I'm wondering if there are any advantages to having the Haykuro SPL 1.33.2005
I've done some research and found out how to flash it(yes I have PVT), but not much information on if its worth risking it. I know it would allow me to run Hero and whatnot and Cyanogens?

You can run Cyan on HardSPL or even the stock SPL. You only need the Haykuro SPL for more internal storage space for the OS in the phone, which allows for bigger ROMs to be used. It will also give you adequate space for whatever you may want on your phones internal memory
Well I am running HardSPL atm, but Hero kind of intrigues me and I wouldnt mind trying it out. But if really doesn't help out that much, I guess I'm going to stick with my setup right now. ty B-man0007
Its not a big risk. If you have everything done correctly, it should work without a hitch, I've had to install it twice because I've had to re-root my phone once after flashing RC29. Its no big deal really. You only read more of the one with broken phones cuz they're the only ones who say anything. The vast majority of people who do not brick their phones just don't announce it so publicly, but if you look at most people's sigs, you'll see that they also have Haykuro's SPL.

I thought if you tryed to downgrade from this SPL that it would brick your phone? and about the sig thing, yes I have noticed that as well, and I kind of want to jump on that boat.

Its only if you downgrade the radio that a brick could occur (not sure how upgrades will affect it, which is why I haven't upgraded yet lol)

You sir make a good point, I think I'll be staying at the HardSPL then.
If you flash RC29, it replaces your radio and SPL so it doesn't brick your phone. From there you merely reflash the radio, then the SPL. Not sure about radio upgrades... I don't even see a radio thread that most other phones have, which is why I'm not so worried about upgrading radios, I've stuck with this radio for... months, which is longer than I've ever stuck with a radio on my Touch Diamond. Still, its your choice, but... TouchFLO is very pretty...

Stop teasing me!! lol Let's see how much money I win at poker tonight and that will decide
Haykuro's SPL is my favorite, because all that extra space makes things run much faster, on top of giving more room to Cache's if you have Apps2SD. Big time themes also fit onto it, and if you follow instructions closely, should have no problem installing it.

I've NEVER been able to get any JacHERO build to go anywhere near fast...which is a bummer, it definitely is very pretty . It should speed up your phone for any matter, just because of the extra room. It's like RAM on your computer; the more you have of it, the more space there is to use and make things faster!

I'm running JacHero 2.5 w/o Rosie and my friend is using Cy and he was the one that pointed out myne may be even faster and he on Cy 3.6.7.2. That was from his mouth not mine. Not to mention There's now a go around to make sure you get EVERY text message on Hero so you never have to miss another one again
so if i was to flash the danger SPL with what im running right now, i have the 261 radio, it wont brick? then i will have to reflash my cyanogens right? and just out of curisoity i know the rom doesnt need swap but does the spl?

If you have the new radio and a PVT board you should be fine. Boot up holding camera and power and check if you have a PVT board. The new spl allows you to install roms like Rogers, Hero and the Sapphire. So unless you want to change from cupcake builds you will be fine without it, but it is nice to have. So yeah just make sure you have the new radio and you will need to reflash your current build afterwards. Good luck!

It's hard to say how much risk there really is, but Cyanogen bricked his replacement phone trying to flash the "Danger" SPL about an hour after unboxing it and um, the guy knows what he's doing, you know?
I flashed it within a couple hours after Haykuro first posted it and luckily didn't have a problem, but if I had waited until everyone started bricking I might not have been so eager. It's definitely a roll of the dice, but that's part of the fun, right?
I'm actually in the middle of backing up my SD card and setting up another SD card with the SPL update on it then I'm going to flash it. put the cyanogen rom on my partitioned card and hope everything goes smooth, ill report back when I'm done. Anyone know how to flash my EXT2 partition so i can start fresh?

haha ya as soon as i heard cyan bricked it i wouldn't touch the dangerspl. thats when i stopped reading all the threads to insure i didn't get a brick lol
but he did flash the dangerspl after people said that it wouldnt flash with his recovery just to test it... so theirs still a chance i might do it lol
please note that there are apparently different versions of the 26I radio. Make sure you flash the one haykuro posted for safetys sake
Should I wipe before I flash the Radio and stuff from haykuros google page?
which spl is the best to use?

as long as you have the new radio it won't brick, if you're using cyanogens recovery remember to physically press alt-s, home+back, don't use the trackball. That goes for radio and spl, not roms.

The recovery may be effected by the C&D because of nandroid. Cyanogen removed everything until the details are provided by google.
i am thinking of rooting and modding my nexus one, but i am a little bit afraid of bricking it and voiding the warranty doing so. from what ive read the only way to brick your nexus one atm is to flash the"radio". not exactly sure what the raido is (assuming it has do with carrier/phone frequency).
is there any way to brick your phone besides modding the "radio" which i hope cant happen on accident.
ps:sry if this is a nub question, don't wan to throw 600$ down the toilet.
Okay I really don't quite understand why but EVERY SINGLE DAY there's someone asking the SAME question...
If you search a bit you'll EASILY find an answer to your question.
So, how CAN you brick your phone?
1. Flashing radio and interrupting the process.
2. Flashing SPL and interrupting the process.
NO OTHER WAY.
Cheers.
Possible via subjecting the device to a devastating Solar EMP.
I'm just sayin'.

Yeah, this is kinda misleading.
Here's another way. Flash your SPL (not interrupt it) and NOT flash to a radio compatible with your SPL will brick it to (or vice versa).
If you double check everything and make sure your good, its easy. If you do it when your tired and in a rush, you can brick pretty easily. Killed my magic that that way.
But currently, on a retail N1, we can only brick it with an incorrect/interrupted radio flash... we cannot flash the SPL "yet!!"
Exactly why I never will flash a radio or spl, though I am good at following directions - I don't have any reception issues, or any other problem that would require a radio change.
Just stay away from it all if you don't want to any troubles or worries.
Or it can be like mine and just randomly die.

true, but you have to live on the edge sometime . as others have said don't interrupt the process and make sure you have plenty of battery or you're connected to a power outlet. it can take 5 minutes or so to complete. i was in downtown Boston yesterday/today and ERE27 wasn't working for me... so i flashed ERE36B and it was working much better. go figure. if ERE36B is flaky when i get home, i'll swap back to ERE27.
Though, if you just take your time, not rush, and follow every single instruction (all well written btw, never had a misleading one) you shouldn't have an issue. Just take your time

I thought it would be better to ask here than make a new thread but can you flash a radio strait on the phone and not need a computer? Because I have always thought you needed a computer.
More noob questions.
1)flashing the radio, is there any reason to do so? inst the radio for your carrier, and the only reason to flash it is to unlock the phone (or allow it to be used on a different carrier). mine is unlocked so will i ever have to flash the radio to mod my phone?.
2) flashing SPL, it seems that it is not possible to do so atm for the N1. would there be any reason for me to flash the SPL if im looking to root/use custom roms.
thanks for the replies, sry for nub questions.
flashing the radio is done a few different ways, I prefer the .zip method where you can install it just like a ROM. Very quick and easy.
As far as why you flash them, some people have better luck with different radios. I bounce back and forth between the 3 and haven't found a better one yet. But never the less, newer radios will typically be better as far as signal and connectivity. On my G1, the latest radio bumped me up to 4 bars where before I only had 2....wish there was one for my Nexus that did that! LOL

Is there a way to get it w/o re-rooting it to get clockwork recovery?

This information is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. You DO NOT need deathspl, and in fact, there are FAR FAR better ways of gaining EVEN MORE internal storage than what is offered by deathspl. Look for the "MTD" threads in the dev forum. They can gain you up to about 30 MB MORE free space than deathspl.
Caps...come on now.
What ever, not getting baited into an argument or anything, but it's kinda odd, if you go check the requirements for the majority of the roms they pretty much all have one thing in common...hmm danger/death spl. Yeah, yeah, yeah there are several ways to achieve more space, but if a dev says danger spl is a prerequisite to flashing his rom, which the majority do... Im not the guy that's gonna yell out in caps about it and tell people its bs and tell them to use a nonrecommened method...

Heh, yeah, call me old fashioned, I just like to use the good old standards & its really not risky as long as you know how to follow directions, but yeah anything with "danger" or "death" in the title you should take with caution...
its the oddest thing though, these forums have an amazing amount of information in them if people would just do a little searching...

Requirements for ROMs were written before MTD was invented. Devs are reffering to Haykuro SPL because of need for space - MTD gives you SAME result. Of course, engeneering SPL gives you some pros like ability to flash radio from fastboot or other great features, but if you not interested in that kind of changes - you can flash 2 zips without any risk of brick and you're good to go, you have either more space at /system and far more space on /data for your apps.

Hey all,
So after doing a bit of research I see that a way to potentially improve battery life (CM7, as Android System, currently using ~60% battery) would be to try new radios. Now from my understanding using certain radios are dependent on what provider you have? is this true? This thread shows a list of radios, but as a radio newbie all these numbers don't mean anything to me.
My questions is, is flashing a new radio a good idea? I currently have 20.2805.30.085AU_3805.04.03.27_M and have a Virgin Mobile Canada Incredible S that I have unlocked an am using on TrueMove mobile over in Bangkok, Thailand. If I should be flashing a new radio does anyone have suggestions as to which one I should be using?
I have the same question.
same issue - I am very scared to flash a new radio but I think I need to (delayed texts, people saying my phone won't ring when it has full battery and service). I am in Singapore. The main thing holding me back is using an ADB which I don't understand how to do.

you don't need to. you can put it on the root of your sd card named PG32IMG.zip and reboot into the bootloader and it will find it and say click volume up to start flashing.

Speaking from my experience with a clone Touch Diamond, I can certainly say that the radio has a bearing on battery life. A poor radio (as supplied in my clone) caused the phone to be forever 'searching' for a signal which caused excessive battery drain. Updating to a better radio which gave superior reception drastically increased battery life (as well as meaning I could use the phone more often).

There is loads of stuff in other threads about having to be radio S-OFF, or permanant S-OFF with a gold card rather than temp/removable S-OFF as with revolutionary, in order to flash a new radio, but its all pretty conflicting. Some say that revolutionary is more than adequate while others you have to have a handset of a certain age in order to do it i.e it wont work on the newer ones! This is why I havnt bothered flashing a new radio yet, but if you say you have done it then I may try and give it a go...wait till the new Nik - Trinity ROM is uploaded first!
I used revolutionary, so should I not be flashing a new radio?
It makes me feel safer that scooby used revolutionary, but also since I'm in Singapore I'm not sure if i'll be affected differently. I really think I need to flash a new radio and if it's just as easy as moving the file to the SD card and rebooting into the bootloader then it doesn't seem to dangerous

Just make SURE you don't do it if you don't have much battery left, leave the back cover on so the battery can't fall out, and let it flash completely until it says finished.
Do not remove the battery under any circumstance.

I recommend that one too. The first post in the radio thread hasn't been updated to include that one yet, but it's in this post on page 11 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18208077&postcount=101
I'm not sure that radios have any effect on battery life though.

Thanks so much for this link! I will attempt the flash. What is this RIL thing people speak of and what do I do with such things? I know that certain RIL files should match the radio but where does it go? do I just flashing it before/after the radio?
Thanks in advance!

Don't bother with the ril, in this case it isn't actually necessary.
Would you see a bigger difference on battery from flashing a new radio or a new kernel such as tiamat?

That's really an unanswerable question since it depends on so many things...

It works fine..
Just make SURE you don't do it if you don't have much battery left, leave the back cover on so the battery can't fall out, and let it flash completely until it says finished.
Do not remove the battery under any circumstance.

Tried to flash the radio, but installation aborted on me! Got alpharev S-OFF and using 4EXTRecovery. Tried it again and same thing....was I right in that only only older handsets will work with temp alpharev S-OFF rather than perm gold card S-OFF? Hopefully Nik - Trinity's new ROM will have this radio anyways.
I just installed this radio on my handset. Not sure what classes as an old or new handset but mine was delivered 5 days ago. It is Revolutionary S-Off with CWM Recovery.
Can't say I've noticed any change to reception though.
