Hi guys, i am new to all this!
I really want to root my phone but i dont understand any of the step by step guides i have found.
Can anyone simplify things for me and tell wat i have to download to be able to do it?
Easiest is to root a JW4 ROM. Flash it to your phone using Odin and flash the CF-Root 4.4.
Search for the files above.

Hi,
Recently i have just switched from IPhone to Galaxy Note, while really need some advise on get it "rooted" and flash with ICS (Since many people feed back its eventually better" perhaps someone can guide me a proper way of backing up my system as well as flashing it?
my phone details as below:-
Model - GT-N7000
Android Version - 2.3.6
Baseband - N7000DXKL2
Kernel Version - 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA1(I suppose this should be KJ1? but on my phone it shows this...)
Build number - GINGERBREAD.XXLA1
in such situation should i proceed to get it flash with the KJ1 method?
yes your ROM is newer, so you have to downgrade it.
You can downgrade to KJ1 pre rooted ROM, download link you may find on 4th line on my signature.

So in summary all i need to do is to downgrade my ROM to KJ1, follow the guide to root it, then only flash it to ICS?
by doing all these will it void the warranty of the phone?
Forget about ICS for right now..I would consider it advanced to install and for beginners I would stick to rooted GB builds until you got more familar with the phone and flashing etc..

Yes, Get Root + CWM
To install ICS, follow installation guide available with ICS ROM you want to install
Somwat agree with MrDSL, at least you shud read a lot before installing ICS.
Warranty can be regain by Reflashing Stock ROM.
Yup, indeed doing more research before i proceed to flash my SGN, sincerely thank you for all the advise and guidance though.
Rooting is pretty clear to you now I think.
As for flashing ICS ROMs, I don't actually agree with anyone above. I have earlier flashed TeamRocket's ICS ROM, Imilka's AOSP ROM and ICS Stunner on my note. ICS Stunner is actually one of the best you could have for ICS. (Almost everything works, or rather everything actually works ). Now I am using Imilka's CM9 port from SGS2, very very smooth, stable and most of the things work. Download and install instructions are pretty clear in their respective threads. I would actually suggest you to go ahead with ICS ROMs (ICS Stunner or CM9 especially)!
PM me if you need any help!

Hello,
My Galaxy Note is unrooted and running a stock GB ROM:
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version: N7000UBKK1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-N7000UBKK3-CL702304
Build number: GINGERBREAD.UBKK3
I'd like to root my device and also flash an ICS ROM (ICS StuNNeR). I've been reading a lot of tutorials here, but I'm still confused about which method is best for me.
My current ROM doesn't seem to be "directly rootable". Do I really have to downgrade it first? Is it necessary to root the GB ROM before flashing the ICS ROM?
Should I follow the guide Another Way to Successfully Flash AOSP/AOKP/CM9 ICS Roms from Gingerbread? But do I have to root the GB ROM first?
I'd also like to backup my current ROM, but I haven't found instructions on how to do that.
Thanks a lot,
Tiago

This might help. If not look at the stickies in the android development section and go through all relevant posts there. For flashing a rom from gb to ics I suggest u wait until OTA update and then flash roms cause many notes have been bricked due to the leaked kernel. If u want to still flash an ics rom then follow the guide provided by the dev.and yes u have to root ur phone before u flash a rom.

Can someone please guide me so i dont mess my phone up?
Also where can i find the original firmware incase i need to reflash for warranty?
I also read that i need to backup my iemi but am unsure how i do this?

You can download the firmwares via sammobile or via Samsung kies

I would advise doing this first...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1946915
Then root via this method =) (there are known problems with the 6.XXX touch recovery)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914394
You now have root!
Then if you want the latest version straight from Samsung (4.1.2) flash this through CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066767
Hope that helps =)
I was thinking of using the toolbox and hoping it was an all in one application.
Im really really new to Android.
Autoroot with stock recovery and mobile odin works best for me. I'm a noob too. Have flashed perseus kernal and pandoriams latest 4.1.2 and works great

Hey
Need to root my galaxy s but dont know how!
I was trying to download superoneclick but everytime i download it the download never finishes or is corrupt
Model Number:GT-I9000
Firmware Version:2.1-update1
Baseband Version:I9000XXJM1
Kernel Version:[email protected] #2
Build Number:ECLAIR.I9000XXJM1
Is there any tutorial out there for rooting the galaxy s?
Cheers
Hey,
Rooting can seem like a hard thing, and don't worry, the first time I had trouble as well :L
Have you tried z4root? Its a neat little apk that supposedly roots any phone on 2.1. Thing is though I don't know whether it works for XXJM1 or not.
Alternatively what you can do is upgrade to Gingerbread and root. And I think that'd be the best thing to do.
1.) Upgrade to XXJW4 (2.3.6) by means of Odin. If you don't know what I mean, feel free to ask.
2.) Search around these forums for a thread about CF-Root. Read Chainfire's instructions carefully and select the right file- if you don't know which one I'll find it for you. The file should have JW4 in it though, so that hopefully is easy enough to find...
3.) Unzip the file. In it you'll find a .tar file. Using Odin again flash this .tar file in. Again, if you need help, feel free to ask
And there you go! Rooted, on 2.3.6.
I'm not quite sure how to root the I9000 on Eclair, so that's the only advice I can give....
Hope I helped though

Hey,
Are you talking about which 4.1+ rom you should use?
Quite obviously there's CM10 and CM10.1. Take your pick of 4.1.2 vs. 4.2.1.
Well many people recommend Slim Bean http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780071 because its very small (only 60MB or something like that), very fast and stable.
Apparently Mackay Rom is really good as well.
If you want the feel of Touchwiz and the SIII, C-Rom Bean and C-Rom Bean Mix are available in 4.1.2 and 4.2.1 for each. Again, your pick. A lot of people report this to be very stable as well.
There's tons more roms for the lovely I9000 so you'll have to do some searching around for one that you'll like. But those seem to be the top Jelly Bean roms around...

Ok, many thanx for the info
Going to do the C-RoM Mix 4.2.1 v2.zip 186808KB that came out today
Found the installation guide on androidauthority.com, guess that guide will be here on this forum somewhere but i just googled and came out there
How long does it takes for flashing is ready, used C-RoM Mix 4.2.1 V2, screen is showing for 20 minutes logo "Semaphore" , is that normal ...
edit: my pc reconizes the phone as Android ....
edit 2: did flash c-rom mix again and BINGO, works
got no imei anymore, messed around with different ways to get it back, it's all gone, no back up nothing, just a working phone but cant call
what to do ....
:victory:  yessss, rooted back to 2.3.6 and its all working again -> thanks for [HowTo] Officiele XWJW5 (2.3.6) via Odin (NL/BE) from GirlKillu from androidworld
now I wil flash it to latest slim bean version, this time I will make it 100% sure to back up efs folder

but had some really bad difficulty's and ended up with a bootlooping phone what whas really hard to fix (more luck than knowledge)
Some how i managed to go back to custom and its running on :
Firmware
2.3.6
Baseband
I9000XXJW4
Kernal
2.6.35.7-I9000XXJW4-CL1043937
[email protected]#2
Buildnumber
GINGERBREAD.BOJW6
ClockWorkMod v3.0.0.5
AND IT IS ROOTED
so i know i have to upgrade my CWM but this messed up my phone the first try.
So need some advice and direct links to versions i need to download for my type op phone and kernal.
Thank you.
First decide which type of ROM you want to flash. Since there are many custom ROMs supported for your device. So do some searching and decide.
My advice is to stay with a stable ROM with least or no bugs.
After you have done this you can flash the ROM with either odin or directly by applying update from sd card during recovery.

And yes i know there are many kinds of custom roms! how ever many roms required CWM 5 or 6
And thats where the problems are starting.
I'm interested in CyanogenMod 10.1 or Slimbean
Follow the steps given in the following link for flashing cyanogen 10.1
A detailed procedure is explained here.
