gingerdx 28b-stock-help to overclock - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi. why i can't set my cpu ?
i read few instructions in this forum (my phone restart loop and break the rom in this instruction http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1020313&highlight=x8oc please help me

I've found that adding "insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko # x8oc.ko" in hw works. Try that out and reboot. I also use an app (setcpu) for ocing. Give that a shot.
Edit: and don't oc all the way to 800+.. my phone's fast and stable at 710mhz...

i install setspu. but still in 600 and no more 600.
i take a screen shot for u :victory:

1. Did you push x8oc.ko to /system/lib/modules?
2. If it's a zip file, did you extract it first?
3. did you enter "insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko # x8oc.ko" in hw_config and save it?
4. Check again as a simple typo will cause it to not work.
5. Did you reboot or at least enter "insmod /system/lib/modules/x8oc.ko" as su in terminal?
6. Did you use setcpu's detect settings?
I'm guessing it's either a zip file you didn't extract first, or there's a typo in hw.

I see. Well honestly using xrecov or cwm for that zip never worked for me. So just do it manually.
Just extract x8oc.ko found in that file using an app like root explorer and move it to /system/lib/modules. Then enter the line i mentioned in hw_config. Reboot and you're good to go.

Try it out and tell us =)
But looks very good. One thing I was missing since switching from symbian.
We need a Compiz cube for the home screens and app menu. :|
It looks awesome but then u realize its just slowing your experience.
Regardless, have you tried just decompiling framework-res and pushing the anim folder ?
Lol I thought if someone else tried it out it would be great, I don't have a nandroid backup atm and it takes long

Nandroid backup ?
All you do is
1. Get Apk Manager
2. Decompile framework-res
3. copy the anim folder over
4. compile the apk (say yes to system, say yes to keep folder thing), delete resources.arsc and the anim folder
5. Push to your phone and reboot
Recovery plan :
1. Go into recovery
2. Push framework-res to /tmp
3. Adb shell. su. cp /tmp/framework-res.apk /system/framework/
Done

[Q] Hashcode's SafeStrap and the XT883

hey guys, before submitting a bug to Hash i wanted to ask here if anyone tested this yet and made the same experience as i did: SafeStrap 1.08 is not fully compatible with the XT883.
Backups are not working because \system can't be mounted.
anyone can confirm this?
It's a known issue. If you're feeling brave, you can try my modified (and slightly older, now) version of SafeStrap that'll nandroid backup my ME863, and will probably nandroid backup your XT883 as well.

I'm using the xt883 radio.img and a tweaked build.prop on the xt862 and can't back-up using SafeStrap.

So, I was trying to swap out my 2nd-init.zip recovery file with the one from the thread you posted. I'm trying to use file browsers to move the altered 2nd-init.zip file into /etc/safestrap and it won't work no matter the app I use. Is there a particular app/method I should be using here for this last step?
Thanks. Forgive the noob.

you need to place the recovery file into the original 2nd-init.zip. backup the original file and check the permissions of the new file. you need to do this after succesful installation of the recovery of course

I copied the 2nd-init.zip to my computer and unzipped it just fine. I put the tweaked recovery file in the folder and rezipped it. I just can't get it back into the /etc/Safestrap folder because root browser says it failed. I checked permissions on every folder in the path (including /system) and user has write permissions on each one, so I don't see how that could be a problem. I'm not allowed, for some reason, to make any changes to /etc/Safestrap except I can extract the 2nd-init.zip to my SD card, which is how I got the copy I tweaked and am now trying to replace back on the device.
If anyone can tell me what they did to put the tweaked 2nd-init.zip back into /etc/Safestrap, that would be helpful.
Thanks.

Well, just tried it using Root Browser and Script Manager, both of which I find to be very capable file browsers, and it didn't work. It's just not letting me make any changes to the folder /etc/Safestrap. It allowed me to extract the 2nd-init.zip out of that folder, but won't allow me to zip or unzip anything into it. I'll keep playing with it and update if anything changes.
Otherwise, I'll just wait till I no longer need the xt883 radio.img to back up and flash ROMs.

/etc is a symlink to /system/etc which is read only. In a terminal emulator run the command:
busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
Then try moving the files to /etc /safestrap

Ok, so I got Root Browser to move the original 2nd-init.zip to my sd card and placed the tweaked one in /system/etc/Safestrap successfully, but then Safestrap wouldn't get past the splash screen. I swapped back to the original one and it still wouldn't boot into recovery. Just the splash screen with option to start system or press menu button to go into recovery. I pressed menu and the screen stayed black both times.
Oh well, I'm not in a hurry to flash ROMs or get a backup, so I uninstalled Safestrap for now and will try again when I no longer need the xt883 radio.img.

You don't NEED to change it back, it will automatically on next boot, if you felt the need run the same command but switch rw to ro.

is it possible to restore stock apps in galaxy ote n7000 without resettind it...??
Yes you need root and a tool like root explorer. Just take apks out of rom and place in system apps.
Check that they have same permissions as other apps, rw and such and click them to install. Not sure if they install themselves with a reboot.

How you set the permissions? Post a ss if you can.

Ok, download rom you want to restore from, usually a zip file, unzip it. Then with root explorer navigate to tar. Md5 file and open it, you might need to rename to tar file only, then within that search for a fokder that contains the apk you want, extract them, or copy them outside tar file then to your system app location etc etc

Just keep file pressed when selecting, then menu opsbup and scroll in menu to option permissions. Then select those according to permissions set inother files.
All this in root explorer. Not sure if a fix permissions from cwm recovery fixes this. Never tested it.

I'll teach you how to fish instead of giving it to you.
There is a website called google.com type your query there, together with e.g android, or xda or both, and youre sure to find your answers to almost any question.
Might need to query with different phrases or order of words, sometimes in steps.
Thats how I figured out last time. Sorry I wasnt able to answer stepwise step for step. maybe you make a tutorial with print screens, for future users that have same question

Sign an APK for me..

Hi friends i've modified contact.apk but i dont know how to sign it. I will be thankfull if someone can do it for me...
Wrong section man, please use: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1480
signing is easy than modifying
You do not need to sign it, it is a system app and you cannot install it. Just make a flashable zip and flash it via CWM. If you do not have root, you are out of luck.

Download the zip in the attachment, open it with 7Zip/Winrar whatever you use, put your Contacts.apk in the system/app folder (watch for the case, the names are case sensitive) and the save the zip. Put it on your SD card, reboot to recovery and flash.
