So about a week ago I tried to flash the alpha honeycomb rom. Played around with it a bit, but since Im in India I need my Tab to make calls via wifi back to the states, so I restored back to just before the flash. Then I saw there was a new build of Koush's kernal so I flashed that. About 3 days ago I started getting a weird wifi modem error and I would have to reboot to get wifi back. I just thought at first it was because the internet at my hotel isnt exactly amazing, and maybe i was building up a cache somehow? Honestly didnt really have a clue, but I didnt really care. Last night it got strange tho, I suddenly only had .90 mb of internal storage. I couldnt do anything because i had 0 space. So I deleted a few apps as fast as I could and used titanium to move everything else to the SD. I rebooted into cwm and wiped the cache, dalvik cahce, and even factory reset to no avail. then I downloaded the newest Koush rom thinking that if I just flashed another rom Id be fine because it would repartition and start fresh. Apparently not so much. I just bootlooped at the Verizon screen somehow. So again, thinking i knew what I was doing, tried to restore. Nooooothing again. Then I had to go to work so I got a buddys laptop and rebooted into download mode, installed heimdall on the pc and proceeded to try to flash the stock files from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955342&highlight=vzw ... thought all would be well, but I got an error saying descriptor not found. So i reinstalled the driver thinking that was the error I got. Tried again and got an error -12. So i unplugged to see if I could do aaannnything in cwm... and my screen did this... has anyone seen this or know how screwed I am?? Im in Mumbai for 12 more days and I think Ive had the tab for about 2.5-3 months so far... kinda screwed huh?
Don't worry!

If u using GSM tab, I think I can help
Your case seem the stock rom u mentioned is not a full set rom with modem and phone, try to unzip the rom,is there dbdata.rfs? the icon only mean software brick which will back to life easily.
sadly im using cdma
Dude calm down. Thats an alternative download mode. Find a cdma stock firmware that you had search around for it. follow the guide of reflashing and you should be up and running again
Have a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=967175
This is the one that worked for me. Good luck!
So why have you posted in this forum?

so I made an attempt to flash the stock files. Hiemdall said it worked, but the progress bar on the tab never went past about halfway, overnight. Now it wont show that download screen unless its plugged into a power source and it turns itself off randomly then immediately turns back on into the download screen and does that process repeatedly. If I plug into the pc it is unresponsive and then turns off after a few min WTF did I dooooo?!?!

If you plug into a power source, without trying to turn your Tab on, do you get a battery icon?
Sounds like your battery is dead, in which case, if you can get it to charge you may yet be able to reflash...
Try letting it charge for at least a few hours and then take another crack at flashing.

Because im sick of seeing non-dev posts in the dev section. Its irritating to see and baffling how anybody could not have enough common sense to realise that posting stuff like this in here is wrong, We have a Q&A and Gen forum for that.
Because there doesn't seem to be any active Tab mods here to move/move, the only way make the users who make the posts in here aware is to tell them. If they are not made aware they will post their next topic here.
If nobody else is prepared to make them aware and to try and cut the crap down, I will, and don't care what you think.
when i had the origional error that you had it was because i tried flashing a kernel via heimdell on a virtual machine. i had the same screen, when i got to work the next day with a laptop that was windows i just booted into download mode and flashed a working kernel and it booted right up.

I agree that the forums need clearing. But you ploughing into every single misplaced thread isn't going to help.
You do realise you can tell the op that this isn't the right forum AND help them and point them in the right direction. Doesn't sound too hard right? Maybe try it sometime.

And I do!
The point is that the help/advice had already been given on this one but nobody made the Op aware that he/she had posted in wrong place so would have likely done same again next time.
If nobody tells them how will they know? (apart from the obvious, ie reading forum titles.)

I posted here because in other forums the general is mostly for those who have not rooted, and also have not flashed. In most cases people that know what theyre doing tend to only frequent the Dev sections, between that and the fact that all of my issues came from posts in the Dev section I thought this would be the correct place for it. apparently I am wrong, and sooo thankful that someone as heroic as yourself has stepped up to do away useless threads since we obviously have a space limit in our forum. wouldnt want to bog down our servers with my useless post of course...
regardless of the flaming and trolling... im still screwed, my post isnt moving and i will continue to ask those that know for help. thanks for the advice though, ill take it into consideration for my next post... now run along...
I have charged for about 9 hours now and still nothing could i have fried it somehow? If I bring it to verizon in the state its in, is there anyway for them to tell i flashed it? or will they just assume i did since it is pretty much in a state of brickiness as far as i can tell...
TIA and thanks to those whos British bigotry hasnt stood in the way of reading my post and attempting to lend a hand... where i come from the main purpose of a forum is to ask those who know for help and share the knowledge weve attained...
and im not getting a battery icon when i plug in, just the flashing on and off of the alternate download screen
thanks again
Ok to put this at rest coz its getting irritating. You are active old users. And you believe that tab needs more forum modding. I dunno what are the rules but when applying for a mod positions open apply or root for a candidate like yourself or nautious or bytork or anyone.
As for op does your tab get identified by your computer in odin or heimdell? As i said thats an alternate download mode. If computer identifies it. You can get a shot at flashing. Do it via a windows computer please. If tab is fried beyond repair which i doubt verizon will never know you flashed unless you tell them of course
sadly as of now the tab isnt read by the comp and i cant keep it in the download mode unless its plugged in
hey guys i searched and havent really found anything that matched quite what i had going on so here we go... I was 95 percent through flashing the ICS rom it got through the hboot section and rebooted.. on the screen i saw two arrows in circular form above a phone .. and something was definitely being downloaded.. then the phone went black, doesnt go into hboot, doesnt a charging light when plugged in , but is picked up by the computer, ie. connection noise. Im in no way a noob at flashing roms , but something is definitely wrong with my phone.. Any ideas? It was charged full battery by the way.. it does glow in a dull light when i push volume down and power, or power alone...
Your phone indeed seems to be bricked. The identification noise from the computer may just mean that your USB is receiving power from the battery.
When my friend had a similar problem with his Amaze, he went to the HTC service center and they replaced his phone after keeping it for 4 days
So taking it to bestbuy to get it serviced is probably the only alternative, since its insured through them... lol just my luck

That's not fair to say. There's plenty of users that flashed without bricking their devices.
I followed the alternate directions here and had no issues.

Not sure why you keep posting it's not safe. I think I've seen like 3 people who've screwed it up out of probably 100+ installs. PirateGhost has released an ICS RUU which is completely noob proof so even unrooted users can get some ICS love before the OTA update.
As far as im concerned each one of us is responsible for what happens to our phones, warnings are put for a reason.. ive jailbroken, rooted the hardest of phones .. it was just my time for the inevitable to happen. I get my phone back in three days and you can be sure ill be back here again doing crazy rooty stuff to my phone no rom or dev should be held responsible for what ive done ..

Saying something is noob proof will inevitably prove that some where some noob will sow its not noob proof. I'll admit there were a few moments of panic when I flashed the zip method pg released. When that happened I just breathed deep and took my time and everything worked great in the end. I personally feel that what the devs have put out there is fairly safe as long as the directions are followed exactly.

I don't have the money to buy tons of new devices....its about knowing ur own limitations...do not criticise a devs hard work when it is proven to work...no its defenitly not idiot proof but it is very easy...I've done it to 3 phones already with no problems...the devs are not responsible for bricked phones

yea i must say it was a hundreed percent my fault in bricking my device so im not mad at anyone..and as far as the money goes its not a super big deal..i always make more o and btw im gonna be getting my replacement today and im gonna try this all again aft6er reading everything again and again and agian o and again lol
So, the phone is bricked. I have the same problem as the OP. I Lost access to Hboot while flashing ICS. I accidently sent it to recovery after Hboot update...and it never recovered LOL. Anyone know a good de-bricking service or know how much it will cost if I send it back to HTC or AT&t to fix it? I bought mine at the AT&T store, so no protection plan. I'm gonna get another device anyway (from Best Buy this time), but it would be great to have the Vivid back as a backup.
I bricked my phone Sunday night, still not 100% sure what I did wrong but it did what yours is doing now. I simply called the AT&T exchange by mail and used the factory warranty. Granted I guess there is a slight chance they could find out it was rooted (if they can somehow get it to recover or even turn on) but it got me a replacement... Food for thought.
Btw I got the new one and used the RUU and it worked seamlessly.

I did the same thing, selected recovery right after successful HBoot update. Then afterwards, each and every restart shows searching sd card with a black background. After several attempts of pulling battery, reinsert and power button + vol down, I was able to get back into HBoot. From there I immediately flash recovery through fastboot and now am happily on ICS.
If you did the same and phone boots up with the searching sd screen, there is a shot of bring it back.

Fraid it doesn't search for anything. I posted in the threads and tried everything I could think of and everything that was suggested. Though there isn't much you can do besides keep removing the battery and trying vol dn + pwr. Just a black screen.
Just a few things I tried (removed battery each time)- vol down + power (no sd card in) = blank black screen
vol down + power (with sd card and PH39IMG file) = blank black screen
vol down + power > boots to blank black screen, wait few seconds > press power button (like I'm going to fastboot) > plug into computer > type fastboot command into command prompt = command prompt says waiting for device
I always read the directions and threads a bunch of times before doing anything. Did lots of reading, google-ing, and searching. Fraid it bit the dust. I appreciate the help though. This is the first device snafu I've had. I've never had to send a phone in for any kind of warrantee work before. Hence my question above about getting it fixed.
Just in case, if it were to boot to that screen, what would I want to do? Just the PH39IMG? Or is there some other procedure?

Who TOLD you to flash the phone??? When I got my first android phone, a Samsung Fascinate, I LOVED the phone but nervous AS HELL that I would brick the phone. And I read, and read, and REREAD, trying to make sure I understood everything so that when I went looking for help, I at least could say, "Yes, I already tried this, this, and this".
I think the key thing to all of this is in two-fold - one, as someone stated before, this is a developer's forum. If you work on your car, and forgot to put oil in it, are you going to blame your mechanic? If you change your brakes and did not do something correctly, causing an accident, are you going to blame the car manufacturer??? Two, it states in MANY places, before you post, READ, READ, READ. It was actually ADVISED to NOT FLASH this ROM...
From this point forward, it almost seems as if there needs to be a waiver release to download roms, stating you will not ridicule nor torment the developers. And though I had heard about it but never seen it before, as I am on my 4th Android phone, there definitely are a few VERY NOTICEABLE disrespectful and ungrateful individuals in this forum. If you were my kid, and acted like that to me for something I GAVE YOU, I would do the same as PG - TAKE IT WAY and forget you.
Hi Guys

Hi,
your answer is here!. Seems to be a hardware short circuit.
maybe putting your open device close to a warm source to dry it will give you 15.031969% to save it...
Else, I fear you need Samsung service..
I don't mean to be rude but why did you open a thread here on XDA about this?
This site is for mobile phone/tablet development.
You have bought a faulty device, it happens.
You need to take it back for a replacement, simple.
I hope you get it sorted! It's never nice buying something and it not working properly.

i believe it got something to do with calibration or something related to software
as phone was flashed earlier and it might be something to do with flashing
i was thinking of writing NV calibration data from another phone to see if that may help, but thought of getting more ideas first.

Oh right, fair enough then. I thought it was brand new and you'd just taken it out of the box.

as good as new, only a few days used, sending it back would be costly
so i thought to get some ideas if it could be calibration data or something, as i have already flashed it but it didn't yield any result..

Could be many things... hard to say without any information.
Imagine if you call a car mechanics and you tell him ''I want to buy a car with an engine that randomly stops, could this be easy to fix or not?''
Then, he would probably ask you:
What you (or last owner) did with the car (phone) before it broke?
What car (phone variant) is it exactly? (fastboot getvar all)
What engine model inside that car (what rom)?
Any modification on the car (phone)? Root, unlocked booltoader, s-off, kernel?
And why would you want to buy a defective car (phone)?

So what your saying is that it's a gamble or a shot in the dark... I'll ask the seller a few of the questions and see what the reply is. If it's software, could I fix it myself or would I need to send it to HTC (wouldn't buy the phone then).
Thanks for the help though :good:

Yes this is a shot in the dark. Most software issue can be solved. There are some exceptions. Better to stay away from that device. If it would be an easy fix, that guy would probably have fixed it himself instead of selling it.

I did get a message back, just start to happen randomly in the morning, never been rooted, had a ROM flashed, s-off or tampered with...
They have said that they doesn't have the knowledge to install "new software" to the phone. I don't think they do know a great deal then?
What would be a good offer (In pounds)? I am looking for a new phone anyway but if it isn't a fixer upper then I'll re-sell it.

Sounds like your easy to con,
I could put you in touch with quite a few people, they have loads of stuff they want to get rid off..
Seriously, we hear this in XDA forums all the time..
" I bought it new, never touched it and somehow its suddenly found itself rooted. Help I've got to get it back to stock for warranty ". Tell him you will try it out for a few hours.
So before you get it. Install HTC sync, then uninstall it. The drivers will remain. Download adb and fastboot. Put them all in a folder on your desktop. In the mean time read all the guides on HTC but mostly Q&As. By the time you get it, you may be able to sort it out all by yourself.

It is around 7 months old though (forgot to include that) Also, I still haven't bought it yet as I am still thinking whether to or not as it could indeed be a con or unfixable....
Hi guys,
After a couple of weeks trying to solve my problem, I couldn't help but submit it to you all. What a shame!
I received an old HTC one m7 by a friend who is so rich he can afford to give away such a smartphone he gave up using it since he has a problem a few months since he bought it. The phone stopped working, so he asked a friend to repair it so he could use it again. Well, the guy who modded the phone (I don't know who he is) said the phone could not be reset, and he should have modded it with a cooked ROM.
And here we are. He flashed a ROM I still can't identify, with an improbable CWM recovery in Thai language. This ROM is jelly bean based, it's widely bugged and speakers don't work. Since my friend couldn't use the phone to make calls anymore, he switched to an iPhone (heart attack!) and abandoned this amazing phone.
Now I have the phone, and I'm going crazy trying to find a solution to bring the phone back to it's old glory. Since I'm a poor owner of Sony devices, I have no idea of how to mod an HTC, and unfortunately many guides on the internet expect that every single person on this planet knows what they're talking about.
Here are my troubles: I don't know how to check if the phone is S-off (and I have no idea of what it means) or what is its CID (what's that?!). I can't flash a twrp recovery, and I can't speak Thai, so I can't use the current recovery. I don't know if the phone is branded. Bootloader is different from the ones whom I find the screenshots on the internet.
Can anyone solve this enigma?
Here are some screenshots.

everyone on here is going to ask you this question, and so am I, we need your fastboot getvar all without the IEMI and serial number, but as you probably don't know how to use that, then do this for now:
hold down the power button and select restart, whilst the phone is shutting down, hold down the volume down button, don't let go until the phone comes back on, should come back on to what is known as the bootloader screen, please take a picture of this and post it.

hold down the power button and select restart, whilst the phone is shutting down, hold down the volume down button, don't let go until the phone comes back on, should come back on to what is known as the bootloader screen, please take a picture of this and post it.

Also tell us what your phone's original Model ID is. It will be written on the back end, at the lower side.
That way we will get the idea of your query from which region the phone was made to work and on which network.
Because seems like it's firmware was converted.
Here it is! Does anyone know Thai? Or Chinese? Or whatever the hell is this?
Model PN07100
Does it sound legit?
I'm gonna try to obtain the getvar thing by googling some guides.

That's Chinese. And does not look like the HTC One M7 bootloader screen. The ROM also did not look like stock Sense 5 (bits of it did, but that might just be HTC apps installed from the Play Store). Get the fastboot getvar all results, but for now my suspicion is that it might be a very nice looking clone.

Guys I'm amazed! :'D
Well, it's probably a clone. I've just found this on the internet, I've checked the battery and... It's 1600MAh!!
Damn, those Chinese guys take cloning pretty seriously!!
Enigma solved!
I'm wondering if there is any chance either to flash a ROM or to update it, because speakers and Bluetooth don't work.
It's an HDC clone.

Yep sorry to tell you but this is a fake HTC One No software or firmware for HTC One will work with this device.
I wonder if the rich guy bought a clone or the friend who tried to "repair" it swapped it for a clone LOL
