Hey as sony has given open offer for all the devlopers for unlocking the bootloder by detailed procedure at thier site with selected types of sony ericsson handsets. I go though the list they provided and saw it can be done on xperia mini too. I want to know, is there any similarities between x8 and xperia mini??

It can't be done for X8. X8 is 2010 device, this unlocking method is for 2011 and 2012 (maybe) devices.
Only thing that is the same for Xperia Mini and X8 is the scren resolution, nothing else.
It's unfair. Sony give methods to unlock new phones. My brothers xperia mini pro bootloader unlocked by sony's method

You can't unlock the bootloader of 2010 phones through Sony. Also don't get confused with x10 mini pro and xperia mini pro.

X8 and W8 are the same.Same country prefer X8, while other country called it W8.My country called it W8 but I flashed that before and my W8 became a X8 Both modules are the same.

yeah you are right of course you unbrick your w8 with x8 ftf file...!! but why you made this thread "w8 ftf file" ..!! when x8 ftf file can solve your problem...why you need it badly...!!

Yes,ROM made for X8 can also compatible for W8 because they are the same device with same hardware spec and form factor
but you also get bugs and glitches in some ROM that installed in W8. but its very rare to see.
Yes Xperia x8/ Walkman w8 are the same phones with different model names. Before installing any custom rom make sure you update your baseband.
Has anyone tried rooting their xperia phone using the steps provided on Sony Mobile's website? Does it work and is their a risk of your phone being bricked?

I think you confuse rooting with unlocking the bootloader. Check the All-in-One thread, everything you need to know is in there.
