Is there anymore information you can give as to why this happened? Were you updating the device when this happened?
The SD card can be replaced. There's some disassembly required but not too much and its pretty easy.
I've upgraded my SD card from the original 16gb to a 32gb. There's a tutorial here on how to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883582
It's possible but I'm not sure that is the problem though. Typically when the device gets stuck on the HTC splash sreen it's a software issue.
Can you get into bootloader mode? Power off device, (you'll have to pull the battery and put it back in) hold down the volume down button and power the device back on while continuing to hold down the volume down button. This will take into bootloader mode a tri-colored screen.
Copy and post back the information back from the bootloader screen and we can go from there!

Well the bootloaders not damaged...so that's a good thing!
Not to rule out but usually if there is an issue with the SD card you would have received an error notification of some sort before hand unless all at once it fried. It's highly unlikely that the SD card may have come unseated in the slot, because it clicks and lock into the slot and there is also a strip of strong tape around the slot to hold it in place even more securely.
I think the next easiest step would be to do a hard reset and see if that will fix the problem. You will lose all your data though!
Power off device (you'll have to pull the battery and reinsert it) Power the device on while holding down both the volume up and down buttons.
Follow the prompts on the screen to hard reset, which is volume down.
If that doesn't fix it, the next steps would be too:
1. Flash a stock/shipped rom to the device.
2. ace the SD card with a new one.

@Ismail Arshad, sorry for the late response.
Usually when an update fails or is aborted that far into the update process, you get an incomplete flash of the rom to the device.
I would recommend flashing the device with a PreNoDo or a NoDo Stock/shipped rom via the Goldcard method. This should get the device to boot back up and running like normal. After the device is flashed with the Pre-NoDo/NoDo stock rom then you can re-update the device through Zune or go through the process of flashing a custom rom because the devices SPL will be downgraded at this point, all you have to do is install RSPL/HSPL to the device and the flash a custom rom of your choice.
Follow the goldcard method tutorial here to get your device up and running again -

I removed the battery when phone was in download mode

Hi,
I have Samsung Galaxy S I9000 with Android 2.2 (FROYO) system upgraded from 2.1 version using oden.
Yesterday I tried to update this system because I have some problem in my phone (shutdown automatically...). I used the same method I used before to UPGRADE the system (oden write SBL above the port number colored in yellow).
Unfortunately, when the phone was in "download mode", oden has stop working on 30% approx. it says that the com port is not available (knowing that this port worked correctly when oden established the connection). So I removed the battery from my phone...... (I know it is a stupid idea).
Now the phone do not start-up and when I connect it to pc nothing happens.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease help me what must I do??
Thank you guys
Can You Boot the phone into download mode manually ?
press volume down + home + power simultaneously
ps that wasn't stupid idea - it was the only solution to turn off broken flashing, but You must try boot it again to download mode and flash again but this time make sure that every file is properly placed in odin: file with MODEM as phone, CSC to CSC and third to PDA.
Oy.
As far as I know losing power to the phone or rebooting the pc while flashing the bootloader is one of the only ways to properly brick the sgs.
This sounds bad...very bad. If the bootloader had been erased but the new one hadn't been written before you pulled the battery, then I fear it is Goodnight Charlie. No bootloader, no phone.
If you can use the three button method to get to download mode as the post above me suggested, you will be alright.
If not....maybe a jig but I would doubt it.

Hi,
The button combination do not work
what did you mean by "jig". I am sure there is a solution
You seem expert so you can find a creative solution
try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551 or give it to nearest samsung service, just say it is broken doesn't start - do never ever say its broken because i flashed it
Long time ago i have bricked motorola, said its broken and wont start - what they did was main-board replacing of course free by warranty

i would strongly suggest you first try building the jig with resistors
if that doesn't get you into download mode, then you can take the phone to your provider.
good luck mate

How can I do this, I know that if the Samsung logo does not appear (like my case), then this method will not work. What do you think?
are you able to see the following image on your phone when you start it up?

if you see this then it can be saved, if its just a black screen you are kind of screwed
Does the phone show any reaction? Does the acreen show anything? Any Sound? If it's just a black stone and doesnt react at all, send it to Samsung and as reason for the phone to be bricked, just say Kies f***ed it up while you tried to sync contacts or so. I did that one week ago and as you can see it's working again.
Well if it shows reaction try building your own jig as mentioned in the thread above or buy one from ebay to boot your phone into download mode.

ONLY black screen. The phone is out of warranty, will this cost a lot? they will fix it by hardware (change a part) or by software?
Try this:
1. Take everything out of the phone (sim, micro sd, battery)
2. Press volume up+home+power
3. Put the battery back in while still having the three buttons pressed.
4. Hopefully you are in download mode.

you can buy the jig from ebay. search for it.
if its gets the phone into download mode, u know what to do then...else take it to some unofficial service centre..i mean ordinary cell phone repairing shop and see if they can fix it.

There must be hope for my 2x that just kinda bricked.

Okay. I really don't feel comfortable trying new stuff without searching everything about it, so I must say I was pretty informed on flashing a new ROM on my 2x.
So I downloaded Rom Manager and flashed Clockworkmod Recovery. Every tutorial I read said I needed to backup my ROM. Also, they said I had to back it up manually, by booting into system recovery, pressing volume down + power, and I kinda ignored that.
I saw the option "Back up existing ROM" or something like that on ROM Manager, so I tried that. My phone rebooted, shown the LG logo, and then it went black and freezed. You can tell the phone is on because the screen stays black, but you can see some backlight. Also, the settings, home, back and search buttons are lit up.
I have to remove the battery to turn it off. I tried booting into recovery with the vol. down + power (I even tried vol. up... and both up and down + power) but it keeps giving me the black screen.
I looked up on the internet to see if someone had the same problem... no one had, apparently.
Sooooo I decided it was time to ask in a forum. Please try to help me, I need my phone working as soon as possible and sorry for my bad english

HeadbangerHS don't be disheartened. Here is a link below which will link u to Smartflash tool which will help you in flashing ur Optimus 2x back to life.Extreme caution is advised.Do at ur own risk. Not to be held responsible for bricking ur device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1008070
If u r unable to download smartflash firmware from the above link another link is attached below. Here u will be able to download firmware according to ur region.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1035041
Note in smartflash tool u will have 2 options to select file.CP bin & AP bin.If u download firmware according to ur region u will have 2 files CP.fls and AP.bin.So CP.fls will go in CP.bin option and AP file in AP.bin option. You will have a factory installed device ( data in internal SD will be erased in the above procedure).
Hope this will help.Happy flashing and be careful to follow instructions:good:

Have you done the KDZ procedure? I had to do it when I started playing with ROMs, and I have to say that you need a computer with Windows XP to do it, I tried with 7 in 2 machines and it did not work. Another thing: you have to remove the battery and plug in the usb while holding the volume down rocker.
Also, are you sure clockwork mod is not working? You cant release the power and volume down rocker until it boots into clockwork mod.

Yes, I tried the KDZ, but on a windows 7. I'll try it on my pc (where I use windows XP).
What happened on the windows 7 is that the phone DIDN'T GO INTO SW UPGRADE screen. And I removed the battery and everything.
Clockwork mod isn't working.
but thank you, I will try it here on my XP once I finish downloading everything again

I has to go into de SW Upgrade screen. Again, no battery, hold volume down (and do not let it go until the SW upgrade screen shows up), plug in usb.
This mode is OS independent, even if you plug the usb on a wall charger (I tested it and it worked), it HAS to get into this recovery mode.
That what you want to see (not my picture, took from Google Images):

Hello
Just to make sure you did plug it in with battery out and volume up button pressed?
If you did and it still doesn't work then your x-loader and U-boot is definitely fried.
Then we can confirm that SW Update is done from already working U-boot (We are trying to modify the KU5900 V30 to fit our phone but we needed to make modifications to U-boot and we too afraid to test because of this.)
If you plug your phone in does your computer detect it at all? (If your computer is running Linux then there's nothing anyone can do short of opening up the device and re-flash the flash memory using specialized tools. Well that's the conclusion I drew when scouring the internet a few days now in search of a method to revive a boot-loader-less Optimus.)
If your computer detects anything then you can save your phone.
You said that the service-centre said that the boot-loader is gone. Did they refuse to fix it?
I'm going to keep on searching to find a way to fix it from shot boot-loader so that we can start working in modified U-boot and of course now to help you too.
Hope you get your phone fixed.
Good Luck

Your ROM is fine since it Read Only
Instead of booting from the Flash Memory in the phone (which doesn't work in your case) I have been looking into the possibility of booting from SD Card. Easy to fix if something goes wrong and doesn't do anything to the device itself. In your case if you can boot from SD Card then you can restore your first few partitions and have SW Update Working again and recover from there.
The Rom supposedly looks for boot devices in the Following Order :
Seral -> SD -> Nand
Booting from Serial is nearly impossible since we can't make a proper connection to the phone without U-boot already set up. LG probably did it on purpose.
Booting from SD is the next thing. I only recently came onto the idea and I still have to figure out how I am going to approach this.
LG has the power to change the ROM so it might not be possible to do this. I will post again as soon as I find out what order our device looks for boot devices.
Good Luck in your efforts.

How did you come to this failure? As I read, there was an error updating the firmware.
Give us a background. What firmware did you flash? KDZ or BIN? Did you modify anything?
Must try bringing up S/W Updater mode. Insert USB and press volume up for few seconds and don't release.
Hmm, maybe wrong ROM flashed? Then it would be changed anything related with x-loader and u-boot...
But when looking this,

Yep. Might want to rest it for several minutes, or hours. Remove battery and let it sit for a while. Then try again booting in S/W update. Volume up (+) first and then insert USB.
Connecting the charger is not indicating the display screen.
NOT S/W repair.
after a failed firmware - Display never light up.
Read about boot from a flash card, please give more files or describe a way to restore the phone

Tried to connect the phone to the computer, nothing happens, the new device is not connected to the computer

I ran some tests today and they were not so informative. Afterwards I found out that the X-loader I used looks for U-boot from the onboard storage first so it might have worked but just loaded U-boot from normal storage and continued as if nothing funny happened.
I'll keep you posted.

Good news! Our Device Supports Booting from SD
I recently figured out that we have a internal sd the is booted from, I always though it was NAND.:silly:
I'll have a test for you to run in a few days, maybe less. I don't expect much more than the LG logo to show, but thats more than what you got, right .

I haven't been able to get a working solution. (I think mine stops when finding working X-loader from device itself then continueing)
I don't have time this very instant to write how I make (supposedly) bootable SD. I won't have time tomorow either, unfortunately. I should have time over the weekend.
Do you have a linux machine availiable? I don't know of a way to do it in Windows or OSX.
This is still a long shot by any chance. You should look into the possibilaty of taking your phone to a cellphone repair shop (Not your service provider a proper cellphone repair shop). It might cost a bit, but it will make your phone work again.

Yes, I have a Linux OS. (Gentoo / CentOS / Ubuntu )
Bricked P970 stuck at LG logo
Hi, I have a P970h which had Huexxx's Zeus 7.0 ROM and I sent CWM to do a backup of the ROM's current state. I continued to work but then I realized the phone was still sitting in th LG logo after quite a while. I dindn't know Zeus had the option to go into recovery by pressing a physical key (G button) multiple times while starting boot and I got into CWM recovery thinking I had pressed a key combination. I was able to wipe the cache and the phone booted normally but as I didn't have the battery in the phone as it was booting when I put the battery and unplugged the phone from USB it still showed as if I had full battery, so I sent the phone to reboot.
From that moment on I wasn't able to find the "key combination" that got me into CWM recovery and I flashed the stock ROM to send it to warranty to my local carrier. They weren't able to get it passed the LG logo and told me that it was due to the phone being dropped as it was showing a little bump on one of the corners of the battery cover and told me that because of that bump the warranty was void.
I have tried to get it out of the bricked state via SMARTFLASH, LG Mobile Support Tool, KDZ_FW_UPD, using the stock KDZ file for my device, injecting CWM and so on, but I'm still staring at the LG logo. I'm able to get into S/W Upgrade mode at any time, and the problem presented is the typical brick with the LG logo showing and the action keys smoothly and repeteadly going on and off.
I'm not new at using ROMS but it's the first time this happens to me and I'm sure if I'm able to go into fastboot or recovery I'll be able to unbrick the device, the first thing that comes out of my mind is if it is possible to reverse engineer a flasheable ZIP file with Zeus ROM so I can access CWM recovery into a KDZ file but I don't think that's possible.
What do you think I can do in this case? Should I feel hopeless?

Your bootloader is fine. If you can go to SW Update mode and device is pysically OK, then you can easily recover. Go to SW Update and follow recovery procedure using SFT. If that doesn't work (asuming you did it right) then your device is physically broken.

I have done the SFT procedure propperly, if I'm not mistaken, that's the tool I initially used to root the device, I have tried the stock KDZ file, converted to BIN and FLS and a couple of BIN and FLS packs posted here at XDA but haven't been able to get it to work. I have only dropped my device twice, once without silicon case and the other with silicon protection, both times the height of the fall was minimal and they were far back from the moment the phone bricked.
After my first attempt to unbrick via SFT I started thinking this was a faulty device and it was a fail waiting to happen since shipped from factory and that's the reason why I sent it to warranty claim. Thanks anyway...

[Q] [I9001] SGS+ bricked/broken

Hey guys,
I own a SGS+ and tried to flash a ROM a few month ago.
Not sure which one it was in particular but it was a 4.1.2 ROM.
Normally it worked pretty well but that time it broke my phone apparently.
So now a few month later I tried to get it to work again.
My phone stucks at the splashscreen, easy said.
It boots till the splash screen and then it's on for about 3-4 minutes I guess and then the screen turns off.
But apparently it still runs because if I try to start it again over the power button it doesn't work.
I have to remove the battery, insert it again and then I can use the power button.
I tried several things and I'm out of information here.
So maybe one of you guys can help me out here?
Thanks for reading!
Try wiping cache an dalvik cache and fix permissions. If that doesn't help do a full wipe and install a new rom. If it still doesn't work, flash a stock rom via odin. Also, which recovery are you using?
Sent from my GT-I9001 using xda app-developers app
Already did everything you mentioned, multiple times.
Well I used at first CWM 6.0.1.2 then switched to 6.0.2.8, then 6.0.3.2, then 6.0.3.6 and then TWRP 2.4.0.0 and TWRP 2.6.0.0.
I tried those who should be for the bricked phones.
Try to flash a new kernel, then flash a new ROM. You should be able to get into download mode...

That's not the problem.
I can get into download mode, I could get into download mode all the time.
I don't think you got my problem right:
My phone stucks at the splash screen.
Doesn't turn off only screen turns off but the phone is still running.
I can only reboot if I take the battery out.
So it boots up to the splashscreen and stucks.
I flashed a few new roms and nothing worked.
If you can get into download mode, try flahing a stock rom via odin.

Download BroodRom(Not ics or jb just the old GB edition) it's a lifesaver.
1.Go to recovery.
2.Format EVERYTHING(data, cache, dalvik AND system.)
3.Download mode
4.Flash broodrom with Odin.
That should work!

Maybe you didn't flash appropriate ROM for your device. Read this thread, especially the first post by our forum mate xsensman and try to check if it could be concerning also your device:

Even through I know how to flash, I tried the two links from the guys above and tried them.
Again nothing happened either.
Flashing was okay, everything was fine.
Unfortunately the phone still stucks in splashscreen.

Mate, something is strange there. With splashscreen you mean bootloop, right? So you see the logo, but the phone doesn't really loads the Android?
OK, here we go: please remove the battery and write down your serial No and google a bit is it really i9001? There are about 20 different types of SGS so just to make sure which model do you have.
That bootloop can happen for several reasons, but I would assume that in your case it happens either for:
bootloader isn't working properly
you haven't flashed the proper ROM for your device.
I suspect very strongly the bootloader, so re-flashing the bootloader via Odin, theoretically, should revive your phone. Just check (as written above) do you REALLY have i9001, (as otherwise -if not- you could brick it with the bootloader for i9001):
First post, "5. Follow the instruction" (all files there)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32144697
I'm 100% sure that I have a real i9001, not a special edition or something like that.
And I flashed before it got broken a few month and the roms worked just fine.
Well but then it broke somehow.
I just see that my phone with the CWM-Recovery can't format /data and hangs.
Can't do anything unless I remove the battery and boot up again.
Could this be a hint for you guys?

I have no idea what may that be, but are you sure your phone is bricked?
Have you tried to use normal TWRP 2.6 instead of that one for bricked phones?
I don't know, but maybe this helps:

@tetakpatak: Yes, I did it like the post "suggested".
@3L4CK_5C0RP10N: No, I'm actually not sure, that's why I wrote "bricked/broken".
I'm not the best guy at those things as you can guess.
No, I didn't tried the normal one, gonna try it now, atleast it's worth trying.
I read the post you linked me here and tried those things, unfortunately nothing happened.
Even tried it with ADB, also no solution found there.
But thanks already for the work guys!
suggest you try the following:-
1) power it down, remove battery, remove SIM card and Ext SD card and press and hold your power button for at least 30 seconds to a min, before reinserting battery and entering CWM recovery
2) In CWM recovery, enter Mounts and Storage and Format every partition, that can be formatted, repeat it twice ( You will lose all your data ) meaning you will be trying to get a clean environment for a fresh start. Do not reboot but pull out battery, press power for a few seconds and insert battery.
If you need your data, in mounts and storage, enter usb storage, here with usb connected to PC you can copy your entiere internal SDcard to PC, for salvage later.
3) get into Download mode, to flash the oldest i9000 Stock ROM 2.3.3 with AriesVe.ops using Odin 4.43 ( with ops ticked) How to flash follow this

[Q] can't get recovery mode to work to reset my s5 mini

I have a new s5 mini that suddenly just gave me a memory partition error that said the I had to restore the device to the factory settings. It had a button that gave the option to reset the phone but when I touched it the phone didn't do anything. So I decided to go to recovery mode and reset it from there.
I asked a friend to boot into recovery mode for me and i guess she used the wrong combination of buttons but she got into a screen that said something about updating the OS and something. So I checked the screen and for some reason I ended up clicking yes to install a different OS (it wasn't my intention to do this btw. it was a mistake). Anyway... I was not at home and the phone just said: "downloading... do not turn off target" but the phone took a long time to do anything so I ended up turning it off.
When I tried to boot back to recovery mode (and realized that the button combination was different from what my friend pressed) i got the android with the red exclamation mark and then it boots back to the problem with the memory partition error. And I just don't seem to be able to boot into recovery to reset the phone and make it usable again.
What can I do with this to hard reset the phone and recover it??
Thanks!!

I bet there is something I am doing wrong here but I don't understand what. I have already tried to change USB ports and I am already using the original USB cable that came with the phone. (remember my phone is new. I've had it for one week so far, so I know the cable is good and the phone is too). Is it maybe the wrong firmware I am getting?? Which one should I get?
Thanks!
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum.

From my little experience, this is not the right firmware for your unlocked international device, the NBS region as stated here is for Nicaragua (movistar) carrier, you stated that it's for South America (Open Line), either way this one is for carrier specific, branded version not for the unlocked international version like yours, I'm not sure which firmware you should use but you can ask Admins here.
I own the same device as you, may be you can use one of this roms:
G800HXXU1ANH4
G800HXXU1ANGG
G800HXXU1ANGC
Good luck
I had similar issue
I am from Algeria but I bought the s5-mini (G800H/DS) from England
The cause of the problem : my phone went off while doing a factory reset because of the battery !
The problem : when I put the battery in the phone , the least boots directly into Odin mode & stucks in Downloader Mode (could not do normal boot)
-I couldn't turn off the phone .
-When I pull the battery and put it back the phone starts immediately without pressing any button .
-The combination of long press (Volume up+ Home Button + Power) restarts the phone to the same mode Downloader Mode (could not do normal boot)
-This method didn't work also :
1. Turn off your phone
2. Remove battery and SIM card (if you have SIM card in your phone)
3. Wait 5 minutes
4. Replace SIM card and battery but not SD card
5. Press and hold Power button for 20 seconds.

-I couldn't know the build of my s5-mini or what firmware to pick .
-the pc did not recognize the phone (tried different computers & drivers & odins & usb...etc ).
What worked for me : Long press on (Volume up+ Home Button + Power) , when the phone vibrates before the samsung logo appears release all buttons and immediately press only Volume Down , the phone will boot in Odin Mode with details different from the previous one and without the error(could not do normal boot) , and the pc finally could recognize it .
I could see under Odin Mode build number which was G800HXXU1ANH4 , I kept looking for the firmware ,but couldn't find it .
I found only G800HXXU1ANGD and dicided to try it because i was so tired , and it worked till now
sorry if u cannot understand me , because i'm not that good in English
I hope this will help .
