Back to stock and re-root issues - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Hello all...Since I can't post in the dev section I hope to obtain some help here...
I'm already rooted on stock rom. I'm trying to go back to stock with a newer RUU (from 3.26.502.54 to 3.26.502.56 ) and re-root. I'm doing this because of an issue with Skype (green video). I've read that going to a newer software version could fix my hulk problem.
So, following this thread, I have two problems.
First, when re-locking the bootloader, I get this:
C:\Android>fastboot oem lock
... INFOLock successfully...
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 0.016s
Click to collapse
I don't know if this is bad or not....After doing this the bootloader does show that it has been relocked. So I continued on.
Next problem, when running the RUU exe, I come to an error "155" (screenshot).
I read somewhere that the error 155 could be due to HTC Sync, so I uninstalled it and retried, no success. Not sure where to go from here...

Witch ruu file you using ?

I got it from HTC's website (htc.com/us/support/htc-vivid-att/software-updates#). Did the manual download.
I was going to try the RUU linked on the other thread from filefactory, but I couldn't bear the stupidly slow download speed.

I thought that the gpu driver update fixed the issue with the green video. Take a look in the dev section and see if that helps

Thanks! That worked. Went from 39.8fps to 44.7fps, and no more green man video.

Glad that worked for you and probably a whole lot easier than running the ruu and having to set your phone up the way you wanted again

[Q] Trying to Root my Vivid

Hey guys, I'm attempting to root my HTC Vivid and things aren't going as well as I hoped. I'm new to Android, this is my first Android phone, and I'm still trying to learn a bit.
I have been following the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416836
So far I have unlocked my bootloader via HTCdev.com and now I'm working on flashing CWM following the guide above. I booted into H-Boot and plugged the phone into my computer and typed "fastboot devices" and it displayed my phone in command prompt. Then, following the instructions, I typed "Fastboot flash recovery root_recovery.img" and this is what command prompt printed out:
sending 'recovery' (4448 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.998s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 1.763s
I'm trying to figure out why it FAILED, and I've been looking around but I just can't seem to figure it out. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help!
Never seen this before. Are you sure the unlock worked correctly? Does it say unlocked at the top of the screen when you go into hboot?

Yea... what the other guys said. You must not be actually unlocked via HTC Dev because it's failing at the part when it's checking with the bootloader. Go into bootloader and tell us if it says unlocked. (Turn off phone, once off, hold down power and vol down button)
Good call guys, it says *** RELOCKED *** at the top. Now the question is... why? I'll attempt to unlock it again and let you know how it turns out.
Alright, I tried it again and that did the trick. I'm now permanently rooted! This is so exciting! Thanks again guys.
So unfortunately I'm having a bit more trouble. I got my phone rooted and tried installing the Holicakes kernel, and now my phone is stuck on the white HTC screen. I can boot into recovery, just not into the ROM. What should I do? I've tried doing a factory reset and stuff but it's still doing the same thing.

I Just went thru something similar this morning with my Vivid, I did the following to get it back:
1. Get the Cingular RUU if you don't already have it (I got it here, the server was down in the main RUU thread for this ruu file) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416956
2. Had to relock bootloader to get past the verification error (if you have your unlock.bin you just reuse the same file to re-unlock)
3. Boot your phone to bootloader then select fastboot. (you will likely have to pull the battery to get this step done)
4. Connect your phone & run the RUU and you should be good.
5. (optional) Re-unlock & root.
Hope this helps
Cheers

Did you flash the kernel but not the rom? If you are going to flash the kernel, you must flash the rom right after, without even leaving recovery. Try again and see if it works.

nope. not at all.
you should see the other forums i am in.
even the captivate that has been out since July 2010 still has people come in and make new posts asking how to root. and samsungs are among the easiest damn phones EVER to root....not to mention the GOBS of information out there on it.
the vivid doesnt have much. slapshot has been helpful with the guide and keeping it up to date.

Yea that guide was really helpful. I had a fair bit of trouble trying to get root and everything, but now that I have, I've at least learned something about how this all works. It's addicting Can't wait for more ROMs to start coming out.

What gave you the most trouble would you say? I'm trying to get feedback from the successful people so I can add more details where needed, but as soon as they get root they just ditch lol.
The trouble I was having had nothing to do with the guide, just my ignorance on the topic. I had no clue what I was doing. I screwed up a few times by accidentally re-locking the bootloader without noticing it, which obviously caused some problems. And then flashing a kernel confused me a bit. I was trying to install Holicakes ROM and I didn't realize that you wouldn't be able to boot after installing the kernel, and that you had to install the ROM on top of it as well.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. Glad you got it all figured out. The kernel installing is being worked on. PG is testing out a new app.
Forgive me for posting here, I'm still noob and cant post in development forum. Just wanted to put out there, I flashed the RumRaider beta10. Had no issues flashing and booting, was pretty smooth with the provided instructions. Wifi working, had to manually set the AT&T pta, so far havent noticed any issues with mobile data ot MMS. This is a very fast ROM, ran Quadrant with a result of 2969, sorry I don't know how to do a screenshot yet. Very nice work so far

Let the games begin!!!! Rooted and Unlocked (Bootloader) Atrix HD 4.0.3 on hand

Shout out to Bin4ry at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460. I used that tool for the root.
....... AND ....... the cherry on top (well...actually this is an even bigger deal!), the phone has an UNLOCKED bootloader. Yes, you read that right!
There you have it folks. Like I said, let the games begin!!!! Lets see what we can pull from this 4.0.3 phone to get root for 4.0.4!
I just need a dev to tell me what to do. I'm willing to give everything a shot as long as the phone does not get bricked. That is not acceptable under ANY circumstances.
And for the "nay" sayers......

I didn't find this swf....I have the phone in my hand. I know its 4.0.3. That's why its kind of a big deal. The reason I posted this is because I thought it would jump start the root process for 4.0.4.

Maybe we can try taking that route and see if in fact we can root 4.0.4.

Why are you guys being rude to him ?
Its probably the best bet the AHD currently has.
If its not a virus, you only need a root preserver or/and an 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 ota patch and you are set.
If there is a ota update, you have to search moto's servers for it...
This is an app you can do the search with... its the same way many moto phones got their ics leaks.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840826
I've pulled the boot.img and the bootloader from my phone. I ran the following commands through emulator.
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p31 of=/sdcard/boot.img
exit
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p5 of=/sdcard/aboot.mbn
exit
Lets see if anything comes out of this.
So, now that we have a rooted boot.img, what do we do with it?

Nothing. His phone is a dev phone and as such the partitions weren't signed. I don't think anything aerohp has can be useful and won't help to get a bounty either :/
EDIT: You can see here that the bootloader is not signed for example on the very bottom of this diffcheck. left is stock bootloader right is unlocked engineering bootloader.

Major root issues HELP! partial brick?

*First of all, I'm posting here because I haven't had enough posts for the dev section yet..*
So...I've never had any issues rooting and installing ROMs.. not that I've done a TON, but two phones and 3 tablets, so I little ha..
Got my HTC One unlocked and rooted fine with the All-in-one tool, which worked good enough, but when I tried to get a ROM working is when I ran into issues.
I guess I'll tell the main issue first and then explain what happened..
Either only boots to bootloader/fastboot,
OR
Gets stuck on HTC logo and never leaves..
Am I screwed?
What I did that I think effed it...
After getting rooted and running, I tried to install RenovateROM_1.0...kept just randomly stopping and giving an error about "asset failed..." and just booted normally (no ROM)
I googled the hell out of that I tried editing the updater-script like I saw in so many places, and then I screwed up cause it was 3:30am and I was sick of trying.
I was gonna wipe the cache and data before I tried installing again, but I ended up wiping System in there and possibly Dalvik cache as well..
(I know that was stupid now!!!! Feel free to remind me haha..)
And now it's stuck.
If I try install a ROM, it says it completes, but won't boot past fastboot/bootloader.
If I re-flash my TWRP with fastboot, then reboot-bootloader, THEN reboot, it gets the HTC and stays.
Can someone please help me?
Thanks much in advance..
-Shaun
I did that too kinda (wiped everything on accident) Try to ADB sideload the Rom in the advanced options to TWRP otherwise you have to download the RUU and relock the phone up etc. And start over.

HTC One
Sprint HTC One
AT&T HTC One
T-Mobile HTC One
You may have flashed a rom for another variant do you have a link I didn't see that rom listed
Your right bigdaddy, shaun you flashed a gsm rom i'm guessing from the unbranded forum.
Download the ruu from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250904
boot your phone into bootloader and make sure your bootloader is in fastboot
extract that ruu file to somewhere you can find easily maybe the desktop
open your command prompt and navigate to your android sdk folder and run this fastboot command
fastboot oem lock
then after you've relocked the bootloader
run the command
fastboot oem rebootRUU
run the setup.exe from the ruu file and let it return you to stock

I found this link on the m7 forum is this what you flashed? if so this for the non-branded gsm htc one and not the cmda sprint htc one
it also looks like you flashed the renovate rom initial release, That dev is using svn to update nightlies. I'm guessing the "sprint support" is in one of those updates and not the initial release

good deal. Just remember to read everything before flashing. And if your unsure ask. I've had very minimal issues with flashing and changing settings but when I have its been totally my fault for not completely reading an op. if you flash and go back to read a step you've missed its usually too late.

Yeah dude, you're lucky that the international rom you flashed had asserts in it to check device type, or you might've had an actual paperweight on your hands. Stick to the Sprint forums next time.
Yeah I scared myself for sure.. even this morning activating it scared me a little cause normally use the DEC, but it said 'not a valid Sprint ESN', and the HEX
worked great.
Any ideas why that would be?

[Q] Accidentally installed GSM ROM on CDMA Sprint HTC One

A couple of days ago I thought it would be a GREAT idea to install a GSM ROM (Android Revolution HD) on my Sprint HTC One. I am now able to go into the recovery and flash a different ROM, but the ROM will boot up but shut down several seconds after reaching the home screen. I have been told that using an RUU might help, but will that work even if my computer doesn't recognize my phone as a USB device? All help is appreciated

Maybe you screwed your radio but i'm not sure this is the answer to your problems... To be able to run a RUU your pc MUST recognize your phone in fastboot mode.
I repaired a friends device that did the same thing. When it boots you will see a lock screen with no wallpaper and then it will shutdown.
An RUU is the ONLY way to fix it.

There's nothing special about an RUU, it's just a self extracting archive that uses fastboot to flash stuff.
It can be done by hand, such as with a nandroid backup.

Okay, I'll try to get my compooter to recognize it in fastboot (that's from the bootloader right?)

I repaired a friends device that did the same thing. When it boots you will see a lock screen with no wallpaper and then it will shutdown.
An RUU is the ONLY way to fix it.

You should explain how you fixed it here so everyone with that issue can check your method without opening thousands of threads about it

When I go into fastboot, my compooter makes that duh-doo sound for connecting a USB device, but it never shows up as a device on my computer that I can transfer files to. Is this normal and/or is this good enough for the RUU to work?

Yeah that's enough, run the RUU while your phone is in fastboot mode and you'll be ok

I've heard that there's no new version of the Sprint RUU or something, will whatever I have work for it anyway?

If you have S-OFF it will...
These instructions are for the Sprint variant only
You will need to be unlocked and have twrp installed for this to work (I'm posting this here because of my work schedule if you need further assistance PM back hopefully you and Matt can get it working )
1. Follow this guide Guide - Get s-off on 1.31 HTC One (Sprint) Update:
You will get a failed warning after issuing the echo blah blah command this is normal and nothing to be worried about and after the echo command type exit to exit the adb shell and continue.
2. Get the RUU here click the first link in the thread(extract it to your desktop/open it and click setup it will scan your device,go thru the various screens reading the warnings and checking the boxes, once it starts it will take 10-20 minutes to complete) once it's done you will be back to completely stock.
Optional:
Use revone to gain s-off (if you go with this option once you are s-off you won't need to use HTC-Dev to unlock your bootloader because revone does it for you) A sidenote about revone it will fail several times just press the UP arrow on your keyboard to issue the same command and press enter.Watch the cmd window for instructions to reboot and continue.
or flash a Sprint rom from the Sprint forum
Any other questions or concerns post here or PM me
Good Luck

All ROMs Crash Moments After Startup

Hi XDA,
I have an AT&T Vivid
- Original stock ROM: Android 2.3.4, HTC Sense 3.0, Kernel 2.6.35.13-gc1166ee
- Unlocked
- S-OFF
- TWRP 2.6.3.0
I've tried numerous ROMs from this forum, which other 'Vivid' users claim to work great, but every one of them crashes moments after loading. The ONLY one that works is my restore. I clear everything possible before any flash, and I've even wiped the internal clean with a total factory reset; still crashes.
The ROMs do load, and they run fine, only until I begin interacting with them. CM for instance will crash after I press "next" while selecting a default language for initial startup.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Please help

This doesn't sound familiar to me at all, but first you should search the forums on updating your ROM to ICS and updating your bootloader. I would also try flashing the boot.img from the ROM even though you're S-OFF, as it can't hurt.
Overstep setup wizard

Hi, I had a simmilar problem with my HTC vivid. I found fix of this problem you must to press left-top corner, then right-top corner, then bottom-right corner , and right-bottom corner. It automatically passes setup wizard.
Same here
sorry to bring this up again but i have the same problem.
Did you found a solution to this issue?
I found something strange, when the rom came up it only crashed after it vibrated the first time. If i lock the screen and unlock, it wont crash.

Have you updated the boot loader? There are threads with detailed instructions on how to do it. Not positive it will work, but we need to eliminate the possible first.

Hmm, your Hboot seems to be newer than mine. Mine is:
S-OFF
HBOOT-1.85.0025
MICROP-0360
OpenADSP-v02.6.0.2226.00.0202
eMMC-boot
Mar 1 2012,17:09:49
At this point I don't know why your roms are doing the funky monkey. I will post again in the future if I think of something though.
