Is the samsung phone designed in a way that any contact with water ends up screwing it?
I doubt it since my wife dropped mine in the snow and left it there for about an hour. I found it dumped it in the rice jar and it was all good. Make sure you don't turn it on, and put it in a bowl of rice for about a day. Should be good, depending on the severity of water damage.
Dropped mine in snow too earlier this winter, wet snow. Didn't notice it, picked it up 5 minutes later.. Still on, still working. Dried it off, all is still well.

To speed the process you can put the phone and rice near a heater or tv. or some warmer than room temp area.
salt water is dangerous, but normal water less so.
my phone was in a fabric bag that was accidentally dipped into the ocean by my gf (which was only noticed hours later T_T, so it was left in a wet bag...). the bottom 3 buttons stopped working, but amazingly started working again after a couple of days (middle button needs a harder press though, probably because i stupidly and accidentally removed part of the contact point when trying to clean the salt off with a cotton swab).
So, I think the device is pretty tough!
Hy today I was going home on motorbike and my phone was in jacket pocket ( jacket is motorbike, waterproof, never questioned that ) and suddenly it started to rain and I had no worry cause jacket is waterproof and many time I carried phone in jacket while raining,no problem at all.
But guess what.I arrived home and pulled out phone from jacket and I felt water on TPU case and bottom of case was soaked.
Immiditealy I had heart attack that water found her way into phone electronics and parts and I pulled out battery, sim card and memory card and dried phone with hair drier.
Then I switch battery with replacement battery and started phone. After LG logo apperead I was happy but no so soon, then LG logo flickered after showing it as it should be and black screen on left part of screen and artefact screen on right ( like when your computer GPU dies ) and I hear boot sounds and going into homescreen.
My questions is should I try to dry more or thats pretty much that what I could do ?
Did digitizer died or LCD screen ? Could they notice if I take it to warranty the water indicator like on Iphone ?
Guys please help, give some advice,I'm going insane
Strip the battery from the phone. Put both in a bag of rice. Leave alone in the rice in a warm place for 48 hours. Try to see if it works. If not then there's not much else you can really do.

Thanks for reply, last time mom washed my Nokia 100 and after leaving it in rice for 24 hours water withdrawed and now phone worsk flawlessly like before.
As I sad, phone turns on,shows LG logo as it should be,I hear boot sound and then one half of screen is black and other half has artefacts.
So my question is what could be damaged ( cpu, gpu, motherboard, lcd screen, digitizer ) ?
After spending 12 hours in rice,my phone works and everything is fine except rear and front camera.
They dont seem to work, they show some kind of artefacts, then it turns for a short period time and laggs and they I get error App has crashed etc.
Should I carry my phone to phone service or leave it for 24 hours more in rice, maybe rice will dry moisture from camera lens/electronics or are both cameras completely dead ?

Personally I would leave it in the rice for for a couple of days at least. My old Sony Ericsson took 3 days in rice to get back to full working order following it's short visit to the toilet basin.
You only need the slightest drop of water in the wrong place to create a short, which will cause your phone to act erratically.
I have my fingers crossed for you :fingers-crossed:

is there any chance that rice will dry out moisture from camera and they'll work normally ?
if cameras are dead, what parts should I order from Ebay ? plastic cover or just camera

my phone is accidently droped into a low level bowl of water face down.
almost 25% of phone dipped into water, and as soon as it contacted water i pulled it out and pulled the battery and sim and memory card out.
then i tried to dry it with hair drier for 10 mins,
then i started my phone and it started normaly, but after 1 minute while i was using it, it dimmed and gone to black screen, i instantly pulled out the battery again,, and yet i'm thinking what to do,
do i still have chance of rice trick?
i can't take chance on my phone, i'm not a rich person to afford this phone again
so please reply soon,
thanks

Put in in the rice you got nothing to lose.. But honestly, you made a mistake turning the phone on after 10 min. Rice will hopefully take out the moist.

but then i thought to be carefull and pulled out the battery and put it again in rice for another day...

If you live in a cold place, keep it in for atleast 2 days. Also stop powering your phone on, it will reduce your chances.Try to get it to somewhere warmer
if you ask me, you made a mistake when you tried to dried it with blower
when it drooped into water, then right away turn it off, battery out, sim and sd out
then try to collect water as much as you can with tissue
then put in on rice, basically bury it in it so that phone is surrounded with rice all around
leave it like that for 2-3 days
then try to start it to see if you had luck to get the moisture out
Rice is a bad idea.
It will dry but the water from everywhere contains salt and minerals.
It will rust everything inba short periodo.
Run to a repair store and they will dissasamble and proper clear parts.

ok friends, thanks GOD my phone is alright, not a single default in it,
working perfectly, it has been half an hour i'm using it with minimum 800+ processor frequency so that it generate some heat,
everything is wroking,
and i wanna thank all of you for replying and helping... rice is the best method for it.
thanks a lot,
Regards,
The best method is actually to use the desiccant packets that come with electronic equipment, but I'm lucky to get lots of them through my job in case I ever need them. Rice is the best thing that almost everyone has easily available.
I'm glad it's all working, quick action of normally the best bet.

a nice homemade trick to fix wet devices is, grab a container, half fill it with white rice, from a new package, and the put your device into the rice, of course without a battery and back plate, and the complete the container with more white rice, wait for two days and then, try to turn on your device, it will be completly dryed, i proved with several devices and always works again
yes, rice dried my device completely and I'm using it without any problem now
So my girl calls me up and says she drop her phone in the water and the screen is just black but the home and back is lit.
I told her to press and hold the power till the lights flash and go off.
She said she did that and it went off.
Now what are the chances the phone is gone for ever? and how does t mobile know if the phone has hit water or not?
I call and they told me if there is no outside damage to the phone then i can do an exchange, but if there is outside damage or water damage i would have to do the insurance which is $175 up front.
I remember my friend phone hit some water and he dry it out and everythign work but it was also an s3 and you could remove the battery.
Any time you drop a phone in water or spill water on it, always completely submerge it in rice for 24hrs. This will suck out all the water that it can, and if there's any chance at your phone surviving the water, that could be the solution. If she dropped the phone and water and it sunk I think there's a high likelihood your phone is screwed. To answer your other question, there's a sticker somewhere inside the device that changes colors once it gets wet enough to touch the sticker (usually not too deep within the phone) which is how they can tell.
If I were you, I would try dumping it in rice for 24hrs and if it still doesn't work, just pay the 175 and get it replaced. Stuff like this is exactly what the insurance is for.

Yea it's been drying. I'll just pay if I gotta. And find her a water proof case
hi community,
i went on a trip with my bike, after an hour it started to rain, really heavy rain. as soon as it started i closed the flap for the headphone-jack, and put the device in my trousers pocket. when i arrived at home my trousers were soaking wet. the device turned itself of (short circuit?). every water-indicator turned red, even with closed flaps. i removed SD and SIM, opened all flaps. my device suffers the backplate lifting problem you all propably know about. its still wet on the inside after one night as i can tell from the steamy front and backcamera lenses. some questions:
what can i do in order to get it fully dry ?
when can i try to turn it on ?
in case it is really damaged, is there any way to get some money out of it ?
thanks in advance
put it in a bag of rice for about 24/48 hours to see if it fully drys out

Exactly right. Actually I also took off the back plate and put it at the back of my pc... used the fans to blow my Z for a few days cuz I don't usually shut off my pc.
Try turn it on when you feel it's dry inside. Maybe after 24hr if you don't take off the back plate.
If it's eventually dead, sell it for parts. I could use a rear camera
it was in a bag of rice for a few days now. tried to turn it on today, nothing. no vibration, no led or any sign of life. connected it to the charger, to the pc, nothing. im pretty sure the water came in to the loose backpanel, so is there a chance they will replace/repair it? or do the red water indicators void all warranty ?

Oh they might be wanting to repair it, but it will probably cost you the same as a new phone.

That's true.. Give it more days and see if it turns on.
It's been a while, but i wanted to let you know what happened.
The phone was irreparably damaged and i took it to the vendor where i bought it.
They sent it to sony. In the form i had to fill out i mentioned that the water damage
is a result of the loose backpanel. In the end sony gave a replacement device for free,
i think it took two weeks or so..guess im lucky
3days ago i slipped besides a pool n got my nexus 6 into the pool without i noticed it then after 10mins i found it submerged in the pool n quickly save it, make it dry with cloth and the screen show blurr display n then gone dark. Back to hotel i let dry n sometimes try to switch on the phone and charge it, and after some research in some forum i got to know that the phone will come back alive after 3-7 days if u quickly dry it in bag of uncooked rice or silica gel and that what im notdoing plus my mistakes is try to switch it on and charge the phone. what should really i do now?
Time to invest in a new device, water damaged isn't covered under any warranty.
If it was submerged in water for 10 minutes, then you "dried" it and turned it on right away and even tried charging it, the phone is done for. You should've instantly removed the battery after pulling it out of the pool, put it into a bag a rice for 4-6 days, THEN tried putting everything back together and seeing what happened. Even then, there's no guarantees that it'd work, I mean, it was dropped into water for over 10 minutes.

Asurion covers any type of damage. I got mine wet about 6 months ago thankfully I had Asurion insurance through Verizon. You only pay $10 a month for peace of mind. But if you make a claim all you do is call them and explain what happened and pay your deductible which is $100. Once you pay the detectable they will send you a like new device, with a return shipping label with in 1 ta 2 business days. Upon receiving the like new device you have 14 days to ship them the damaged device. If you don't ship them the damaged device within the 14 days you will be charged full retail price for the like new device they sent you. If you don't have Asurion insurance and want to get it, it will take 30 days before you can file a claim. Hope this helps!

I don't know man i dropped mine in the toilet and its fine lol. Also spilled a beer on it and lost sound and couldnt use the mic, but when i woke up the next morning after fully charging the phone and it worked like new. I'd try the rice thing or try to replace the battery. .
assuming it's paid off and you aren't under warranty, you can scrap your phone for parts or try to fix it yourself. Theres a market for it (housing, etc.) Parts aren't that expensive on ebay, and swappa has a website for selling/buying broken phones. There's plenty of tear down videos on xda too, so it really shouldn't be that hard if you do a little bit of research.
My advice: instead of throwing it in the trash, try to fix it or scrap it
i have dropped mine in a pool too ...and now i have this fkin yellow tint in my screen and i dont know how to get rid of it am so fkin sad bro

nexus 6 is unremovable battery but ya i think so its time to get a new budget smartphones and save some for nexus 6p later. nexus 6 is really good phones
And I've seen videos where guys put them in sinks full of water on purpose as it is water resistant (not waterproof). Guess they were lucky or it is something from the chemicals in pool water.
