Hey guys. I went back to a stock rooted rom on my t879 and was wondering if it came with the wifi calling widget? i can't find it anywhere. Wifi calling works just fine its just I'd like an easy way to just turn it on or off when i want.
This is what i'm talking about:

Did this come pre-installed?
can anyone with an unrooted t879 verify whether this widget was installed out of the box? I honestly don't remember seeing it when I first got my note

Hello. I have it on the stock ROM. I can assure you that it is not present on my SGH-T879. The widgets in the stock ROM are: AccuWeather.com, Application monitor, Classic clock, Simple clock, Funky clock, Modern clock, Contact, Days, Digital Clock, Analog dual clock, Digital dual clock, Email, Gmail, Google Play Books, Google Play Music, Google Search (icon widget), Google Search (bar widget), Google+ Posts, Home screen tips, Lookout, MobileLife, Picture frame, Play Store, Power saving, S Bookmark, S Memo, S Memo direct, Month, Mini task, 3 days, Today, Mini today, Agenda, Task, Mini agenda, Social Hub, Software update, Traffic, Voice talk, and YouTube. Remember to hit the thanks button if this helped!
It is enabled through your wireless and network settings. If you select "more", you can enable wifi calling there then you can also pull up the wifi calling preferences. Any time you are on wifi calling you will see it in your status bar. A blue icon means you're connected, a red one means you have an issue.
Also, when you're actually on a wifi call.... the notification icon turns green.
I had to get my new SIM card replaced once already because I kept getting the red icon that hoggass referred to.... Turns out my SIM card was not wifi call compatible (even though it was a new one that came with the new Note). Since T-Mobile replaced the card, I've had no issues whatsoever (and I use wifi calling 99% of the time)

With Nova Launcher, you can set a gesture to bring up the Wifi Calling settings. I have mine set so if I touble tap on the home screen, I can quickly toggle the wifi calling.

Is there an app or something that allows me to switch between 2g and 3g networks? I have a widget which takes me directly to the settings but I would love an app that I could use instead. Especially something that could for instance switch automatically on location change using something like locale or Settings Profile.
I am rooted if that helps.
Thanks
Needn´t app.On screen dial you type *#*#4636#*#*,and switch it in there

right on, but isn't there a "beautiful" widget or something similar that simply toggles between the two?
here is one i use
2G-3G OnOff
Thanks for the replies, but it's not quite what I am looking for. I already use the widget ghostrida suggests, but really I want a way to either change it directly from the home screen or even better a way to change it using locale or something similar so when I get home and am on WiFi, the phone will automatically switch to 2g networks saving my battery - especially as I have poor 3g reception at home.
Thanks

I dont believe it is allowed any longer in the android sdk due to security issues. I could be wrong though I know a lot of the settings where moved to a secured section.
What you could do is create a contact with the number mentioned above and add it to your homescreen as a widget. If you want to get really in depth with it, you could add a picture of something that would signify edge for you (i.e. a 2g icon or something) and it would show up like that on your homescreen.
Setting it as a contact doesn't work, ive tried that before.
closest solution is an app in the market known as phone info
I use an app c alled switch network type 2g/3g it's not quite what you're looking for, but instead of being a widget it shows up in the notification bar only when you drag it down. it doesn't automatically change it for you, but it also doesn't take up a spot on your homescreen and it's available anywhere the notification bar shows up.
Hi, I am just sharing some things I would like to see in the future.
An option to completely disable vibration. Although I switched it off from the settings, I still had to go to WhatsApp to switch it off there too.
When I set an alarm through Google Now, it sets vibration on by default. I need to always go in to Alarm and remove the tick.
I like the keyboard, would be nice to be able remove a word from the dictionary from the predicted text on the keyboard by holding the word for an option to remove(similar to Swift Keyboard).
Multitasking, If I long hold the multitask button it should clear all the background apps rather then swiping them one by one. It would be very useful to have a pin icon next to an app to pin it down so you can keep an app running like YouTube in case if you are watching a long clip.
Camera is fantastic, I miss the pause feature while recording. Now I do use the Movie Studio, but it takes time to convert(Samsung has the pause feature I am talking about).
3G internet, there is an option to disable background data which is fantastic to keep free software from advertising on your phone especially if you aren't on an unlimited data plan. What is missing is that although I activate "restrict background data" there should of been an option to put some applications as exception like WhatsApp.
Many might not know, but if you long hold WiFi icon from the quick settings it turns on the WiFi, same for Bluetooth. I would like to see this reverse. One click toggles on and off and long press takes you directly into the menu..
I will add more things in the future.
I am not complaining, just features I wouldn't mind seeing. I am really happy with this phone.
Well i'd like to see BT working while WiFi is enabled too...!

My alarm doesn't go into vibrate mode on its own when I set it with Google Now.
And I also agree that there should be a button to close all the programs out, but I think there are third party apps that serves the purpose.
Wifi not stall when in sleep mode, so notifications work.
Mobile network 3g to work properly on my sim, old but still works fine on other phones.. 1 minute works/ next minute stalled..repeat, 2g works ok
Speed to match other phones with s4pro
Volume raised to decent levels
non stupid quick settings.. c'mon how can they bodge it twice ? it's quick settings not brain surgery
Hopefully I get bonus points for not posting the typical 'Halp! I bricked my Gear!' or 'Halp! I can has no roots!' type threads.
I've been searching and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I've got my Gear rooted w/Recovery & null 23 flashed. Generally that's the hard part of rooting but I've never done this on a watch before and now I'm not sure how to set it up. I have a Sony Smartwatch 2 also and really like most of the functionality of that watch but wanted something that didn't look quite so... dated. I got a Gear and the functionality was a joke in comparison so I opted to root/flash it to get it to do what I want it to do. Now that I've done that I'm not really sure where to go but I'd like it to function similar to my SW2 with a little bit more customization. For instance, when I flashed null 23 there were a LOT of options I wasn't sure if I wanted and needed. I did some searching but all I could find was mostly people having difficulty doing the processes I've already done. Nothing on post-root/flash setup.
Which launcher do I want? I have Nova & Apex and I'm not really sure which one is better and why.
Notifications? How do I set these up? On my SW2 I really like how it handled notifications for apps like Gmail, Hangouts, SMS, etc. and I'd like to replicate this on this watch too. When I go into my Gear Manager on my phone all of the apps under notifications are grayed out. I'm assuming this app no longer controls my watch or perhaps it does when the stock launcher is activated?
Is there a description somewhere that explains each of the options when you flash the ROM? I have a feeling that I installed a LOT of things I don't need but since it was my first time and I hand't yet messed with it I erred on the side of more than less so I could maybe see what it all was.
I would like a home/watch screen with a custom watch of some sort, the current weather conditions, & a few shortcuts maybe. I miss how I could double tap the power button and set that to launch an app. I used this for the Media Controller app which allowed me quick access to controlling the audio on my phone which is one of the big features I need.
I guess in all I'm just confused by what all I want/need since it's basically a Motorola Droid on my wrist w/o a cellular or WiFi radio or GPS and rather than a full featured device I just need a better smartwatch. If someone can point me in the right direction via some links or something or if a few people want to hold my hand through a few more specific questions I have while I get this figured out I would appreciate it.
Thanks for reading.

Up to the user. I like apex these days (phone and watch), used to use nova

That doesn't sound right. What phone/rom are you using?

Trial and error. I haven't installed it ina long time, but I'm pretty sure it was self explanatory

Using custom launcher allows you to add any widgets you like to a home screen. Power button [annoyingly] isn't really a power button; there is details how to change this in null faq. People like gesture or pie control type apps for launcher programs

No, they aren't. I watched a video on how to install and all of the options he had while installing were self explanitory. My install of null 23 had lots of screens of options and I only understood what about half of them did. I would like a page somewhere that explains what they all do so I can make up my mind prior to installing and know what I want & don't want.

I understand adding any widgets I want but I see other people's screens and their screen looks much different than anything I've seen on an Android device so I'm not sure how to go about that.
1. Can't remember. They are similar
2. Hmmm... 4.3+ rom? Latest gear manager?
3. The few I can remember; choice of launcher, gapps (google based apps - people, calendar, play services, etc), power button mod (power button turns screen on/off), stock Samsung apps
4. No matter how it looks, it's exactly the same as phone if not using touchwiz launcher. Touchwiz launcher is not really customisable. I use the stock weather clock widget on home screen, shortcuts on second screen (app drawer, media controller, notifications, camera, tasgear), zooper widget with notification counts on third screen
I'd like to know the differences because I can choose which one of the two to install during ROM flash and I'd rather not flash the one that I'm not going to use.
Yes, 4.3 and the latest version of Gear Manager. However I just noticed something quite odd... the 'Other Notifications' on/off slider was set to off this time. I know for a fact that it wasn't last time because I checked that when I checked on 'Additional notifications' and they were gray. I went back and for a few times checking and it was set to 'on' and green. After a reboot they were grayed out again but this time I noticed that little slider on the previous screen was set to off. Slid it on and now all of my additional notifications are active and I can check and uncheck them. So I've got Gmail, Hangouts & one other one checked. I should be getting notifications on the watch now?
I know what Gapps is and I found what the power button mod thingy does in another thread. Seems if you want the power button to function on the 3rd party launchers the way it does on the stock launcher you need that installed. I did see where this can create issues at times with other functionality so I will keep an eye on that to see if it's going to create any issues for me. Still not 100% clear on that but I think I chose the right option. I also installed the stock apps because there's a media player controller and a couple of others that I really like as they are.
I guess I just keep seeing people with screens that look entirely different than mine. Mine the clock is kind of cut off on the top and the bottom and I know the top is cut off because I selected to install the status bar at the top (which I would likely not do next time I flash the ROM.. kinda pointless) but I can't understand why the bottom part is cut off. I disabled the little dots that show which home page you're on and it still gets cut off by the dock. Not really sure what I'm doing wrong.
So how will this work for notifications and phone controls? Like I know with my SW2 I could enable/disable WiFi, BT as well as a few other options and even mute, silence and normal my ring tone. Can I do this somehow from this watch with these launchers? What about notifications? I've enabled those as I stated earlier while I was typing this and still haven't got a single notification on the watch. Do I have to install the full Gmail & Hangouts APK to get the notifications and if this is the case I'm not sure it's going to behave the way I'm looking for. I really just want basic popups with the sender and the message the way my SW2 does and I'm not sure that a miniature Android device is going to be able to do this. Edit: while I was typing this I just got a notification for Hangouts & it was a full screen pop-up with the sender and the message for a few seconds so maybe this will do what I need it to do. Nothing for Gmail yet though.
Also, since I know I want the status bar across the top gone I will likely boot into recovery & flash the ROM again with that feature disabled. When I do that I will take the time to list each option that I see as well as if I know what it is or not and maybe someone can answer the questions I have about it and then I can go through with the flash with the options I want and don't want correctly set.
You'll really have to have a play yourself. I'd suggest downloading both to your phone and checking them out on an easier to use (ie bigger) screen
Yeah, sometimes it can turn off like that. I'd suggest clearing gear manager data/cache, uninstalling gm, reboot, install gm. If it's ticked, you should get notifications (when screen is off)
Correct. It's either one or the other
You'll need to play with settings to get that correct. Widget padding I believe
I think you may need to reset watch as well as reinstall gearmanager just to get rid of the gremlins it sounds like you have. The watch hardly controls anything on the phone (only what you see in gm). For bidirectional stuff, give tasker a try and check apps in themes and apps section
Yep, just reflash if you want to change any settings
All,
Maybe someone else has an answer to this. I have a Gear 1, with Tizen on it (Rooted) and a Galaxy S5 connected.
In Gear Manager, the ONLY option I seem to have with weather is to use location based services (on/off). If it is off, weather does NOT show up on the Gear at all.
When it is on, it shows the weather and updates fine, but the city name is completely wrong, although it appears that the weather forecast is fine. The city name is likely being pulled form Accuweather using location based services. (lets call it "city1")
Now the weird part. I also have the "Weather & Clock Widget" version 3.7.9 on my S5, with my city typed in, not using location based services. ( "city2" )
On the gear, when I touch the weather, it shows me a screen for "city1" that I can tap and go to the accuweather forecast. I can also scroll right and see "city2" that I can also tap and see an accuweather forecast for it (which is the same forecast)
Now that everyone is confused, I guess my question is: Can I use the weather WITHOUT location based services on my Gear ? I typically like to have that turned off on my S5 (to save battery)
I want one option for weather to show up on my Gear, and want it to be "city2" ... the correct city name.
Your post gave me a headache. But when I turn location off in Gear Manager the other cities I input manually in the Samsung weather widget still appear (and update). I'm using a N3.

Imagine me writing it ! lol
When I turn of location services in Gear Manager (Weather) ... the watch will not show any weather at all, just a message that says: "Tap here to use location info on mobile device"
when it is turned on, it seems to be pulling down 2 weather forecasts.
Hey everyone
I've tried looking through all the settings
How do I get rid of the text saying ee WiFi calling?
Many thanks
Marcus
Wish I knew the answer. When it's on WiFi calling, notifications are hidden behind the notch. Very irritating.
Someone must have an answer ?
I guess you can disable 'Display carrier name' in settings. Just search for it. I believe the mobile operators often add an extra 'Wifi' part to the name thus making it somewhat extra long. Not sure
about the 'Calling' part, I don't get that, instead on my phone I just get a VoWiFi symbol and the carrier name (with WiFi) scrolling over from time to time. I'm on 128.
On mine, I have two choices. It can say "EE Wi-Fi Calling" - which is far too long, or I can remove the carrier name from with Apps & Notifications > Notifications & Status Bar, but then there's no icon or anything to tell me Wi-Fi calling is available.
Previous phone (LG G5) simply showed the Wi-Fi calling icon instead. It's a bit of an annoyance, but I guess I'll have to live with it. Almost everything else about the phone is brilliant.
