Place on the root of your sd card and boot into HBOOT.
(Power on the device while holding volume down)
wow......... all i can say is wow..........
When the official 2.2 OTA is released I'm assuming it will contain some kind of radio upgrade - perhaps a newer version than this, but perhaps older. Now that we have S-OFF, even flashing this radio and a different ROM will not prevent us from upgrading to the latest official OTA, correct? My concern is flashing radios too often could result in badness.
And, also since we have S-OFF, we can now "downgrade" from the OTA without any issues, correct? (i.e no sig checking)
Thanks, adrynalyne! Works like a charm.
I have unrevoked forever installed, but I can't install any of the images. I tried to do the custom splash, and then I tried the radio update, PB31IMG.zip
HBOOT says wrong image or no image for everything
what am I doing wrong?
check your SDCard format...has to be FAT32
just flashed thanks !!!!!
Now do we have to re root if we flash the baseband? I'm sure we do but I just want to double check bein that we have nand unlocked.

No, it will just upgrade your radio.
What is the advantage of upgrading the radio? Is this radio related to my signal? Would I get better signal?

I haven't had much better signal. NW Ohio
I have... I was one of the people who got worse signal once updating to the 2.x radios. Now I am back where I was pre-update (and about 12 db better in signal strength)....

Behind the scenes it may perform better. This radio also may be required for the later official OTA 2.2 so you can also be one step ahead.
Again, nothing is official on specifics. It's just an "updated" radio which usually just gets better.

I don't mean to sound like a noob or anything, but i've seen this around alot and haven't been able to find much info.
I've come to the understanding that the SPL and the radio have something to do with the phone's boot loader, but that's really all i know.
Info about my phone is in my signature.
Do i want to upgrade my SPL and/or Radio?
Any info you can give me would be very helpful.

Only upgrade your spl if you plan on going to something such as a hero or blur rom. They basically rearrange your phones memory partitions to give more to .system and /data to allow for bigger roms to be used. If you plan on staying on cyanogen, any spl will work as of right now.

Of course not the radio must be changed if you want to use custom roms. The whole point of having root access if loading custom roms that are faster than OTA.Think about it like having a Government ID and still waiting in line at the airport, pointless right? The Special SPL allows you to install larger roms(eclair/hero/blur/pulse/)cyanogen doesnt need the special spl though.

i thouught radios can only be flashed when u have radio s-off? as far as i know.. revolutionary doesnt provide radio s off. (not sure, been in a cave for too long )
I don't know though, I not even sure what are radios and I went ahead to flash them. The last I flashed was a radio from Android Revolution HD.
So is radio the thing which require you to open up a command prompt alike thing and type in something like " fastboot" or what. .
Sorry for asking a noob question , what do radios actually do other than affecting your signals and calls? ?

Radio is not command prompt, it is the range of frequencies your phone uses.
It controls calls and call it quality, signal strength, gps, texting, 3g/hspa, wifi, etc...
Maybe someone here can help me.
I have a custom recovery/bootloader, and what I have done is copied android revolution HD and CyanogenMod7 onto my memory card.
I go into recovery, wipe dalvik, wipe cache, factory reset THEN install either of these ROM'S
it installs and says its completed then I go to reboot the phone. It's just got the HTC logo/text with white background and does not change. Not sure what is wrong here. It's S-ON, but is rooted apparently, so I can flash custom ROM'S just not flash radios etc.
I did however try like 5 custom roms, and the only one that works so far is 'MiUi' but it is buggy and wifi does not work. Dunno why.. don't really like the look and feel of it though. So want to try cyanogenmod or either android revolution.
I can't even go back to stock as easily, I've tried, (ran the .exe, opened up %tmp% and taken the rom.zip and did a series of commands to do it) and comes back with failed. I have HBOOT 1.16.0000 though and all of the stock ROMs say 1.13.0000, so not sure what to do.

Hey all,
So after doing a bit of research I see that a way to potentially improve battery life (CM7, as Android System, currently using ~60% battery) would be to try new radios. Now from my understanding using certain radios are dependent on what provider you have? is this true? This thread shows a list of radios, but as a radio newbie all these numbers don't mean anything to me.
My questions is, is flashing a new radio a good idea? I currently have 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M and have a Virgin Mobile Canada Incredible S that I have unlocked an am using on TrueMove mobile over in Bangkok, Thailand. If I should be flashing a new radio does anyone have suggestions as to which one I should be using?
I have the same question.
same issue - I am very scared to flash a new radio but I think I need to (delayed texts, people saying my phone won't ring when it has full battery and service). I am in Singapore. The main thing holding me back is using an ADB which I don't understand how to do.

you don't need to. you can put it on the root of your sd card named PG32IMG.zip and reboot into the bootloader and it will find it and say click volume up to start flashing.
I recommended the very latest radio, 09.03.27

Speaking from my experience with a clone Touch Diamond, I can certainly say that the radio has a bearing on battery life. A poor radio (as supplied in my clone) caused the phone to be forever 'searching' for a signal which caused excessive battery drain. Updating to a better radio which gave superior reception drastically increased battery life (as well as meaning I could use the phone more often).

There is loads of stuff in other threads about having to be radio S-OFF, or permanant S-OFF with a gold card rather than temp/removable S-OFF as with revolutionary, in order to flash a new radio, but its all pretty conflicting. Some say that revolutionary is more than adequate while others you have to have a handset of a certain age in order to do it i.e it wont work on the newer ones! This is why I havnt bothered flashing a new radio yet, but if you say you have done it then I may try and give it a go...wait till the new Nik - Trinity ROM is uploaded first!
I used revolutionary, so should I not be flashing a new radio?
It makes me feel safer that scooby used revolutionary, but also since I'm in Singapore I'm not sure if i'll be affected differently. I really think I need to flash a new radio and if it's just as easy as moving the file to the SD card and rebooting into the bootloader then it doesn't seem to dangerous

Just make SURE you don't do it if you don't have much battery left, leave the back cover on so the battery can't fall out, and let it flash completely until it says finished.
Do not remove the battery under any circumstance.

Tried to flash the radio, but installation aborted on me! Got alpharev S-OFF and using 4EXTRecovery. Tried it again and same thing....was I right in that only only older handsets will work with temp alpharev S-OFF rather than perm gold card S-OFF? Hopefully Nik - Trinity's new ROM will have this radio anyways.
I just installed this radio on my handset. Not sure what classes as an old or new handset but mine was delivered 5 days ago. It is Revolutionary S-Off with CWM Recovery.
Can't say I've noticed any change to reception though.
I have an Incredible 2.3.4 with this taken from HBOOT
Incrediblec XC Ship S-On
HBOOT-0.92.0000
Microp-0417
Touch Panel-ATMEL224_16ab
Radio-2.15.10.07.07
Ok, so here is my problem, I want to be rooted and I want S-off, but I cannot get anything done. The phone wouldn't recognize the SD Card, I got that taken care of. The phone does the 5 Vibrates when turning it on unless I have the USB plugged in and I do a battery pull. (This really screws up updates/RUU fixes where updates are necessary). And along those lines I tried an RUU back to 2.1 which didn't work because of the restart issue, but then I was able to run the update after booting into HBOOT USB but the RUU failed ultimately.
I've tried to gain root access through unrevoked 3.22, it simply says failed to push recovery, terminated. I've tried rooting using zergRush, it tells me that it has found a path and that its sending zergs, then it just stops without telling me what happened and kicks me back out of adb shell. This is a recurring problem, I will be in adb shell and then randomly and for no reason it was kick me out to the root of my computer.
I'm working on a Windows 7 64 bit machine, I have been using an ADB mini download, but have also tried working through the installed ADB with equal results.
If anyone has any idea of what I could be doing wrong or different please let me know. I really need some kind of help because I am at a major loss.
2.3.4 on the Incredible has not yet been rooted, therefore the rooting software (Unrevoked) has not been updated with a root method. That would be why it's not working for you. I've never tried to downgrade to an old version using an RUU, so I can't really speak to that.
Also, this was posted in the incorrect forum. You should have posted in the Q&A section, as this has nothing to do with development.
What about the radio?
I was wondering this same thing because my wife's Incredible isn't rooted, but she's on 2.3.4. If she ever asks me to root her phone to put something on it or give her some feature not otherwise available, I'd rather be prepared if possible.
While looking over the UnRevoked site, I noticed it didn't really mention the Android versions it worked with, just the radios. I wonder if it's possible to just flash the radio to 2.15.00.07.28, which is rootable, according to the UnRevoked site, and try the UnRevoked Forever tool?
The radios are pretty easy to get here after all.
I'm not recommending this without some confirmation from someone with a lot more experience rooting than I have though, so Caveat Emptor!
Just a thought.
Cheers!

You can flash radios in the bootloader, but, having S-ON, the zip file may need to be signed, so i'd say NO it's not possible to flash a radio w/o root.

Extracted from Optus ICS OTA update that started rolling out a couple of days ago. I'll also be crossposting in the radio thread in dev section, but as the OP hasn't been updated in.... a while, thought I might as well make a thread for it here too. Download, upload, share, do whatever you want with it, but if you try it consider giving a bit of feedback to help other users decide if they want it.
Installing is the usual drill, either copy the zip to sdcard root and reboot to bootloader. Or the fastboot method.
You need s-off to flash a radio.
If you're updating from a gingerbread radio, you might also need to format cache in recovery.

I dont understand when I enter boot loader I get :3805.06.03.03 what is the difference between the two?
Secondly, i make s-off by your procedure and flashed Cool droid revolution by Surajkumar; but it isnt a GB its ICS?
Can I flash your [Radio]3831.18.00.28_M?
Whatis the difference between this one and the one I already have?
Some posts I read show also different radios for froyo/GB users. Will the radios posted http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129014 also work on my phone?
Sorry for the noob questions but I don't want to brick my phone :/

Main differences could be better call quality, increased reception, network performance, battery life, wifi performance? (not sure about this)
It's up to you to try it and find out, you can always change to another version if it doesn't suit you.
Never flash a Froyo radio as it will brick your phone but you could easily revert to gb although it should require formatting the system in recovery.
Considering you are on an ics Rom, I would recommend an ics radio.
I have installed this version to test it out and reception does seem to have increased. Data speed through the network seems a little faster but much more stable, less spikes in download speed.
I transfer a lot of files to PC via wifi hotspot and samba server on the phone and the speed seems to have dropped significantly, although this is probably a Rom/RIL issue. I'll be testing some ics roms this weekend to see the difference.
Is this radio 3831.18.00.28_M an ICS radio? Can i flash it in recovery using knowing that I have a cooldroid rom?
Does this statement work in my case"If you're updating from a gingerbread radio, you might also need to format cache in recovery."?

Your stAtement depends on what radio you are on at the minute ?
But yes it is an ics Rom and as long as you label is correctly before flashing it you will be fine. Or you can use adb method.

You do not flash the radio in recovery. Just copy the zip file to sdcard root and reboot to bootloader. In hboot mode, the phone will scan for the file and ask if you wish to install. Accept and wait for confirmation.
As you are on a gingerbread radio currently, yes you will have to format cache in recovery. When you get the confirmation the radio is installed, press power to reboot, remove your sdcard then press power, hold it and volume down to re-enter bootloader, then select recovery and insert sdcard. Then format the cache and reboot phone normally.
It would probably be easier to flash in fastboot, but if you're not comfortable with fastboot commands, the above procedure will do the same thing.
I updated and installed the new radio, I have question why do we format cache in recovery?and why do we remove then insert the sd card?
best

Cache needs formatting because it's been resized I believe (anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) . Sdcard is removed because when you enter bootloader the hboot mode would detect the pg32img file again and ask you to flash the radio which leads to you not being able to enter recovery whether you choose yes or no.
Been using this for a few hours now, seems good.

Yeah, it's my radio of choice now. I originally reported wifi thoroughput was decreased but it seems to have picked up and now it's faster than with my previous radio.

Yeah. Wifi is stronger. Back on .11_M my wifi was only one bar even about 2 rooms away from the router :/

I wish the Wi-Fi wouldn't die when holding my phone in landscape with 2 hands
