Having read a lot of information regarding the bricking of this phone, i was confident of the way forward, gb - root - safe rom
however, my phone came today and to my horror i discovered the phone came with ics 4.0.3. It has kernel version 3.0.15-n7000xxlq2-cl605927 [email protected] #3
So my question is what are my options for rooting and custom rom?
thanks

First off I'd like to say I've read the majority of the stock threads and there was plenty of info there but i couldn't come to a conclusion on how to restore back to my original firmware.
This ROM uses the Abyss kernel and how would i go abouts restoring it?
I had originally a firmware that was directly rootable and i followed a video by cursed4eva to root it.
Please help with any suggestions

Thank you dr.ketan...one more question:-
Now I revert back to stock ROM 2.3.5 and rooted. If I flash it to N7000DXLA1_N7000OLBKL2_XSE.zip, do I need to root again? Is there any method which can remain rooted after flash to stock ROM 2.3.6?
Thank you.

Hi,
Thanks alot, its work and now I'm on 2.3.6 stock ROM with rooted but when I use mobile odin pro to flash it that time, there isn't an option for me to select the 'Inject CWM Manager'...so now need to install again.
Any idea why don't have that option? Could it be the version of mobile odin?
Thank you.

You can do that using zergrush exploit.. You can follow the instructions given in the stock rom thread by Dr. Ketan.

Hi,
I'm very sorry if asking the noob question here as I'm new to android world.
What do you mean "using zergrush exploit"? To root? If yes then I know what you mean but I already rooted my device and flash the stock ROM 2.3.6 using mobile odin pro.
I just want to know why the my mobile odin pro (2.30)does not have the option called 'Inject CWM Manager'?
Thank you.
See change log
It is removed from Newer version of Mobile Odin pro.

I didn't wipe my cache and now I am getting force close errors on the "Welcome to Android" screen after using ODIN to go back to stock ROM. What are my options now? The phone is unusable.
Help is much appreciated.

My flash counter is now at 0 and i'm on 4.0.4 kERNEL VERSION 3.0.15-n7000xxlrk-cl811902 [email protected] #3
build number IMM76D.XXLRK Official roms.
I would like to flash to the paranoid android rom, and would love some help. like should i flash to ginger bread [official or not?] than root than to the paranoid android rom? basically what is the safest way to proceed?
Thanks!

Flash latest Notecore kernel using pc odin, it will root and install cwm recovery as well, once you are on this safe kernel you can flash any custom rom via cwm recovery. No need to flash GB for this.
Note- you have to use triangle away to reset binary count after flashin custom kernel.
You can also follow flashing guide on your selected rom thread after flashin custom kernel.

For a clean install I would recommend you to first downgrade to GB then upgrade to PA. For shortcut use the above method mentioned by jeetu

You can flash stock gb for your region or the pre rooted one, from dr.ketan's thread. Both will work fine.

There is no difference if you go back to GB or do it from notecore or any safe kernel.
The objective is to perform a Safe Wipe.

Whenever you change the base like cm9 to ics then it is recommended to flash gb to be safe. But you can use shortcuts too like abyss or direct wipe and flash from cwm. The first way gives you full performance with extra juice. No fcs and sods.

Yes GB is definitely safe from Brick Bug.
You can downgrade to GB from ICS (I presume you are on ICS right now). But please follow to the point instructions given by Dr. Ketan for downgrade to pre-rooted GB ROM. The link can be obtained from his signature from the following thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801341
you are right but you can be safe on ICS too if you want to
depends how you want to use your Note
If you're rooted on ICS - Just flash a safe ICS Kernel;
Speedmod
NoteCore
HydraCore

I have GB stock rom 2.3.6 N7000JPLA1, and i want to root it, I read it is not directly rootable and must downgrade and root then upgrade.
So, is there any kernel to use that has root also in one step rather than downgrade, root then upgrade?
Follow this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
If you want to upgrade to ics then first update, b'coz rooting is easy on ICS.
Otherwise as said above follow that link

But I heard that speedmod kernel can be installed over GB and will make the root also, is this correct?
No, neither of ics kernel will work on gb rom

But i think speedmod k1 and k2 are for gb.Isn't it??
For GB there is abyss and Cf root kernel also there. I said ICS kernel won't work.
Fundamentally it has no meaning to raise counter just by using custom kernel for GB for getting root, If you want to update. Here OP suggest he wants update.
ultimately if you want to update to ICS, best way is to go clean with PC odin and ICS rooting will take just 5 min to root.
I have a stock GT-P1000, locked to Vodafone Portugal, with firmware 2.3.6, baseband P1000BUJQ1, kernel 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2 and the compilation number is GINGERBREAD.BUJQ3, can i root with CF-Root from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885734) ? which file should i choose ? if not, how can i root this device ?
still can't find any rooting method compatible with my setup, been searching google and xda, and everyday i have more doubts about this ... any ideas ?
if you want to consider an alternative that most people use: overcome method.
the links are in my signature.
It is a two step process and will wipe your tab;
Download from the links 4 things:
-Gb-stock-safe-v5
-the guide (PDF)
- overcome kernel tar
Jump to guide page 7
Follow the picture to flash GB-stock-safe rom
after that, follow the picture to flash overcome kernel tar
and you will have CWM recovery.
You won't have root yet, but using cwm you can flash ICS or JB roms.

thanks for you suggestion, i've already seen overcome kernel and some of your posts, but i think this kernel isn't the most adequate for me, because it has too many mods. i want a kernel that is as close to the original as possible, like CF-Root kernel. Besides, i still don't know if i can flash the overcome kernel on top of what i have ...
Can't help you much, sorry.
I don't even know how the kernel mods in overcome affect me when I was using it.
I just use it it a while before moving to red pill kernel.
Again, I don't know what mods were in that, just like the stability, speed, and battery consumption.
