i will buy a used galaxy tab p1000 next week ... i have lg optimus black and it have no support at all . so i guess i will find alot of support here in galaxy tab forum and alot of roms
i cant understand any thing about flashing - roms- recovery - nightly - rc !!! alot of these stuff i found and alot of download links and alot of names so i get confused and these things become complix for me !!
i want to download ics on my galaxy tab the moment i buy it i don want to work on gingerbird
so i want any one here to help me with this problem ... i need to know these basics , how to , stable rom , etc

also can i use ics my daily use ? from ur usage to the galaxy tab working with ics , is it fast as froyo ? is it totally compatible ? can i run all programs and games ? does it lag alot and force close alot of prog ?

I am using AOKP build 40.
Faster than froyo, a lot more available apps in market because it is ICS.
no FC at all.
EDIT: using your term then, Force Close (FC)
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app

Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have Gingerbread JQ1
But since you want ICS, continue reading the guide.
- download ICS (CM9 or AOKP) and gapps-ics and put in external sd card.
- boot to download mode
- you need to use Odin to flash Overcome kerner tar
- once flashed the tab reboots.
- ignore the robotic voice, just force the tab to off
- boot to CWM recover (press vol-up and power )
- flash ICS (CM9 or AOKP)
- after flashing the system will convert your tab to MTD partition, but it will probably bring you to recovery or stuck at boot.
- force reboot to recovery again
- flash ICS again
- immediate after complete, flash gapps
- reboot
You have ICS after a few minutes of booting.

You are here too. Btw thank you for your help last time. Now i want to get cm9 on my tab. I used cubed 3d, it was stable but i really want ics feel. I am currently on froyo and wanting to get cm9 installed. Any help is appreciated.

Hi droidxrooting,
I hope you are comfortable using Heimdall.
The last round you didn't get to use it on linux?
Most of the CDMA guide is using heimdall, some guides on Windows.
The process is similar, you want to flash a kernel that has CWM 5.x and support Ext4 conversion (so called lagfix).
Then flash ICS, the gapps.
there is cyanogenmod wiki too, but I don't know if it is clear or not

flash cyanogenMod 9 Stable version,.

Now I am very comfortable with heimdall. My first experience was horrible because of the drivers on my PC. I used other computers and it worked like a charm. I can not ask for more.
The problem that I was facing with flashing cm9 over cubed 3d is the error I was getting in cwm. Error 7 installation aborted. I tried to flash other ROMs as well with out any luck. Even after master reset and clearing the caches.
Now I am back to stock and rooted. I need the way to get recovery on my tab. If you can help me it would be great.
Once I get the recovery I think I should be able to flash cm with out any problems.

[Q] Galaxy Tab P1000 new owner: any reccomendation with roms?

Hi everybody.
I just bought my very first tablet- a GT p1000.
Now, in the past few days I've been watching vids about CM9, which I find extremely cool.
As I gather, it is nowhere near completed yet tho.
So, in the meantime, could you suggest some decent looking and 100% working rom for my tablet?
You gotta admit, this forum is not very search friendly.
I have official Froyo installed as of right now, which is not very nice.
Thanks in advance and sorry for bothering ya'll.
Cheers.
just go to the dev thread and see the most popular posts there.
I think Overcome 4.1 is most popular.
You can try Hyperdroid and Accudroid too. All are GB ROMs.
Hi, I'm a newbie as well. Flash mine with Overcome 4.1 and then Hyperdroid a few days later.
My suggestion as a newbie is to use overcome 4.1 if u don't want to use stock rom.
I use Hyperdroid coz using Overcome, I have wifi disconnecting on it's own same like when I use stock GB 2.3.3
PS: Should u choose to use Hyperdroid, mind u it's a very slim rom, many of the standard app is not installed by default. But you can always install the removed applications manually. Hyperdroid has a zip file containing all the standard removed applications.

Thanks both for the suggestions.
I checked both out already.
I also checked aestethic only personalisations via apps and themes and I have to say they're pretty nice too (might just do that while waiting for CM9 in a few weeks).
Is it true tho that official GB has wifi problems?
That's worrying, since I'll be using wifi most of the time.
Wifi issue is hit and miss.
Maybe it is wifi router dependant. Maybe 10%-20% has it.
I am fine using overcome 4.1 with 3 different wifi router.
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
wifi issue was 100% caused by belkin router.
If you do have belkin router, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1441040&highlight=wifi
If you have different router, there shouldn´t be problems with wifi

Thanks for the info.
I have Netgear both at home & workplace.
Not a pressing matter after all anyway as I found out:
I managed to get a 3gb/month with no overlimit charge (only slower speed) for 5 euros/month. That'd should be plenty.
Pretty nice.
Sorry again, but what is the maximum size micro sd I could use on the P1000?
Is it 32 or 64gb?
Thanks.

1. it contain gingerbread rom , my gtab already on gb , should I still do this ?
2. it have No_wipe & Wipe versions , which one should I use ?

[Q] Galaxy Mini flashed, Issues appearing

Hi guys,
I'm new in this world and want to experiment
Yesterday I've rooted my Galaxy Mini with the universal root method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576202
That worked fine, than I installed the recovery using Odin Multidownloader v4.38 for GTS5570, Tass_v1.ops and Clockwork Mod Recovery 5.0.2.6.
And then used the ROM CM 7.2.0-RC2-tass.
Once that done, I noticed that I couldn't create my google account, after searching I had to flash gapps, then I could add my google account.
After that I noticed that there were no google apps such as play, gmail, apps...
I've downloaded the google play apk 3.5.15 but now each time I try to doanload an app it gives me an error "can't download... error 941"
I searched a lot again to fix but didn't succeed.
I'm thinking if it's possible to go back to the stock ROM instead of the CM7???
Or is there any other way to fix my issues???
Thanks a lot for your help
Wipe everything and reinstall cyanogen a gapps again

In fact after u flash Gaaps, u should go to settings > accounts and sync and then log to ur gmail account. The market will open (old market) ,exit it. Let ur wifi or net on, it will automatically update to google playstore and sometimes u can download just after or if u cant then reboot ur device.
If u have further questions or problems, feel free to ask. Welcome to the modding world =D
I did wipe everything and reinstall CM7
I've downloaded gapps, latest version that i found and flash it.
Ive added an account first which opened then google play and now it seems that I can download apps.
Thanks a lot guys for your help.
Just...
Just don't forget to wipe every after Rom installation to avoid errors with the new roms. Cheers!

I don't like cyanmobile, because in the cm settings, there are some bugs. Like if I go to the lockscreen style, I get settings force close. It's the only reason why I don't use cyanmobile.

Try minisense v3.5... overall its a good rom, and fast with no lags. The only setback is the characters in the keyboard is blur, but the devs are fixing that as well and v4 will be out soon. Search for minisense v3.5 and hope that helped you.

guide me to install ics

asked be4 about which rom is the best one before i bought the galaxy tab
now i bought an used galaxy tab but with good condition so im new here " a noob "
and honestly i get cofused with all the topics and guides and answers ,,, it is like a paradox for me !!!
i want to install AOKP rom but from what i read it require overcome rom be4 i install it ... i need to know why !! my galaxy tab seems to be in stock rom gb why i cant install aokp rom without these dilemma ?
and there are alot of word i dont understand like MTD , modems , drivers , kernals , etc
and also there are liks from overcome are dead ,,, Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_Wipe.zip ,,,Overcome_7_Series_v4.1.0_NoWipe.zip,,,Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.tar,,,Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.zip,,, modems
so if u please guide me how to install it from the beginning to the end i will be very pleased
The why : you need to use CWM to flash ics, and overcome kernel has it.
There are others but the method may not be reliable.
Here to get overcome

and what about modems ? which one i use ? or dont use any one ?
Gb stock safe package contains modem.
There is no need to flash overcome rom.
Only up to overcome kernel, you have cwm.
Use that to flash ics.
Basically to restock:
Download GB-stock-safe-v5.zip, unzip it and and flash with ODIN according to the guide.
Stop there and you will have clean Gingerbread.
But since you want ICS, continue reading the guide.

Hey, you don't sleep. Do you
Great you are now on AOKP like me. You won't regret.
Grab an external SD and learn to do Android backup from recovery.
And move it to external SD for safe keep.
And also learn titanium backup, also choose to backup to external is better in that one.
Samsung uses touchwiz framework for many of its app. So you can't have them in aosp based rom like cm9 and AOKP, or even miui.
But head to the application and theme sub forum. There are a few that runs.
Camera known issue.
Super user built in. You can now run Titanium backup that requires root.
Or es file explorer my favorite, in root mode and system mounted read write. Terminal too, just type su in the terminal shell and you get root.
Rom control, ask in AOKP thread in dev.
Also nav bar, ask in dev if that can be done.
I mostly run stuff in standard mode.

@priyana:
Hi, I have a question, actually two:
1. Does GSM work on AOKP out of the box?
2. Is it supposed to work on CM9 ICS 4.0.4? This is what I have now, 3G works but when I make a call hear the tab ringing but my phone does not.
I bought this baby used in top shape and I would really like to get the phone function working.
Thanks in advance
yes GSM should work on both AOKP and CM9 since they use the same device tree.
I understand Canada has different GSM/UMTS frequency than us in europe/asia/australia ? the default baseband in AOKP and CM9 is JPZ
In your default stock firmware, can you have 3G and also make phone call?
You need the same modem, if you can remember which baseband you are using in stock.
Else we just have to look around what works for you.
Go to the modem thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
and try get the AT&T modem,
BUT DONT FLASH the zip via CWM in ICS.
backup your /radio/modem.bin first.
just unzip the zip and find the modem.bin and copy and paste to /radio/modem.bin
reboot and check the baseband and try your 3G and call.
Thanks man, I will try it and let you know. I got the unit used and with the mentioned ROM already on it.
The baseband that I have is P1000XXJPZ
Once again, thanks
Hmm, yeah, it didn't work...
I tried the steps found in the Overcome guide and I restocked after that I stopped and tried calling and ... IT WORKED!
I am now rebooting after flashing the overcome kernel (it's doing some conversion to ext3) ...
All that's left after that is to flash the rom... OK, it's booting, let's see what's next
OK CWM recovery does its thing...done, rebooting. Can't wait to try the voice call feature... And it works also!
I am pretty happy with the results of my 15 minutes of work.
Anyone needing stuff, I am ready to help

[Q] New 8.9 owner amd noob needs help rooting

So i got the 8.9 last week and am pretty happy so far. My main uses are internet surfing and hd videos from youtube and play store. However one of my only complaints is that this thing isnt the fastest. I upgraded to official ics when i first got the tab and its not bad but still id like to install Asop jellybean and overclock the tab to 1.2 or 1.4. However id hate to brick my tab which i see on here all the time. The only problem is i have no idea how to root, even after reading and searching for the past week. My question is could some one tell me or show me a link to show EXACTLY how to root to the newest asop jb from official ics without bricking and then tell me how to oc it? I am such a noob with this, I dont know what kernels or anything is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm. I'd be careful recommending ROMs just yet. He hasn't mentioned which model of 8.9 Tab he has.
Given that he mentions he's already on ICS I'd assume he's probably got a wifi-only P7310. He doesn't mention any other radio types (3G, LTE, etc.).
@Wrebbs, what model 8.9 tab do you have?

Not happy with the stock ICS version of the Tab? Did it upgrade over kies? Are you in the US? I am in Europe and have the 3G version. Have to use a ported rom from 7500 to get ICS.
The ICS I have runs really smooth! Price was good aswell. Strange that your TAB is slow...
Only problem I have is that Adobe Flash gives me some trouble in HD and on some sites.
I tried HC 3.2 Stock, CM10 JB 4.1, SafariKing ICS and ported ICS from 7500 v2 and honestly - If I had stock original ICS I think I would stay with it! The Jellybean ROMs still have issues. in Alpha Beta stages.
The Tracid rom mentioned might be the next rom I try, but still happy with the ICS rom I have. If it aint broke don't fix it... (Itchy though, flashing roms is fun.)
Take it from someone whos hard bricked before, take your time and do your homework. Make sure you know the rom is for your specific device. You're not going to see drastic speed increases even if oc'd. So take your time and re-read everything. Your going to have to flash a recovery first, cwm or twrp through odin. Again, make sure it's for your device. Then you can root or flash a rooted rom. Once again, make sure it's for your device.

I am a Galaxy S user. My Galaxy S was bought in Finland and still running (basically stuck with) Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU). The phone's hardware is just fine (except slow GPS) but it has become paninfully slow and sometime shutting down/restarting on it's own.
Is it a good idea to reset the existing GingerBread 2.3.6 or get a different ROM?
I am a total novice and have not tried any other ROMs on it. I did some research about the alternative ROMs but there are so many options it made me really confused.
Could you guys suggest any stable and fast option for my Galaxy S i9000?
Also, if you could guide how I could migrate to that particular ROM from present Gingerbread, it would be really helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support and for this great forum.
Cheers

Could anyone please help?
Hi,I'm not going to be much help as I'm a noob myself but I can say I had same stock laggy gt 19000 which through like u said a lot of confusion about rooting and ROMs researching XDA and YouTube you can do it my galaxy s is like a new phone so stick with it,one tip is always stick to you model and kernel version and write things down and I hope it goes as well as it did for me. Btw I used Odin 3.1 and clockwork to root and Flashed ROM with Cm 10.1 stable.

if you want to stay to 2.3.6 you can just factory reset your phone
Try this
Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is coming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the chosen option. ( factory reset )
---------------
if you want to upgrade to ICS or JB rom
root your firmware , choose the right cf-root from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788108
download ICS rom ( i suggest this one )
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687727
install it via recovery
if you want to upgrade to JB
go to development section , chose any custom rom you want
and install via recovery
push thanks :good: if i helped you

Thank you mistrp74 and The Tox for the help.
I am still a bit confused, I cant seem to locate the right cf-root [Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU)] from the thread you mentioned.
One more thing, how is your experience of running the Custom Roms, is it much better than the Samsung Firmware? Does all the function work fine?
I will need a bit of spoon feeding in the beginning for the update... as I have never tried it before and I am scared of bricking my phone.
So, please don't give up on me

The right CF-Root is in the seond to last post on the first page I believe- if you can fnd the one for XXJW4, the one you need is right above it
Custom ICS/JB roms are definitely smoother in many ways, although bear in mind because stock Jelly Bean don't include them, both FM Radio and 3G video calling won't work by default (two features of stock roms, I guess AllShare is another if you use it like me). Otherwise every other function is stable and rock solid. Except for the CM10.2 builds, which are still in an initial stage, the JB roms here should have everything working fine.

Thanks a lot guys!
I finally managed to do it.
I installed the CF-Root without any problem but RemICS-UX v1.3.1 (Team Remics) didn't load. It was stuck at the boot screen.
I thought I bricked my phone... but then I installed Ginerbread 2.3.6 (I9000xxJVU) using Odin and then installed plain vanilla ICS 4.0.3
Coming from Ginerbread 2.3.6 I find a lot of new things and the phone is also snappy and responsive... my old Galaxy S is acting almost like a new phone! So I am really happy.
Now that I am familiar with the process I am confident to tryout other ROMs...
I would like something simple, lightweight and fully-functional/bug-free.
So please let me know if there is any other better ROM I should try.
Thanks again guys!

Just one more question, what's your backup strategy that you guys use?
Or else it a lot of work to update each and every app... one by one... also what about the SMS, call log etc?

Because I'm a person who 1.) doesn't use too many apps and 2.) tries to be as economical as possible, I don't have a large amount to backup. My contacts and calendar are always through Google, and for SMS I use SMS Backup and Restore on Play Store. Call log I don't keep, because I'm not a person who really cares for call logs. I only have one other app, Colornote, and that's cloud-synced as well.
Everything else I need is in internal storage :3

More or less similar situation as TS
Hey guys,
Im in a more or less similar situation as the topic starter. My Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 has gotten slow and unresponsive with time.
I would like to update to a custom ROM, and got a little curious about the Slim Bean. But I feel a little unsure about how to proceed.
I'm currently running a custom Gingerbread 2.3.3 ROM, my device is rooted. I flashed this ROM from the Froyo that came with the phone about 2 years ago. It's been so long since I flashed this, I need some directions, as Im afraid I will brick my device.
When I go to recovery mode I see it runs ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.3 - Voodoo lagfix.
Can I just put a Slim Bean 4.2 android version on my internal sd card and run "install zip from sdcard" in ClockwordMod? I would prefer to flash the latest stable version of Slim Bean, which would that be 4.2.2.build7-OFFICIAL?'
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Bootism
Best way to update from gb or even older to jb is imo the way over cyanogenmod.
Follow this tutorial for 10.1: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_galaxysmtd
And then you can upgrade via cwm to the very good slim bean.

Thanks for the answer!
I recall reading about lots of issues with the lagfix and flashing ROMs. My file storage system is in ext4 instead of standard rfs, I think I should somehow undo this if I recall correct. Is this true?
Do you have an option to unlagfix in recovery?
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I can choose "voodoo lagfix" in recovery.
It has the following options:
- disable lagfix
- enable lagfix (default)
- /system lagfix on (default)
- /system lagfix off
- debug off (default)
- debug on
Enter disable lagfix and reboot

Ok, so I got Cyanogenmod 10.1.0 running! so far so good
Good job. Now you can flash a zip in cwm.

Yeah, it's a whole new world opening up. Old phone runs relatively smooth, at least way better than before thanks for helping. I will stay on this Cyanogenmod for a bit and explore. Can I just flash in any of the ROMs as .zip in CWM later? I will look for a lightweight ROM for my old phone, any suggestions?
