS.
I'm guessing that Motorola may have used different components in different batches and some just will not run properly.

yes i noticed this too. it's a little annoying but i think there should be an update to the update coming out soon. right now id like to figure out how i can reflash with jb possibly using rsdlite as i did with ics but someone said flashing to ics now would brick my d4. im getting random reboots like once a day, but i think it may have something to do with my attempt at installing lbe which sent the phone into bootloop. so i want to clear it all and start from the top.. but how?

Matter of fact, I had the phone root'ed, stock tether enabled on ICS. Unrooted the phone to get the update to install and once upgraded to JB, my tether was still working, so the upgrade did not reset the value in the SQL database.
Works brill anyhow.

the shift button on the physical keyboard likes to stop toggling occasionaly. rebooting the phone fixes it for a while.
when it stops toggling, you have to push [shift] and [1] to make a "!", instead of [shift] and then [1].

That is the most annoying bug there is for the JBupdate. Hope someone or MOT can fix this soon.

Weird - I'm pretty certain it had reset for me during the upgrade.
My D4 had the stock rom + the Google Now hacked into it, plus the latest version of Hashcode's CM10, which I'd been using steadily since the Bluetooth bugs were fixed. (Around two weeks ago.) On the stock ROM, I'd always had issues of the phone occasionally (often) going crazy with background processes or something where it would heat up quite a bit and the battery would drain quickly. I also had intermittent Bluetooth issues with my car connection, where it often wouldn't connect, requiring a reboot or toggling BT, and it would sometimes lose the connection after a call.
Running CM, it stayed cool and had much longer battery life, and BT worked much more reliably.
Removing the Google Now hack to install the JB update wasn't going smoothly, so I ended up just using RSDLite and wiping the phone completely then installing the JB update manually (it wasn't showing yet as an OTA.) It's definitely faster, BUT...
The Shift key often doesn't work correctly, as has been mentioned here
Bluetooth is wonky again and I have to tell it over and over to pair with my car
Mobile data just stopped working yesterday, even after rebooting, until I manually turned off and on mobile data
Battery life is atrocious; it has been getting hot a lot and I'm probably getting not much more than half the battery life that I got in CM. Looking in the Battery info, Screen is usually the biggest battery user, but I always have it either set to Auto or to a very dim display. Looking at CPU usage shows nothing obvious. It's common for the battery to get to 95-100' F or higher. Right now it's behaving and only at 72' F - it must know that I'm complaining about it.
I'm hoping that we'll soon see (if we haven't already; I haven't checked yet) a CM based on the new kernel, so we get everything working but with the better battery life and such. Video was the only issue that I was still seeing with it.

Just last evening I checked the System Updates on my unrooted Droid 4 and there it was! Upgraded it.
My data from the network is somehow locked, or in short, not working. Visited Vodafone gallery & they checked the settings, which were fine, but still the data is not working by the network.
NEED HELP!
Please, suggest me how I can make the data work on my Droid 4!
Please!
Currently my phone is technically paralyzed because of this issue!

Have you checked, that you APN still is entered in the phone ? Upgrade from ICS to JB removed my manual APN entry. I just re-entered it and all working.

I wonder why they axed sleep mode, I used that a lot. Does CM or AOKP still have it?

I've noticed that I'm seeing 3G/H notification in the notification bar while connected on WiFi. It didn't do this in ICS. I wonder whether that's just a cosmetic change or whether it has an impact on battery life. I've not noticed the shift problem, but the Caps Lock light doesn't seem to work any more.
Cheers,
Steve
