[Q] Root galaxy s I9000 - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey
Need to root my galaxy s but dont know how!
I was trying to download superoneclick but everytime i download it the download never finishes or is corrupt
Model Number:GT-I9000
Firmware Version:2.1-update1
Baseband Version:I9000XXJM1
Kernel Version:[email protected] #2
Build Number:ECLAIR.I9000XXJM1
Is there any tutorial out there for rooting the galaxy s?
Cheers

Hey,
Rooting can seem like a hard thing, and don't worry, the first time I had trouble as well :L
Have you tried z4root? Its a neat little apk that supposedly roots any phone on 2.1. Thing is though I don't know whether it works for XXJM1 or not.
Alternatively what you can do is upgrade to Gingerbread and root. And I think that'd be the best thing to do.
1.) Upgrade to XXJW4 (2.3.6) by means of Odin. If you don't know what I mean, feel free to ask.
2.) Search around these forums for a thread about CF-Root. Read Chainfire's instructions carefully and select the right file- if you don't know which one I'll find it for you. The file should have JW4 in it though, so that hopefully is easy enough to find...
3.) Unzip the file. In it you'll find a .tar file. Using Odin again flash this .tar file in. Again, if you need help, feel free to ask
And there you go! Rooted, on 2.3.6.
I'm not quite sure how to root the I9000 on Eclair, so that's the only advice I can give....
Hope I helped though

Hey,
Are you talking about which 4.1+ rom you should use?
Quite obviously there's CM10 and CM10.1. Take your pick of 4.1.2 vs. 4.2.1.
Well many people recommend Slim Bean http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780071 because its very small (only 60MB or something like that), very fast and stable.
Apparently Mackay Rom is really good as well.
If you want the feel of Touchwiz and the SIII, C-Rom Bean and C-Rom Bean Mix are available in 4.1.2 and 4.2.1 for each. Again, your pick. A lot of people report this to be very stable as well.
There's tons more roms for the lovely I9000 so you'll have to do some searching around for one that you'll like. But those seem to be the top Jelly Bean roms around...

Ok, many thanx for the info
Going to do the C-RoM Mix 4.2.1 v2.zip 186808KB that came out today
Found the installation guide on androidauthority.com, guess that guide will be here on this forum somewhere but i just googled and came out there

How long does it takes for flashing is ready, used C-RoM Mix 4.2.1 V2, screen is showing for 20 minutes logo "Semaphore" , is that normal ...
edit: my pc reconizes the phone as Android ....
edit 2: did flash c-rom mix again and BINGO, works

got no imei anymore, messed around with different ways to get it back, it's all gone, no back up nothing, just a working phone but cant call
what to do ....

:victory:  yessss, rooted back to 2.3.6 and its all working again -> thanks for [HowTo] Officiele XWJW5 (2.3.6) via Odin (NL/BE) from GirlKillu from androidworld
now I wil flash it to latest slim bean version, this time I will make it 100% sure to back up efs folder

Help flashing i9000 coming from a captivate

Hey all, in a bit of a time crunch. I have a friend coming over tonight with an i9000 and I'm going to help him flash a custom rom as he's disliking stock 2.x
I have just about every tool/rom/kernel/odin package/etc. imaginable downloaded for the captivate but I need to know what I can use on the i9000.
Here is what I need from you guys...
- A link to GB bootloaders (odin flashable) for the i9000
- A recommendation for a good clean & stable 2.3 ROM (he won't want 4.0 just yet)
- A link to an odin flashable kernel with the latest CWM
- i9000 windows drivers unless the captivate ones I already installed will work
I know the captivate and i9000 are super similar but I'm pretty sure you cant flash an i9000 with captivate ROM's even if they are i9000 based. The only thing I'm actually concerned about is flashing the proper bootloaders. After that its smooth sailing.
Thanks all in advance!
hey man,
the best way to do this is to flash the leaked jvu through odin found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431596
You can find odin and 512 pit file for i9000 at www.samfirmware.com you can also find device drivers there too.
the leaked jvu is a pretty good rom for your friend, and from there you can flash any rom found in the i9000 development section.
Man try this link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102881 and

Rooting my device

Hi guys, i am new to all this!
I really want to root my phone but i dont understand any of the step by step guides i have found.
Can anyone simplify things for me and tell wat i have to download to be able to do it?
Easiest is to root a JW4 ROM. Flash it to your phone using Odin and flash the CF-Root 4.4.
Search for the files above.

Use one of the tutorials that kind folks have written for people like yourself.
And back up your efs folder before you start flashing ROMs if you like to use your phone to make calls and send texts, and go on the internet lol

You downloaded one file ROM, try to find full 3 file rom. If you're coming from 2.2 - i'd suggest using 3 file roms with re-partition ticked.
Please suggest good ICS ROM for Galay S i9000 for daily use.
The ROM should be stable, lag free, good battery for daily use.
and no problem in wifi Please help me & give ICS or Jelly Bean ROM download link.
PDA: I9000XWJVZ

[Q] Files for CWM ect.

I posted here because the "General" forum isn't that visited.
I tried finding the files needed to Install CWM for my Samsung Galaxy S gt i9000 2.2 Froyo,
but the files needed to put in Odin are missing or have been deleted from the web-hosting services.
Can anyone provide me with the needed links and a detailed guide on how to do it?
Many thanks in advance, jvukosav.
If you'll settle for 2.3.6 or want to go to ICS 4.0.4 (CM9), here is a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1852546&highlight=jw4
If you want CM10 (4.1.2) after you have CM9 it's: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778526
First you should backup EFS, verify download mode, recovery mode, just to be prepared for possible hiccups.

wow yeah you are digging for some really old files. You can try the speedmod kernel for Froyo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756&highlight=speedmod
Though it probably has more feature than what you are looking for. Beware of the lagfix though. I don't think universal lag fix is automatically activated, but just to be sure check the settings in recovery mode.
The chainfire kernel download links are still active, and I think they might be closer in nature to what you want (a stock kernel with CWM features)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
I have never used chainfire kernels, but they are meant to be the base of most other custom kernel before cyanogenmod was ported over to I9000.

but had some really bad difficulty's and ended up with a bootlooping phone what whas really hard to fix (more luck than knowledge)
Some how i managed to go back to custom and its running on :
Firmware
2.3.6
Baseband
I9000XXJW4
Kernal
2.6.35.7-I9000XXJW4-CL1043937
[email protected]#2
Buildnumber
GINGERBREAD.BOJW6
ClockWorkMod v3.0.0.5
AND IT IS ROOTED
so i know i have to upgrade my CWM but this messed up my phone the first try.
So need some advice and direct links to versions i need to download for my type op phone and kernal.
Thank you.
First decide which type of ROM you want to flash. Since there are many custom ROMs supported for your device. So do some searching and decide.
My advice is to stay with a stable ROM with least or no bugs.
After you have done this you can flash the ROM with either odin or directly by applying update from sd card during recovery.

And thats where the problems are starting.
I'm interested in CyanogenMod 10.1 or Slimbean
Follow the steps given in the following link for flashing cyanogen 10.1
A detailed procedure is explained here.
