kernel version is not equal to android version.
android 2.3 (gingerbread) from google is using 2.6.35 kernel version. but we can use 2.6.32 or 2.6.37 or other version.
so we can't say linux kernel 2.6.32 = android 2.2 (froyo)

Thats right, we have Android 2.2/2.3 running 2.6.29, and there native kernels are .32 (Froyo) and .35 (Gingerbread)

If the kernel is ported correly does that mean gingerbread Tom's would be Easter to port and have less problems?

You should search on XDAuniversity for a guide, or google it

Kernel

Im wondering why all the Android kernels are so old? For example: ive the newest Rom for the ace (thanks to wayland) but it just has a 2.6.y kernel. Even backtrack, blackbuntu or ue have old kernels (3.2.y-3.5.y) . So my question is : why does no one use the 3.7.y or 3.8 kernel ?

Wine tastes better the longer you keep it. Many of the kernels are unique in their own sense as well as stable. That's why we still use them !

Our Ace has some hardware limitations and it is very difficult task to port 3.x kernel in our ace.

thanks so would it be possible to get kernel 3.8 rc2 to my backtrack?? cause wlan and eth drivers are not working for my lenovo ideapad y580 in the official kernel

Both were released today so its impossible to tell which one is better. Get Frapeti app and test both

Frankly I prefer CoCore-E 3.3 for performance.
But you can check both by universal kernel flasher and use as per your requirement.

Download universal kernel flasher tool from xda and download any kernel you want to install.
Just select kernel flasher and press flash.
It will take only 5-10 seconds to flash.
Read tutorials before flashing.

Im using Cocore-E 2.8 with chucky v6 rom and so far its the best combo ive used since upgrading to JB

I use cocore 2.9 nightly. Best balance battery and performance.
Testet cocore3.3 for two hours. 10% battery drain.
But this was my configuration. Feel free to test your own way.

Try them both and then decide.. There's no person that knows what you want better then yourself Besides, it aint going to hurt you
My PERSONAL preference goes to Cocore 3.3
Until next version of Siri Kernel comes out, i wanna really try it Then i'll see

I still didn't try CoCore E 3.3... I'm using ThunderZap 4.1 only because of TWRP
I will now give CoCore E 3.3 a try... as u people are telling that it results in much better performance!

I dont know... I have experienced some lags on temple run 2 only after flashing cocore e 3.3.... this never happened on version 2.8...

Same here, with 2.8 never had lags, with 3.3 i've already had some, and some freezes (playing a video on mx player, it lagged so bad that i had to take the battery out to reboot the phone)

CoCore 3.3 rulez. Tried all kernels, cocore is the best (Original Jelly Bean ROM)

I prefer cocore 3.3 (now testing 3.9)
i have been using thunderzep since 2.5 but it suffers much lag after some days of use (sometimes phone doesn't answered for minutes...) but now with cocore everything cool

Sorry i just could not help it...

i am currently using cm9.2 by erikcas with no mods to scripts.i think that ics roms like cm9.2 or aosp and gb roms like stock-based or cm7 are best for mini since they are faster and smooth then cm10.1.

I use my custom build Mint OS (based on CM10 and CM10.1), no mods, no script + Badass Kernel.
My favourite ROM of all time is emanoN, the ROM saves my Mini from bootloops, soft brick and it's my first custom rom !

Which Kernel is the best for KitKat?

Hello. I tested many Roms and Kernels and i cant choose one. I'm using Cm11 but i think its kernel is slow. Semaphore? Mackay? CyanoCore? Meybe any other? Which Kernel you preffer?

I prefer Semaphore. Good kernel with many options, bigmem etc. CM 11 work fast on it.

I've used Mackay since... Well, a long time. The reason I prefer it over Semaphore is its capability to send MMS. I can't send them with Sema, though a good kernel it is otherwise.

Download the 0.607 mackay kernel version from here:

It is compatible with all roms based on cm :laugh:

I recommend u Mackay Kernel 0.607 works best on CM11
