Ok, you should use the search tool in the forums. The only safe way, so far is to flash a custom kernel in Odin PC and then use the Triangle away app to reset the counter and yellow triangle.
Just find a kernel that has the MMC_ERASE_CAP disabled (speedmod or notecore) and flash choosing PDA in ODIN....make sure that repartition IS NOT enabled...
Get the Kernels Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072
If you are not sure follow Dr. Ketan's guides that rule....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
Don't try to use the CWM.zip file that was used in the past...IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO BE DANGEROUS....:good:

The above is great, just a couple of notes
1) .tar files are for flashing with odin. NEVER check the 'repartition' box while flashing. Zip files come in two flavors. You might have either downloaded a zipped .tar file (which I have seen) or a CWM-flashable zip. If your zip file is not flashing through CWM (bad file error), check to make sure it isn't an odin .tar within a zip container.
2) Triangle Away is free for xda members. CF gives a link in the market description for the app. Support the devs though- I bought mobile odin pro, so I dl'ed the free Triangle away...
3) Mobile Odin Pro was the key step in me somehow getting full root in ICS, as the normal Dr. Ketan methods did not work for me. I flashed stock ICS with Notecore12 kernel, everoot enabled and I ended up with no SU application or busybox, and lots of FCs. But once I flashed my custom ROM (kingdroid ICS) through CWM, I was fully rooted.
4) Not all root methods will work for everyone. I was unable to get full root just by 'flashing pre-rooted kernel and using triangle away'. I was also unable to get root by just flashing up from pre-rooted GB stock. YMMV
5) Dr.Ketan is the man and he does actively post to help folks with root on his thread
But please read first many, many times. It's one thing to ask questions in Q/A which you did not search answers for (already bad), but if you at least read through the threads a few times you will get much more constructive help if you need it in the rooting thread in the dev section.
Btw. Never post rooting questions anywhere else in the dev section besides Dr.Ketan's thread. Just saying...
If you do post anything, make sure you explain what you have tried already, what the symptoms of it not working are, and what else you have tried.

Thanks to all of you guys, and yes i made search but i got lost and afraid from losing my note
and i couldn't be able to post any reply on Dev. sector to ask about anything.
Thanks again .. i will try to flash a Kernel and then try 'Triangle Away'
But Which Kernel should i use?
There are differences between them?

Try to get s feel about the kernel that you want to use the two very interesting kernels that I have used are speed mod and note core. You can also read the post from users who have used them to get some feedback.

Root 2.3.6 (LA1 Kernel)

Hey guys I recently posted a question about this on the general forums but let me explain why I repost it here.
So basically I wanna root my phone so I can use chainfire3d or some app similarly named but you have to be rooted to use it. So previously I was on a kernel KL3 which one of the expert people told me that KL3 can't be rooted or rather have issues rooting so I kinda gave up rooting but.... anyways I recently got a kernel update to LA1, I'm still on 2.3.6 but this time with a different kernel. So I was hoping atleast I might be able to root this kernel but I don't know how, I recently tried using unlockroot software but it gave me a 'failed to get shell foot's which in the website's FAQ said they cannot help imwith that error. So I was wandering if anyone can help me with rooting my phone on a LA1 kernel and please do privies detailed instructions and links if possible as I'm still new to this 'android scene' and I don't want to brick my phone. Also I'm not fond of the idea to downgrade my phone to 2.3.5 just so I can root, I rather wait for 4.0 update then hopefully when a root for ICas arrives then ill root it.
How I wish rooting is as simple as jailbreaking for my iPod
Composed on my Samsung Galaxy Note using XDA Premium app
You cant root LA1 too directly.
Read this post

Well that's a bummer, can I ask why haven't people created a software to root LA1 kernel as I hear its fast for android phones to get root as they are open sorce software.
Anyways correct me if I'm wrong but if i wanted to root I have to wait for the ICS software then root afterwards or I will not be able to root ever?

I cant see this cud be happen so early, better to get old version, Root it. then update to LA4 or any new version with keeping excisting root intact, as i have mentioned above. whether this method will work with ICS or not, is also difficult to say right now.
im going through the same predicament...
Galaxy note LA1 Firmware.
So now my options are ?
1. Downgrade to 2.3.5 ? and r00t and then get back to the latest firmware while keeping r00t
2. Wait for ICS ?
3. Load a Custom Rom like Rocket Rom ?
What are the issues with loading a custom rom? i will get r00t automatically right ? but the Flash counter ?
1. that is the choice shud be.
2. No guarranty ICS will have direct root.
3.Without root How you can install custome ROM? it certainly raise counter, if flash with PC odin
Doc ketan : Thanx for your prompt reply
LA1 is working fine in the non-r00ted avatar on my phone, now the Thread >> [20.01.2012][CF-Root 5.0] KJ1/4/6, KK1/9/A, KL1/3/7/8, LA1/3/4 - su+bb+CWM5 << says it can r00t the LA1 firmware.
What do you recommend should i go ahead with CWM??

No it won't Root LA1, it is just for CF Root for LA1, if you are rooted, then you can get LA1 CF Root.
Ok just to let everyone know and those still struggling to get your notes rooted basically do this.
Use pc odin and flash your phone to a lower firmware (don't worry it will go fine if you read the instructions and follow them no yellow triangle and stuff)
I used India KL1 stock rom from samfirware.com (be warned it takes very long to download it if you don't have a premium hotfile account so if your expecting a 5 minute thing then forget it, took me about 3 hors jlto do the entire thing)
Just use the India KL1 even if your note is not from india or use whatever other rom you feel comfortable with, just make sure its rootable
So after flashing your note with Pc version of odin then use unlock22 software to root your phone, which takes about 10 minutes.
Then finally download your firmware you were on or the one you want (in my case was a LA1) and use mobile odin to flash it
The reason why you do this long method to flash is because LA1 kernel is not directly rootable meaning it can be rooted but you MUST use this longer meathod.
At the end of it all my phone is still functioning fabulously like before but only difference is it is more free than before since its rooted and no loss of data.
I wanna thank Dr. Ketan a lot as he was the one who helped me with my long list of questions without getting annoyed so I appreciate it and thank you from the bottom of my heart, so basically Dr. Ketan is the best and just follow the links in his signiture if you want to root your galaxy note.
Once again thank you Dr Ketan (you rock) and this thread's question... is solved!

The point isn't about rooting, it's about being able to do a proper search. If you can't search, you're not going to get your answer.
There are 2 distinct threads that contain the LC1. They are both pre-rooted. One is odexed. The other is deodexed. If you do a search, you will find them both. If you are smart, you will read the entire thread BEFORE you flash the ROM because there are instructions within the thread that tell you the exact steps to do and to avoid so that you don't wipe your data. I know, because I took the time to search for the threads, and read both threads ENTIRELY. I followed the directions and had a pre-rooted LC1 installed in only a few minutes. I didn't loose any data or apps. I was also a Noob to Samsung at the time.
If that sounds too hard for you, then you should leave your Note on the ROM it is on right now and wait for the OTA updates.

Thanks for all the help.
i end upp rooting with Bodivas pre rooted stock LC1..
Now i have 2 more questions wich i yet have no answer for wich are these,
1: If i Only root, and dont install a new kernel ...
Will i be able to make future fota uppdates ? from Samsung..And will the root still remain.
Im fr Sweden with LC1
2: If i Change the kernel to get CWM and get some kind of a Total backup! Since it seems that it cant be done by Titanium?!
Will i still be able to get new stock uppdates by kies? and will the Root still be there?
I was planing to install the kernel you rekomended
CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LC1-v5.3-CWM5.zip
With mobile Odin.
So lets see what happens.. But damn with a rooted phone it feels nice to be able to controll every thing and skipp adss and anoying unwanted startups..
1. Yes, no
2. Yes, no
For future updates, get the update here @ xda and flash with mobile odin which will persist root. Updates show up here as fast as they are released.

Easiest is to download stock rom, root it with just root only method
Best practice backup efs, Google it I will not explain you need do this only once and save backup later to computer.
Backup with titanium pro, and perform backups on kies. All you need to do to keep your info.
No custom kernels and remain ota able, and ultimately when ICS comes you remain upgradeable as it will not come OTA but though Kies
-> hmm, I lost my ability to upgrade thought Kies. Even with stock ROM. So be carefull whichever way you go. You can always upgrade thought a stock firmware ROM, you just might loose upgradability thought Kies. Also note, upgrading throught Kies will remove root in I think all instances.

[Q] How do i install Android 4.0 ICS?

Hi people.
I haven't visited the site in a long time and i just noticed that ICS is out.
So i am trying to figure out how to install it.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance
just forget it for now, there's lots of bug with the rom (leaked rom and official rom)
stay with GB for now
Ok, noted, but i was more wondering about the procedure.
It doesn't look like an easy straightforward procedure.
How would one go about installing ICS?
Once oficial ICS is out in your country for your carrier you simply plug youre Note into PC and use the instal wizard on Kies. It will do it for you nice and simple.
Thank you very much for your swift answers.
If you are on GB stock, just flash this ROM with mobile odin (safer!), check everroot and all (although I still didn't get root), and should be good BUT I say stay away.. It's not good and not radically different from GB.. If you flash anyway, STAY AWAY FROM LPY KERNEL.
If you're on any custom ROM, downgrade to stock GB and follow the procedure..
BUT DON'T FLASH IT.. I flashed it twice and luckily enough, I could come back to GB but you might not..

Okay, i have only 1000000 questions!
What does "flash" mean exactly? In my mind it sounds like changing firmware, am i close?
what does mobile odin do?
Is LPY kernel and LPY firmware the same thing?(as in because they are indivisible)
Why stay away from LPY kernel?
I have never tampered with my note since i bought it, i find no reason to since my phone covers all my needs, and thus i didn't familiarize myself with the terms or the procedures. For all intents and purposes you should explain it to me as if i was a 5 year old!
I understand that most probably you won't really take the time to explain these things to me, so i could use a central platform that can provide the answers to these questions in a straightforward manner without having to lurk here on the forums for a 1000 years.
Please if you know of such a place provide me with a link.
Here is a centralized link, it's been my best friend in getting answers:
Forum Search
Edit: If you have not messed with your phone, why would you even consider doing it with a rom that could potentially brick your device completely. If the juice isn't worth the squeeze, don't even attempt. If you want to learn, root with a GB rom, and for that follow Dr. Ketans thread, very easy to follow with pictures, and although you said explain it like I would to a 5 year old, I apologize in advance that the pictures aren't popup

Should answer most of your questions..
Anyways, yeah flashing means changing firmware but it could also refer to a kernel (read through the link) or anything really, even a theme.
Odin is a program used to flash various firmwares, kernels, etc for samsung devices. There's PC Odin and then there's mobile odin. Mobile Odin can be used to 'flash' just about anything, be it a stock ROM or kernel or a custom ROM.. By using mobile odin you don't get the yellow triangle too.. Which is used by samsung to detect whether the phone has been messed up with or not.. It's pretty easy to get one but it's easier not to get one if you know what you are doing.. Just read the thread above and your most questions will be answered.. Read the wiki on GN note too..

And I would suggest you to first get a hold of changing ROMs before jumping to ICS. There are various GB custom ROMs available. Try flashing them..

How to change font

hi guys !
Bit new to SGN world. Have stock android 2.3.6 Not rooted yet. I changed the font sometime back but forgot how. i want to change it again . Is it in the general settings ?
If you are going to root the phone you also could use an app like fontchanger. Don't have a working Note at the moment (bricked ) i also know there is a setting that changes the font and fontsize in some apps like mail, s calendar etc.

Why do you need those outdated roms???See this, download latest rom,use the instruction there to flash it.
Then download mobile odin and the respective cf-root kernel and flash the kernel using mobile odin.
Is it ok if I go for this file please ?
Rooted_Stock_Odex_N7000DDLB2.rar | 492.5 MB
It doesnt match my KL3

Dont worry when you flash that rom, your kernel is updated automatically. After flashing that rom flash CF-root LB2 kernel through mobile odin to get CWM
Why when I go to use fontchanger does it keep asking for superuser permissions?

Because the app needs root access. And the root access is gained by hacking the kernel. So the difference between the stock kernel and custom kernel is,Stock kernel has no root access since its not hacked and custom kernel is hacked. So the kernel included in the rom you downloaded is hacked which gives root access.

Thanks Vijai. I just went through both videos of cursedforeva.
Thanks for helping me get the bigger picture.
Actually I was relying on Dr Ketans guide from the Dev forum (sticky post). I even expressed my doubt there first....
thanks again

Help with rooting Stock 2.3.6

Hi all, just wondering if anybody is feeling helpfull and explaing the easiest rooting method for my galaxy note.
I have an unlocked note on 2.3.6 latest gingerbread.
Total noob with android and finding it a little confusing after coming from apple. I jailbroke my i4 but this is alot different no click and done lol.
My main reason is so i can perform full backups including app data, and also installing a few apps like airplayit.
Been having a read but my head is swiming.

Hi mate. I was in the same boat as you.
Even after being into rooting my Androids since the G1 days.
This is my first Samsung.
Anyway. Follow the "how to root with cwm and everything in one place thread"....or something like that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I see they've moved the non rootable roms to post 4.
It depends which version you have add to what you need to do.
Download Odin and flash a completely stock GB rom as the one I had LA6 I think was unrootable .
Then I just flashed paranoid Android loved it ever since.
Follow the instructions on that thread and you should be fine.
Doing that though ill loose everything?, spent weeks setting up

Hi,
I would read, read, read & read more if you have a head that is swimming with all the information.
Read this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702214
among hundreds of others.
I managed to kill one of my notes & didn't consider myself a noob but the brick bug got me.
Yes when you install new roms there is a lot of setting up to re-do hence backups are important & time time saving BUT read about the brick/eMMC erase problem and hold out until the situation has been resolved, otherwise all you will have is a very expensive paper weight.
Yeah ill hang on. Not desperate to get it done and also dont have the time.

if you want your GB rooted, just flash a non-wipe pre-rooted ROM from bodivas thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
I did the same and worked for me
What i did was flashed speedmod kernel k2-12.tar through odin and my rom was rooted with cwm and from there i flashed abyss 4.2. By doing this i got yellow triangle which i got rid of by installing ics rom and triangle away app
what does non wipe mean?
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
Means it will install on top of your current rom without resetting all youre data and apps.
please hit thanks if i helped
ok so your saying i can flash a prerooted rom of the same type, over my current and hopefully end up with no setting up?
