ics video mms - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i havent been able to find a solution, if there is one, for the video camera not having a setting to lower the quality of a video enough so it can be sent via mms. from what i can tell the ics camera in all roms has hd and sd setting and sd doesnt lower the quality enough for mms. ive poked around in the camera settings and in the forums and im at a loss. am i mising something?
thanks

Just encountered this. I have found one way. Compose a new text message and "Attach", then select "Capture Video". This will set the video camera to MMS quality.

i read that in a thread a few minutes ago. i havent tried the stock messenger app but for some reason handcent previously didnt give the option to capture. only gallery and quickpic to choose photos and videos. ive flashed a different rom since then and now it does give the option but when i choose capture: 'unfortunately camera has stopped'. capture photo option works but capture video doesnt.
fyi... ive had this problem with all ics roms ive used. cm9, slim ics, nostalgia, paranoid android, Team Nyx ICSSGS, and currently AOCP.
im beginning to think its a hardware issue since im having a multitude of other problems as well such as battery indicator saying its charging well after its been unplugged and the settings>about phone menu fc'ing in PA.
I appreciate the suggestion tho.

Morning bump

Still no nothing? I find it hard to believe there's nobody with a fix or workaround. I really don't want to use a lesser version of Android all because the pics camera can't do this. Again, its the pics camera on every from I've tried.

[FIX] Possible fix for CM 6.1 Camera FC issues-MERGED 20101122

The fix below has been merged into the nightlies!! expect to see it on the 23rd.
If you're impatient, you can install a compiled version of the apk from recovery...
---------------
The camera issue is for ALL of cyanogenmod, not just us dinc users.
I've grabbed some of the patches that are being worked on and put some of my own work into it.
Please let me know what you find.
For me, it crashes almost every single time if I use continuous focus, but it's fine with infinity.
Screen off and on works without FC, but the camera is hard coded to not allow recording with screen off.
1. Backup
2. Flash aosp-camera-fix-v1.0.zip
3. reboot..
flashed
Just flashed, off to a meeting but will report back shortly. I would love to be able to shoot video in 720.
in to see the responses
no issues
No FC in continuous or infinity mode. Shot about 10 minutes of video in both. Screen off then on kills recording. Still no 720p recording mode though (not that this was supposed to fix that, I was just hoping).
Recap: No camera/video FC in either mode (continuous or infinity)
Thanks for this
...
To get 720 p.. Make sure quality is set to custom and file type is mpeg4, then it should show up in the settings.
Someone alert camalus!
I will be flashing this after work today! Thank you!!!

Maybe cam fix, definitely not led fix tho.. hasn't been approved.
hi seanzer. on cm nightly build #161 - issue: when on videocam, and i turn off the screen (recording or not), when you unlock, the videocam becomes almost half the size of the screen (with the preview screen almost a quarter the size, and is now on the lower left), and it's unresponsive.

Same thing happened on my friends moto Droid 1.. i think the latest commit to the camera broke it. Try a nightly before the 24th... which only contains my camera fix. I haven't had time to test the latest nightly yet, but I will have to investigate more what happened..

anyone know? is this the same with all aosp roms?.. the camera just isn't as good as the htc cam.
Fixed my Nexus One
Installed on CM 6.1 on a Nexus One, fixed the camera for photos, haven't tested the videos.
Symptoms: Camera keeps crashing after a few shots. Force Close the application and if I tried to run it I only got a blackscreen until the Force Close window appeared.
It also rebooted my phone one 2 occasions.
Installed using Rom Manager:
Install from SD
Selected .zip
Backup Rom (Yes)
Wipe (NO!!!)
Everything went smooth.
Now I'm taking pictures, modifying settings, Touch Focus, everything seems to work.
Took 20 pictures in a row and fast.
Thanks for the fix
I had high expectations on this one, I tried it but I still get FC on the camera.
I have a Magic and I am running the CM 6.1 Rom

If you look at the resolution of the 8mp wide setting on the stock sense camera, it's not actually 8mp. It's really the same as 6mp wide on the CM camera.

Qik Video Chat Working on Gtab VEGAn-TAB GE RC1

Always looking for a video chat client that works.
Audio and video live chat working on VEGAn-TAB GE RC1
Video quality set to high: is a little grainy at times, but usable.
Original Post
Link: Qik that works on CM7/Gingerbread 2.3.X
have you been able to get it to work with the "new version is now available" message? I downloaded the APK from that thread and it's not letting me get past that screen - but can't find the "new version" in the market
I am running CM7 nightly and I tried it but it would force close because in settings it is set to record from the back camera which the gtablet does not have.
So this won't work on vegan rom? Froyo?
not sure..I think it worked before when i was not running cm7.

Any updates about this ?
Can't find it on my the market (CM7).
Market on my PC says that Gtab isn't compatible.
Is there any additional market fixes we need to do ?!
Works here on calkulin froyo. Good thing is it now supports android to iphone video chat.
Tango works as well, they're both pretty similar.

Works fine for me. I called my iPhone and had no problem. It seems though as it defaults each time to a missing camera. Just hit the camera swap button and then the video of myself pops up. That's the only annoyance but overall it works well. I can't record video to send as a message however. It comes up with the camera locked error. I can only do the 2way live chat but that's all I really need anyways. This works for now until they release a Skype app that works with the Gtab.

When you go to any menu that record video (compose a message, record .. etc), the screen with the side "red" record button, displays a message in the center screen (where the video from your camera is supposed to show up) "Camera Locked".
Switching between front/back camera doesn't make a difference.
Press the "record" button gives the following error:
"Failed to start recording. Maybe the audio/video recorder is occupied by another application"
Its worthy noting that I am running CM7 (nightly 60), and my camera application always crashes (with a force close message) whenever video recording is attempted.
Camera locked message for me too

[Q] Camera working in ICS CM9 nightly build

I have installed 27th April CM9 Nightly build on my SGT P1000 and somehow, the camera is working perfectly fine. I am unable to find settings for the camera, but it's working perfect. The gallery is showing all the images that I have captured.
The reason of writing this post is that all other posts claim that the camera is not yet working for ICS port on SGT-P1000. I first installed Overcome 4.1.0 with the kernel, and then flashed the CM9.
The question is, how is it working, and is it normal to work?
If it is normal to work, can someone point me in the direction where i can follow the updates?
Links
I used this get.cm link for downloading the CWM flashable CM9 nightly build ROM. Just want all to know that EVERYTHING seems to be perfect. I flashed the ROM yesterday, and till now, everything works.
Wifi
Bluetooth
Video Recording
Camera
Music playback
video playback
GPS
Video calling (through skype etc.)
Front/Rear Cam
Smooth Screen Rotation
Live Wallpapers
Phone
Contacts
SD Mount
Market
Browser is smooth as ever, tabbed and can be linked with chrome
Just want to know if anyone else has flashed this, and if anyone else has cam working.
I remember someone came up with a fix for the camera in the form of a flashable zip a while back so I imagine it's been included in the latest CM9 builds.
Well, I am still waiting for people to comment on it. I haven't found any comments. Is there a thread following the nightly CM9 build for p1000?
It has been working fine for many weeks.
This is the discussion thread

Thanks Priyana, just a little problem, i posted in a new question thread aswell.
Unfortunately, camera closed. This error I am getting frequently. Not always, but frequently. I have no idea what is causing the app to run sometimes, but close at other times.
I am on aokp milestone 5.
I also have camera fc from time to time.

Little manual fix i have. Put the cam to 2.5 MP and when your'e clicking a pic, dont press and hold the blue button. Just push and let go. The pic will snap, and the frequency of cam gone FC will reduce by 90%. I think there is a problem with the autofocus which causes the cam to go bonkers. Do try it and share...

[Q] Blue cast on photos and screens

Noob ? ... I have a blue cast over all photos and what seems to be a blue tint on other screens. I didn't have the problem with Gingerbread.
Flashed several different ROMs from Cyanogenmod to get to Android 4.2.2 with photosphere. Finally flashed ATT Captivate with Cyanogenmod 10.1-20130416-EXPERIMENTAL-captivateMTD-M3 (Android 4.2.2). Then deleted the gallery and added 4.2Camera_OG.zip.
Loaded Nova launcher thinking in might solve the problem.
Photosphere works but, still have blue photos.
No help on Cyanogenmod site, Google etc. Can someone please tell me (in relatively simple terms) how I can fix this problem. I'd really like to keep Photosphere and have the results be multicolor instead of blue.
You got photosphere to work on captivate? Strange since since photosphere is not supported on captivate due to lack of gyroscope?

I'm surprised that 4.2.2 runs at all on the i897. I found a mod that installs a new camera/gallery that includes photosphere. Only tested for a minute or two since any photos made would be useless with the blue cast. But ... I only chased the blue dot up and down and didn't test left or right.
Maybe photosphere isn't working after all, but I'd still like to know what's causing the blue photos. It's like someone place a blue gel over my lens. My son is getting the camera once it's working again. The longevity of him keeping track of a Nexus 4 would be measured in weeks. I'd rather lose the i897.
Just can't figure out why my photos are blue. I've tried everything except going back to Gingerbread.
Is it JUST the photos?
Nandroid, go back to stock see if it's still blue. If it is then replace the camera (very VERY easy, it's just connected with a ribbon cable). If not, try a different camera app.

Not the camera. Went back to GB and the photos were color balanced correctly. With Cyanogenmod 4.2.2, there is a definite blue cast on the photos. Other screens don't look 100% correct as there appears to be some minor tinting of areas that should normally be white.
I read where I can use Jellybean 4.2 Camera APK on Gingerbread 2.3.6. Not sure if that will solve my problem.
Any other suggestions on camera app replacement would be helpful.
Read somewhere about photosphere not working properly with captivate. Maybe that is the case of your blues. As BB King sang, "Everyday, Everrryyy Daaay, I have the Blues"

Issue with cropping photo for contact picture

Hi, I found an issue with crop function when trying to make a contact picture.
From the contact or via assigning a picture to a contact by the gallery, it sometimes force to make the crop rectangular instead of a perfect square.
When saved, the contact picture looks stretchened in width and looks awful.
I've got this bug on stock Rom, or trickadroid one 5.4.
It's not always the case, and occurs with the photos taken with my one, or my Nikon d7000.
Is there a fix or a workaround ?
Thanks
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
I think this is bug and fix will come by update from htc
To be sure use another contact and gallery app and try to crop
Sent via my Google Nexus 7 | 32GB.WiFi
Ok there is a workaround, by using the 3rd party app
Assign contact photo,
It permits to crop correctly contact picture, it needs root access but I don't investigate why.
Hope HTC fix it one day.
This is really frustrating and I'm experiencing this too. My girlfriend had some wonderful SLR pictures of her taken with perfect lighting in an open field and each time I set it, it just gets squashed.
EDIT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oxplot.contactphotosync&hl=en worked fine. I didn't bother using the Sync feature.
