[Q] Replaced system files and now captivate won't start

Hi!
I replaced libaudio.so & 2 other system files on my Samsung captivate and upon rebooting the just wouldn't start. It's stuck at start screen where it says
at&t world phone. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
HP
More info please.
You did not match the permissions. I am assuming you are running miui. You should not have to change files if you are flashing a captivate package. As started above please provide more details.
You will have to reflash in any case though
Did u try getting into CWM? Did u take a nandroid backup before u update them? Or do u happen to have an earlier backup that u could use to restore from CWM.
Pure entertainment value.
I was using Samsung official Froyo version and rooted phone using SuperOneClick.
Earlier to Froyo I had ROM Manager & ClockworkMod which i didn't do anything with after upgrading to Froyo.
Anything else you need to know please ask, I'm not a techie but I'll try to answer.
Thanks
Back up your apps with tibu, odin to eclair and start over this time don't go deleting stuff unless you both know what the hell it is and making a back up first. In fact Simply adding a .bak at the end of the file will do the trick with out deleting it at all, that way you don't even have to delete it, and if you need it back just remove the .bak part. Basic linux.
Thanks for valuable suggestion Studacris, but how do I do anything when phone wouldn't buzz from the "at&t world phone" screen. By the way I did renamed those original system files but to restore I need to get to system/lib directory.
Do a search for odin. It flashes you to stock without needing to boot into the os, it does it in download mode, it's a peice of software leaked from samsung that they use for repairing/reformatting phones. If you don't have a back up though you will lose all your apps. But it's way better than a boot loop.
That did it for me. Thanks a bunch.

[Q] Looking for a special ROM...

hey XDAs,
when i downloaded a custom rom like modaco, i had every app in a specific folder with framework, resources etc.
now i downloaded one of the stock roms of these but when i tried to open it, i only had a .bin and a .fls file.
is there a stock rom (would be best) version, where i have all apps separated in folders like the custom roms?
my plan is to add/remove apps, change the launcher and change all app icons, starting with this (this is what i have so far) and put the whole package in one rom.zip to have it installed by clockworkmod

when you want to use stock rom you need smartflash or nvflash tool to flash files, it reset everything except your SD card.
.fls file is for baseband and .bin file is a ROM
and when you want to modify sooooooo much, why not use source from MoDaCo, i mean his zip file, all is based on stock ROM with extra benefits.
just modify his files and try installing it into yours, and by modifying i am guessing you wont sign back your zip file after modification.
i tried lots of custom roms so far and had a hard time to get back to stock till i found nvflash
so these stock roms from the thread can only be installed via nvflash?
problem is, by now i´m only able to change some icons or remove/add complete apps AND i would like to have the LG lockscreen, stock statusbar icons, stock toggle bar in pulldown menu and so on.....and no rom but the stock rom could fulfill these wishes
last chance i had in mind was the modaco online kitchen but that is for premium users only.....
i MIGHT sell my phone on ebay and i would like to add a complete rom with stock apps and MY custom icons as a bonus.....
for example: optimus speed stock version but if YOU (buyer) want to, i pre-install some unique custom icons and stuff
modaco FR17 is downloadable for everyone.... and if you go stock then go COMPLETE stock, that is what STOCK mean....
and just nvflash and your problem is solved for selling it, but just remember choose only the firmware from region where your phone is from. ...
and if my post help, do hit THANKS button. feels good.

yeah well, putting back to stock is not a problem.....
i still could change all icons via root manager but that would take to much time and effort.....think i have to give the modaco FR17 a shot. you mean fr17-update-modacocustomrom-2x-kitchen-unsigned no?
yeah, its FR17, its nice ROM feels stock like, but have few extras, which you can remove if you dont like using Titanium Backup, the easy way.

[Q] Need help installing StreakROM?!

Hello, noob here... I need help flashing StreakMOD onto my Rooted Dell Streak 7. I have tried and been unsuccesful. I don´t really know anything about flashing or fastboot or whatever its called. All that I really want to do is back-up my ROM (Nandroid) so i can get dj steves honeycomb.
Step by step instructions (that a noob would understand) would be nice!!! Thanks!
If you don't get how to do it right out of the gate, you need to step way back and learn how android works before you do ANYTHING at all.
Unless you got money to burn.
OK. Well, I figured out how to do all of this with some time. But I am running 2.2.2 Stock and i need to Re-Name a file that does NOT exist on my streak 7! I used ES file explorer to try to access the Install-Recovery.sh and re-name it Please_dont_install-recovery.sh. Though the file is NOT on my device.
I can see you ignored my advice, lol.
Actually if you read DJSteve's first post in the HoneyStreak thread, it tells you step by step how to put honeycomb on and also how to revert to a stock 2.2.2 using nvflash. theres even links to get the proper apps and instructions there as well.
first rule - RTFM, next do it again, if still not getting it, stop and back away.
Even if you know what you are doing there's always that chance you will brick your device.

gps fix for 2.3.4 stock rooted

I was able to get my gps working real good after flashing to stock gingerbread 2.3.4. I am rooted but did not feel like going through all of the steps for flashing any roms so I searched and searched and finally was able to fix it.
This is simple for those with clockworkmod but for those like me that can not use it this was successful for me. Also, I cannot take credit for any of this I am just providing a simple step by step for those who want it, since none of this fix or even the grouping of files was done by me.
follow this link and dl GPS_Fix_Dlev4.2.zip

I believe that with clockwork you can simply flash it but I cannot use cwm so I can not say for sure.
I was unable to rename it to update.zip and install it so i manually moved the files to my phone using root explorer.
first i replaced the gps.conf with H3llstorm's
so copy and paste the gps.conf in the /system/etc folder to your /system/etc folder on your phone.
Than I copy and pasted the vendor folder found in /system to my /system folder...../system/vendor did not exist.
After that I rebooted and went from 88 seconds to lock on 3-6 sats, but unable to maintain a lock while driving, to 9 seconds to lock and maintain a lock on 7-9 sats. I tested it on a 30 min drive through local and highway roads and it was constantly locked on. I stopped it at the end restarted nav, relocked quickly and came home with it working smoothly, I also purposely veered off course to see how it would react and it quickly re-routed.
I think the big change is the gps.conf, that h3llstorm made, good looks, and am not really sure if the vendor folder does anything but it worked so i recommend trying it anyway. The 88 seconds i was referring to was also with the gps.conf file found at
http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/guide-gps-quickest-fix-solution.2022/
It did not seem to do anything for me. This is not really a question but I am relatively new here so I cannot post a thread in the development section. I hope this helps anyone that does not want to flash anything more than stock gb.
I like the idea... the question is do we have to have 2.3.4 stock? Or will it still work with a 2.3.3 modded rom?

He took the fix from Dlev 4.2 which is a modded (reoriented) rom. If u ask if it's for stock cappy based roms only, I would say it's not. Stock roms come withOUT any gps aid and so it's hit or miss thing, while in modded roms the chefs usually have a fix backed in their roms. I'm guessing that's y he pointed out that the fix is recommended for those who are on stock, but no matter what rom your on feel free to experiment.
Sent from a captivated SensatioN
Yea he`s right i just said stock because i assumed the rom would have it preloaded, from what ppl have told me its worked with every version of gb regardless of rom or not. Also i was alluding to the fact that i with stock cant use cwm.

[Q] Help needed on upgrading firmware on Xperia TX after downgraded & rooted

Hi everyone, I need help over here as I'm stuck in the process of rooting & upgrading my Xperia TX (LT29i).
I have successfully downgraded the firmware & rooted it. However, I can't seem to find a stock ROM for Xperia TX (LT29i) 7.0.A.3.197 firmware. I just gone through all the hard ways to create a stock ROM myself & successfully flashed it. Perhaps bcuz of the improper build, my WiFi can't be turned on & there might be other problems coming up later.
Now I am also worrying that would it cause any prob to my phone. I followed this guide to create the ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1931189
& I took the META-INF folder from this custom ROM.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2040989
Plz kindly help that if there's any resource to the stock ROM or any way to fix this, as well as have a look if there is any side effect from flashing that ROM. Many thanks! ><
You could try the repair phone option in SUS, with will reflash the stock firmware on your phone
One way to fix your problem is to copy /system/lib/modules/prima/prima_wlan.ko to /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko. An issue that I found with this solution, though, is the MAC address I got after copying the .ko file is different from what it was in stock. I can't figure out why. But regardless, your wireless LAN should work after you copy the file.

Thx, I'm aware of this option. It's just that I want to know if what I did would create any prob to my phone in future, as well as if there's any stock ROM available on the forum. =)

Alright, will try. Thx. =) Do I've to keep the original file at the original location? Btw, is the way I'm building a ROM a proper way to do it? Do u know is there any ready-built stock ROM available?
Look in the very first thread of this section to find an index of every ROM and ftf

How do I customise the signature on xda premium app?

Links to stock ROM FTFs are available in gregbradley's FAQ here under FTFs. You will need Flashtool to flash these to your phone.
Available stock-based TX ROMs are gregbradley's Assaye and travis82's 240 DPI stock ROM. I haven't tried either since I'm just fiddling about on my own, so I can't tell you how well those work, but Assaye is a good reference if you're trying to build your own stock-based ROM.

I didn't do anything else except copy the file, so the original prima_wlan.ko is where I found it on my ROM.
Also, I've been watching this thread on similar problems with the Xperia V and a solution has been found. I'm planning on trying it out on my TX some time this week to see if it will solve my MAC address woes.

The thread you linked to are instructions on building ROMs for older Xperia phones. Steps 1 - 4 don't need to change for our phones, but the TX uses a different partition scheme (or something), and this means step 5 needs to be different since our system.sin's contents are actually in ext4 format, not YAFFS. A typical Windows installation will not be able to handle the file contents. You can use mounting utilities to read the file and copy them over to your Windows hard drive, but all symbolic file links will basically be destroyed.
Currently, I'm using dsixda's Android Kitchen to build my own stock-based ROM. It's really just a collection of utilities that allows me to make all the necessary file changes and edits that I want before generating a ROM .zip file that can be flashed in CWM. This really needs Linux to work, which is a plus because the file system used by Linux is usually ext4 by default, making it easy to work with the contents of the decrypted system.sin.
If you're planning to build a simple custom ROM, I suggest you read up on how to use dsixda's Kitchen, but keep the following in mind:
- the Kitchen works with a system.img file, which is really just the system.ext4 you get from decrypting system.sin
- the Kitchen will complain about not having a boot.img to work with. Ignore it; I don't think you're building a ROM with a custom kernel, so you don't have to worry about it.
- the default contents of META-INF that the Kitchen generates does not work with CWM for locked bootloaders on the TX. I don't think it works with unlocked bootloaders either. The solution is to stea-... err, borrow the update binary and updater-script from a working ROM zip and edit it for use on yours.
Also, read gregbradley's Assaye ROM thread and TiMiN8R's stock and deodexed ROM thread. They are using dsixda's Kitchen as well, and you can learn a lot about fiddling with stock ROMs from reading about the problems they encountered and how they fixed them.
