I have a Droid 4 provided through work that I can't root, but would like to upgrade to ICS. If I upgrade using the RSDLite, will I keep my data? I don't have anything I can't replace except for the login for my Google Apps account.
I'm pretty sure you will be good to go. I tried doing sbf from .217 and didn't lose anything. Let us know how it goes!

you could also download the leak .217 and apply it from an external sdcard

I don't have an SD card, unfortunately.
@danifunker I'm still on GB's 6.13.219, so I'm not sure if going from that to ICS' 6.16.217 will break things if I don't wipe data. I'm kinda hoping someone else goes first. Others may be able to root and make a backup while I'm not allowed.

There seems to be a new leak that is available for the bionic. It mainly addresses updating the radios (baseband, 4G, WiFi). Check it out.
Nice. Anyone give it a shot yet?
I'm using it now. Good performance, no obvious differences so far...

24 hours later everything is running smooth. Slightly better data and battery than normal. No downsides so far. I will be providing updates regularly.
If you install it what is the impact when switching to Eclipse?
Everytime i try to install it via stock recovery, it says and not verify signature?

The update should not affect your data, meaning safe strap should already be installed. Just to be safe, run the safe strap app and verify. If you have root with forever root, you should be good to go, otherwise you may need to re root.
You should verify before doing anything that eclipse actually works with 904 before going there, but yeah, after all is said and done, you'll need to reinstall eclipse.

does anyone have a non corrupted .902 I can flash?
Every one Ive tried has failed saying that some files are missing or the download link is dead
Made it to 904 fine. Problem came up while trying to reinstall eclipse.
apparently safestrap still had a file somewhere on my phone that WOULD NOT let me install anything to establish a safe mode.
It kept giving me a /data error
Thanks in Advance

Yep that did it. But quick note..........I wasn't able to get the full dl in chrome, had to switch to IE

Also has anyone flashed the beats zip on this with success?
You must apply this patch to stock, unmodified system (rooted is ok). If you are running safestrap you need to switch to unsafe system before proceeding. If you installed a custom ROM using bootstrap, you need to restore stock (not worth your time for this update IMO).
Unsafe. Safe is the one where we can install custom ROMs....

You probably aren't stock 'enough'. Did you remove anything, or customize something?
Anybody able to flash beats on this? I did it once using safestrap and ended up at a black screen
Took my bionic out of the drawer and put my active SIM in.
I flashed this (no factory reset or wipe)... Once it finished booting up, it started bringing down app updates (about 15 since I had the Bionic off for so long), and within 15 min, I lost the blue 3G with 4 bars lit (RSSI -72dbm CDMA eHRPD), and had just 3 white bars no "G's"... and a pop-up saying "no internet connection"... after about 10 min, I got a white 3G with 4 bars (I didn't check RSSI), and another few minutes, the 3G turned blue and started downloading again.
If I get another data drop, I'll likely WIPE the phone and try again. but with 88 apps installed, wiping, reloading apps, etc... isn't something I want to do right away.
My bionic and TB are setup exactly the same way, with the same apps (except Go Contacts EX on the Bionic, which isn't on the TB)... The TB still hasn't exhibited these data drops the Bionic has. If I wipe the Bionic, I'll probably switch back to the TB while I do it and re-configure it.
Surprisingly for me, my data has been rock solid since updating to. 904
O and beats audio works. The issue was with safestrap
I went back to stock using motox toolkit and then I installed recovery...I want to stay at stock but I want to install update which I downloaded zip....How do I install zip In recovery are there any
Option for updating phone in twrp2.6.3.1 or do I just flash zip as normal

At first you need to extract your zip file. then you can install it...
The OTA update file is downloads folder...so I extract the update file in downloads folder and then go in recovery and install it...

An update.zip, an OTA, is installed as is, usually from stock recovery.
I tried to install zip through recovery but it says failed....I read in android forums that there would be an option saying UPDATE FROM SD CARD but couldn't find in recovery twrp2.6.3.1 ...

On my xt907 root had to be hidden too. Not sure of the X but pretty sure it is same.
---------- Post added at 12:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:39 PM ----------
If unlocked, There use recovery tools to flash the stock recovery.img you should find around here. Then hide root. Of course you need all bloat put back too
---------- Post added at 12:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:46 PM ----------
If not unlocked then you must disable & uninstall SS, at least the xt907 needed it.

Sorry. On the X, ota update zip files can only be installed via stock recovery. They can not be installed via twrp, cwm, or such.
So I unroot the device and then update to latest KitKat version and then root ITT..?

K. First, your boot loader IS unlocked? Correct?
If so....
The easiest thing to do if you're trying to update to 4.4.2 is to flash the firmware you are currently on, from fastboot or with rsdlite. This will put you completely stock, ROM and recovery if you do it correctly. Then when you boot into the system, it will ask you to update through ota. Do that and install. Done.
Then you can root again.
If you indeed have an unlocked boot loader that is.
Just use the guide in the link already posted above. "Return to stock"
Or check the rsdlite thread and do it that way.
You might want to backup apps and data and move it to a PC first. If you care to.

You can try to flash the stock recovery and then get the ota...but other root changes you may have made will make it fail also.

I"ve been playing around with the droid 3, installing custom roms (using safestrap), and enabling the 1900 band. (I actually put in a t-mobile sim card for the test, and it worked great.)
After I put back the original Verizon radion img, (and replaced the config.prop, and reactivated), although voice and data are working, 3g data isn't working at all, and the compass doesn't work.
Anyone have any clue why that's happening? Or do I just have to flash a sbf and reroot (or maybe I won't reroot.)
I'm not sure myself why it happened, but, if I were you, I'd just SBF and restart from scratch. Do you have the files you need for this?

Thanks. I think I might resort to that, but then it's going to be a big deal to restore all my apps and data. I did do a nanadroid backup with safestrap before I did the hack, but restoring only fixed the gps, not the 3g, so I reverted it.

With Motorola devices with a locked bootloader, the nandroid backup will not restore kernels or baseband.

My wife gave me her old droid 4. She had a problem with the sim card, and after a few trips to the verizon store they just said ok get a new phone. So i have this droid 4 just sitting here. When i turn it on its been wiped and wants to setup the phone. My question is from this state can it be rooted and loaded with a custom rom to just be more like a tablet for the kids or is it just a paperweight at this point?
Everything i read so far says in order to root the phone i have to do at least make sure the phone is in debugging mode, well since you cant even get to that from a normal boot up im wondering what the other options are. I tried using recovery to load things, but that just fails, and i got the droid dev kit to use adb, and that only will sideload an image, which also fails upon verification.
Any help would be awesome

You sir are a saint and genius rolled into one! was about to goto sleep but now i gotta run upstairs and try this!!!
[
I was running gingerbread 2.3.6 on my Droid 4 and decided I wanted access to Chrome and to update my baseband, so I used the Droid 4 Utility (Jellybean) to update to JB stock (wipe data). Upon reboot my display is all corrupted with a black and white checkerboard on the bottom. The CRT power-off animation is also really slow, and I noticed inside of moto recovery while wiping my user partitions I no longer have a progress bar, only a dashed line. The phone was working for a month on Gingerbread fine, so what could have caused this new issue? I have already reflashed again with droid4 utility and tried doing a factory reset. I am a noob and don't know how the "drivers" work for the display. Thanks.
Mods please leave this post in case someone else encounters this issue, but,
I solved it!
Apparently the Droid 4 Jellybean utility does not flash something correctly. It could be because I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit, or some other reason. I did verify the md5 of the zip and I verified the integrity of the unzipped files as well. It is a real noodle scratcher as to why it did not work. I did not notice it before but in addition to the graphical glitches my phone would also NOT TURN OFF. It was crazy.
Anyhow,
The solution to this issue (at least in my case) was to use RSDLite 5.7 and follow the tutorial here:
http://www.droidforums.net/threads/...a-droid-4-xt894-to-stock-windows-only.206972/
After going through that I am back up and running again. It is strange because my bootloader is 0A.77 just as before, and all the version information in Settings>About is the same. I hope I can help someone having the same issue. Good luck everyone.
Sometimes flashing fails, for no known reason.

Rsd lite flashes differently than the d4 utility.
RSD lite flashes more precisely but more likely to fail.
