Extracted from Optus ICS OTA update that started rolling out a couple of days ago. I'll also be crossposting in the radio thread in dev section, but as the OP hasn't been updated in.... a while, thought I might as well make a thread for it here too. Download, upload, share, do whatever you want with it, but if you try it consider giving a bit of feedback to help other users decide if they want it.
Installing is the usual drill, either copy the zip to sdcard root and reboot to bootloader. Or the fastboot method.
You need s-off to flash a radio.
If you're updating from a gingerbread radio, you might also need to format cache in recovery.

I flashed new radio and all is good,i work in a all steel walled building and where i was getting 2 bars am now getting 3,but this is just an initial impression i will have to try it longer to tell. Previous radio was an 11_m.
Hello, I want to ask you about radio: Nonverbose has a Radio: 20.4805.30.0822U_3822.11.08.29_M.
I dont understand when I enter boot loader I get :3805.06.03.03 what is the difference between the two?
Secondly, i make s-off by your procedure and flashed Cool droid revolution by Surajkumar; but it isnt a GB its ICS?
Can I flash your [Radio]3831.18.00.28_M?
Whatis the difference between this one and the one I already have?
Some posts I read show also different radios for froyo/GB users. Will the radios posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129014 also work on my phone?
Sorry for the noob questions but I don't want to brick my phone :/
So this radio was extracted from the optus ics ota. Will it work for other networks?

Using this new radio now. Slightly better reception than my previous 24M radio. Was sticking with it primarily b/c the battery life was exceptional IMO. We'll have to see how well this one lasts but so far so good.

Main differences could be better call quality, increased reception, network performance, battery life, wifi performance? (not sure about this)
It's up to you to try it and find out, you can always change to another version if it doesn't suit you.
Never flash a Froyo radio as it will brick your phone but you could easily revert to gb although it should require formatting the system in recovery.
Considering you are on an ics Rom, I would recommend an ics radio.
I have installed this version to test it out and reception does seem to have increased. Data speed through the network seems a little faster but much more stable, less spikes in download speed.
I transfer a lot of files to PC via wifi hotspot and samba server on the phone and the speed seems to have dropped significantly, although this is probably a Rom/RIL issue. I'll be testing some ics roms this weekend to see the difference.

Your stAtement depends on what radio you are on at the minute ?
But yes it is an ics Rom and as long as you label is correctly before flashing it you will be fine. Or you can use adb method.

You do not flash the radio in recovery. Just copy the zip file to sdcard root and reboot to bootloader. In hboot mode, the phone will scan for the file and ask if you wish to install. Accept and wait for confirmation.
As you are on a gingerbread radio currently, yes you will have to format cache in recovery. When you get the confirmation the radio is installed, press power to reboot, remove your sdcard then press power, hold it and volume down to re-enter bootloader, then select recovery and insert sdcard. Then format the cache and reboot phone normally.
It would probably be easier to flash in fastboot, but if you're not comfortable with fastboot commands, the above procedure will do the same thing.
I updated and installed the new radio, I have question why do we format cache in recovery?and why do we remove then insert the sd card?

Cache needs formatting because it's been resized I believe (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) . Sdcard is removed because when you enter bootloader the hboot mode would detect the pg32img file again and ask you to flash the radio which leads to you not being able to enter recovery whether you choose yes or no.

Place on the root of your sd card and boot into HBOOT.
(Power on the device while holding volume down)
wow......... all i can say is wow..........
When the official 2.2 OTA is released I'm assuming it will contain some kind of radio upgrade - perhaps a newer version than this, but perhaps older. Now that we have S-OFF, even flashing this radio and a different ROM will not prevent us from upgrading to the latest official OTA, correct? My concern is flashing radios too often could result in badness.
And, also since we have S-OFF, we can now "downgrade" from the OTA without any issues, correct? (i.e no sig checking)
Thanks, adrynalyne! Works like a charm.
I have unrevoked forever installed, but I can't install any of the images. I tried to do the custom splash, and then I tried the radio update, PB31IMG.zip

Behind the scenes it may perform better. This radio also may be required for the later official OTA 2.2 so you can also be one step ahead.
Again, nothing is official on specifics. It's just an "updated" radio which usually just gets better.

i thouught radios can only be flashed when u have radio s-off? as far as i know.. revolutionary doesnt provide radio s off. (not sure, been in a cave for too long )
I don't know though, I not even sure what are radios and I went ahead to flash them. The last I flashed was a radio from Android Revolution HD.
So is radio the thing which require you to open up a command prompt alike thing and type in something like " fastboot" or what. .
Sorry for asking a noob question , what do radios actually do other than affecting your signals and calls? ?

Radio is not command prompt, it is the range of frequencies your phone uses.
It controls calls and call it quality, signal strength, gps, texting, 3g/hspa, wifi, etc...
Maybe someone here can help me.
I have a custom recovery/bootloader, and what I have done is copied android revolution HD and CyanogenMod7 onto my memory card.
I go into recovery, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, factory reset THEN install either of these ROM'S
it installs and says its completed then I go to reboot the phone. It's just got the HTC logo/text with white background and does not change. Not sure what is wrong here. It's S-ON, but is rooted apparently, so I can flash custom ROM'S just not flash radios etc.
I did however try like 5 custom roms, and the only one that works so far is 'MiUi' but it is buggy and wifi does not work. Dunno why.. don't really like the look and feel of it though. So want to try cyanogenmod or either android revolution.
I can't even go back to stock as easily, I've tried, (ran the .exe, opened up %tmp% and taken the rom.zip and did a series of commands to do it) and comes back with failed. I have HBOOT 1.16.0000 though and all of the stock ROMs say 1.13.0000, so not sure what to do.

Hey all,
So after doing a bit of research I see that a way to potentially improve battery life (CM7, as Android System, currently using ~60% battery) would be to try new radios. Now from my understanding using certain radios are dependent on what provider you have? is this true? This thread shows a list of radios, but as a radio newbie all these numbers don't mean anything to me.
My questions is, is flashing a new radio a good idea? I currently have 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M and have a Virgin Mobile Canada Incredible S that I have unlocked an am using on TrueMove mobile over in Bangkok, Thailand. If I should be flashing a new radio does anyone have suggestions as to which one I should be using?
I have the same question.
same issue - I am very scared to flash a new radio but I think I need to (delayed texts, people saying my phone won't ring when it has full battery and service). I am in Singapore. The main thing holding me back is using an ADB which I don't understand how to do.

you don't need to. you can put it on the root of your sd card named PG32IMG.zip and reboot into the bootloader and it will find it and say click volume up to start flashing.

Speaking from my experience with a clone Touch Diamond, I can certainly say that the radio has a bearing on battery life. A poor radio (as supplied in my clone) caused the phone to be forever 'searching' for a signal which caused excessive battery drain. Updating to a better radio which gave superior reception drastically increased battery life (as well as meaning I could use the phone more often).

There is loads of stuff in other threads about having to be radio S-OFF, or permanant S-OFF with a gold card rather than temp/removable S-OFF as with revolutionary, in order to flash a new radio, but its all pretty conflicting. Some say that revolutionary is more than adequate while others you have to have a handset of a certain age in order to do it i.e it wont work on the newer ones! This is why I havnt bothered flashing a new radio yet, but if you say you have done it then I may try and give it a go...wait till the new Nik - Trinity ROM is uploaded first!
I used revolutionary, so should I not be flashing a new radio?
It makes me feel safer that scooby used revolutionary, but also since I'm in Singapore I'm not sure if i'll be affected differently. I really think I need to flash a new radio and if it's just as easy as moving the file to the SD card and rebooting into the bootloader then it doesn't seem to dangerous

Just make SURE you don't do it if you don't have much battery left, leave the back cover on so the battery can't fall out, and let it flash completely until it says finished.

ok went searching for update in settings and noticed firmware is at 1.5 , I didn't think it could update automatically without a sim? so I'm guessing DREAIMG.nbh didn't take? Just messed my recovery? The last one LIKE SO , I would like to try the rogers_1.89.631.1.nbh but it seems to have disappeared from the net. I'll look into the gold card idea this weekend. Thx for your input :good:

But did you say you have root? Do you have a custom recovery? Maybe you can go about this in a different way, can you post everything on your bootloader screen?

I read your post to m3talmouth:
Find amonra recovery in xda, latest is 1.7 something
Put on root of sd card and name it recovery.img
Open a terminal and type
su
If you see a # procees
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
If you have an error it could be you need to add the flash image bianary or you have a bad download or named it wrong,
I figured It might work for me, now I have AmonRA recovery 1.7 :good:
So now following the guide you posted earlier http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Dream/Rooting_Branded_EBI1s, I should install the engineering SPL, then the EB1 port file, then flash cm 6.1.zip?
Hey good! Well if you have a custom recovery you are most of the way there, now remember you have a rogers dream and need tgo flash the proper radio and spl, make sure they are listed for your phone, check md5sums, flash radio first then spl then id recomend cm5 (faster) flash rom and gapps
Do this right, just the other day someone flashed either spl first or a curropt image and got a brick. Only warning so you don't but as long as you do what I said above you'll be safe

Well...I i did a nandroid backup, tried i now have the eng SPL installed, tried the CM 6.1 as it was easier to find for my phone + the port file, but it stuck at rogers boot screen. I've seen some posts for 2708 kernel but it never mentions this in any of the install guides. I have found CM 5 roms but only with the 2708 kernel and no mention of rogers, so I'm staying clear of those for the moment. Will search some more for CM 5, its not Android 2.2 though is it?
Cm5 is 2.1 but smoother than cm6 on these phones. You can flash the one in cm wiki just flash the right kernel on top of it. If you want to do the 2708+ update (I say a good idea) then just follow ezterrys instruction in his thread. Download radio and SPL, check md5sums, and then flash via fastboot. Now they can also be flashed in recovery but I don't recommend it. After that you can flash any of the newer ROMs and it won't mater that your phone was once rogers. But older ROMs (mostly eclair and older) will need a different kernel flashed on top of them

Success!!!!! I have CM 5.08 + 2708 installed and working, thx for everything, will try this mod for a while to see if it covers all I need, if so I'm good to go. :good:
Awesome! You may need to move to froyo if apps you need aren't avalible on 2.1, there are many good aosp and cm variants just straight cm6 is kinda poor on these phones, try a few out, make nandroids so you can change back easy, there are about a dozen 2.3 and 2.2 roms that I feel run great on the dream and I personally keep a back up of each for a quick change

Do not forget that your phone is no longer EBI1.
You will no longer need to flash EBI1 ports.
On a side note, looks like you somehow got the 1.33.0014 update.
1.33.0014 is a bootloader released by HTC somewhere last year for HTC Dream. They claimed it was unlockable, and you could flash with it. I did the unlock process, and I can promise you that HTC duped us. It's not unlockable. The unlock does absolutely nothing other than change the text at the top. I even had someone reverse some of the code, and they claimed the code for doing fastboot flash doesn't seem to be there.
yeah the .0014 official unlocked bootloader is a crock, when it first came out i was about to test it and someone else here tried first, turned into a nightmare for him so i tell all to stay away! some phones it actually isnt too bad if better ways like hacked bootloaders or radio s-off has been found for it, but its a pain and you usually need to flash a rom in recovery, extract the kernel from the .zip and then flash the kernel through fastboot.
so yeah any phone that you dont need this option, stay far away from it!
I am on the stock radio which shipped with my phone.
3805.06.03.03_M is the version.
Which is the latest radio available for our device? Are radios OS specific or can they be used on any ROM?
I'm currently using szeszo's CM10 ROM.
My current Radio has decent battery life on WiFi (around 3 hours of screen on time) but with Mobile Network my battery dies in around 8 hours (with barely 30 minutes of screen on time).
I have to follow these steps to install the radio right? - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711445
Last question(I promise), are Radios region-specific?

Check my signature...it has a link for the latest radio the ...19m
to flash you have to be S-OFF.
if you are simply download the PG32IMG.zip file..place it on the root of your sd card and reboot to bootloader... the radio file will be detected and you simply follow the instructions
make sure to do an md5sum check first otherwise you may brick your phone if you flash a corrupt file.

also make sure you have decent battery backup..you dont want your phone dying in the middle of a flash
If its PG32IMG then just put the file on the root of your SD card. Reboot into bootloader and the bootloader will automatically pick it up and will give u a set of commands. Just click yes or no (volume up, down to scroll and power button to confirm). Then wait for the process to be complete.
If its in radio.img format, just fastboot flash the radio (I assume you know how to do fastboot flashing) using the command:
fastboot flash radio radio.img
Regarding md5sum checks, I dont really deem it necessary. I just look at a few pages of the thread and that will usually tell me if the radio works or if there needs to be additional file(s) added replacing some sort of file is rare. You most likely wont encounter it If other people say it works, then you shouldnt have any trouble whatsoever with the flashing process.
And the latest radio is 19_M or 24_M? And will it work on JB roms?

Any Radio will work with any ROM. The only compatibility with Radios is to the device. If you flash a radio meant for an HTC Desire, you could possibly end up bricking your device (now this is just an example). And the logic that latest radio is best (I see it in you cuz u suggest latest radio) is a load of bullcrap really. Just try them out and see which one you get best signal and battery life (although it wont be significant). If everything is ok with your current radio, dont bother switching. I know that any and all activities related to rooting really could lead to a brick but I think flashing radios is probably the most dangerous of them all :/
In regards to the actual compatibility, it is worth noting that when i flashed a different radio and tried to boot up, I actually could not boot up for some reason. I got stuck in a never ending boot. So you should probably take a backup of your current ROM before flashing the radio. Although this wont prevent bricks from occuring (cuz Bricks are like hardware related sort of unless you use JTAG or send it in for repair. Note: The HTC Engineer can refuse to fix your phone), it could prevent things like never ending boot or boot loops, i dont know you name it.
Thanks for the help guys! I successfully flashed the 19_M radio. My phone refused to boot initially, but I wiped the cache and everything was fine.
