S-on usability - HTC Vivid, Raider, Velocity

Since I don't have the patience to do S-off, I was wondering since my Vivid is already unlocked / rooted how hard it would be to install a custom rom? I already have WCX recovery, btw. I googled but could not find any instructions on installing a custom ROM with S-on. I want a de-sensed rom or Elegancia ROM. Can I do this with s-on, and how?

Google my signature their roms are for s-on
wcx experia-ance rom

Use holics Rom I used it when I was S-ON and it worked great just flash the boot.IMG in fastboot and your good to go

You can use Elegancia Rom while being on S-ON you just have to flash the boot.img via fastboot. When I was S-ON that is what I did and no problems at all. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me will be glad to help anyway I can.

S-off isn't that hard. Takes maybe 10-15 mins tops so long as you read everything thoroughly and follow the instructions to the letter.

I managed to get Elegancia ROM on it no issues, (Even without doing the fastboot boot.img flash? it's weird. I still get the AT&T bootscreen and Beats screen, but boots to the rom) Only the battery life is HORRIBLE! I didn't even get 12 hours on a FULL CHARGE! Wifi, GPS off.. only background apps running were Facebook and Gmail. Screen brightness was all the way down. I did try a battery calibration, before hand.
Also... How do I do the fastboot flashing? I hate to sound like a noob, but I did have an Inspire 4G which was easy to flash roms on

After doing this we can flash any of the ics roms? Or since its using the att ruu do we need to stick to the att roms?

Secondly, The link is not working for step 3.
Also if I am already s-off I can skip step 1 correct?
And when I unlock bootloader thru HTC dev, I select HTC Vivid?
THanks again!
Worked great!
Followed the directions and am now running ICS - flashed to the dark raider 1.1 rom from another thread after and it works great.. was going to try wc's illuminati rom but the link on his site starts out downloading at about 30k/sec and then steadily drops to zero before i get over 60mb.. anyone have a copy they want to mirror or know of another mirror hosting that rom? I know he's not on xda anymore..that's a shame tho he's a good dev.
Anyway thanks for the guide to get ics for us raider users! Worked perfectly!
Sorry for the dumb question about flasing the cingular ruu first, i didn't realize the first ruu it points to was a gb vivid ruu. makes perfect sense now.. lol...sense.. no pun intended..lol

Unlock as you unlocked before doing any changes. If your not having HTC vivid then don't select HTC vivid. If you have raider the simple select others.

When I run the ruu's im in fastboot correct? Searching around I've seen different methods. Just trying to confirm. From the instructions it looks like everythings pretty much done while in the bootloader.

Ok so I ran the ruu's while in fastboot and I had to redo the unlock as if the phone was a vivid and get a new token and now all is well. At least if anyone has a dead brain moment like me they will see this and know

[Q] confused about S-on vs S-off

For what it's worth, I have a new SIM unlocked Bell Mobility Raider upgraded to the latest stock ICS. Bootloader still locked, no root, S-ON
I am thinking of trying different kernels and ROMs but I don't want to do the whole S-OFF thing (I find it insane that we need to do the whole wire trick)
So far, my understanding is that with S-ON, I can unlock the bootloader, then get root access to the phone, then flash a new kernel using fastboot and then flash a new ROM.
With S-off it would make it easier to flash kernel and ROM at same time.
Is this correct?
My confusion: I read in some threads that with S-ON, the radio looks at the firmware and won't load a third party kernel/ROM. Is this so?
Can I change the kernel and ROM while keeping S-on, or not? I was thinking of trying the holics kernel which, if I understand it correctly, has a boot image for flashing using fastboot.
Also: with S-on, is it harder to brick the phone/ easier to recover? What happens if the flashing of new kernel fails, can I recover back to stock?
S-on - You cannot flash unsecured
.img files ( kernels, etc. ) in recovery.
S-off - You can flash everything in recovery.
There really isn't any benefit in having S-off unless 1. Your lazy and don't wanna use fastboot 2. You don't have a PC to use fastboot with.
All the Roms/kernels out can be flashed either way.
Sent from Illuminati Land.
Use the HTC Vivid All in One Toolkit v.1.0 by Hasoon 2000, when it tells you to perform the wire trick, peel the ends off a twist tie you use for trash bags, place on the connectors and count,(one thousand one), take the wire off and you've got the easiest way to S-off. It's worth it vs being S-on. It simplifies everything. I know that doesn't answer your whole question but should help.
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Yea ivwas nervous about the wire trick but just follow the guide its really easy as long as you only touch those 2 points you can't go wrong
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using xda premium
Exactly what he said I used a old Co-Axl Cable to do it if that how you spell it LOL sorry it 5:30 in the morning I'm Tired as HELL xD
Yeah, the wire trick isn't bad, but also, it only takes a few extra minutes each time you flash a ROM to flash the kernel over fastboot. No big whip if you don't mind the extra steps. That said, I still recommend S-OFF in case you want to try a stack of ROMS. Then you can switch them on the go without being tethered to a computer.
I'd also recommend using TWRP recovery over CWM for your recoveries, as CWM for our phone doesn't support large backups. If you flash a ROM, install all your apps, backup, flash a new ROM, and decide to restore, you'll be screwed if your backup is over a certain size in CWM. I learned that the hard way, but loosing all my data! (You can use TWRP whether you stick with S-ON or not).

Not true, I was running beta 13 with the Elegancia Rom before I switched to WCX Illuminati and I'm S-on.
There is a guide in one of Synergy's threads over on rootz. It involves booting a recovery from fastboot and flashing the kernel then booting into the recovery on the phone to flash the Rom. I used a few times for kernels and it worked every time.

If I am misinformed I apologize. I am S-off and also used Elegancia Rom(Pegasus) I was going by info posted in the ROM thread and Kozmik's thread.
Faqs for Pegasus & Blitz ICS SENSE 3.6
These have only been tested on Amon RA recovery. If you can't find it then Clockwork should work if not try a different recovery.
This rom can only be flashed if you are already on ics.
Also you must have S-Off. If you do not then it should still flash (unsupported) everything except for the boot.img. You will need to extract the boot.img and flash it in fastboot. If you are S-On and elect to flash this then you MUST select Stockish Kernel when you are installing the rom as KozmiKKernel does not support S-Off.

I am no longer supporting phones that are not S-Off. Get S-Off now Then just flash zip in recovery and select your options!

Previous poster mentioned you will have to RUU.
It really depends on on your knowledge of Fastboot. Its possible you could wipe and push a working ROM for the HTC One via fastboot (search on how to accomplish this if you dont know already).
If your not comfortable with that you will have to re-lock, push the RUU rom and then you have have to go through the unlocking process again.
Hope that helps and good luck!
You can go here as it seems someone else flashed this ROM as well and has already gone through the same issues you are having.

Okay well now my phone is saying there is no OS installed i am using TWRP and i know i need to flash a rom but the issue now is my pc wont recognize my device i have the latest HTC sync installed and still wont recognize the device.
Did you relock? I know it's frustrating but trust me you didn't brick your phone and you can get out of this. If you look in OMJ's thread with the RUU it will help you relock and push the RUU. It's saying you have no OS cause you flashed a Rom not configured for this phone. Your pc won't recognize the device for the same reason so once you relock the phone it should recognize the device just make sure you do a full wipe.

Went through this exact problem. You're past the point of even being able to push with adb because you're OS won't detect the wiped phone. Find the link to the latest RUU in this forum and dl it. Relock your phone and then run the RUU, will take about 15 minutes and your phone will be perfectly stock again. From there, reunlock and then choose one of the sprint variants. Personally I use ViperRom but there are plenty of good choices. Good luck.

boot into fastboot USB after downloading the RUU and placing it in the same folder as fastboot, and do:
Fastboot oem lock
Fastboot oem rebootRUU
Fastboot flash <RUUfileName> .zip,
You might get an error that says flush again immediately. If you do, no big deal, just press the up arrow on the keyboard (this inserts the previous command line again) and enter the command again. Wait for it to finish, and you should be good to go.
After that, re unlock and re flash a Rom, such as Viper Rom.

Not going to work. If you flash an international ROM you hose your storage partitions. Generally the only way to recover from this is via an RUU, but I'm guessing the user is S-ON so they'll have to wait for an updated RUU to turn up.
Need to try to get s-off, which will allow you to flash older ruu. Also I suggest in the future you read OP of any Rom you want to flash to make sure it's compatible with sprint

i have flashe internatinal rom trying to fix my gsm signal on my unlocked sprint htc one with no luck and the same has happened so ive fixed it by flashing recovery with the one click too or by using adb. Im s-off and unlocked though
same thing
I did the exact same thing. Flashed the revolution rom and selected the international version of it because it said that one applies to all carriers not listed below. stupid thing to overlook on my part. at first after doing so I was unable to get into my recovery then i used fastboot erase cache and once i did that I was able to fastboot flash the recovery image and navigate into it from the bootloader. ive tried everything i could think of once in my recovery, which is a version of cwm btw. Ive formatted data, erased cache and delvik, after that i tried installing my cyanogen 10.1 zip which i was successfully running without any problems for a day before i got greedy and tried to flash that international rom :crying: i made a backup of that working one but regardless of what I try doing whether it be restoring the back up that was working properly or re installing the cyan zip, every time it starts booting for about 30 secs then crashes reboots and tries again. it continues this loop for eternity and theres nothing i can do.looks like somebody said i messed up my internal storage partitions and im sol until a new ruu update comes out. I would greatly appreciate if someone would elaborate on that or point me in the direction of a good place to do some research on it. my bootloader says tampered, unlocked, s-on. there was also somebody that said try to get s-off and flash and older ruu. is this a possible fix?? i dont care how hard it is ill figure it out but right now im hurting for some help or direction. i appreciate any help. thanks

Are you trying this in fastboot? If you are just in the bootloader then the computer won't detect anything, but if you're in fastboot mode your computer should at least register an unknown device. And I don't think there are any 4.3 RUU's yet either...
You need to RUU, try this and see if it works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44243635
You might be screwed in till there is an updated RUU.
