[q] should i rom?

Hi XDA!Greeting from Hong Kong.Now,should I rom my X8?I felt scared when i rom.I broke my phone TWO times.
the first time:wrongly rom X10 rom on my X8
the second tome:restore with XRec
HELP!

Is all depends at you, there is a lot of threads how to root your phone install rom and what you should have and know for it...no one can decide about it, only you

ofc 2.1 enclair is damn featureless and ugly interface.

there is lot of feature on that

if follow guide properly u wont have much problem in rooting,except if u read jus few words from a particular thread and go for it

[Q] Need help From 2.2 to GB 2.3.4

Hi everyone,
I still have Nova v7 on my Optimus Black.
But im thinking about changing to Gingerbread, and install Marvel v5.
Can someone, take some time and explain me in detail what i need to do to make that happen?
Note that my erecovery, CWM and all that stuff, is still from the time when i installed NOVA v7.
Im really a noob, on this things. i dont know what erecovery, and CWM and all that stuff are for .
another question, any way to save my games and data that are on the phone and not on SDCARD? (or do i need to format SD CArd aswell )?

That depends, do you want official or modified ROM, like Zeus, or Echelon, or Marvel,...?

i want marvel.
and btw how do i update my eRecovery and CWM ? in NOVA V7

Install rommanager, install latest cwm from within it, download the rom you want to sd card, reboot to recovery ( inside rom manager) do wipes according to marvel thread (dalvik wipe is under advanced) then find all the other steps in my noob how to have fun

How to install the .zip, cause i dont remember the steps exactly. So look the up in my how to.
1 download rom
2 update cwm
3 boot to cwm
4 wipe
5 install zip
6 reboot and enjoy

See I also have got that problem, of not being able to stay kind, but mostly (at least I hope so) I think back, how it was, when I was a total NQQB. Then I always remember, how cool it was, when some1 guided me step by step and giving me links, information, or whatever I needed... Think back of the first days of yours here... Didnt you also feel like: "WDF? WDF? WDF? What do I have to to? WDF? Dont understand...? What's that mean? Can someone explain? Am I really so much of a noob? I thought I understand a lot of computers, but now I feel like a complete idiot... How should I EVER get a custom ROM to my device? "
Those were my thoughts a few months ago... And now see all my posts, how to's and so on here... The main thing is: Stay cool, help out as good as you can, dont flame, cause 1 day you ll need help too and be thankful for a kind advice, that is being given.
So guide that man kindly to his goal (or whatever you call it) and feel happy, cause you really helped some1 out.
I just couldnt reply longer, cause I had to learn meanwhile and my traffic was full, so I had to ask my neighbor, to share his WIFI with me

and what about my data i have on my phone (not SDCARD)
anyway to retrieve that?

Hope you made a nandroid, like suggested in my NOOB HOW TO... :-/ Backup everything with titanium Backup. This is gonna save all settings, game data, sms, contacts,... contacts can also be saved by syncing with googlemail, or other accounts, or you export them to the sdcard (go to contacts --> menu button --> export TO SDCARD/USIM) or with the LG app (LG Suite i think it is called).
Hope you didnt delete everything already...

Calm down. We are becoming a lazy bunch i tell ya that. Nobody wants to read. They just wants answers imidiately. That's no problem, someone will always help. What i can't stand is, never saying "thank you" people. If somebody helps you a simple thank you should be in order. Nobody gets paid for helping....
And don't forget the times you were a noob, desperately looking for help. So always help others.

because i was thinking that i needed to install the official 2.3 to be able to install MArvel.

No, you can directly flash marvel, zeus,... no need to up or downgrade before, except you flash a stock rom, without ext4 file support

V20P KDZ and Megatron torrent here !!

I just updated with LG updater in recovery mode and downgraded from
V20C without going back to stock. Then rooted with Megatron
with no problems.
I am not taking any credit for either of these files, just giving a good secure

hi im new here im waiting 2 get my thrill already ordered it so...
well i got some questions since this will be my 1st andriod phone...
i already know that v20p is the official at&t gb rom and well ill follow some steps that i already read to upgrade it.
so my questions are...
1. the phone is suposed to come unlucked if i upgrade/switch to custom rom... like whith the iphone that u have 2 unluck everytime...
2. im planing to upgrade to v20p but what if i want 2 install that Thrillz GB to overclock the phone? do some1 know if it works? and well ive read that it isnt another rom so i guess it is some modification on the already installed rom or am i wrong?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by unlocked in your first question. but to answer your second question: thrillz gb will not work with v20p. You'll have to flash something like v20c.

Unlocked and Jailbreak is an iPhone thing !
Please speak slowly to him,......he just came from an iPhone.
No, you will not have to unlock or Jailbreak every time you do a
rom upgrade. Although sometimes you may have to re-root the phone, it
is a very easy process.

PS; Just leave your thrill stock for now until the awesome team of Dev's
on here come up with some fixes for V20P. That will make it simplest for you.

Your lucky if the batt on this phone lasts a day with moderate use.
You can always buy one of those 3500 mah batteries on ebay for like 15-20
bucks. and get about 75% more life.

S-off, Unlock / Root... Help?!

Okay, I'm coming from using an HTC Inspire that was rooted / S-off and unlocked that had CyanongenMod7 on it.. And I miss that. I now have a HTC Vivid and I wanna unlock, root and S-off it. I googled it and it came up with alot of results, But alot of the programs out there did not work.
My biggest issue is right now... Rooting it. Atleast if I root it, I can get rid of ALOT of the bloatware on it, And speed it up, save memory and battery life. I dunno where to start. With my HTC, It was easy... I had like, One-clicks and a few CMD prompts. With the Vivid, it's talking about a wire trick, Fastboot, etc.. I am confused.
So my questions are:
What is the BEST and EASIEST method to root m vivid?
Is the "Wire trick" The only way to S-off? ( I wanna flash custom roms, too!)
Is there a port of CM7 or CM9 for this phone yet?

I've tried that before and I had alot of issues with it, Though it might've been an older version of that tool... Either way. Thanks. If I can get it rooted, I can get the ROM running better. I just wish I could easily S-off so I can CyangenMod7 or 9 it.

I'm not sure about that mod , but s off you will need to take the little door in the battery compartment and touch a test point pad on the board to ground in a cretin sequence but its really easy I will find ya a link

Unfortunately...we have no cyanogenmod7...and no stable cyanogenmod9 or 10...the devs quit on it...
S-off must be done with wire trick
For the toolkit, extract it and go to the data foldervlocate the htcdrivers.exe (might be a different name) double click and install the drivers. When it finishes reboot then run the toolkit

I wonder if I could pay someone to do the wire trick for me, Heh... Because I'm afraid I'd brick my phone nor do I know HOW to do it.

Well the roms based off stock are all pretty solid
If you want aosp... we have desensified roms...meaning almost all sense parts are removed and replaced with aosp parts (personally haven't tried one)
Then there's miui which is based off a stock base.. only bug I lte doesn't work (miui will not be found on xda.. you must look at root wiki)

Bricked my Vivid. Now what?

Unlocked and rooted, S-on still. Was tweaking my stock Sense ICS ROM, Got it to were I kinda wanted it.. Installed some new fonts, It performed a back-up, Then while "installing" the fonts.. The system became buggy, laggy and eventually frooze so I turned it off.. Now it gets to the AT&T screen and freezes. I've tried "Factory Reset" with no luck at all. What can I do to fix this?
I want a new custom ROM, But without S-off it's kinda tricky. Is there a tutorial anywhere I could use? I was thinking obviously ICS (MAybe JellyBean if there is a port) but WITHOUT SENSE. I want a de-sensed rom.)

Relock the bootloader and run the stock ruu file for ics , once its done just start over
Easiest way is get the hansoon2000 tool kit take ya 10 min and you will be back where you where .

Thanks man I'm just doing the best I can to help out any way I can just like was done for me and I thank the ones that have helped me along the way and am truly greatful for what I've learned and for what I've yet to learn , I wish I was an expert lol I'm just giving the best info I got to try and help out in any way I can .
