Adonit Jot Mini on Nexus 7 - Nexus 7 Accessories

Ordered it, brief review pending, it'll be here Thursday
Hullo everyone, I took the plunge and ordered an Adonit Jot Mini stylus for my Nexus 7. I'm really excited to see how well it performs. I've heard that the input on all of the Adonit styli starts to go intermittent, but everyone's saying that a little thermal paste where the ball contacts the plastic disk solves the problem like a charm.
I'll post a short review as a reply when I finally get it, and then another one in a few weeks after more extensive use. I am a design student, so I'll probably be making heavy use of this once school starts up again this fall.
For anyone who's interested,
Adonit Jot Mini (from official site)
adonit.net/product/jot-mini-2/
(I'm not allowed to post working links yet, sorry).
Is there anyone else who is using an Adonit Jot stylus for their Nexus 7? How is it?
P.S. Your darned annoying reCaptchas on here are nigh on impossible to read (5+ refreshes per post).

Who copied who?
Here's the Jot mini

Oh wow, good observation. It's pretty suspicious for sure.
That's a sweet looking pen. With it retracted it almost looks like a stylus (the darker one).

I have the adonit jot pro and it does not work on the nexus 7. What is this thermal paste you are talking about?

Thermal paste is the stuff that goes between a processor and heat sink on your pc's motherboard. Google for Arctic Silver if you need an example.

The thermal paste is definitely needed, I had the regular sized one before and it would always skip.

Does this work for note taking? Still trying to find a good note taking stylus.

I have an Adoit Jot Pro, it works great on my TF300t ad my Nexus 7. After a while the disc will stop working properly so I suggest buying replacement discs just to have them on standby.

Realy been pondering if i should get this

Really no updates after all these months? Come on people, maintain your threads...
I Had a JOT for a long time and worked great on my Skyrocket. But this thing sucks on my Nexus 7. I have to press down with some force for it to work, and I have my skin all over the metal part. I will not use force for the screens protection. I am using a great app called Sketch.
Maybe my Jot disk is out of whack but the JOT was just sent to me brand new as a replacement. I will continue to Google search the issue.

My Jot pro is about 3 months old still works same as the day i purchased it.. Its not perfect it just works.. I will say i have tried many of them and this one is the best out there right now.. i Wish i could get something to work half as accurate as my Intuos 4 wacom tablet.
Just my opinion..
Oh and i have a cheap plastic screen protector these things will not work very well with the poly soft type skins to much friction and will wear out the ball joint in the disk ..

I was looking at one of these but heard that they click a lot when the plastic hits the screen and kinda seem hit or miss. I decided to get a boxwave from amazon and I love this thing. It has clothed mesh tip so IMO its super smooth AND really accurate. Almost no errors with this stylus. I haven't done a lot of drawing or hand written notes but the quick doodles I've done always seem to be on point.

For a stylus I have been using my Kickstarter pen, the Titanium and Aluminum pen and stylus, from BigIdea.com.
The titanium is pricy but heavy and long. But the XTS (aka smaller) versions work well from what I have seen.
http://www.bigidesign.com/welcome/solid-aluminum-pen-stylus/#!prettyPhoto

Just found this thread by a search. Love my jot pro but just ran into disc issues on it. Like anything that wears out this slowly had issues. Spoiled with my Samsung phones and being able yo play with sensitivity. Yes did have to have a lil more pressure that. A feather like touch on it but not much but as I got used to it it wasn't an issue. But just recent ly I had skips I kept blaming the apps and going into Dev settings to see touch pressure. That went first then reduced to where a hard touch was registering as 22. While other styluses registered fine. And it registers fine on my phones but the nexus stopped today. That's a issue. But will try cleaning methods I just don't want to hurt the thing since I just got it in Dec. But one month seems like a truly short lifespan. Thoughts?

Hopefully that means Chromatics as well. I've used the black "carbon fiber" skin on my Galaxy S for months now, still like new, looks great, and has a nice texture to it which helps your grip quite a lot.
Oh, and there's this little tidbit:

Pity they're in Arizona which doesn't do Daylight Savings. Otherwise you'd still have about 7 minutes since they do run on PST. I'd give it a try anyway if you haven't already.
And Winter30 as a code will still give you 30% off (just doesn't stack with Cyber50).
So mine arrived yesterday. It's good stuff. Very good stuff.
To be honest here, I'm like four times as happy with the Chromatics on my Tab than I am with the Zenus case that came in the same day.
Besides no more fingerprints on the back, the installation of the stuff on the sides and top mean this thing is MUCH easier to hold one-handed, the bit of extra friction/grip it gives means you don't need a death-grip, light pressure is enough.
Extra bonus, the side pieces make the device look much slimmer, believe it or not.
Also comes with a nicely cut screen protector which I haven't installed yet.
Looks good, is it easy to install?
Will the 30% code work today?
If you remove it, will there be some glue leftovers or some mark after the skin?

Really easy to install. The 3M material they use is pretty nifty stuff.
Here's a video of it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z3mb85nxdY
It can be removed with no residue, and re-applied almost indefinitely if you get it crooked or something.
If you get a wrinkle in it, (or an edge lifts, etc) apply a little heat from a hair dryer or desk lamp and it will smooth right out.
After it's applied, you can use a little heat and/or a microfiber cloth to rub the edges, so that they blend smoothly with the Tab...when it's brand new, the material has a little "bite" when you run your finger across an edge.
30% code should still work.

Hot damn that is sexy. I'd bought a chromatics kit from them for the Milestone before but wasn't satisfied because it wasn't really full coverage, so I went with a (also very nice) Wrapsol matte skin with the Tab this time.
Think I'll order this again.. just need think whether I want black or white
Great, will make a order directly

Just wanna make a quick comment that after installing the phantomskin, the tab doesnt fit on the HDMI dock. I can still force it in, but then it made some scratches on the skin. Hope ppl are aware of this.
Same experience here. But the skin is really nice! I'm very impressed. It's my first skin set from Phantom. Easy to install and gives the Tab an very good look. Only Sim cutout is not perfect.
Display cover was not that easy to apply but looks quite good now. After waiting for about 8 hours, til all water disappeared.
Delivery to Germany was quite fast.

Really?
these skins don't look that thick, i just ordered a dock, i wanted to get a skin like this or the zagg one
It's not that bad. Just the screenprotector gets little much pressure on the lower corners.
Backcover is ok.
With the protectors it feels to fit a litter too perfect into the dock.
Maybe supported by the flimsy adhesive surface of the screenprotector. The SGT doesn't slide that easy into the dock.
For me that is no real problem.
Don't be disappointed bevor you get the skins. I think it was a good choice.
Does the skin get scratched or rubbed away after being inserted into the dock?
Thanks

First, that's not a Samsung Galaxy NOTE stylus. That's a Samsung Galaxy Tab stylus which is an entirely different technology. The Note's stylus is an active stylus capable of things like pressure sensitive writing with a fine tip (as opposed to the other sausage-tipped styli that just pretend they're your finger).
As far as the difference between the ones you point out go.... performance varies from person to person and device to device, so you've really just got to try some and see if they work well with the Nexus and your particular writing style. Just make sure that the tip is firm enough that the body of the pen can't hit the screen while you write.
And if you're hoping that writing with any capacitive stylus will be just like writing with a real pen....then neither of them will be good for you since they can't handle that type of precision (you usually need to write large letters that programs shrink down). The type of styli used with the Galaxy Note are the only ones that can actually handle this, but there aren't any for use with the Nexus.
I'm using the Kensington Virtuoso Touch, there are a couple of threads on this forum giving links to reviews of various styluses that tell you why the better ones are 'better'.
I'm using these (In the picture) with my Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 which both have xtreme guard screen protectors on them. They work perfectly. They aren't pressure sensitive or anything extravagant like that, but they write well and draw well. That's what I was looking for. I like that I can lose them and it doesn't matter since they are dirt cheap.
I purchased these in an 8 pack. 4 Large and 4 small for my phone. They are all identical in build quality which is good. Made out of aluminum.
I also own a few other stylus (Bamboo, Cosmonaut) which are good but compared to price/performance for me, these are the best I've used.

Im using one I got from the pound shop its brilliant..
Yea don't waste your money on a stylus outside of a few bucks. I almost purchased a $20 stylus at Microcenter then while checking out, they had the exact same one for $3. I tested both and both felt the same.
Outside of acting like I can draw anything good on a tablet (or on paper for that matter) they are a fad. I also don't take notes with a pen.
Just invest money in a good keyboard from the market and practice thumb typing. Or buy a little Bluetooth thumb keyboard off eBay for $5 which also doubles as a handy gamepad for emulators.
Capacitive screens just aren't good for fine tuned motor skills required for writing. The tablets that have pens like the Note use a combination of technologies that let it be much more precise.
I also think the pens come separate and cost a good chunck of change (~$50?). The HTC Flyer does it that way. I just can't see writing with a stylus on a 5" screen.

I don't know... I have lots of things I could use a fine tipped accurate stylus for. The biggest issue I see for things like the Note and the Note Tab is app support.

i tried my amazon stylus versus my buddy's one dollar no brand stylus
to be honest, they are almost the same, i emailed amazon back and want to return the stylus, told them that it felt no different than the 1 dollar one my buddy got, they told me to keep it and will give me my money back, i told the csr that it won't be necessary and they issued the credit anyway
i don't recommend anyone doing this with the intention of asking amazon for a refund but they did do the right thing for me

I'm not gonna lie, I bought one of those dollar store styluses yesterday and... Using my Nexus 7 is a LOT more fun with a stylus than without. I was pleasantly surprised
I've had the Kensington for a couple of weeks now and I'm using it more and more, it's really fast and accurate for typing, keeps the fingerprints down and the inbuilt Parker pen is great.

LuvTab Nexus 10 Case

Anyone have experience with these cases? It looks pretty solid, but states they won't have stock until December 1st. It's also in the UK, so shipping time must be considered. I'm just wondering if it's going to be available somewhere else sooner or stateside!
Kind of digging the white, but I feel like the different color retention tab being visible when looking at the device could be a bit strange.

I had one of those cases for the transformer infinity and have to say I love it! Very protective, good for flat reading, good as a media stand and the materials (in the one I had) were very good.
Negative things I would say is that my transformer one almost fit the nexus 10, so I am suspicious of people passing off old stock as new, and the fit not being optimal for the new device.
Although at that price I might give it a go anyway, as I'm in the UK

These guys are expecting stock this week. I spoke to them on the phone and they are new, just for the Nexus 10 (which is why they don't have them in yet.) No carbon finish, though, which the Nexus 7 cases have: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LuvTab-Go...d_Folios&var=580155521327&hash=item416e077518
That looks good, not too thick by the look of it. That is one of my main gripes with a lot of cases i see out there, take a lovely sleek tablet, and then wrap it in a thick bulky case. I can understand it if you are trying to protect your device, but for me, a case is for no other reason than stopping accidental scratches to the screen and to allow it to stand up. There shouldn't be a need for anything over the top.
The only thing i don't really like about that case is the grippers that hold onto the tablet. I would much rather a case with some alternative sleeker method of holding it, it just looks, i on't know, industrial?
found this Bear Motion $3.99 + shipping $4.49, looks similar: http://www.amazon.com/Bear-Motion-P...qid=1353350716&sr=1-48&keywords=nexus+10+case.

Anyone worrying about the magnetic effect of the case? I've read reviews on LuvTab® for Nexus 7
amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B008FXSC9U/ref=dp_top_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
Some were complaining about the bad magnet, which may damage the compass of the tablet. I am looking something without magnet. Of course I can buy a silicon case or those sleeves. But I want something that can create a stand. And it looks like everything that can create a stand is with magnet.
Seems like this has been delayed for a week or so.
I emailed the seller and he said the delay was only for new order not existing ones and that i should expect it next week

I've just got my LuvTab case and I have to say I'm not impressed, in design its similar to one I had with the tf700, but the finish on the outside, whilst described as leather, is like a mock carbon fiber plastic finish, is pretty nasty if you ask me.

I am a loyal "tunebelt" fan and have used them since I had an HP Ipaq HX4700 about 8 years ago, I have an e-mail into them now asking what they have for the note 2. It will likely be their universal ab85 case but I will come back to this thread if/when I get an armband. i will also follow this thread to see what others come up with.
The items I see on amazon have a lot of plastic-y parts on the arm part, my tune belts have always been all neoprene with a plastic window, not the most "air flow" material. I cant bring myself to use one of these "packs".
Cant wait to develop the "note 2 farmer tan" lol.
I am waiting for my VZW Note 2 and I realized that for my kind of physical activities (Mtn Biking(Dirt Jumping specifically), Skiing, cycling) I am better off busting out my old iPod touch.. I dirtjump on my bike and I have broken 4 phones so far and I have learned my lesson.. I have an old iPod touch that I leave sitting in my car as my Music Hub with ~3000 songs on it that has turned into my "There is a possibility of killing this electronic device doing this activity" Device..
On my phones I use Spotify 95% of the time, but I figure I will just download a playlist of 200 songs I listen to most, on top of my already existing library and call it good.. If I am on the way to go ride, I can just kick up my hotspot and download music to the iPod then (less then ideal, but works)
Pros-
- I dont have to worry about breaking my pretty new N2.
- iPod is about half the size and the battery lasts 10x as long
- If I break my 6 year old iPod, I am not really any worse for the wear..
-Doesnt look like I have a cookie sheet hanging on my arm or in my back pocket..
Cons
- I cant use Spotify anywhere..
- Another device to manage..

HA! large phone joke. too easy.
Does anyone else have any input on this? I really want to get a armband for this. I don't care how silly it looks. I get the last laugh while watching movies on my mini tv from my arm lol. I don't actually plan on watching anything but just having it secure on my arm rather then my pockets is what I am after.
i've been using one from ebay, seller named shimshop and the item is called "SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 2 II N7100 LTE SPORTS GYM RUNNING ARMBAND POUCH CASE COVER" and it works well. the only thing is that the headphone hole doesn't line up exactly with it, but you can simply fix that with a little cut with some scissors, the material doesn't rip more than what you cut, so dont worry about that.
Got this one for $5 shipped on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VOISGY/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00
It recently arrived. Shipping took a little longer (2-3 weeks) than expected but it works fine. It's a little tight with a TPU case on so I had to take it out and slip it in bare. :good: The padding is sufficient for me.
17 - 31 days for shipping? Damn that's a bit too long for me.

I too having been scouring retail stores looking for an armband for my Note 2.
I'd love one that has an extra spot for a key, there's so much real estate that comes with a note 2 armband, whats a little storage? The above link looked promising but that's way too long to ship.

I mentioned above an ebay seller who I recently bought my armband from, this armband came with a key slot, my key fits very snug.
I also bought the amazon one that kipghost linked. I bought this one first before the ebay armband. The amazon armband's velcro wasn't as secure as I'd like, but the phone does fit well without any tpu case. I ordered mine from the $0.01 +shipping seller. One problem I noticed was that my volume keys kept getting pushed while I ran, turning up the volume really high or off randomly.

So I ended up buying this one, got it in 11 days, so quicker than I expected. Going to try it out tomorrow.
EDIT: The band popped loose on my first rep at the gym. I can see this thing maybe working for cardio workouts for me, but not lifting. I don't know how big my biceps are but if you buy this and you try it on and only have the end of the strap coming through the loop before finding back over, it's unlikely it will work for you too.

Thinking of picking this one up today. any thoughts on the other ones out there?

Review: Montblanc Flipside Cover Meisterstück Soft Grain for Note5 (and comparison)

Hi there,
I am a very old fan of Montblanc (wallets, watches, pens etc, cases, covers). I was almost refreshing everyday Montblanc's website to see when it would be out for my Note5. I searched for anything possible you could imagine on it on the web, but did not really find anything... I have received mine today, and I am very excited to write this humble review, as I would have loved to find one during my researches on it...
Before it was out, I bought the original Samsung Flip cover and you will be able in this review to see both of them, side by side...
Please excuse by advance the quality of the pictures, I had to take them from my iPhone to shoot the Note5...
Up to October 17th, date of this review, Montblanc is offering 2 flipside cover and 1 case to protect only the back. This is coming together with a special series of cases with Tatoos on them, which I find horrible (personal taste, for me Montblanc should remain clean and simple)
http://www.montblanc.com/en/collection/leather/technical-devices.html?=undefined
One big mistake I told Montblanc online store by phone but it seems that they did not take it into account yet: The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Edge does not exist!! It's either the Note Edge (was out same day with the Note 4 last year). There's the Samsung S6 Edge, the S6 Edge+ but no Note5 Edge. And if a representative from Montblanc is reading me, take this note seriously. If I did not master both topics of Montblanc and Samsung phones, I would have never bought this case because of this huge mistake in its description. "Case for Note 5 Edge" a lot of people will be confused and... might buy something else, somewhere else, competition competition... Take it as a friendly advice
Ok now that's all said, let's start!
Front and back:

What I have noticed when I was looking at the back, and if you look closely at the top left, it's slightly curved to press more easily on the power button... I would have preferred to keep the layout straight but it is quite discreet and more easy to press on it so it's fine.
Inside left and right
This is the plastic part of the case to hold the Note5. As you know, the 3 big mistakes (yes mistakes lol) Samsung did this year with its note are:
- SD Card removed
- Infrared port removed
- Removable battery removed
Advantage I had with the Note 4 last year and Montblanc, I had to remove the original back cover of the phone and put the Montblanc's one. So there was no huge impact on the final thickness of the device... This year, it's not the same :/ As we have a non removable battery, I'm sure it was a headache for Montblanc.
Can you see the "made in Korea" on the plastic part? Do not worry, it's just this part... (well, I hope so!!! lol)
And here you can see the very clean "MontBlanc" in the bottom and the insane quality of the sewing... perfection as usual with Montblanc's leather.
Ok, now, have a look on how the S-Pen is protected. Unlike the original flip case from Samsung, Montblanc has decided here to completely surround the S-Pen which offers a much better protection and even, to me, guide more easily when I put in and out the S-Pen from / to the phone. So, good thing here:
And without the Note5
Now, some photos with the Note5 in it:
With the camera behind
Now when you completely open your Note5 to work on it
Now some comparison in terms of size with the original flip cover from Samsung:
Pros:
- High quality product
- Nice S-Pen protection
- Plastic part holds firmly the handset
Cons:
- Screen does not turn ON and OFF any longer with this cover... I need to adapt myself now compared to last year Montblanc Cover and the Samsung original cover. Both of them were "linked" to the screen... which is not the case this year
- No more adds-on this year by Montblanc: Last year, a lot of new features were offered with the cover. A new S-Note with Montblanc thumbnails, new pens, new wallpapers, etc etc. There's absolutely nothing this year, which make sense as even the screen does not turn on or off, so how could the phone know that's a Montblanc cover? It is clear that the level of partnership between Samsung and Montblanc has nothing to compare with last year. Montblanc was offered a place on stage during the Keynote. This year much less... Quite disappointed by this, there's not even any way to install the previous year package of the Note4 for my Note5... (if someone has managed to, please let me know, but without rooting my device please thanks
- We have a little bit more thickness this year as you can see. But that's 100% Samsung fault, not Montblanc, let's be honest, that's because of their choice of not having removable battery anymore, but it's still okkk, that remains acceptable....
Last words:
My Note5 is now finally complete I love this case.
That's all guys, hope this humble quick review gives you a better idea of what this cover looks like. I think this is the 1st review of this case on the planet, it's an honor to post it on XDA for you guys
See you

Yeah, you are right. Comes up fine on the web page on my computer. Just not showing on Tapatalk. Beautiful case man. Looks really premium, as I would expect it to. Kinda crazy that it doesn't turn the screen on/off though. That is kinda a bummer. Really good review though.
Thanks,
Andrew

Oh thank you very much, my very first review ever
For the screen, I hope that this will be fixed with a software update cause any cover should turn the screen off as soon as the whole surface is covered. There's no reason for not fixing this (I hope!)
hi,
congratulations for ur mont blanc case... i have a question, does the wireless charging feature work with this case?

Hi
Yes it does without any problem
Thanks for the review. Enjoyed the photos. I too have been refreshing Mont Blanc's page to find the release of the Note 5 cases. Never bothered to click on the "Load more results" link at the very bottom. Funny how it's buried far below.
Also, I don't find that these cases can be purchased online. Did you call to order?
I suspect that the screen staying off despite the opening of the cover may actually be a feature intended to allow the use of the quick note with the s-pen while the screen is off. Just a guess.
I'm very disappointed that the software features found with the Note 4 case are not included this time.
Also, how much for the cases?

Hi
Well, the issue with this case not turning the screen on or off is more when you close it rather than open it. In all cases when you open it it's ok, you need to unlock the device either with your fingerprint or password so what I mean is that in 100% of the time, just after opening it, phone requires a human action.
But when you close the case, voilà that's it. I would love the screen to turn off but no, you forgot re-open it just to press the power button. That's really annoying
OK concerning the purchase I had several phone calls with montblanc by phone but they weren't so helpful they did not really know the date release. So I have been browsing all Montblanc online store you can imagine and the only one I found the case available was the French one. Drawback? They only deliver to France and Monaco. I have someone in France who sent it back to me then.
Yeah, when I say that I really was waiting for this case, I meant it; )
I bought it for 175 euros or 185 I don't remember go and check but what I know for sure is that all stores in the world do not have it. Good luck!
