I just want to let the community know that I ordered 2 nexus 7's last Wed. and got them today. BOth have 0 screen problems (Raising or washed out colors).. Perhaps they fixed the issue. I decided to order from google because the 2 I bought from Walmart had screen raising problems.

Lucky... I've had FIVE N7s so far and they've all some type of defect. Some had dead pixels and screen flicker, and others had a raised screen.
Quick Question though:
Did they come with 4.1.1 pre installed?

no.. just 4.1...
I just received my replacement N7 today and it's perfect. The first one I got last week in the mail had a creaky screen; the beginning of screen lift. I called Google and they sent another one out and this one has no issues. Unlocked, rooted, and loving it!

Mine's a C60K build, no defects.
I'm still skeptical on the no washed out claim. Seems like they all have this. Some people just don't notice it.

No some are definitely worse than others. I've had one that was washed out with less saturation and now my current one which is fine...
First C6 I had screen had no lift was perfect but had battery defect (kept dying at 20% even after calibration and other troubleshoooting), C7 now has screen lift and gonna try and exchange it out again.
Both did the oversaturation/washed out thing after watching netflix or a video
**EDIT just got back with the replacement another C7 was good out of the box, no lift but after using now I got either a stuck/dead pixel upper right of my screen got the stuck pixel fixer running but I think its toast. 3 for 3 with issues now
*edit 2 exchanged it out today there were no more in stock so just took the credit back

I agree with that. I've seen some pictures of really badly washed out ones. But I think there is still some minor washed out look to all of them.
Well maybe I am lucky than, I got mine on WalMart and there is no screen lift, no dead pixels and color is perfect.

Honestly, there's so much variability in screens that nothing surprises me. I've gone through four N7's so far, screens have been:
1. Very nice colors, relatively neutral whites, color temps just about right (not too hot, not too cold, just like Goldilocks). Returned because of dead pixel and screen lifting. Wish I hadn't, though; I could have lived with the dead pixel and minimal screen lift for a much better screen.
2. Extremely yellow tint, very unpleasant whites, colors also off; can't decide if it's color temp too warm (which I usually associate with a reddish tint) or something else. Couldn't get past the screen on this one, so returned it for this reason alone.
3. Somewhere in between #1 and #2 in yellow tint and colors. Not terrible, not great. Unfortunately, speaker was WAY too low, almost unusable even at max volume. Also the only one with actual mushiness and creaking on the left side. Returned that one too.
4. A little more yellow than #3, a little less than #2. But three dead pixels, and speaker distorted starting at 75% volume.
#1-#3 were from Google Play, and I had two sitting side by side throughout so I could compare them. #4 is from Staples.
So, yes, who knows what some people are experiencing when it comes to the screen. I can definitely imagine some people having less saturated colors and such, because I saw difference on four different units.

Well got mine today and the left side of the screen is separating pretty bad. Just got off the phone with them for a replacement.. ah well..number 2 on the way.
Are you having problems where a hard tap on different parts around the bezel results in the screen glitching? I am not putting much pressure on the bottom left corner (side with screen lift) and the screen starts warping.
im sending back 2 nexus today because of issues were the touch screen stops responding after a few mins of use. is this a common issue? makes playing a game or any use more than 5 mins pointless.
People are generally much more prone to complain when their purchase has some issues, while those who have perfect devices are unlikely to post their experiences. To balance that out, I decided to make this post.
My N7 had a very slight screen lift, and I thought I'll just keep it just in case my replacement unit is worse than my current one. After about 3 weeks, I decided to exchange my device, hoping there will be less production issues. Boy am I happy with that decision. Aside from the screen lift, the buttons on the right side always bothered me because it felt too recessed (hard to press). I thought it was just how the device was designed so I never thought much about it. The buttons on my new unit feels just perfect. Very snappy, easy to press, but not too sensitive. Oh, and no screen lift on the new device.
I really feel bad for those who have exchanged their device more than once or twice.
Expecting my first replacement tomorrow death pixels.

I also got one of these, my roommate did to, both the 16gb models and have had no issues at all...
I just got mine about 3 hours ago and so far it's perfect. It's the 16 gigabyte version and the serial number starts with C 70

I hate saying this but I bought 2 Nexus 7 to swap out parts and make one perfect one. They both had different issues like screen lift, hard to press buttons and missing screws.

The right side of my screen is a lot warmer looking than the left, and it drives me crazy when there's a white background such as a webpage or book.
I missed the Staples return window so I suppose I need to call Asus, just kind of dreading talking to them.
I've considered keeping it but I know I'd be a lot happier if the screen was consistent. (Whites look a lot whiter on the left half of the screen)

You should hold off calling Asus. I think that problem should fixs itself in time.

I pre ordered my nexus 7 before release which I will never do again and the screen cracked randomly after 5 months but Asus repaired it for free. This is what happened.
I had the left side screen raise issue and screen bleeding from that side as well but as I had read in forums other people had problems with the screen responsiveness and dead pixels which i did not have so, i thought i would just keep it and not send it back for a new one in case I had these problems with the replacement.
I have had the nexus 7 in a case that has a front hard flap to protect the screen from any direct impact. I have not dropped it and had used it almost everyday from usage without any problems. Then one day I leave the tablet on my table come back and there is a crack along the screen from where the screen lift was on my tablet. This was about after i had the tablet for 5 month.
I thought it was game over as i had read Asus don't repair cracked screens but I phoned and they said if it is a manufacturing problem they will repair it free of charge. So I called Asus they gave a RMA number had to print out a few sheets for reciepts to give to tnt collector. Asus then called me to organize a time i was free for it to be collected, the tablet was collected the next day. Baring in mind i did all of this over new years it was collected on the 22nd December. Asus got the tablet on the 27th of December a bit later than what they said ( 2 working days). Then I recieved it on the 4th of January.
To my joy FULLY REPAIRED, the screen was replaced and now there is no screen lift or screen bleeding, their customer service was very good and even during holiday period only took just under 2 weeks. Very happy with Asus repair service so far
I RECOMEND IF U HAVE SCREEN LIFT GET IT REPAIRED OR REPLACED BEFORE IT CRACKS
good thing i dont have any lifts or bleed but thanks for the info though.
Just sharing the info so far better after care than apple didn't have to leave my house to get it repaired for free

I am also going through almost the exact same thing. I was sitting in my chair, browsing the web, and watching tv. I heard a little noise, looked at my tab, and there was a crack running from the middle left ( where I also had some lift) to the bottom right. My unit also had lift from purchase, but it never inhibited the use and didn't bother me.
Chatted online with Asus (the tab is 6 months old) and they started an RMA. Cross your fingers for me that it gets repaired for free!
Hey peeps I've had my nexus 7 for about 2 weeks now and having no issues (touch wood). Hence the topic does any else wonder about the longevity, I.e speaker blows or screen bleed suddenly appears.

The likely hood (unless you have a defective nexus 7) is that you will get a new device before the nexus 7 stops working well.
I personally think this device is well built enough to easily last 5+ years, maybe even 10. I can't see why not if it's treated well.

I have never known any electrical appliance that has never had any units that have had faults, it's impossible. Truth it it's luck of the draw with any manufacturer but it's usually the minority (and in this case it is). My friend bought the same TV as me at the same time, his died within 6 months (and he got a replacement under warranty), mine's still going strong after 3 years. Providing you haven't got "a bad one" there's no reason it can't go 5 years plus, my (built myself) PC is 5 years old and it's been overclocked to death since the day it was built - that's still going strong!
Depends on the unit. Some will go bad within 30 days, some will go bad within a year.
Unless there is a design flaw, most faults with electronics tend to happen early on in my experience (ie. few weeks to a month)
Seeing as Asus does release most tablets with some design flaws (off the top of my head TF201 with wifi/gps issues, and the Nexus 7 screen lift)
I've seen about 6-7 Nexus 7s so far with screen lift, all in the same spot and about the same amount. So the longevity would be based on whether that design flaw is cosmetic, or could effect the screens durability.
IMO, it WILL affect the screen down the road and lead to a weakened screen with your screen eventually cracking.
(Anyone who says they don't have screen lift, either it hasn't developed yet or are extremely lucky)

It's my opinion unless Asus has fixed the speaker problem, ANY Nexus 7's speakers will eventually 'blow out' and rattle incessantly. My left speaker has done it three times and my right speaker once, and I don't play movies, loud games, etc.. It's apparently done it from notifications every time.
They pop back down, but it'll just happen again. As for the rest, the battery will wear out at some point, depending upon how well you treat it, most likely it would carry a reasonable amount of charge for 3-4 years. If you heavily discharge and recharge it every day, less time.. Hot environment, less time, etc...
Screen bleed I've never heard of except for screen detects in manufacturing, never heard of it happening while in use.

The main one that I'm worried about is the speakers. I don't use them for music but for games and notifications and that. :-/

As popular as this device has become I can see it being around for a few years with no problems. I'm sure any parts that may end up being common replacement parts will start popping up for cheap on amazon. My speakers are working great, and I use them extensively for games, movies, and YouTube. I see no reason they shouldn't last a few years themselves, but if for some reason they don't there's always headphones/portable speakers.
I'm very happy with my little tablet and full intend on using it for a good 2-3 years, longevity is part of the reason I got it. Once my Toshiba laptop died (HDD failure), after a year and a half of usage, I replaced it with a more modern Asus. Wouldn't you know the Asus suffered HDD failure after a year, right out of warranty. This time since my laptop is still running up to date hardware I chose to fix, ended up costing $250 after ordering recovery discs, 500GB HDD, and 8 gigs of RAM ( which I didn't need after all, the guy testing my laptop was an idiot). So I decided to use my 7 for everyday light duty in the hopes I'll actually be able to get a few years out of my laptop this time around.

A device will last as long as you take care of it.
Be careful with it, act as its a very prized possession (I know mine is)
Cases are your friend,(high quality ones at least) and will give your device a longer life(usually)

I have the 32GB wifi model
When it first arrive, its perfect, but after playing some intense 3D games... I notice my screen lifted... 0.1mm
I think its because of the heat it generates when gaming...
Now, I only use N7 for reading and some light gaming.
*Using cases that has a lock on cover, so when you close the cover after every use, especially gaming, the cover will apply pressure to the screen.
Its will stop the screen lift from going worse.

Amazon is much cheaper, I just post this link, as its from their official store.
Got my 16GB model in September last year and the screen cracked taking the digitizer with it last week. No, I didn't drop it, yes it was in a leather case. I've looked after it but the screen just shattered. Asus Warranty doesn't cover the screen apparently so the durability on mine was laughable. I won't be buying another.

I don't think these will last longer then a couple years by then there will be cheaper and faster tablets. Sure they will still work but it will be like using that first Android Phone you got that is sitting in your sock drawer

Very hard to get a photo but i have managed take a look, i have tried scrubbing the marks off but no luck they are like stains. Each replacement the same, one or two blodges of this stain.
Yep, my brand new CW 64GB had almost the exact same spots in the exact same place on the back from day 1, I noticed it right away.
mine had one left of the dimple, really small. but I didn't mind about just one small mark (although a little annoyed) as I was putting a dbrand skin over it
Its a problem during manufacturing. I had one that didn't bother me as I use a case, but it also had a screen issue the RMA I got does not have them.
Don't have this issue .
I asked you for some photos because I noticed this issue the day you started this thread. I have one of this mark on the top corner and I use the phone always with a rear case from the first day. I tried to clean it with some alcohol . Now it's better but still visible.

I'm probably a little late to the party, but I just bought my N6 from Amazon on the 17th. It arrived on the 20th. I can't remember if it had any marks, but I don't believe it did (I checked it prior to returning it). I returned it because I thought the widespread bluetooth audio issue was defect with my device (turns out I was wrong). My replacement came in, same problems, though at this point I learned it was a common problem with lollipop. However, this one had two very tiny blemishes. They look like grease marks, or scuffs, or wet marks...but they wouldn't come out. I replaced that one with the phone I just got tonight. This one has an even LARGER scuff mark. Amazon offered to give me 20% back on the phone, and I accepted...but this is bothering me terribly. For all of you who RMA'd, were you successful in getting back a flawless unit? I'm thinking about calling Motorola in the morning and seeing if RMAing will result in a new device and if I will be able to keep the remainder of my 1 year warranty. AT&T is shady if I go through them. Last year I RMA'd a brand new device about 30 days into ownership and they told me that since I have a replacement device, my warranty was cut to 90 days for that device. I don't feel like dealing with that headache again.
