So I was looking for an efficient way to tote around my nook, ecig stuff, and and other odds and ends to and from work, and while I'm out in the field.
I generally don't carry around enough stuff to warrant a backpack or a messenger bag, but saw that a coworker had a Versipack, and suspected that the rear/CCW pocket the perfect size for the nook... so I picked one up, and it is. Now I just need a name tape to make this one mine.
So for anyone who's interested, here's the Maxpedition link, but it can be had cheaper at other various online vendors:
http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/FATBOY-VERSIPACK-4p31.htm
And of course some photos; as you can see it even accommodates the nook with silicone skin and neoprene sleeve. The pack itself is very well-made and looks to be extremely durable. Thumbs-up on this.
I agree the fatboy versipack is great for this. I had the type-s for my kindle originally, now I use it for my wookie (nickname for my wonderful nookie), Evo, usb cable, wall adapter, keys, and a few other things. I love my fatboy =)

I think I might laugh at a guy I saw with one of these, until I noticed that they're designed as ccw holsters! The only problem I can see with it is can it hold my Sig and my nc at the same time?
Ha, I used to have one of those. Good thing to see the Nook fits!
I have a fatboy and upgraded to a colossus, the colossus carries my 9" netbook, nook, nook color and a ton of other items (ds, flashlight, multitool, 1911, blackberry, droid, gps) with some external pouches from tactical tailor. Technology addiction is a horrible thing...

Cool, that's a really nice pack too, just too large for my edc needs.
Aaahh... the good ol' Fatboy... I think I had one of every color at one point LOL, even a few Jumbos'. I'm also an EDC junkie... Right now I'm pimpin' a Tactical Tailor Modular Operator Pack for large edc/shtf, a Tactical Tailor Enhanced Daypack (now discontinued) for regular daily EDC. The Nook fits perfectly in the slip pocket behind the admin area of that. Then theres' a custom bag I had made that acts as a removeable organizer that I keep in the latter. This list goes on....
*Stay AWAY from Kifaru gear, your wallet will hate you....
Yeah a little too large for me as well, but I think Ill get the
JUMBO S-TYPE VERSIPACK
Looks like it will be good for my needs
Can you say....manpurse
I think you mean a small men's carryall.
What's the difference between S-type and non S-type?
I'm fairly sure one is right hand and one is left side. Can't remember which is which though.

Can the regular one hold a NC and a Dell mini 10v? Or would I need to get the Jumbo?

The regular one would hope the NC just fine but for the additional 10v you would need the Jumbo. I found that when loaded the Jumbo got too heavy and made me lean. Unless your a bigger person you may want to consider a small backpack like the Tactical Tailor removeable operator pack I just got. Nice and small and out of the way but still holds plenty. Got mine a few weeks ago and its fantastic.
I was able to find this knock off
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002BJBIRW/ref=mp_s_a_1?qid=1305576200&sr=8-1
Its pretty good and looks almost exactly as the maxpedition one. It also doubles as a tactical diaper bag door me. The best thing was that it was cheaper and free shipping.

thank you! i just purchased this!
I was looking at the fatboys but then someone mentioned that it isn't stylish enough. So I went searching and found the ultimate metrosexual carryall man purse. http://www.tombihn.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=001&Product_Code=TB0201 in cocoa/wasabi color combo. Fits the nook perfectly. Not to mention a bunch of other crap.
Lol, I just toss mine in my massive timbuktu messenger bag (similar color scheme), though it's seen better days. I think most of the guys looking at the fatboy aren't really going for that metrosexual look.

Are all those relatively strong rare earth magnets a good idea? Won't that mess with things like navigation and storage?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
No the magnets won't affect it that way. It's an innovative idea for sure but the way the N7 is held in place is plain ugly! Also there doesn't seem to be any way to fix or hold the top cover in place when it's closed.
I think it's a great idea but not ready for market quite yet, at least I wouldn't buy it as is.
Very clever but ugly. Not sure why you would want to stick your tablet to the fridge?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
i really want one and would get it if it was like 20 bucks but looks like it will be at least 70 which is a no go for me especially since it doesn't look like it protects the corners.
Nope. The front cover, a rather important part, looks like it's got several slits in it to facilitate all of that silly folding.
Ehh I wouldn't be too sure about the internal Compass. The Transformer TF101 had issues with this and magnets.
Pretty slick idea. Looks like a great case but not for me. I hope he sells a lot of them and does well.
Looks interesting but I'll be waiting for some real users review to see if it really works well
Pretty dope!
Clever, but ugly and probably overpriced. For $20, I'd take a second look.
Doesn't look like it adds any protection, but seems like a really nice idea.
Frankly, I would love to be able to stick it to the fridge for recipes when I am cooking.
I went ahead and per ordered it from http://flipsteady.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=5 for 55 bucks. Its not the prettiest case out there but I prefer function over style most days out of the week and I do love all the options with the stand.
I will probably try to put a thin tpu case on the nexus and then the flip steady on top of it for a little more protection. Will review when I receive it.

Ever tried cooking?
I use my tablet when cooking brunch on Sundays, fixing a batch of cheese dip up, etc. Good for all kinds of uses.
Awesome case, too bad its $55 prob get in around $35 or lower ($29.99 would be sweet spot)
I'm hoping over the next month or two a few more keyboard/case combos will pop up, other than just the sloppy PU (Poetic) and Crazy on Digital cases found on Amazon and Ebay. Would rather find something that snaps the Nexus 7 into place rather than one that forces you to put it into a sleeve (adds bulk). Additionally, why the extra inch or so on each of those cases below where the tablet is placed?
We need something like the OEM Playbook keyboard case, that doesn't add any unnecessary bulk and is made specifically for the designated tablet. The keyboard cases now are just being sloppily adapted for every new 7" tablet that comes out.
There is definitely a market for a high-end, tailor made keyboard case, maybe around $50-$75. I realize most people buy the Nexus 7 for casual media consumption and it's low $$$. Regardless, I know plenty of people that would rather carry this around than a laptop, for more casual productivity days. Documents to Go, Evernote, Gmail, Google Drive (to name a few) would all benefit from having this option done properly.
Let me know if anyone else comes across a bluetooth keyboard case combo other than the two mentioned that are floating around. I'll also post if I find any further ones.
Thanks!
I recently purchased the Keybook, take a look if you wanted more details/pictures.

I already mentioned the Poetic (which you purchased) and Crazy on Digital cases as they seem to be the only two offerings right now. These third party cases hardly seem like close to as good an option as Blackberry has made for their ill-fated Playbook. Seems like these companies just keep barely adapting the same product for every 7" tab on the market. Additionally, what's the deal with the extra space under the tablet and why only the sleeve option and not snap-into-place option for holding the tab in place.
Hoping something that is more tailor made and form factor will come out for the Nexus 7. Please keep posting anyone's findings.
Thanks again!
I prefer a "stand" case with no keyboard, and IF I need the keyboard, I will get something like Microsoft Wedge (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805560)
Reason being is because I don't use the keyboard too often and most of the time, I prefer not to carry a "thick" device.
But that's just me, though.
Anyone know of a case that'll fit a Nexus 7 AND a large (ie: HTC One X) phone?
I often carry both with the Nexus tethered to the phone and would like something that could contain both.
This should hold all your gear:
I don't think I've ever seen a combined case, I don't know that that would necessarily be practical. Unless I'm at home, my phone usually lives in my pocket.

I, personally, don't want the phone in my pocket when I tether and I certainly don't want it sitting in plain (grabbable) sight when I'm sitting down using the N7 in poublic places.

I completely agree with you. I have been wanting a tablet/phone combo case since back in my nook color + EVO 4G days. I have a Galaxy note now. Not really practical to have it in my front pocket while sitting down. Plus the fact that if my signal is being sketchy due to my location, being in a pocket is just going to make it worse.

if a sleeve works for you the Mivizu 7" from Amazon has an external pocket so it might suit your needs.

I picked up the "KOZMICC" 7" sleeve on Amazon and it has a front zipper that fits just about any cell phone just fine (I use it with my Samsung Captivate).

I am sure you guys see the video posted by Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/29/nexus-10-hands-on-video/), and just wondering about official smart cover for Nexus 10 that shown in video will be available? you know what I mean like Nexus 7's official smart cover never made it because probably they afraid that Apple sue them...
I know Nexus 10's smart cover seems different than Apple's iPad one, looks like they have modified a lot to avoid being sued by Apple?
what do you think?

I'm with you. I seriously hope they release that smart cover shown in the video. Love the concept of the smart cover, something that doesn't add to the thickness of the device but still covers the screen and can act as a stand.
I'd love something like that, but the cover they showed can't even work as a stand. It's a pretty crappy piece of design work, honestly. I'm hoping for much better from them once things are official.
Very interested to see a closer look at this smart cover and any other official accessories they got coming. I read somewhere Motorola might make an "official" keyboard.

Why Motorola would make an 'official' product for a Samsung device, is rather a mystery, wouldn't you think?

It's really a "Google" device AFAIK, so it doesn't seem that far out. It seems we always get let down when it comes to Nexus devices and accessories.
What's really going to help a LOT is the cover mounting area...there's nothing stopping third parties from using that same system with their own wide variety of covers.
I can easily see kickstand covers (like the old Zenus cases), segmented Smart Cover knock offs, simple folios, the works, using this mounting system.
And you can bet Google is happy to let third-party Chinese sweatshops churn these out, even if they infringe on Apple work. Why? Because it's doubtful Apple will bother to go after them if they infringe on "Smart Cover" designs (they haven't yet for other tablet covers), and a wide variety of accessories makes it more desirable to the consumer.
I hope this case will be available for the nexus 10:
Samsung BKC-1B1DEBGXEG

I was thinking that 10" wasn't big enough for a decent keyboard, but if you include the bezel, the Nexus 10 is actually 12" diagonal. And if the keyboard case really goes edge to edge like that one, it could have actual full-sized keys. Just save me from that tiny right shift key, ugh. Anyway, neat!
on the google play store under the 'what's in the box' it just says Nexus 10 tablet, so i don't think the smart cover is part of the package from google. hopefully we might be able to get one elsewhere

I just ordered the 32GB Nexus 10, but I am very dismayed at the lack of availability of any type of case for it. Needless to say, that tablet won't be going anywhere except my home. Hurry up, Google, with making the smart cover available for consumers to purchase.
So I heard a rumour that the reason the cover they sent to reviewers isn't for sale is that they didn't get very good feedback on it from the reviewers or the public reading about it.
So, they went back to the drawing board for a more versatile cover, one that serves as a stand as well as a screen protector, and it simply wasn't ready for mass production on launch day.
TL;DR: Patience, good cover coming from Samsung/Google, and of course a plethora of covers from third parties.
