CM10 underclocking with Stock kernel broken? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA-Members
I wanna ask around if someone of you is experiencing the same bug when trying to underclock the SGS on CM10-Nightlies...
The first time i experienced this bug was on 20120820 - I tried to set the max freq to 800 Mhz and saw instantly the bootanimation.
The second time was today with 20120826 - when i choose max freq 800 mhz in the system settings, the hole SGS freezes. only the backlight of hardware keys shows response.
The Nightlies in between i couldn't test.
Everything is stock. Checked the md5 of the downloaded zips. No apps installed. All okay. This bug is annoying Even if nearly nobody would underclock this phone because of the "butter" in CM10...
Cheers

[Q] SetCpu issues - freezes at max frequency

Hi everybody ...
I have a question regarding using SetCpu to a full potential and keeps on freezing whenever I set the clock to 1704 Mhz on main section of application. For your information regarding my GN
- LA4 ROOTED WITH CWM recovery ([ROM] [03.02] Chrack´s XXLA4)
and please refer to the screen capture of my about phone so you can see the kernel version etc... and also including the screen capture of the setting of SetCpu as well so anyone knows what I am not doing right in settings of SetCpu...
Every single time I set the clock to the max which is 1704 Mhz, m my phone freezes and had to reboot again !!.
Please carefully look at the screen captures and advice me what to do with these setting in SetCpu...
Thank you very much in advance !!
If it freezes, that means you've gone too high. Keep lowering it until you stop experiencing freezing.
@Seeker14491 --- YEAH thanks for your information much appreciated !

[Q] TriNiTy SensationXL V 5.0 Final - Random FC/Reboot?

I've just updated to Trinity v 5.0, but my phone keeps rebooting itself after scrolling the homescreens. I flashed the 1 GHz script and changed the Kernel to Unity v10, now it's back to normal again without reboots.
Does anyone know why this is happening? No one else on Trinity's thread seems to have this problem...
Your CPU cannot handle anything more than 1GHz. That's probably the thing that caused the reboot.
Not all CPU can handle >1GHz due to the nature of the manufacturing process of the CPU, so you are a bit unlucky to get the CPU that can only run 1 GHz max, still its still satisfy what it says on the spec..

Thanks, that's what I thought. But it's only after I flashed the Unity v10 kernel then it would stop rebooting. Is it because the Ruslik kernel that comes with it is custom made for OC? Should I go to Tweaks now and remove OC Daemon then?
I think the Ruslik kernel comes with OC, therefore it reboots every time, just try to make it to 1GHz it should work, if not its probably kernel bug. And you don't have to remove the OC daemon after, just set it to 1GHz and you are good to go.
In TriNiTy SensationXL 4.5 i have a reboot bug in FBReader. If i won't touch the screen for some time the phone will reboot. And in 5.0 final version i have force close in FIFA 12. Anyone else has this problem?

[Q]the cpu ignores max/min values

Hello all,
so in the effort to make my O4X last like a normal smartphone when not in use iv'e rooted it,unlocked the b/l and flashed custom kerenal.
i did managed to go from an avg. -10%/hr battery drain to 5%/hr but still even if i dont use the phone it will go down alot.
i've tried setcpu, trickster,no frills cpu and none of them could really keep the cpu in the freq. i want. it shos sucess in appling the values but then it jumps below and above the value's iv'e set.
what can be done?
thank you
Have you tried no-frills cpu setting to prevent system for making changes to the cpu frequences?
Yes.. Still not sticking and ignore the freq. I set
@genia.m which kernel are you using ?
Currently I'm on the latest Werewolfjb.
It happened with stock kerenal too..
Might be the rom's fault?
Well it can be, I believe it is the kernel but still, try to change your rom to one which has been reported to not having the baseband wakelock and similar wakelocks . It is the Nvidia Tegra 3 which overrides the definitions and sets them to default. It used to happen with me in stock and on cm too, but I changed to another stock rom , a modified one, and is working like a charm, no stupid wakes.
Try and post the result if you want !

[Q] [OMNIROM] Phone takes long to wake up / screen does not light up

Hi folks,
I am using the latest (20140908) omni rom nightly build and I have the following issues:
I am getting called (ringtone) but the screen stays black for 5-10 seconds
Alarmclock: when it goes off, the screen stays black and i can't switch it off (very annoying)
Screen takes 2-3 seconds or more to light up after I press the power button
Any ideas on that?
Thanks!
adam recommends (well, used to, not sure if it's still the case) that you use a custom kernel, and he mentioned iodak's few times. remember to set max screen off frequency to 1ghz or so via trickstermod, so the device won't lag (default is 475 mhz which isn't quite enough) with wake-up when screen is off
Thanks, I'll try the frequency fix first (I have no modifications there whatsoever) and if it's not helping go with mourta kernel.

you're only able to change screen off frequency on iodak-based kernels (mourta, iodak, cyodak, mahdi), not stock omni. good luck
I personally use Tasker to set performance governor for 5 seconds when a call comes.
That is also an interesting idea. I'll see how the phone performs with the next incoming call and if the problem still occurs I'll try it.
Until now I installed mourta 02/09 and I'm using abyssplugv2 governor. It does not have a max screen off frequency but the smoothness is much better already.

I've the same problem on cyanogenmod with stock cm kernel. When i install another kernel such as iodak my 4x is faster and smoother. Try to install iodak and set the min cpu freq to 475mhz.

[Q] Small lags here and there

Hello guys, how are you?
I would like to ask if you also have the same "problem" with your nexus 6. First of all, I come from an OnePlus One which was very smooth . I used to run CM + Franco Kernel but even stock CM (11 or 12) run nicely on it.
Now I'm using a Nexus 6 with the stock rom and the latest version of franco kernel (r26) but, for example, when I swipe the multitasking windows, I can see clearly a lag especially with the last one. Scrolling up and down is also laggy sometimes. Are you experiencing the same? I am running without the encryption and I already tried to disable Fsync; the launcher is the Google one.
Do you have any other sugestions?
Regards,
Rafael
I had this issue on Franco kernel. I went back to stock and the lags went away and battery life almost doubled
I have small lags here and there (sometimes seconds long freezes) but that's mostly due to me messing with kernel settings, trying out custom kernels and nightly ROM builds.
where you able to find out what was causing the lag and how to fx it? im having the same issue.

@ ALL who have this problem:
i had it too, and i was thinking that i have been the only one..went crazy because i didnt find the reason for this.
Solution:
1) You need the paid version of FKU
2) Open FKU, go into "CPU Manager"
3) Go into Governor Control
4) click on "input_boost_duration"
5) Change the value to: 1000000
6) Turn the button on for set on boot (so this value will be saved and applys again after a reboot)
7) then reboot the device, and voila
explanation:
on the stock kernel there is following setting:
if you touch the display, the Cpu will stay at 1497 Mhz for 3 Seconds and thats the reason why stock is smooth!
Franco changed this value for saving battery. his standard value is 0.04 Seconds on 1497 MHz, then it goes down to 300 if the cpu dont has to handle something.
So for example: if you scroll in the settings, and the CPU frequency goes so quickly down (after the 0.04 secs) there will be stutters
and with the 7 steps i mentioned above, you change the boost duration to 1 second. This means the device will not lag, because the CPU stays for 1 sec on 1497 Mhz and the battery impact isnt that big!
Please try this out and respond to me if it helped

Turns out, most of my problems were caused by the "Deep Darkness" CM theme. Builds of BlissPop and BenzoROM would be fine for a little while and then start to screw up, getting pissed off I would boot into CleanROM which didn't have any themes applied (I use MultiROM) and everything would work as expected for hours, no lags at all! I decided to switch to another theme in BlissPop to test my theory and voila no more lag!
