As mush as people love to cry about it, screen lift isn't really that big of a deal, but today I had an actual problem with my Nexus 7. I have been using it as an alarm clock for school, and that has been working out pretty well, but today my N7 decided to become totally unresponsive WHILE screaming my alarm at me. None of the buttons would work. Taking the back cover off and trying to use the buttons manually didn't work. I actually had to unplug the battery to stop the alarm. Plugged the battery back in and now everything is working fine. Kinda weird and I hope it doesn't happen again.
Did you try holding the power button for 10 seconds? That should have rebooted it.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
Yes, as I said, the hardware controls were completely unresponsive.
Oh crap.
What program where you using as the alarm? Could have been an issue with the program if it was from a 3rd party... If it was the built-in clock/alarm then look into what other programs were running in the background.
Good luck and hope that doesn't happen to you again.
P.S. what SSN do you have: C60, C70 or C80?

Stock alarm app, C60
I don't trust my N7 as an alarm, doesn't seem to work...
Always says it's gone off in the morning, but never wakes me up. The volume is louder than my phone which always works... dunno.
I use Acalender app and it always gives me alarm at requested time.

My old phone (Windows Mobile) had an alarm clock that was junk and sometimes would not ring at all (found out the hard way). Is the alarm clock in the nexus one reliable or did it ever fail to ring for you?
Thanks.
I use it every day as my only alarm, and it hasn't failed me yet.

Ditto to what everyone else is saying pretty much. Only alarm, works like a charm.
I use it as my work alarm and it hasn't failed me yet.
This is not WM It's Android and the Alarm clock is very on target!
Thanks guys, I guess I won't have to carry a dedicated alarm clock when I travel anymore.
I'm not sure if it's still a problem, but if you have an alarm set up and your phone reboots and/or turns off, your alarm will no longer be set.
I use it every morning for work and it has worked every time. My winmo alarm failed quite a few times so I always had an alarm clock as Backup. I no longer use the alarm clock and just stick with the n1 by my bedside. And if you leave the clock app opened and long press the screen brightness icon it puts the app in night mode with a black screen and green time info. The only downside to that is that it keeps your button touch buttons lit up white.

Weird, I just set the alarm, turned off the phone, and it still didn't work for me.
You're using the stock alarm?
My alarm survives reboots as well. Stock Clock App. Perhaps you Clock app is not booting on startup or is being auto-killed if you're using a task killer app?
Unlike most Nokias, the phone won't turn back on to wake you up... All Nokias, dumb or smart, do that IIRC.

Woops, I didn't clarify. The alarm survives reboots, it's just that it won't go off if your phone is shut down.
Do all of yours work when the phone is shut down?

Yes the lack of this feature sucks but I personally never have my phone off overnight. Im sure this isn't uncommon, but for me its because its my only phone. In emergencies I need to be available. Maybe other people turn their phones off to charge overnight, but I doubt that its common.
I doubt it will work.

Ok so i am trying to determine what my problem is.. here are the symptoms. When i try and end a call i sometimes have to press multiple times or deliberately press and hold the end button and sometimes it doesn't respond pretty much at all. Also i am using go launcher and when i press icons that are in the dock bar they have the same issues. I also have similar issues when i text it's really annoying so is anyone else have similar issues?

Same here. I've noticed that to hang up it takes a deliberate double tap. Also, the screen will sometimes become inoperable requiring a reboot. This has happened three times since first getting it. One note if that out happened twice stock, and once with decrapped 1.1
Any body else seen this?
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA Premium App
I haven't seen it anywhere else, but I have seen the double tap on the end button to end a call. Seems to happen frequently. A "feature?"
Either way, it's annoying.
Running Go Launcher as well.
To me, it seems like it takes the screen a really long time to wake up from being off, in all cases - for example, dial voicemail and put the phone to your ear. When you get the prompt to put in your PIN, take it away and the screen comes on, try to punch the dialpad button immediately and it just won't work. I tried it as I was writing this and had to triple tap the button.
Same thing with the lockscreen (still on the stock lockscreen for now). The screen will wake up and it takes a second or two to even start to register finger swipes. It's really annoying...
Speaking of phone lockup, I received a call a few days ago and the phone froze - I couldn't answer the call, or do anything, all the while the phone just kept ringing. Had to pull the battery. I'm still on the stock ROM.
Me too! I had a call and it froze. Battery pull as well. Also, forgot to mention I am using open home launcher.

Yep it's a bug either in LG's function to turn on and off the screen in Android, or the kernel drivers that enable/disable the touchscreen. There is about a 1 second delay to it.
I discovered this lovely bug while porting the AOSP lockscreen mod.
I'll run some more tests to see whether it's an android bug or a kernel bug. I'm betting it's android (something like the screen being turned on before the touch controller has had time to reinitialize itself, or something more complicated like a race condition of some kind...)
Either way, with cm7 around the corner, I don't think it's that big of a bug

Errrr Are you sure the Revo is getting CyanogenMod 7? Where did you hear this and more importantly when will we get it?

Noticed today my screen would randomly come on with the phone sitting across the room. Has anybody else noticed this? I only had one homebrew app installed that had background activity so I uninstalled it to see if that would stop it. It has happened once since then.

Only time I've seen this happen is when receiving text message or phone call; otherwise, I just hear vibrate/audio for background tasks and screen remains off.
I have the same issue
It doesn't switch off then
---------- Post added at 02:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:38 PM ----------
It appears after I change Lock Settings first time
I didn't have a similar issue
Charging port problem?
Could be an App or the case
I've had this happen to me on two occasion. First was because of one of the flashlight apps. Once I uninstalled it, the problem stopped. Next time the case I had for it was so tight it always pressed the power button. Hope you find this helpful.
The problem has not repeated itself in many months. Maybe it was an app that is no longer installed?

I had the same problem plus the screen would become unresponsive to the touch. When it's charging, the problem goes away. At one point, the phone thought it was charging with no cables attached to it and it worked okay. It comes and goes. For no reason, the screen will turn on and just keeps beeping.

This also happened to me.
You have the solution in this link:

Does anyone have this problem?
When the alarm sounds in the morning it just rings por 1 or 2 seconds and stops. I mean, the sound cuts itself without touching the phone. Then I can snooze or unlock the phone but the alarm doesn't ring.
Stock rooted ROM (tried with 3 stock rooted roms and happens the same)
Hi, I have the same problem and no solution... I'm on Faria V5.1 ROM!
I think that's a problem in XXAMA1. Had that same issue before but not now when im on XXAMA2.
ok, you'r right I'm on XXAMA1...
Havn't seen faria around for a while though..no updates
It happened in AMA1 and put AMA2-3 and it still happens
still happens on AMB2. Kinda frustrated, i woke up half an hour late today, I can't be any later or I'll miss my classes :/
That'd explain why I missed university 3x this week
Edit: tested and works good on benzrom v3

I've noticed the same problem.
Tell me this: does your phone lie face up or down when you put it on your night table ?
So far, I've only noticed the cut-off alarm when the phone is face down. Maybe it's related to the feature the phone has for silencing (if phone rings, put it face down and it will go silent).
Just happened to me on stock non rooted official 4.1.2...It was face up if anyone's wonderin' :/

It might however be indirectly because of that feature - for example, some bad sensor reading.
Since my last post my alarm has always rang, but I gave each of my (4) alarms a different name, and I happened to wake up a bit earlier than the alarm, wake the phone shortly to check the time, then go back to sleep.
Happened again to me on Benz v3. Really don't know what is the problem.

True.
FYI, I have a flip cover on my S III mini... maybe combination of sensors (proximity, orientation...)

Happened to me again just now. However I now know what's happening - the alarm seems to snooze itself. If you have snooze activated for the alarm it will ring again when the snooze timer ends (happened while I was typing this).

so, a workaround would be to set the least snooze to be closer to the alarm time?
I iust found this and I thought ill share it with the wonderful people at xda for always helping me why not share . Feel me I dont know if theres another thread for this but hey . Any way I had a chance to play with the moto x and its okay . Lets put it like this its not a s4 . Lol. However I did like this active display which show your notifications as they pop in . Almost like a lock screen but better in my veiw . Take a look for your self heres the link.....
http://gs4.wonderhowto.com/how-to/s...x-style-active-display-notifications-0148248/
The great thing is that it works for our phone it also help with battery life thats a plus . Enjoy . Let me know what ya think.
Peace .

Not sure how this would actually help with battery life as it actually turns on the screen which is a major power drainer as opposed to just turning on the Led which is what happens by default. With that being said I do love this app for phones that do not have an led indicator. I use this on my blu life play and it does help with getting notified especially when your phone is on silent . I think one obvious feature it is missing is the ability to "pulse" the notifications periodically cause as it stands right now the screen lights up and if you aren't staring directly at your phone you will miss it. And you are back to pressing a button to turn the screen on and check. With the s4 its not that big of an issue cause the led will continue to pulse as it would anyway. So although its kind of gimmicky I would see it consuming more battery on the s4 than by just turning on the led. If the whole point it just to get notified when some actionable item has happened than a simple led is best. Rather than a screen that lights up only momentarily then never to be seen again.

Well not really cause in the app it self you could set how long you want it to stay on. Plus I'm one that dont like led I hate to see that light flash plus it dont show you your message just saying. Lol. And being that is black with white letter consume less battery. And instead of going in your phone you could read a brief detail of your messages and emails with out go in your to phone ,,unlock your phone sliding your bar down and then clicking it to go in your app then your app has to load which is quick but more step to see your messages here you could just quick veiw. I always have my phone on ten mins cause I hate for my phone to turn off plus I always turn it off when im not using it and I get great battery life doing that with it being ten mins that app will stay on as long as you have your system time out set plus you could set a sound for it too so you dont miss it. So in alot of way its great once again in my view. And yeah never to be seen again..lol.. that needs to get updated . But its a work in progress. Lol

It doesn't turn on the whole screen. With AMOLED screens, the black pixels are completely off and aren't using any power. The only pixels drawing power are the ones you see. An LCD screen, on the other hand, is drawing tons of power even if it's displaying an all-screen. Having an AMOLED screen is what makes this feature practical.
On our galaxy S4 s we have the Quick Glance feature anyway so that works for me. I think its actually better than this app because u can have the screen light up when u need it, with a quick wave over the device itself, and not just once after receiving the message, email or etc.. No offense to the Dev its awesome for phones that don't have a led notifier or the Quick Glance feature. Keeps up the development it helps lots of people thou.
