Battery drain after LRK update ? (+ downgrading) - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it easy to roll back to the previous LRG update as the battery seems to drain pretty fast on this firmware, LRG was pretty much perfect for me as I'd lose 3-4% battery overnight from a full charge but this has lost 15% in the same amount of time.
18hrs since fully charged
76% left (24% gone in 18hrs)
7mins screen time
Deep sleep for 16hrs

It's funny your getting this issue as I have the exact opposite experience with what your getting at. I was with stock Open Germany LRG before, and using that firmware.. I lost about 17% drain after a full charge overnight using it. When I changed Rom to LRK (and installing the latest speedmod kernel), now my phone's overnight battery % goes 1% every 4 hrs.. not bad right? I think you can try exploring other options like flashing kernels first (try speedmod) and see if there's some considerable differences (or not) with your phone's batt life.

Which way did you use to get LRK? On which kernel are you? Which ROM? Do you notice other bugs? (apps that freeze, wifi/gps not working...)
It seems that you have the deep sleep issue, but what's surprizing is that you get it by upgrading... ^^'

hmm, what's special about the speedmod kernel and is it at all risky to flash it ?

Flashed via mobile odin, the kernel is as follows 3.0.15-N7000XXLRK-CL811902. I haven't noticed any bugs thus far. Seems to go into deep sleep according cpuspy

The changelog and functions of speedmod are here : http://touristinparadise.blogspot.sg/2012/01/samsung-galaxy-note-speedmod-kernel.html
I really recommend it, it feels really smooth, and drains less battery imho. And CWM and superuser are included.
All flashes have a risk (but it's minimal), this kernel is known to be safe (you can wipe data/factory reset = MMC superbrick-proof)
In battery settings, what drains the most your battery?

[Q] Battery drain after upgrading from 2.2 to 2.2.1 official

Yesterday I upgraded from official Froyo 2.2 to official Froyo 2.2.1. I made factory reset and restored data and applications WITHOUT system settings. So, everything is the same like in version 2.2. During night (cca. 7 hours) my battery dropped for cca. 50% which never happened on Froyo 2.2. What can be wrong? Is there some additional setting on 2.2.1 turned on which was not existed on 2.2 or something else?
Please, advise. Thanks.

easy solution is to install CWM mode and flash any modem.. i use JPE modem which gives me 37-40 hrs battery life with moderate use
hope this helps
Perhaps you have to go through some charging-cycles. I haven't this on my phone. Certanly on my phone runs CyanogenMod 7 without problems.
bye
Battery drain is not standard on upgrade to stock 2.2 .

EDIT: It also seems that battery is faster charged on 2.2.1 than on 2.2. Strange...
I didn't understand you.
Slowly then Upgrading the firmware from 2.1 to 2.2 does not of itself generate large extra battery drain ..
Read the battery Faq posts and battery drain thread .

My phone running stock 2.2.1 JPY drained like 9% of the battery during a 14 hour "sleep" period, of which like 60% of it was cell standby, and ~20% of was the screen (even though the total screen time was like 4 minutes... stupid power hungry samoled), 12% idle power and 8% wifi. Wifi sleep was set to 'with screen off'. I'm pretty sure the battery indicator was somehow draining power during idle too LOL. So contrary to the '300 hours of standby', I would only be getting around 140 hours. Not much I can do since it's mostly the cell just connecting to towers draining the battery.
With a normal days use I can probably get 2 full days out of it (28 hours 'use' + 8 hours sleep), but I never take the risk and always charge. Of course it depends what I do with it... If I leave the screen on for 5-6 hours of course it's going to drain the battery to 0%, but so far, for the 90% of the time I leave it on sleep mode in my pocket, battery drain is about the same as the stock 2.2 my phone came with.
I managed to flash official Froyo 2.2.1 with I9000ZSJPE modem which have the least battery drain but over night I have same battery drain than before: cca. 60% drop for 7 hours. This never happened on official Froyo 2.2. ...
Maybe the battery needs to be calibrated again.

[Q] Darkys 9.5 Wlan causes Battery Drain

Hey guys,
the day before yesterday i flashed Darky's 9.5 on my phone.
This is the first Darkys version for me. The flashing was fine and very easy but then i got big problem regarding the Wlan battery use.
First i tell you how i flashed Darkys, perhaps i did a failure here.
1) First i flashed Darkys Reserrection Version on my phone
2) After that i configured the Darkys App from the market and flashed the reserrection.zip with CWM
3) At the end i flashed Darky's 9.5 with CWM
Now the points regarding my problem.
Yesterday night i switch off my phone with at least 85% battery. I switched off GPS,Bluetooth and i deactivated the data transfer mode for UMTS. But it was my intention to test the battery drain with active WLAN, because with the original T-Mobile Firmware the phone uses circa 25% battery a night.
But when i woke up i was really shocked. My phone turned off and the battery was complete empty. In this night the battery drained 85%. How is this possible? There were no apps running excepting the Advanced Task Killer.
Did i something wrong? (When i flashed the battery was fully charged)!!
//edit
Here are my settings:
PDA: I9000XWJS8
Phone: I9000XXJVE
CSC: I9000XXJS1
Kernel: DarkCore 1.0
I wouldn't think this was a common issue. Have you tried just re-flashing the ROM again via CWM? Maybe try the same thing again?
Thx for your answer.
Yeah i even think that it's not a common issue.
I will watch the battery this night. If the bug occurs again, i will flash the Rom with CWM again. Have i to disable the lagfix or can i do it on the fly without changing something in the current system ? If yes, where?
my battery is the best its been in a long while since using this rom so i wouldnt dismiss it just yet. what modem are u using?
I use the modem Darky's App Configurator has recommend (JQ1 but i have read that JVE is flashed (se my settings above)). But i think I will try flashing again. This night the battery drops from 100% to 47% with the same settings I mentioned above. Then i watched the battery usage, but they were strange.
Wifi and "Wifi using" uses 100% cause they were running the whole time. But the category "execution" used 75%, so the phone did not drop into sleep mode for about 75% of the whole night? How is this possible? I checked all my 3rd party apps I installed on my own and they don't have a setting to manage this.
Does one app of Darky's Configurator do this?
Well Darky can answer question best .
Me i blame the rom change the rom .
jje
Now i flashed Darkys 9.5 with wipe again.I will watch the battery drain and I will notify you about the result.
//edit
Now I go asleep and I will report tomorrow if the flash was successfull. But I got one question left:
By accident I saw in the wireless setting window that my phone scans every 5 seconds for new devices, even if its connected to my own router. (If the phone goes to standby the WLAN does not scan cause of my settings). But why das it scan every 5 or 6 seconds, even if it's connected to my own device?? Is it possible to increment the scan time?
Good morning guys,
here is my update:
I think the reflash worked. Last night my phone uses 10% battery with wifi and data transfer on, gps and bluetooth off. I think this is a good value.
By using the flightmode the next times I will save some more
Now there is the question left regarding the number of wifi scanns. (see the post above). Is it modifiable ?

Did you recalibrate your battery after upgrading to Darky's 9.5?
It is recommended that u recalibrate your battery when you flash a new ROM.
You shoukd recalibrate your battery, i.e. drain it, turn off your phone and fully charge it, completely drain it (use it heavily). Then charge it again and voila, recalibrated!
Also, I find that after flashing a new ROM the battery drains really quick the first 2 times I charge it, before actually working as it should. So it's not that strange that your phones battery was dead in the morning. But I think this also has to do with recalibrating the battery.
Darkys v9.5 has a battery life of 3-4 days for me (not heavy usage) so it should be better after recalibrating your battery!

Battery drain after installing MIUI

Hi, I recently installed MIUI 3 and seem to be getting some problems with battery life.
What I've done so far:-
-Installed MIUI 3 with the SpeedMod kernal (as directed in the manual). Battery life dropped to 12hrs
-Reset battery stats, no change
-Installed MIUI 3.3. Battery went back up to ~30hrs
I thought 3.3 fixed it but after a day the battery life dropped by half. After another day it dropped by half again. Now it's only lasting 6hrs, and when on charge it doesn't reach 100% charged but stays at 98% even overnight.
What is going on with this thing?
Half of MIUI threads is about battery drain. There is no solution until now.

They're all like 1 year old. The battery was supposedly fixed in the latest release, and I know someone with the same phone, using MIUI, and they don't have this problem.
I think it might be something to do with the speedmod kernel. I don't know anything about the compatibility of kernels and MIUI so i just followed the instructions in the manual and used speedmod
I don't really know what's going on... in my phone the battery lasts for around 60 hours, maybe more, whatever rom/kernel I've used...
I've been using all of galnet's muiu and still have to find a battery issue. In my particular case, I don't use GPS, so it's off all the time. I don't think that's the issue though...
It's a known issue of CM7/MIUI.
no solution at the moment
Sorry but what is CM7?
And if there's no solution, how can someone with the same model phone not have the same issue?...
MIUI has battery problem and its not solved. If you disable data, gps, sync...
it saves some.
I will look into that and try to help!

btw disabling data doesn't make that much difference.

I think that this is as much a cm7 thing, as anything else, and most people just tweak and seek til they find a combination of things that work, so worth looking in rhe relevant threads and reading back

Well for anyone interested I found the problem. I tried flashing with the latest SpeedMod kernel, phone wouldn't boot, and I had to reflash the entire bootloader with MIUI's modified Froyo
Now the problem I noticed when I went to install MIUI.. the zip on my phone was 2.2 instead of 3.2.
NFI how I ended up with that outdated version! So the latest 3.3 seems to have fixed it now. Phone has been on for almost 20 hours and only dropped 30% in battery. That's more like it.
Although this did happen the first time, it seemed OK and then kept dropping by half capacity each day.. But if I really was somehow using 2.2 then hopefully that's all it was
I found out yesterday that my phone doesnt really go idle because of some google process waking my phone notoriously, and probably thats why it uses more battery. I also have very week signal (only 3g) which makes my phone use more battery than normal, but on non cm7 roms i made it one day with no problem. Right now I'm on galnet's miui and this is really fantastic rom, but battery wont last one day in my case. So the idle problem is the case i think... yesterday I closed gapps process before i went to sleep, and my phone was sleeping nicely too This process is caused by android market, and miui doesnt close it up. I also freezed gmaps - someone in galnets thread said it also drains battery. Well I'll see in few days how the battery will behave.

Also Battery Calibration.apk (can be found in market) works to calibrate your battery properly.
56hrs without recharging, 22% battery still remaining. So clearly it's not a problem with CM or MIUI any more
I have exactly the same problem.. tried the battery callibration app..also tried the wipe battery stats article.. i ve finished recharging 100% 2hours ago... now my phone is 55%..no gps no games.. 2 phone calls for 2min each.. i love the rom and hate the battery

[Q] [i9000] Team ICSSGS RC3.1 - Battery Life

Hello everyone!
I've installed few days ago the onecosmic's ROM RC3.1, beatiful, perfect, smooth bla bla.
The problem is: i'm seeing so many post of people saying that with full charge, phone can stay alive for an average of 1 day- 1 day and an half (24-36h) with a normal use.
My phone can last 13-14h staying most of the time in standby and it's the 5th cycle so should be "stabilized" now. 1st cycle was awful, 8h (didn't expect anything else), then things got better but i've reached this cap of 14h.
I've tried Fugu kernel at first but i didn't get much improvement so i switched to paul kernel and changed modem too (jvk->jvt).
Still can't reach the dreamed 24-36h, i mean, i don't care about having 2 days of battery life, i would like to use the phone without having to charge it in the middle of the day.
btw nstools installed and set Deep Idle on, which seems to works just fine for me with the paul kernel.
(can't post outside link -.-)
nstools stats:
h*tp://i44.tinypic.com/6duvzb.png
does these stats means it's working?
i'll post also CPUspy stats:
h*tp://i43.tinypic.com/35052qf.png
is it everything ok here?
On standby there's no battery drain effect now, but when i'm using it, i get 1% down every 1-2 min.
What do you guys suggest? do i need to try other kernels/modems? shoud i try to flash again?
p.s. on 2.3.5 stock i used to have 24-36h but there's no way i'm going back to GB, i love ICS.
I used to have 24h of battery life, but I don't know what happened, after a week or so now my phone is draining 20% every hour, dead by noon...
Tried NStools with undervolt, and it didn't change anything.
It's now an useless piece of junk... this is retarded, either i will try reinstalling ICS or im going back to GB.

Update: i just flashed again with RC3,1 and paul kernel. Situation seems a little better, gonna update again after few battery cycles.

sure! with the new paul kernel the battery life is better! amd now i'm trying the last glitch...my phone seems to work better...!i will hope to have also a good battery life without hard drain (with didle support maybe it's possible!)
actually, there was a lot of "Android OS" usage, maybe something went wrong from the beginning, the phone wasn't going to deep sleep state when put on stan-by and use more cpu than necessary when active, that must have been the main issue.
As i said, installed RC3.1 again this morning now everything is gooood
Lots of facebook, whatsapp, camera and 1 call, still have 67%. When put on standby battery almost doens't drop at all (checked on battery graph).
I think it's solved
I've the same problem. my battery life sucks...
Now my question. Where can I find/download the paul kernel? I#ll re-flash it too .
And my second question, do the "devil - der teufel" kernel do a great job too?

dunno about devil kernel, i read that for someone is even better than paul and it solves also "green screen" issue that appear when you lock the phone. I'm happy with this config so i won't touch it until RC4
I confirm that ,now, when my phone is in stand-by, battery usage is almost 0.
btw paul's kernel can be found here:

(sorry about the "*" in the url but it won't let me post link 'til i get 10 post -.-)
is also in the first post of the Team ICSSGS rom btw
I have flashed RC3.1 yesterday, it lasted for 8 hours. I was using it heavily to check all the features, syncing the contacts etc. I have drained the battery fully now. Will charge it upto 100% and see how long it last now with normal usage.

Battery Drain
hello everyone - I have been searching a lot abou this i9000 battery drain on ICS. I am using ICS and Devil karnel and battery lasts for around 11-12hrs. My usage is pretty normal. I dont use phone for most of the time but still it reaches to 12hrs mark. If I check battery stats then Android OS and Display (brightness is very low) are consuming most of the battery.
Please let me know if there are any ROM Tweeks or any other way to increase battery time. Or I will have to go back to GB because I hate charing battery two times a day.
Thank you.

[Q] Stock ROM battery drain after playing with Maclaw ROMS

After playing around with some Maclaw ROMS (cm10.2 and cm11) I went back to stock ROM. However I had big battery drains after that.
I did a complete wipe of user and cache and dalvik. I installed stock firmware with Odin. Did it over again with KIES. But still a big battery drain. Like 15% an hour. No apps installed other than the bloatware the in the firmware.
I've read somewhere about someone else who had the same issue, but I cannot find it anymore.
Anyone an idea?
Maybe you should try to format all partitions in recovery (except your internal and external SD card of course) and reflash the stock firmware.
By the way, 15% an hour is quite normaal for me.

Custom Roms battery drain, can be the 1ghz bug .
when you did alot off playing ( such as flashing from rom to rom an formatting again in a few hours. it cost you battery .
And now back on stock rom. Try to load your battery again to 100 % and see what will happen after it .
Stock rom = 100 % - 0% battery --> +- 20 hours
Custom roms= can do it longer.
but if you are a heavy caller, gamer. the battery will be down faster .

I've had the same problem. I updated the working 10.1 october version to the december version. After switching back to october version the failure was still there. Only way to solve it was a new battery - but it costs only about 10 € ...
i think that it is true that rom by itself is still buggy with cpu governer bug that causes to be stuck on 1ghz without dropping to 200mhz on the other side...when i try another version i shall make my jugdement more clearly

Perhaps you should also consider the lifetime and usage of your battery. After months of charging and discharging once or twice a day, it´s not so unnormal that a battery goes weak...which has imho directly nothing to do with the used software...

Thanks for the reply.
I charged again to 100 % en let it go to 0%. It took about 9 hours, AIRPLANE MODE!!!
Checked CPU with CPU spy: it goes to deep sleep.
No apps installed except the bloatware the Samsung firmware comes with (and CPU spy).
Maybe it's just my battery gone bad/dead at the same time I tested the Maclaw roms. I already ordered a new one (2450 mAh!), but it takes about a month to get here (if it arrives all together; I live on a tiny little island).
However... I also noticed I do not have network coverage some times. Just no network. Could it be that if you flash it with Odin/Kies not everything is wiped and reinstalled? Like modem drivers (although it's strange the drain also occurs in airplane mode). To make it more complicated: I just moved to another place, so maybe the coverage is worse around here.
I just hate it if I can't pinpoint the problem

When you are on stock. This is not normale, your battery is going bad

Tried the 02.16 cm11 release => no change. Think my battery is just gone. I'll wait for the new one to arrive and will see then.

Perhaps you should also consider the lifetime and usage of your battery. After months of charging and discharging once or twice a day, it´s not so unnormal that a battery goes weak...which has imho directly nothing to do with the used software...

Think you're right. Bah, so it ain't something that can be fixed by/in a flash.

I bought a 2450 mAh battery here (only $5, but have to see if it really arrives first):

Hi!, I'm having the same issue here:
-Super-battery drain, specially when restarting the phone, huge 20% drops.
-Phone looses signal inexplicably,5 bars and suddenly dead, restarting solves the problem, but when signal drops, the battery starts getting HOT, even on IDLE.
-Im using Carbon 4.4.2 KitKat ROM on S3Mini I8190L.
Battery was working quite well with Cyano 11 about 3 months ago, switched to MIUI ROM because a friend recommended it, ROM started to be unstable, laggy and battery life wasn't great, had the same "signal lost" issues. Then downloaded the Carbon ROM and everything went worse.
-I always do full wipe, (davlik, data, interal storage, everything).
Any ideas?
