Galaxy Note rooted and want to install rom, where to start? - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I'm a n00b at flashing roms and could really do with some advice. If anyone could give me some advice or a mini guide I would be very grateful!
Basically I rooted my phone last night and was looking to install the kingdroid 7.3 rom (or 7.4 if you could help me out with a link?)
The method I used was the SD method:
Reboot to recovery mode then install:
Root_SuperSU.0.95.Only-signed
Reboot to recovery mode again and install:
Root_Busybox_1.20.2_Only_(No_SuperSU)-S2-Update3-signed
Ok so now I think my phone is rooted. I am currently running 4.0.4 ICS and XXLRK baseband.
What is the best and safest method to install kingdroid from here? I seriously have no idea where to start after reading numerous threads I've gotten myself a bit confused!
Thanks a lot for any help. If you need any more info please let me know!

Im assumed you note was rooted.
1) download mobile odin thru google play and install it.
2.) Download notecore/ speedmod kernel in tar/odin file.
3. Open mobile odin, press kernel button and find the kernel tar file.
4). After choose the right kernel file, scroll down and press start flash firmware.
5. After reboot, your phone will come with safe kernel with recovery as well. ( check kernel thru *cpu spy*).
6. Boot into recovery mode ...and u ready to flash anything. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AT RELATED OP /INSTALLATION METHOD BEFORE FLASH ANYTHING, SINCE EVERY ROM MIGHT HAVE DIFFERENT INSTALLATION METHOD.
Good luck mate.

Ok that sounds good to me. But how do I flash the phone? Do I just download kingdroid and flash through recovery mode? I heard it is risky to do a full wipe or something like that? Or do I flash using Odin and a USB?
Would be great if anyone could give me a slight more in depth guide to the flashing part to the process. Bonus would be if it involved flashing the latest kingdroid rom :good:

Just as you said. Go to recovery and flash kingdroid 7.3. Thats all.
Reminder: please make sure you on notecore or speedmod kernel before flash any new rom and wipe anything.

I reckon.. After flashing speed mod... U will get cwm.... U can make a nandroid backup then...

Hmm...since you at stock ics 4.0.4. I dont think you need to do any nandroid backup. In case anything happen, you can always go sammobile.com and download latest stock rom and flash thru pc odin.
If you really wanna do nandroid backup, i will recommend you flash speedmod. That was because speedmod is more faster than notecore in terms of backup.
But for nandroid restore, myself will prefer abssy4.2. Since chasmodo also mentioned that no guarantee 100% safe at both kernel for doing restore.

Which rom should I use for first flash?

I'm looking to root my phone.
I read a lot on xda and I found a lot of interesting information.
But right now I don't know which kernel/rom combination to use.
I've looked around and I don't really like the feel of ICS. I prefer GB.
So what now?
custom kernel and stock rom?
darky rom?
cm7?
Thank you!

Darky Rom is a good place to start for your first custom rom flash.
All you need to do is reboot to download mode.
Connect your phone to your PC
Open Odin
Install an RE version of Darky Rom
If you do want to try ICS Slim Rom is very nice and i have been running it here for a few weeks with no issues

For ics this is a good thread of bench marks for the various roms.

Thanks for the benchmark thread.
Does CM9 have swype?
or which rom does have it?
For swype just search for swype beta and you can install on any rom. I've tried a lot of the ics roms (cm9, weui, aokp, cna, team icsgs, dark night, slim ics). My favourite was Team ICSSGS. Unfortunately this has not been updated in a while so currently on slim ics which is fast becoming my favourite.
If you havn't flashed ics before i recomend either following ics for dummies or ics333 installation thread in the general section of the sgs forum. Once you've got an ics rom and basics then it is easy to update to slim or any other rom you choose.

This is flashable through cwm recovery. If you want to use it in mobile odin, extract the "zImage" file from the zip, put it to your sdcard and show it in mobile odin.

well forgive me i forgot to add a question mark at the end of the sentence but eventually my sentence started with "is" so apparently it is most likely a question. i was just asking if this is the same kernel that has a bug?
this is what's written:
Kernels that are likely affected - it's too early to be sure:
XXLPY official ICS release for the Samsung Galaxy Note (thanks to Chasmodo for sacrificing his device to find this out) - One hardbrick has been reported in the past few days, others say it's safe, use at your own risk! In my opinion one hardbrick is enough not to trust it.
@weng_cas
yeah this looks to be the same LPY kernel chainfire released shortly after the official german ics rom was released
chainfire's post as to whether its safe or not:

You would need to be on GB to be able to upgrade to ICS...
1st Step is to Update your phone to GB: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum/threads/samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000-flashing-to-original-rom.46/
2nd Step is to root your phone: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...-i9000-rooting-gt-i9000-2-3-3-india-ddjv9.47/
3rd Step is try any ICS ROMs available: https://www.fixmystuff.in/FMS_Forum...dwich-4-0-x-for-samsung-galaxy-s-gt-i9000.83/

Why all the spam?
- CF ROOT
- CM7 or straight CM9 will be enough too imho!
I prefer going to CM9 through CM7. Giving me less problems.
So CF ROOT - just pick a CM7 nightly here http ://get.cm/?device=galaxysmtd - a CM9/ICS ROM of choice and let's go!

you have to flash it twice, to get in new recovery, i mean the update.zip from rom manager...
after then flash CM9 twice, because on the first time it bootloops- dont panic! just do a three combo (to get to recovery and then flash cm9 and then any ICS Rom of your choise)
did it work?

For some reasons the CM9 was giving errors
(THIS APPLICATION HAS STOPPED WORKING)
so I flashed another rom [ICS ROM]Tiramisu+ I.C.E.A.G.E. V.1.9.6 I'M DIFFERENT!
and its working great.
I was thinking if there is any way by which we could keep multiple roms on phone. SO that we could choose at the boot which one to logon.
I wish if that was possible.
Sorry again ratl0lz, but this is not spamming. I have already written something for helping others and just asking them to visit the page instead of reproducing everything here. Just see the reply to your reply, just writing too technical may not help for someone who does not know things as good as you know.

Well, just because it's the only ROM I can install. Still want to upgrade, but I can't do anything. USB isn't working, ROM from external SD don't install...
don't get me wrong, cm7 is a good rom (especially if you installed Temasek one + vadonka kernel) - battery is great with this combo (i was using that combo for almost a year until cm10/10.1/10.2 versions of tonyp roms + pengus kernels came out in the beginning of 2013)...
but cm10.2 has some usefull stuff and many improvements over cm7...
i can only suggest you to read some more threads in the developer section... moving to a new bootloader can give you some more benefits if you're into the newest roms (since the rom developers usually support only the new bootloader first, and then they make an old bootloader versions of their roms/kernels as well - or they don't - it's up to them and their free time)
i'm also considering to finally switch to a new bootloader - but i'm still waiting for the new cm11 (kitkat) roms and 3.1+ kernel to become stable enough for a daily use...
it's up to you to see what you need most out of the rom... but some reading before flashing is mandatory... if you've read some more - you'd already know your problem before i wrote my post and explaining the old/new bl issue...
once a week someone comes up with the same problem because he doesn't read about bootloaders or is just lazy to read the 1st posts in the rom threads...
i hope i helped... cheers

How is Cm10.2 working for you? Battery life/speed/etc
I had 10.1 I believe and it was horrible.
I can' install new bootloaders, etc...as I can't enter debug mode, nor do anything
just to make sure...
your usb doesn't work when the phone is fully booted into the rom or it doesn't work for SW upgrade?
did you try other usb ports? (don't use usb hubs for this, especially for SW upgrade stuff)
did you install the correct windows drivers for the phone?

it was horrible if you used the official CM10.1 nightlies... not if you've been using tonyp cm10.1 based roms and pengus kernels... believe me...
currently i'm on the tonyp "The rom" build 26 + pengus kk126 kernel (no ram hack version)
battery lasts for almost 2 days with moderate use (around 3 hrs screen on + wi-fi on, some calls, some messages)
phone is snappy, i don't have syncs turned on in any app...
phone is oc-ed to 1500mhz (min 216, max 1500mhz), and if you care about the benchmarks - it gives a solid 9000+ in antutu...
for a 3 year old phone - i'm satisfied enough...
btw what version of cwm do you have?
your starting point can be here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
and please at least read the 1st page of the thread if not all of it (for user comments)
there is also an option to install the correct windows drivers and a tutorial for windows 8 (i'm on win7 x64)
I've tried different ports, different cables, different copmuters...I've read that a lot of people have this issue though, especially after upgrading to CM7...which was my case. Ever since I haven't been able to do it

your usb doesn't work when the phone is fully booted into the rom or it doesn't work for SW upgrade?

omg...this is a puzzle (at least for me ,maybe some on can solve this in a snap, but it really seems complicated)
first, we need to resolved why smart flash won't recognize your device...than everything should go with no problems

what color is INSTALL APX in aio toolkit...is it gray or is white like every thing else, when you connect phone?
if you have installed all drivers(lg united, nvflash drivers, apx, adb usb drivers...that is in tonyp basketbuild downloads in p990 staff-->various ) and if you are not did this: SU660 Users: Download Both P990 & SU660-AddOn packages. Run & extract the P990 first and then extract in the same folder the SU660-AddOn. AIO-Toolkit will be converted to support SU660 device
by mistake i really dont know where is problem...

[Q] Please help, my Note has boot-up problems

Please help me out. I know I shouldn't have done it alone but it was tempting.
I already rooted my phone (Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000), and I was trying to install the PhilZ Recovery.
It said on my recovery menu that it was successful, and as I try to reboot my phone it does not show up the Samsung logo like it usually does. After the "Galaxy Note GT-N7000" screen" all it does is enter a black screen. I tried wiping all user data, cache, and Dalvik cache with the PhilZ recovery, but to no avail.
EDIT: It's on ICS 4.0.3
What can I do to restore it back to normal? I didn't flash any custom ROMs or anything, just the recovery. I just got my phone, and I don't want to have to wait to spend for another one. Please help, thanks.

If it's a new phone you shouldn't have too much data on it, so what I would do is just install a custom ROM (There are lot's of them out there for the N7000). Sounds like you can still boot into PhilZ and already wiped the device, so just copy the ROM and necessary files to the phone's SD and install away
You should charge your battery to at least 80% before fiddling with things like that I believe

I flashed PhilZ-cwm6-XXLS7-XJB-3.1.zip.
You flashed a JB kernel? Flash an ICS philz kernel to get it to boot up. Or install the rom again using Odin.

It was? Oh my God I should've looked it up...so that's why.
Where can I find the kernel that's fit for mine?
Sorry for my carelessness.

I don't understand how can I pick the kernel.

In Philz main thread there is a topic "Update to all ICS 4.0.4 kernels from 3.71 ---> 3.99:"... these are 4.0.4 Kernels.. Try one of these and check if the phone boots up..
OR
As you have already done wipe data, you may also install a new custom rom like Aryamod...
You wrote that you just got the Note.
So why do you want to stay on ICS and try to install things you obviously do not understand - and risking your device?
Select an JB or KK Custom Rom, follow the specific installation instructions and be happy with your new-born device.

Thanks. I'll have a look at it.
So I downloaded the stable version of CyanogenMod: "cm-10.1.3-n7000.zip"
Is it compatible with the recovery I have?
