Hi, I found an issue with crop function when trying to make a contact picture.
From the contact or via assigning a picture to a contact by the gallery, it sometimes force to make the crop rectangular instead of a perfect square.
When saved, the contact picture looks stretchened in width and looks awful.
I've got this bug on stock Rom, or trickadroid one 5.4.
It's not always the case, and occurs with the photos taken with my one, or my Nikon d7000.
Is there a fix or a workaround ?
Thanks

I think this is bug and fix will come by update from htc
To be sure use another contact and gallery app and try to crop

Ok there is a workaround, by using the 3rd party app
Assign contact photo,
It permits to crop correctly contact picture, it needs root access but I don't investigate why.
Hope HTC fix it one day.
This is really frustrating and I'm experiencing this too. My girlfriend had some wonderful SLR pictures of her taken with perfect lighting in an open field and each time I set it, it just gets squashed.
EDIT: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oxplot.contactphotosync&hl=en worked fine. I didn't bother using the Sync feature.

I seem to have this problem with most apps that prompt the camera to be used. For example, the program "A World of Photo" (you send a random photo from your location to someone else in the world, and they send one to someone, etc) will automatically prompt my camera to come up so I can take the said picture, but after the pic is taken, it just goes back ready to take another pic as if I had opened the camera app. It doesn't go back to A World of Photo as I am assuming it should.
I am on CM 5.0.5.3 (wasn't feeling 5.6) and using the desire camera. Is the desire camera the problem, and how might I fix?
thx

Try reverting to stock camera and see if the problem persists.
Is that as easy as pushing the stock htccamera apk back in the system app folder or do i need to do something with the existing desire app? Sorry, still getting used to android.
edit: and why do I keep getting read-only filesystem errors when trying to do so?
edit2: ok just needed a remount - got it copied over. Now I have two camera apps lol.
edit3: yup it was the desire camera apps fault... well I have dual option now I guess so it does "work" with the stock camera app. Work in progress!
thx
Is there a hack/workaround, besides using an aftermarket messaging app (i.e. handscent) to allow MMS messages to be sent without being butchered by compression.
I hate taking awesome photos of my **** (rooster) and then learning that the receiving party gets a distorted grainy pic because of the stupid compression used to make the file smaller.
Unless, I'm blind I can't find anything to change that... I actually enjoy the native app and dont wanna resort to some overly featured messaging app just to send/receive pics at "close to true resolution" size.
Thanks!
Looks like my only option is to go with an aftermatket solution eh

i havent been able to find a solution, if there is one, for the video camera not having a setting to lower the quality of a video enough so it can be sent via mms. from what i can tell the ics camera in all roms has hd and sd setting and sd doesnt lower the quality enough for mms. ive poked around in the camera settings and in the forums and im at a loss. am i mising something?
thanks
Just encountered this. I have found one way. Compose a new text message and "Attach", then select "Capture Video". This will set the video camera to MMS quality.

i read that in a thread a few minutes ago. i havent tried the stock messenger app but for some reason handcent previously didnt give the option to capture. only gallery and quickpic to choose photos and videos. ive flashed a different rom since then and now it does give the option but when i choose capture: 'unfortunately camera has stopped'. capture photo option works but capture video doesnt.
fyi... ive had this problem with all ics roms ive used. cm9, slim ics, nostalgia, paranoid android, Team Nyx ICSSGS, and currently AOCP.
im beginning to think its a hardware issue since im having a multitude of other problems as well such as battery indicator saying its charging well after its been unplugged and the settings>about phone menu fc'ing in PA.
I appreciate the suggestion tho.
Morning bump

Still no nothing? I find it hard to believe there's nobody with a fix or workaround. I really don't want to use a lesser version of Android all because the pics camera can't do this. Again, its the pics camera on every from I've tried.

Recently got HTC One, really love this phone, but this issue is bordering me.
Only few contacts have hi-res photos. Even after I add through a web new HQ picture it syncs it in low res again.
If I add through phone new picture it works, people app shows hq picture, it even shows new pic on web (google contacts), but as soon as I remove account and add it again, it syncs again in low res !
Only few people are in high res, those one's I added ass soon as I sow news that google fixed this issue, is it back again or am I missing smth ?
Can abybody at least say that everything works for him ?

This happens to me too, if I set a high res picture for the contact on the HTC one it works for a bit but for some reason it goes low res after a while, I changed lots of contact pics to high res but slowly and seemingly at random they are becoming low res an dotty, I've also tried at the Google end, importing high res directly to Google contacts but the same happens

The problem you have is because Google compress them.
I use HD Contact Photos from the market. Works quite well.
HERE is the XDA thread.
Thanks for help!
But isn't Google fixed this issue in JellyBean ?
How come I get few contacts in high res ?

Well if they have it hasn't ever done it on mine yet. When I replace them they just go back crap unless I use the app I mentioned.

Just tried this app and I am not sure if it is working as I want to.
Yess, I do have hi-res photos now, but it hasn't updated it in web, so as soon I remove acc (or hard reset phone, eg. new rom) I will need to set-up all over again ?
EDIT: it seems that it updated photo on the web
Little bump. I think this is HTC issue, because when using clean Android or CM 10.1 all photos are high res.
With the app suggested, it all works until I make hard reset or flash a new rom!
Hi does anyone know where the photo setting that I can set?
Cause I wanna the photos are shown in descending order instead of the newer ones below.

Haha good question....the photo gallery is sorting and displaying in a strange way....newest on the bottom and u have to scroll up to see older ones.
Any other app even messaging ones display newest on the top so the phone gallery app is pretty annoying.
Yeap hope OPPO can let us set it in our preferred way, it annoying when you got a lot of photos on top but need to scroll all the way down to see the new shot that we make.
