[App][JB][MMS] Softbank/MMS/JB with Emoji - Nexus S Themes and Apps

Recently I've been so sick of GoSMS with its constant spamming messages and bloated features. It feels so clunky on phone so I'm desperate to search for an alternative that can work well on Softbank (the only reason I stayed with it is because it supports emoji and user agent string).
So I found this version of Mms.apk (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741152) that supports emoji and decided to modify the agent string to iPhone. The maximum image size allowed is 1024x768, and it seems to work well enough for me. I've heard bigger sizes may cause some problems.
I take no credit in this since the original file is Mms.apk, the procedure to decompile and compile, sign APK is posted all around the net.
This version only works on JB.

Has this been able to receive MMS fine?

Mms are working, but I receive blank messages if the sender is a gmail adress (html mail is not working then i guess?) any solution? (i have a galaxy s3)

zenithz, Thanks for making an emoji JB Mms.apk available. I've been looking around for one from Jellybean to port over to Softbank but you've already done it! I have a version done for ICS in my signature, if anyone finds that helpful.
Nekojitajp, having done a little bit of google searching, I believe the lack of HTML support is not a problem with the MMS apps; I think that the softbank MMS gateway strips HTML from incoming messages. If people want to send HTML messages to you, they need to use either a PC email address, or send it to an i.softbank.jp address, which does not strip HTML (and in fact functions identically to a PC email address, using IMAP).

installation trouble
I’m trying to get S’mail set up for my S3 but nothing has worked so far. I’ve tried everything on this form and then some but I get nothing. I can receive messages but I cannot send.
I have jelly bean installed and rooted. I have the black sim card and I’m using smile.world APN.

Hey, I have the cm10 custom MMS with quick reply and all the other jazz but the only thing that kinda annoys me is that they changed the emoji icons and I seem to have trouble receiving emojis. If I provide you with my MMS.apk would you be able to add your mods to it, or tell me how lol? Thanks

You can receive message but you cannot send? It seems more like your APN setting has some problems. If your MMS agent is incorrect, you can't even receive the message. I don't have an S3 so I can't tell much. Did you try GoSMS for once to see if it works? You can set MMS agent with GoSMS.

What do you mean to have trouble receiving emojis? If the icons are not what you want, you can unpack the APK and replace the icons as you'd please. You have to compile with appropriate framework, and I'm not on CM10 so I can't help you in this

SMS has nothing to do with this. You have to check the SMS center number to make sure it works. Also, if you send an SMS to a number outside softbank, it's not guaranteed to work

Ok thanks. there might be something wrong with the sim card itself. I put it back in my iphone and now that wont send sms messages. I'm going to see if they can replace my sim

The SMS center number is stored in the simcard, changing phone won't help.
Check yours with *#*#4635#*#*, phone information. You'll find the section about the gateway. Be careful not to click Update.
Click Refresh instead to check the current value. Soft bank's one should be
0791180966153900, it's PDU format. If the value is different, update it. If it still doesn't work then you should contact Softbank.

Can anyone build a 4.2.1 version of this, or point me towards how I can do it myself?
The proxy information is all there, but I need to change the user agent for Mms.apk to one of the user agents Softbank accepts. My understanding is I can pull Mms.apk using ADB, use apktool to pull it apart and edit mms_config.xml (or whatever it was called) to change the agent, but I have no idea how to repack it.

I've built one for 4.1.2 but not yet for 4.2. It's pretty eat to do UT yourself, though. As you said, you'll need to use Apktool, and edit the mms_config.xml file. After that you use apktool to repack the file, sign and zipalign it. You'll need the Android sdk. Check out my other posts for more info. Here and here.

MMS Configuration, HELP!

I have searched numerous times to find the solution, but to no avail. I am trying to set up my T-Mobile (US) MMS setting. Every thread explains that I need to click on the messaging tab and go to the MMS configuration tab. The only problem is that no MMS configuration tab or folder shows up in the messaging area. I have my e-mail, text, and new account options, NO MMS. I had it previously, but for some reason when I tried out Windows Messanger Live, it erased that folder and I cannot get it back to configure. Any help or a point in the right direction would be appreciated.

can you help me? i can't find solution. i need setting for MMS on Wizard with AKU 3.0 V2

I am on Cingular so can't really help with settings other than the information on TMobile's website contains an error that has been brought up in a couple of threads is that in an address that they tell you to put in one of the settings they have it posted like xxx.xxx.050.xxx and it won't work unless you enter it like xxx.xxx.50.xxx the extra zero is what seems to be causing issues for most people. Not sure exactly where this setting is, but it's either in GPRS or MMS setup somewhere.

Is it possible to add mms support

I did a quick search on this but couldn't find it. Anyway is it possible to add mms to your phone? I currently have to goto the providers website and view to photos and most time that site doesn't work. So i was just wondering if there is a way of adding this. I don't know much about this stuff so no need to point and laugh if it isn't possible.
well, yes. depends on your carrier.
it is telus
I realy don't understand your question.
The diamond has MMS support.
Are you asking for the settings for your provider?
TDO
ok so then whenever someone sends me a text with a picture or a video i have to log onto the website to view those pictures or videos. My question is just like most flip phones that get them sent directly to their phone is it possible to do that aswell with a smart phone. I only had this phone and a blackberry and they are both the same in that i have to log into the telus website to view any texts sent to me with media attached to them. also i have to email people my photos instead of just texting them which i also hate.
it will get directly to your phone if the mms settings are correct setup with the
settings from your provider
I had the same problem (using T-Mobile UK), all I got was a text message with a URL to T-Mobile's site.
To fix it, just send an MMS to yourself! For some reason, you need to send an MMS before you can receive one (at least that was the case with T-Mobile).
Try it and see if this fixes your problem.
yea for me it was the same,
i called tmobile why its so scarry, they told me that they need to know if your device supports MMS and the best way is to see an mms coming from your device so they can be sure that u are working on an mms enabled device.

Android MMS: How to send on Verizon (receiving still doesn't work)

I've figured out how to send MMS messages with Android on the Verizon network. Here's how:
Go to Settings -> Wireless Controls -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Android
Modify the following settings:
MMSC: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms?X-VZW-MDN=<your ten-digit phone number>
MMS proxy: leave empty
MMS port: 80
Please let me know if this works for you. Keep in mind that you must have a data connection open in order to send MMS.
As far as receiving messages, when a picture message comes in it properly receives the SMS, but it isn't recognized as an MMS message. It does however recognize that it's not a standard SMS so it doesn't go to your message inbox.
SENDING WORKS (for Verizon)

Telus
I've found some similar settings for Telus, but can't seem to make it work. If anyone wants to give it a shot, I've used the information here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392284
So far, the message just sits there trying to send. The settings I'm currently using are:
MMSC: http://mmsfeplb01.int.eng.telusmobility.com/mms
MMS proxy: http://216.198.139.113
MMS port: 8088
pchaso, how long does it take you to send an MMS? I'm just curious how long I should wait before I deem a message failed, because it never seems to error out, just sits there.
Will try this soon pchaso

K, so I'm guessing I need something similar to the "?X-VZW-MDN=<your ten-digit phone number>" portion of the verizon settings. Where'd you find this info? It sucks to be so close and yet so far...

When you configure Arcsoft MMS for Verizon, you have to add a registry entry so that Arcsoft knows to send this field. This entry will cause arcsoft to post this value as part of the HTTP request to the mms servlet. I just took a stab in the dark by putting the value in the querystring. I actually didn't expect it to work...

No dice.
Cool just sent a pic to my email and it worked
Kinda just thinking outloud but do you think that we would need a Verizon APN with Verizon specific settings to begin to recieve mms? or does it have to do with dzo's hacked sms settings?...
I think it has something to do with the CDMA SMS format being different to that of GSM. I wish I had time to do some hacking on this myself...
Now that the droid is out, is there any update on receive settings?
Anything new on android verizon mms? Tried the instructions in the first post but it didn't work for me.
Bump... add me to the list of people who want to receive!
Thanks all who help dev this stuff, Android has consumed countless hrs of my time : )
bumpity bump bump
I would really like some development in this area. It seems some settings/apn's could be pulled from the vzw droid. Bluetooth is now working, along with accurate gps. This is the only thing left to be fixed for donut to be completely functional for our vogues.
Nothing new? Sending still works...let's receive! LOL
Need help from you guys then (I don't have Verizon).
1. Make sure MMS sending really does work (send it to someone and ask them if they got it).
2. Get ADB (the command prompt tool) working on Windows (search the forum, there's clear instructions -- its easy)
3. Plug your phone into your computer so you can connect with ADB.
4. Open a command prompt and navigate to where ADB is.
5. Type 'adb shell logcat -b radio > radiolog.txt' (no ')
6. Send a SMS to yourself. Then send an MMS to yourself.
7. Wait a little bit to make sure the MMS notification message is "received". 2-3 minutes should be good.
8. Terminate the adb logging and send me the log at jnadke [email protected]_ gmail dot com (spam proofed)
A MMS is just an SMS (text message) with instructions to go download data. When you send MMS, the Mms.apk application uses POST command. Receive just uses the GET command. However, this isn't being triggered because I don't think we're correctly interpreting the SMS message that tells us there's an MMS waiting.
I'm making an assumption that we're receiving the MMS notification, and that its reception generates an AT command. It may not, I haven't looked at the SMS RIL code. It's possible I might need to give you a RIL that logs the raw SMS data, so I can compare a SMS message and a SMS-MMS notification message (to see if there's a flag somewhere).
The code is already there in Mms.apk to receive, we're just not telling it to...

MMS fix for boost mobile

Okay I may have a mms fix for boost, but it is in .cab format and I'm not sure how or if I can use it. any ideas will help.
APN Settings for MMS on Boost
I'm currently running Incubus26Jc's Super FroYo 2.2 [Deodexed] [RLS12] on my Vogue, on Boost Mobile's network, and I am able to send MMS by attaching picture files in text messaging. The only settings I changed were in the default APN:
MMSC: mm.myboostmobile.com (add http: and // in front. Since this is my first post I'm not allowed to post URLs )
MMS port: 80
No other changes to the APN settings are necessary to send MMS.
I'm pretty sure that it's impossible to receive an actual MMS on Boost's network. You will get the text message with a link to the Media Mail page (which never works, at least for me).

Can someone please help me? I used the mm.myboostmobile.com and get a 'error-permanent-system failure' when getting receiving pic mail but could send. Also, my hubby who uses a Boost BB gets a blank message. So I used pcs-boost-mmsc-submit.sun3.lightsurf.net. and I was able to not send media mail but receive it without any problems. I have an energy ROM and using the Arcsoft MMS version you have above. This is so ridiculous. Do I have to use mms program specially for my Sense Energy CRX ROM or what? I do not understand what's wrong with this? Is it because I have an Energy ROM?

Just keep waiting and testing it out, it's not device specific it appears to be network and location specific, read more here: "http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1721560-New-Boost-Mobile-MMS-Settings"
I haven't had a chance to dig my vogue out and try this, but I was thinking you guys might want to grap the mms.apk file from the shabbymod Rom for the Prevails and see if allows MMS texts to pass on through as normal.

now connect phone to pc and drop the apk file in the downloads folder or wherever u can find it dissconnect from pc
use the file explorer of ur phone navigate to downloads folder find the sqlite apk click it and install it
now go to playstore and download su by chainfire !!
open su let it update data base and choose instal normal mode
now open sqlite manager u just installed and click ok to the superuser prompt
at top of sqlite there is tabs hit the FILES tab
tap the folder named DATA
now scroll down you will find another folder named DATA tap that one now lol
now scroll down till you find COM.ANDRIOD.PROVIDERS.TELEPHONY OPEN THAT FOLDER
now click DATABASES folder
now click TELEPHONY.DB
now click CARRIERS
now you will see a layout of the installed setup apns scroll to the side till you see the box TYPE
YOU WILL NOTICE THE OTHERS SAY DEFAULT.MMS.SUPL.HIPRI,FOTA but the last one that u installed doesnt say that only default
tap and hold it and make it match the others by typing in DEFAULT,MMS,SUPL,HIPRI,FOTA back out
now you will notice one line of your new apn shows AUTH -1 tap and hold it and change that so its just 0 not -1
back out save reboot delete all mms msgs your were trying to send before if you have any unsent
go back to your apns under mobile networks and tap anyother apn and then tap the apn you made again now you should be able to send mms !!!

Nice glad you got a fix for it. Att shouldve already had an apn set thats weird
H2O MMS on LG Flex
Use H2O's new configuration tool to override the default APN. ( You don't need to unblock the device if its tied to ATT). Go to their site and under services you will find a link "Self Service Configuration"
The LG Flex model doesn't show up in the system, but you can select the Samsung Galaxy S5 Model and it will work.
Hope this helps. :good:
