Hi everyone,
Newbie posting here.. I've had my share of flashing Roms a few times (say 4 or 5 times) but i stuck with cm 7.2 when they released the stable mod for the i9000.
Now i see that the cm9 stable mod has been released and i definitely want to try that out however, I'm not sure on how to go about it and I don't want to do anything stupid. Don't get me wrong, i've tried reading around through different sites and forums but all the mix and match methods of flashing and installing has gotten me confused..
My main question is, how do i flash to cm9 from cm 7.2? naturally i have cwm installed and can boot into cwm recovery. Am on the XXJVK baseband with the pawitp kernel. Not sure if i have to donwload new drivers (since the base ROM is going to change)...
Do i just place the zip file for the cm9 mod in the internal sd storage? could you guys help me out and let me know if this process is correct:
1) save zip file in internal storage (both cm9 and gapps)
2) do a nandroid backup
3) boot into recovery
4) wipe data and dalvik cache
5) install the package
6) wipe data and dalvik cache
7) install gapps
8) reboot
Once it boots up, i'm assuming it'll be running cm9 already.. could you guys help me out and let me know if this procedure's correct? sorry for the noob question but i'd rather just make sure and ask you guys first.
thanks in advance guys! cheers and more power!

wipe date
wipe cache
wipe delvik cache
then flash rom nd gapps
wipe cache nd delvik cache again.. good luck..
Best and most reliable way to do this is flashing through stock rom via Odin. Then flashing kernel with CWM Recovery via Odin. And only then flash CM9 via CWM.
thanks for the quick reply guys. will try it out tonight and update this post. hope all goes well.
cheers!

and if u want u can try chimera rom from team passion.. it s combination of cm9 and AOKP.. It s stable and fast..
took me less than 10 minutes to flash to cm9 and it's as snappy as i thought it was. now to fix up everything and check if everything's okay.
so far, wifi and network signal are working fine and dandy. might just have a go at that chimera rom.

Hello guys!
I was wondering how should I go about flashing another ICS Rom. I am already on AOKP build 23. If I want to flash another rom do I just wipe data, cache and dalvik cache and install from SD card?
Also, to change a kernel do I just install from SD card?
Many thanks!!
its no difficult man
Just reading. No so difficult like he said.
erm, so is what i said correct?
Factory reset (which is the same as wipe) -> install from SD. Done.
Yes, you got it right. Also follow instruction for the specific rom you want to use.
If there are problems flash to stock with odin + repartition.
Restore and flash
I tried to flash slim rom from sharing rc 4.2.but failed to pass the kernel screen. Don't know what went wrong
I have been searching around and can't find out how exactly I should go about flashing a custom ROM on the Hero. Yes, before anyone says it, I am a noob at this, and this will be my first time flashing a ROM(if i could ever figure it out). I have the latest stable version of CyanogenMod 7, which i believe is 7.1.0, and the GApps package to go along with it. Both are on the root of my SD card. I rooted with Z4root, downloaded ROM Manager, and chose the setting to flash Clockwork Mod Recovery. Should I flash using ROM Manager, or should I boot into CWM Recovery and flash from there? If possible, does anyone have a video that could help me along with this? The video posted in the video thread for this device is down. Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks!
Boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery and flash from there.
BTW, I'm running the latest release candidate for 7.2. Works perfectly for me.
I ended up finding a video on how to flash through CWM. I also later downloaded one of the CM 7.2 RCs, believe RC2. Now my next question is, do I need to wipe data, cache, and dalvik cache if I update to a newer version of CM, like a newer RC of 7.2 or one of the early beta versions of CM9?
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA
Wipe cache etc. when flashing a later version of CM7 over an earlier version. Do a wipe data/factory reset when flashing CM7 over CM9.
It has always been a safe route whenever you flash a new rom to just wipe data, wipe cache, and wipe dalvik.
Yes.

Hello, I am new on forum and just discovered about setting new ROMs on my cellphone (its a Galaxy Ace S5830), then I instantly installed CM9 ICS, but now I wanted to install this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583871...
The question is:
Can I install an lower ROM version? What I need to do?
I use the CWM 5.0 and when I try to format everything (cache/data/system/sd-ext), it gives an error on "sd-ext", then anyway I reboot the system and start on CWM 5.0 again, and click on "install update from sdcard" and select the ROM in zip mode of course, then it gives and "Installation aborted"...
for safety I don't want to try other things without consult other people's experience and as I am with my computer on the maintenance I don't have much time for running around searchings about this...
Thank you if you can help...
Cya;
err, may be you should mount data and system before flashing the zip..
Go back to stock rom with odin then try to reflash again using cwm but only wiping, data + cache + dalvik cache
Sent from my GALAXY Ace.
I don't think you need to go back to stock for flashing cm7 over cm9,you are already on ext file system, just do a complete wipe(leave sd-ext if you don't have an ext partition on your sd card), also wipe cache and dalvik cache, then mount data and system and flash the cm7 rom.
That should do the job. Although don't act on my comment yet, wait for a senior member to approve of my statement here, i am a noob too.
P.S. Go for Apocalypse rom, both miracle and apocalypse are made by itasoulas but apocalypse is very new and very awesome rom.

I dont need to put stock rom, the hard is that the links all are on mediafire and I cant download it in the university(the only place I have internet acess by now...)...

Hi, I'm wondering if I'm doinbg something wrong but I can't install the new Devil kernel version on latest Helly Bean nightly with 1.1.2 Devil Kernel Installed. I downloaded the file 3 times so it's most probably not a corrupted file problem. And the first time I installed it gave me major problems and had to revert back to gb, couldn't install HB from there because of status 7 errors wich only stopped when i did a GB-ICS-HB install. I tried to revert to 1.1.2 now but phone is stuck on HB bootscreen so I think I'll have to Odin GB again and then ICS and HB+1.1.2 but I like to have latest rom versions and kernel. Does anyone see where I fail in my installation? BTW I always wipe cache and Dalvik cache between any new zip installation, just in case....
Thanks in advance for any help and I have to say alot of thanks already for all infos on this forum because I went from noob to not so noob in a matter of days by reading all your usefull threads! :good:

Changing from one to another can be tricky, sometimes you need to flash TWICE
But First Backup your EFS folder from GB stock to SD card, do the complete wipes than flash, If it loops, flash again

Since you are on Hydracore it is safe to wipe. But just to be sure just take a nandroid backup, by Booting in to recovery
Selecet Backup & restore--> Select Backup & do a nandroid backup Then just follow the installation procedure below
Keep both the ROM & Gapps file on your SD card
Wipe data / factory reset
Wipe Cache Partition
Go to Advanced - > Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Install Zip from SD Card--> Select either internal card or SD card (external sd ) based on where you kept the file-->Install the zip file of the ROM
Same way Select & install the Gapps package
Go Back & wipe Cache Partion & Dalvik Cache once again
Reboot & you are Paranoid...:good:
the best advice I can just offer you is to go to the respective Paranoid Android ROM thread and post this question there. There many people there as well willing to help you. Or you can wait for someone who has PA already on their device and perhaps they can give you some nice info on how to go about installing PA on your phone.
sorry, I can't do much help on you as I'm not using JB for now.
You can flash any custom rom if you are on safe kernel, hydracore is safe and you can simply boot into cwm recovery and flash the rom zip followed by gapps.
Help i am stuck on the PA logo

Yes you need to factory reset when coming from another rom that is not aosp based, i.e stock gb/ics.

I think you need to read instructions to the point before carrying them out. I had posted you the method for installation of PA which so far as I know is the correct one coming from any non AOSP based ROM. Pls. do follow the instructions. In case you are in doubt just ask for a reconfirmation.
Also any ROM developer will have the instructions posted in the OP thread, which you should definitely follow.
As others have told you, do a full wipe coming from a non AOSP based ROM..
By the Way if your problem is solved just change the OP title to Solved..
In regards to doing a full wipe: When doing the same process a couple of weeks back, coming from a stock ICS rom to PA i read you need to do a full wipe.
google brought me to this page: http://checkrom.com/threads/full-wipe-the-correct-way.432/
do you guys consider wipe/factory reset to be sufficient or is it a good idea to do this manual format of the /system/ /data/ and /cache/ partitions as per the above guide?
I was in a bit of doubt on that one at the time, so i did it anyway to be on the safe side and it all worked fine.
Paranoid android
Hey
Someone can tell me what's the difference between the Paranoid rom from Imilka (PARANOIDANDROID 2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797698) and the Paranoid rom from Utacka (PARANOIDANDROID 2.15 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871713)????
To be sure
OK, just to be sure I want to make everything straight... So if a have Hydracore kernel and a non-AOSP rom (for example ClassicRom V5) I can flash ParanoidAndroid? Even without AOSP rom? Just having Hydracore kernel and non-AOSP rom I can install ParanoidAndroid safely? I just have to do a Full wipe, then flash paranoid, flash Gapps, wipe cache and dalvik and reboot and thats it? Thanks in advance for the answer
