First, please forgive me for my noob question. I'm running another android phone, but the boss came to me with his problem on his Droid 4, so I need to make the most of it.
On both Gingerbread and now ICS, he will add contacts from his exchange server list to his favorites. He prefers the list to be in first name first on the phone, but on his Outlook on his PC last name first. What happens is the phone keeps reorganizing the favorites to first name first in the Outlook contacts. Is there a way to prevent this?
Thank you in advance!

Im a new owner to the kaiser and am using one of dutys latest 6.1 roms.
The first problem i have/had is when i synced my phone to my PC for the first time. It took all of my MSN & e-mail contacts and added them to my contacts list on my phone. As i didnt want them there, i deleted them all. Not realising it, the next time i plugged my phone into my PC and synced it, it deleted all my MSN contacts off my PC (oops). Either way iv got over this and am in the process of trying to re-add everyone.
Now however, i find iv still got a lot of old contacts that i just dont want anymore in my contacts list on my phone.
Is there anyway to split the contacts up, so that when i send a txt or a call all i see is the contacts on my sim card, and not a list 3 times as long that includes peoples e-mail address and stuff like that? Then, if i do want to send an e-mail i can use another tab and see a list of all my contats that include an e-mail address?
cheers guys
any advice or ways around it?
Folks - I know there are many threads on this subject and I've gone through them but nothing really comprehensive on how best to sync my contacts. Here's my setup:
1. desktop - Outlook 2003
2. notebook - Outlook 2003
3. Hero - Android 1.5
Obviously my goal is to have the exact same contacts in each computer and the Hero. Gmail (contacts) does a good job in making sure the Hero is synced automatically to the contacts in Gmail but I make my additions/corrections to contacts either on the desktop or the notebook computers. So far I've been manually exporting/importing from notebook to Gmail and from desktop to Gmail but run into problems such as duplicates, and most frustrating, some contacts on the Hero are first name, last name while others are reversed.
I really prefer last name, first name but I can't seem to get it that way in the Hero - both computers (Outlook) are last name, first name.
Anyway, I guess the central issue is how to sync the two computers with Gmail so the Hero gets auto synced?
Next question - if I happen to make a new contact within the Hero, does that get synced to Gmail and become a Google contact? I guess I'm confused between phone contacts and Google contacts - I noticed that either or both can be selected in the view function and you have to check one or the other or both?
Seems like what I'm trying to accomplish should be fairly common as most people have a couple of computers plus their phone. Any advice what be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

Oh, yours is a problem that has plauged me since the days of ye olde' BlackBerry. Either you end up with 2 or 3 of the same contacts, or you are SOL.
Ok, so I am running Fresh 2.3.3 on my Sprint Hero and have it connected to my zimbra server through activesync. I do have gmail setup, but really only for market as i dont use it for email unless im just doing testing. Anyway, i really hate how my phone wants to have 3 different contact lists (google, exchange, phone). I see where i can enable/disable whats shown in the peoples program, but is there anyway to remove the phone/google one so that I can just have single contacts list to manage? Hell, even when i add a contact or edit a contact, it asks me which one of that persons i want to edit (exchange or google, etc). Its really annoying. Any tips would be sincerely appreciated.
hey. was just wondering if there's anyway to sync selected groups of contacts instead of every damned one on my list.
reason is that i don't want hundreds of e-mails clogging up my contacts list.
sure, i can show only contacts with numbers. but there are some contacts which i only have their e-mails.
thanks!
i'm looking for something similar myself
i got several email accounts (more than 15) that i sync with and you can imagine the huge mess of contacts i have in my phone when i pull up the list to search for an email or phone number
i'm trying to find a way or something to organize all that
also to sync it all across all the accounts
or something along the line
just to clean them up and make it easy to the eyes
i have no problem finding the number or email of the person i need to contact
it just eye soring to see over a 1000+ contacts when you bring up the list to pick from the list.
good lord Android came with an awesome search build in, else it would have been a major pain in the arsenal as it was with Windows Mobile and PalmOS and every other smartphone i've ever had before, even Blackberry sucked at contacts handling
ah well. looks like for now i have to show only contacts with phone numbers. and add some random numbers for the important contacts that i only somehow have their e-mail addresses. bummer.
Hi Guys,
I have a strange problem with my sgs.
Whenever I try to manually Join two contacts (for example someones facebook and corporate account), they wont join.
Here is what happens:
I open a contact named "XXX", click on Join contact, find the contact I want to join it with (facebook profile YYY for example) and click on it. Phone tells me contacts joined, but they are not. Contacts with matching names have been joined automaticly
Anybody?
I've got the same problem now too... you figure this out?
So do I. Did either of u figure it out? Pls respond.
i had this problem but i couldnt join my facebook contacts to the contacts on my sim after i installed a new rom - i had to import the contacts from my sim to my phone first before i could join them
my contacts are on the phone itself and still its not working..
Hi guys, had this two or three times. I'm pretty sure it's caused by uninstalling some system apps like task manager, social hub etc.
Never found a way to fix it, other than wipe system and data + reflash.
Have you deleted social hub or other sns related apps? You could try to fix the problem by reinstalling them.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I think this must be a problem with the developers.
Initially i didn't have this probelm but as soon as i ugraded the firmware and the option changed form 'link contacts' to 'join contact' the problems started. I hope that someone figures this out as there seems to be no other way to use the facebook pictures.
I've got it!!
So, I've figured this out. It's tedious, but it works. Go into the original contact. Where it says their name, retype it exactly as it is typed in the other contact that you would like to link it with. Once you get to the end of the name, a pop-up should come up underneath the name. Click on it to link the contacts. If it is already exactly the same, all you have to do is hit the space bar at the end of the name. This should also bring up the pop-up. Once the contacts are linked, you can change the name back to what you originally had it as. Like I said, long and tedious, but at least it works. Good luck!!
