Hello all
I have installed the 'got brickbug' app onto my 'note' today and it comes back with the message:
eMMC chip
type:VYL00M
CID:15010056594c30304d19bf535e873f5d
Revision: 0x19
Verdict:
DANGER ! This eMMC chip is *KNOWN* to have the brick bug !
I haven't rooted it or flashed another ROM onto it and quite frankly I'm not sure what to do?
Do I need to send it back to Samsung or how do I change the status of the eMMC chip to *SAFE* ?
What limitations are there with this Galaxy Note I have?
Can I do a 'factory reset' of the original stock rom thats installed by manufacturer?
Can I flash a custom ROM?
Can I root?
I don't want to brick it and have to send it back and wait weeks for it to be returned.
Thanks for reading.
Dont worry too much youre note is no different than the majority.
Advise not to factory reset on stock rom
Follow dr kretans root method for ics using pc odin. And once on safe kernel the risk is reduced so custom roms are ok.
You cant change the status yet as there is no fix

That info definitely warranted a new thread here .

So basically If I went to 'recovery mode' and chose 'wipe factory data / reset' ?
That simple basic task could brick the phone?
Unreal !

I had 0*19 which is danger same like you .but as long as you on safe kennel ( notecore or speed mod ) then you should be fine for wipe,reset,flash...etc....:victory:

The 0019 chip is pretty much in 90%.of devices, there's no cure as yet only prevention. Just don't wipe or restore nandroid under unsafe ics kernels as mentioned above.

So from what I understand is, that the factory original stock rom with the original embedded kernel plays a part in the bricking process, should it happen ?
To avoid that, flash with a 'safe' kernel:
(speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-11-Odin)
notecore kernel from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749863&highlight=notecore
What about the kernel from this link:
http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...cs-cyanogenmod-9-cm9-official-nightly-107611/
(hardcore-speedmod-ics-recovery-n7000)
Is the 'CWM'.zip safe to use from this link ?

Thanks :good:
nope cwm.zip is not safe.

Ok got that!
But all the kernels I mention are SAFE ??

Your apps and everthing will be as is. This is nonwipe ics stock rom. Be carefull if you decide to root it, there is a bug that will superbrick your phone if you fatory reset or recovery data wipe.
widgets will not stay as were. All other things (apps, contacts,...) will stay in phone

That advice applies whether you are rooted or not!
In fact, the only known 100% safe way to wipe the device one you are on a Samsung ICS build is to use a custom GB kernel, and you'd need to be rooted to flash that.

Dave

I understood that the brick problem only applies if your existing kernel is LPY ??

It is believed to apply to all Samsung ICS kernels for the Note.
Some kernels built from Samsung sources (e.g. Speedmod, Franco etc) apparently do not call the routine that causes the brick problem, but there is some anecdotal evidence of bricks on these too (could be unrelated of course).

i am quite confsed..
i am a developer from htc wildfire s forum..
i have my brother owning galaxy note..
i flashed the CM10 (unofficial ) on my device he was quite impressed with the JB in such a low end phone.. (htc wildfire s is armv 6 with only 600 mhz with no support for hd gaming.. not even temple run works on it )
so he said me to root his device.. n flash the CM10 rom in it..
so as the guide said i rooted the phone..
(i also installed mobile odin n triangle away from market )
then i googled n realised there is something called binary counter..
n then i also realised that many users are having problem in flashing the CWM. (its kernel dependent i guess,, n i dont know which one to use.. i flashed the hydracore v3 kernel)
so i am likke WTF how to back up the rom?
N now if i want to flash a rom i can do it with odin.. but then how will i revert back to my ICS(the current rom ie the stock rom ,)
can plz someone answer to my questions...
LONG story in Short :
1) how to backup (without increasing the counter)
2)How to restore backup without getting the device bricked.
Root device and flash safe kernel(e.g.Hydracore) with Mobile odin
(2nd link on my signature, use method 1 to root, and use mobile odin to flash safe kernel)
After flashing safe kernel you will have CWM advance recovery, which have backup/restore function

Check rooting guide in Dr.Ketan's sig, you will find all methods to root there.
In method 1 you have to root first and then you can flash custom kernel using mobile odin or pc odin (flashing custom kernel will also install cwmr)
method 2 is flashing custom kernel using pc odin it will root and flash cwm recovery too.

Proly when those thread were created, there was no safe ICS custom kernel, now we have lots of them, You can use Hydracore kernel. So basically as long as you are on any safe kernel, you can restore and backup using cwmr without any danger of brick (provided that you follow correct procedure, lol)

It depends on your requirement, I have tried almost all custom roms available for Note from CheckROm (GB) to PA CM10 and they are are too good. But I always prefer stock rom for long run (again personal choice). As of now using stock LR6 with mods.

Htc phone not too risky when come to flashing. But is more complicated and need more knowledge if compare to samsung phone.

Hi friends,
I'm a new GNote owner with CleaNote rom and Hydracore kernel installed.
I've heard that CleaNote will be discontinued and I'm seraching for a new Long Time Support (Yes I use Linux desktop computer ) rom.
I've selected Crash Rom, Criskelo and Rocket Rom. I don't know witch one to choose but I'm CF-Root oriented. Last thing, I'm not interested by GApps (various hubs and co) but I need Radio FM and I want to flash with CWM only (no Odin).
I've two questions :
- In your opinion, what of theese rom do have I to choose ? (or what else)
- I've seen in Crash install procedure that I have to flash Abyss kernel first. Is it a no-discuss option or can I do the install with a safe kernel like my Hydracore ?
Thank you for your help.

Hydracore is safe to flash any rom so no need to use abyss kennel ( abyss for flashing new rom only ),just follow op instruction but ignore abyss thing.
Phil kennel is like cf root but triple safe and both battery friendly ( can find in original dev) , hydracore is more performance and tripple safe too.Your choice
Criskelo discontinuous support his rom. Every rom are good , try out and see which one is fit your taste.
Hi,
You're perfectly clear, as your explainations, Thank you.
I think that I'll test every one for a week each before deciding.
Last question. For install between these roms, do I need to to a reset factory (and say bye to my apps) or can I try a simple dalvik/cache wipe ?

Try first without factory reset and if you don't run into force closes---you're good !
If you do.....you have to factory reset.
But you can backup your apps using Titanium Backup and restore all non-system apps(i.e. user apps).I do this regularly...Saves me the trouble of reinstalling that crapload of games !
I'll try... I'll try.
But anyway, I've no game on my note except a Klondike....:good:

Recommend full wipe on every rom , this will save you alot problem later and take about 30 min to do.. you can use tt back up your app or manually install 1 by 1 take little longer but this method really good.. Enjoy
Ok. Thank you. I'll be a cool and patient guy... and I'll make Titanium Backup hot.
But, for my curiosity, what do I risk with no wipe between : bootloop ? brick ? nuclear explosion ? anything else ?

Hello there XDA.
First I would like to apologize if this has already been answered. I searched for the past 3 hours but did not find anything that would fully answer my questions.
So I have a Samsung GT-N7000 Galaxy Note running the stock 4.1.2 LT4 ROM (rooted). The device is unbranded and bought from Germany. Because it lags horribly everywhere, I want to get ICS and the old TouchWiz back, so I decided to downgrade to the latest ICS ROM that has TouchWiz 4, and, after searching, I found that it is N7000XXLRK.
These are my questions:
- what do I have to do to fully wipe the phone before I downgrade to N7000XXLRK, therefore completely removing any traces of older ROMs, in order to do a clean install? Do I have to use some option in PC Odin? Maybe wipe some partitions in Recovery (I have installed PhilZ CWM for LT4)? Cache, data, system, or maybe some others, too?
- what partitions are safe to wipe from CWM and what are not?
- what else should I do to ensure that the new ROM works properly?
- is there anything that needs to be backup-ed, aside from apps (I use TitaniumBackup for that) and all files on the sdcard and external_sd partitions?
I mention that before LT4 I had all Stock 2.3 ROMs, all Stock ICS ROMs 2 AllianceROMs and 3 leaked Jelly Bean ROMs.
Thanks in advance.
See friend... this is Easy, I think as you are on xxlt4 u must be running philz, c.o.h or speedmod//??.. if yes, boot to recovery and go to mount and storage option and then format everything... after that.. go to the bootloader, VOLdown+home+Power.. and then directly flash your ICS ROM, this would be a perfect clean install!!!
hit- THanks please

Hello NoteboyTech.
All right. Thanks for the answer. I will try it. Yes, I am on official XXLT4 with PhilZ CWM, but no custom kernel.
P.S. Have you or anybody else tested this before? I may be a little paranoid but I am afraid not to brick my device, as I have read that some users were unable to use the phone function after formatting /efs or /boot in CWM.

Dear all XDA Developers
i have samsung galaxy note n7000, after we got the official JB update the device went to be so slow, so i choosed to downgrade it to ICS and i download the sogtware image from (www.samsung-updates.com) as i told it should be official software images.
and i downloaded the ODIN v3.09 for pc, connect the phone and install, it fiinished successfully, AFTER that i start to got the error, the phone shutdown suddenley and got the screen said "RST_STAT 0x2000000 User Fault, not kernel panic, upload mode"
i tried to install again and still have the same error the it is random no specific time, then i download and install the Philz and wipe the phone as for install a new ROM and install the same image then got the same error after two days.
my request is how to solve this problem and where to download an official ICS for my GT-N7000
i hope to find the solution here in XDA developers
best regards
No one can help??!!!!
Is this issue so difficult and there is no solution or any idea about solving it??
It depends on how you choose. Going your path back to official ics could be problematic. So i would just go forward install a custom jb rom such as Aryamod then the problem is solved and u will have a beautiful and fast rom. Done.

1stly, After getting JB update from OTA, it's recommended to do a factory wipe in stock recovery (This is what Samsung CS told me). I tried and it works (at the expense of having all my data n apps gone).
2nd, Like @forest1971 says, there's many good custom Roms And you can choose per your liking. I strongly oppose going back to ICS as of the brick bug threat. If you really want to downgrade, might as well go for GB.
3rd, WHAT is the point of our good Dev's spending their precious time and cracking their heads to come up with a custom rom IF they are not BETTER than Stock roms?

Installing through odin is the best method for flashing stock rom. You have done it right. Just remember NEVER to do a factory reset anywhere with ICS. Not even in recovery
