I am planning to use my Nexus 7 as navigation. So my idea was to connect it to my phone for tethering but I still need to mount the laptop somewhere.
Does anybody know a bike mount for the Nexus 7? I found this: http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/360444409938?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&cbt=y. It is for the Samsung Galaxy 7.0 Plus. The cost is about 45 pounds but I am not sure if the Nexus 7 is going to fit.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Might see if you can get a hold of the MFG to see what they currently make that might fit.
They apparently make a lot of different mounts, but I didn't see a contact number for them in the very short time I looked.

That's just nuts, really. Your face is 2 feet from the handlebars, why would you need a 7" tablet there?
Getting a sturdy, waterproof, wreckproof case for a smaller Android phone was a challenge for me, and that was just fitting a Nexus One..
Try using your nexus outside first
I don't want to rain on your parade, but try using your nexus 7 outside in the sun first before getting the mounts. Even on the maximum brightness, the screen is a bit hard to see under full sunlight. I'd have a hard time reading the nexus 7 screen on my bike when it was sunny out.
Wouldn't get any of those since they don't protect from... anything.
I saw some full protections on ebay for SGS II (water and shocks mostly), you should check if they do it for nexus 7 too.
I would feel safer putting my phone on my bike rather than my tablet. Let us know what you found !
I cycle close to 50 miles a week and I would never want to mount my nexus on any of my bikes! But good luck with your search.

Bought the Streak 5 last year. It is the unlocked give-away one so I have NO SUPPORT but haven't needed it so far. I was first to get the upgrade to 2.2 but now I am on my own ..
I am a T-Mobile customer and have been trying to decide [since I am due an upgrade] whether to go with the Streak 7 or the Galaxy Tab .. Streak 4G, Galaxy Tab 3G. Either one will seem lightning fast compared to what I have with the Streak 5 ..
2 other things that I have in the back of my mind are: Is there something else out there that will work on T-Mobiles 3G or 4G network? I sure do like those Chinese iPad look-alikes ....
I have been a gadget-a-holic for years and years. I still can't part with my HTC Shift. as time goes on, rather than getting smarter, I get ummm, LESS SMART. Maybe it is because there are too many gadgets to choose from and they are coming out so fast or maybe I am getting senile ??

OH YEAH !!! nice but ... I don't want larger than 7 inch. I have the iPad and it doesn't drop into my purse the way my Streak 5 or my son's Galaxy 7 inch tablet does.
I say go for it. It's fast, stable, and the right size. The only gripe I have with mine is the battery life and using airplane mode when I don't need tje radio and running wfi knly has helped with that bunches.
And, as a previous owner of one of the cheap chinese tablets, I can say that this tablet is one of the best ones I have ever used. If you want a tablet with 4G, this is the one you're looking for. The battery life does not compare well with some of the other tablets, but as long as you are not watching video 24/7, it should suit your needs. I am a fan of the seven inch form factor as well.

Do you use the phone capabilities on your Streak 5? They're not present with the Streak 7. Although you can get Sipdroid working, it's not as nice as a built-in phone.
Are you paying for a real data plan already? If you're prepaid, you'll have to pony up for the weekly or monthly data plans.
It's a very solid device. Very fast. Not as portable as the 5, but if you're carrying a purse, probably not an issue. Viewing angles are not fantastic.

At first I thought a 7 inch tablet would be too small and I really wanted a 10 inch. I ordered the streak 7 just because I was itching to get a tablet and I had a credit line with dell so I made the plunge. After having it and using it I realized that 7 inches is perfect! It's easy to use with one hand, it fits in my back jeans pocket (not so much after I put the otterbox commuter case on it but I can still get it in the back pocket of some of my jeans)
I know dell is coming out with a 10 inch tablet in April.. I might have to pick one of them up too hehe I'm telling you having a $6000+ credit limit with dell is VERY dangerous! hahaha
After some time playing with the Nexus 7 I felt compelled to write my impressions. This device was ordered for my mom to use for web browsing and email.
I read a lot of reviews from several tech sites as well as some forums before deciding the Nexus 7 was the right device for her.
The reviews around the tech sites were almost all positives regarding the quality and price on this device, on the other hand, the reviews from several forum members where not that great.
People where reporting issues ranging from screen separation, blown speakers and death pixels.
Tech sites mentioned the build quality of the device and the almost leather like feeling of the back surface as good points.
Almost all of them concluded that this was the tablet to get at this price point. Some of them even went as far as saying that they haven't used their iPads after getting the Nexus 7 (People Such as TWiT hosts).
All of those great reviews, even from Apple pundits, made me beleive this was a great tablet for its price point. So today we finally received the device. The first problem was noticed as soon as we opened the device, the screen was separated and lifted above the silver bezel from the left side, so much that you can hear it flexing when touching it.
The second problem was noticed when the screen was turned on. Right on the center a pixel stuck on red color, so annoying that no matter what backgroun you use, it still shows.
I own a Motorola Xoom 4G/LTE and the Nexus 7 compared to it feels like a toy. I know they are not in the same price range, but the screen on the Xoom has the feel of hard tick glass that the Nexus lacks. I don't see how the back of the Nexus is supposed to feel like leather as mentioned by some reviewers either.
I already did the required steps to exange the device for a new one. I just hope that the replacement comes free of issues, even after reading from so many members over at XDA that it may not be the case.
----- update September 11 2012 ------
I want to give an update on my experience with this device. The RMA process was completed and the replacement tablet came without issues.
My Mom has been using it ever since receiving it and I check the device once in a while just to make sure the lift screen problem is not present.
I have to say that after using the replacement unit my opinion on this tablet has changed for good. You get great value for the price and ,being a Nexus device, the assurance to that it will receive updates on time.
My original opinion was based on a defective unit, so I felt the necessity to post this update for any person still reading this section of the forums prior to making their decision to purchase one.

Honestly, even with screen flicker, this is ten times better than my iPad 2. I'm putting my iPad up on eBay tomorrow night and I'm proud to do it. I'm using a ZAGGKeys Flex Keyboard to type this post, I LOVE my N7. If you want to check out my review it's over in the accessories section of the forum.
I really hope you give the N7 another chance. This tab kicks @$$, literally.

Feel sorry for you
Hi mate, I feel sorry for you that your Nexus 7 had those problems. I received mine yesterday (16 GB version) and it is perfectly fine. Hope you'll get the replacement soon.
I'm happy with the device so far and my Transformer Prime will surely be jealous. Nexus 7 is small and light enough to carry around and to read in bed, what I can't do with the Prime because of its size and weight. 7" is my thing and definitely not the 10".
The GPS is very good. After a few seconds 11 satellites were found (note: clear sky today in London!). Overall the OS is more responsive than the Prime. So far there is for example no message "Web browser is not responding" that I sometimes get on Prime since the latest update.
The only annoying thing with Nexus 7 is that the home screen is only in portrait mode. But I'm going to root it and I can say goodbye to that annoyance.

I'll wait until the replacement comes to see. My Xoom has 64GB Total storage and 4G LTE connectivity, so for me, the N7 can't fulfill my tablet needs yet. But recognize that my mom seems to be the perfect candidate for it with its 8GB and size.
If my replacement comes without issues, I'll pull the trigger on a second one with 16GB cause my wife liked the form factor. I've been a Google supporter for a long time, heck I paid 800+ on day one for and unlocked Xoom to dive early on this android tablet adventure so I'm totally on their camp, but I expect at least a working device.

I think you should have gone with an iPad unless your Mom is one of the exceptions and real tech savvy and computer oriented. I hope this doesn't read as me being negative, I understand being upset and I'm not trying to come off as rude at all.
Don't get me wrong I love my nexus 7 and I love Android especially on a quad core tablet. I also have the Asus transformer prime and its one of my favorite devices ever. But when it comes to buying for parents, if looking for something amazing out of the box and simple and easy, I don't think the first batch of first gen nexus 7 tablets is the best choice in most cases.
I know you already bought yours and everything but since you wanted to inform others I just thought I would share my experiences that I've learned along the way.

She is pretty much OS agnostic, she can find its way around on the two computer they have at home, even though one is running Slitaz Linux, she understand the basic concepts to be able to figure it out where the browser, email and games are no matter the OS.
I took it to Best Buy to see the iPads and she played with it already, but she also played with two tablets 7 inches in size from Samsung and Acer, and decided that was a better form factor.
She basically wanted something to use out of the house for some games she plays and on the house while not on the PC. The problem here is with the device being defective rather than hard for her to use.

I feel you on the screen issues but you aren't giving the device a fair shake until you've actually gotten some seat time with it.
right now, it sounds like you're judging a defective device solely on some cosmetic issues that hopefully will get resolved with the replacement.
play with it some more until the replacement comes and evaluate it based on its size/weight, form factor, JB, speed/responsiveness, functionality, etc.

Just thought I'd make my first post on my new N7, finally gone and bought one, got the 16gb version.
So far so good, quite like the tablet and think it's a pretty good nose for a tab not as brick like and heavy as others.
No screen flex or light bleeds I don't think, any other issues to watch out for?
Cheers peeps.

The only issue i've seen was some minor screen lift but aside from that its been a phenominal tablet. I also recently picked up the 16GB and have been very happy with it! Very smooth/fast.
My tab has been terrific. Haven't had any issues with it. I do get a horizontal line flash every once in a while. It hasn't increased in frequency and doesn't seem to have any lasting effects. Left hand side, the screen is squishy but only if I consciously press down on it near the edge.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Check the speakers for crackling/distortion at louder volumes. Then check your headphone jack.
If you're still concerned about screen lift, here are my instructions for a simple visual test.
Linked for brevity.
Just love mine! I had a transformer tab but it was just to bulky and slow. Once I played with my wife's nexus I had to have one!
Mine is all good so far
I am in love with a 7 incher called nexus 7.I own a transformer and literally have not touched it since my nexus 7.It is just a little power house, and let me just say, rooting it is a must. The otg cable is awesome.I hated 7 inch tabs before this tablet,I'm now selling the transformer and hate 10 inch tablets, best money I have ever spent.I sleep with it every night, lol.

Hello, I am looking for a cover for my Nexus 7. As you can see in the title, I want to use my Nexus 7 while running, and other indoor- and outdoor sports activities.
Are there covers out there, which make using ure Nexus 7, while sporting, easier? With straps, or whatever method to let it be fairly comfortable and ease to take my nexus 7 with me while sporting.
I doubt the armband style case which is so popular with iPods would work with something as large as any 7" tablet. So what about going back to the 90's and putting it in a fanny pack? Only suggestion I can offer.

Why not?
When we go to the gym, we do some cardio for about 45 minutes, then we use the Nexus 7 to watch a movie or a serial. When we move on to do some other excercises, then we want to listen to our music. To take 2 devices with us for that is a bit too much. So thats why
The fanny pack could be a solution, thanks for that!
I got my Nexus 7 in July 2013 so it's still kinda newish to me,but im also kind of tempted by the newer model.
im gonna hold out for another 6 months though till price drops and then get the newer Nexus 7 and give my cousin this older one.
How about you folks?
Also, how long do you think the original Nexus 7 has before Google stops the updated for it?

Interesting... I use my Netbook for everything at home because for me it is the better device for such tasks. One point/problem is the glossy display of the Nexus 7. My Netbook doesn't have one so it's easier to read on it when you have light from the back. The second is the too small screen (a 10" would be better for me but what's the difference to my Netbook then?).
But everyone has their own preference.
I have Nexus 7 3G 2012 Model which i got last year & few days only warranty over , So keeping it till last , I love this baby.
In summers there is major power issue in my country so nexus 7 otg cable and 32 gb flash full of movies is good time waster.
Please ignore my spelling mistakes. English is not my native language.
I'll be using mine till it breaks.

Probably until the next one comes out. I use it a lot more than my phone, even though my phone out performs it (S4). Its just as easy to walk into the study to get the tablet as it is to walk into the kitchen to grab my phone while at home. At work, I can reach into my bag as easy as reach into my pocket (plus I carry an corporate iPhone at work). So really its just when I am out an about that I use the phone, which is not really all that often for a middle aged dad. I guess I use it at the doctor's office.
A 7" tablet is perfect for me. The 10" tablets are too hard to hold with one hand and would not slip into my travel bag as easily.
I got a N10 refurbished this last 2 weeks and been using where a tablet makes sense, once you've gone to 10" the 7" looks tiny, but the main advantage of the N7 is it's portability, it fits in most pockets on trousers and jackets and is bigger screen than my phone, plus its battery life good in offline mode.
My N7 will likely still be the best device for long flights to watch videos, easier to store and more room on the little fold-down table, but around house, N10 screen rocks.
Had mine for well over a year, and I still love it. With android 4.4 and ART, along with multirom, Ill use it till its dead. Love my N7.

I was loving my n7 until the 4.3 update came since then and with the 4.4.2 update the device seems to lag.
Prior to this it would happily open web page, watch video, write up notes, email etc now tho the thing lags, OK it is only 2-3 secs but it is still annoying as I think maybe I didn't touch correctly so touch again just as page change and then stalls to open.
Will probably go back to 4.2 still loving the actual tablet just have issues with using it.
