I am running the latest nightly in cm9 and I set my cpu speed using system tuner to min 192 max 1.78 and interactive. At first both cpus are online and if I hit times in system tuner it shows times for both cpus. After awhile the 2nd core will go offline and system tuner only shows one cpu in times. I also set system tuner to force cpus online on reboot so if I reboot both cores are back online. The 2nd core does not go back online even under intensive use unless I reboot. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the boot setting for force all CPUs online 'On boot Completed'
Reboot.
Use the performance governor.
Move the slider for the second core to whatever frequency you want.
I already have force all cpus online on boot complete set. I have two sliders under cpu0 and cpu1. I thought one was min and one max. Thanks for the help!

You are correct, one us min, the other max. Also re-apply boot setting: on boot complete.
If you see in times > the right side chart has a column for cpu1, then it's clocking. Depending on your governor choice, it could be off-line.
Don't forget to reboot and re-check your settings.
The Times for the 2nd cpu will disappear only showing the first cpu and it will show the 2nd core offline. In the beginning it shows cpu0 and cpu1. After a sleep I t will show only one.

dont now if this thread is to old,
but I have/had the same problem here.....I had it on my HTC evo 3d but after an update from from dev it was perfectly working as it should....it was the period when my phone got ICS and with it the new 3.xxx Linux kernel...and now I have got a touch pad since Monday and flashed it already with cm9 aokp remix and have the same problem here...even under heavy load the second core re,gains offline what is not normal, it can not be that because the asynchronous management of the cores is the 'problem' (what many people try to explain to us, what have this problem) . I think it is something kernel related...maybe the kernel not tweaked properly? I don't now, just a thought because we or me have 2.6 kernel version...governor changes don't give the effect I want....have choosen the same options in android tuner and in aokp tweaks
Would really appreciate it if someone would know the solution to this problem
Upped my minimum cpu speed to384 and now they both stay online. Hope this helps!

This helps, but battery life isn't so good as it should...shortens it very much...
I didn't find it affected battery life much. Try finding the rogue app that is hogging the battery by freezing some apps.

Phone won't wake in that mode.

I just set it as 100-1200 interactive. Then set a profile when the screens off 100-600 conservative.
As long as the profile is set from 200mhz - (200-1200mhz) the phone won't shut off and you won't have to remove the battery I had this issue on my phone....

That's because you had it set on "ondemand" I had the same exact issue for a long time before I figured out that was the problem. It has something to do with the kernel doesn't support it right with setcpu or something. I read it somewhere on this forum. I've had it set at 100 min for the last 3-4 weeks and it's never not turned on (as long as it ISN'T set for ondemand).
I'll bump this thread to ask a question.
Around the time I installed SetCPU, I noticed a HUGE drop in battery life. To be honest, I'm not sure if SetCPU is the problem, or if I changed something else on the phone and that's the source of my problem. Anyone know anything that I could have changed unknowingly that caused my battery life to suck so hard.
Don't use set cpu if you can avoid it. Sre sets you to 1.2 ghz and unhelpful supplies a script if you are comfortable doing that.
Limiting speed with set cpu had little positive influence. As long as the scalling is working the cpu should idle with the screen off any how. The only situation I would change the clock is during an overheat condition but I'm running without set cpu all together.
If I'm interpreting unhelpful right the next kernel will make use of user space in set cpu and allow many new things including under voltage to save battery and the creation of custom clocks not written into the kernel so you aren't bound to his preferences.

Where can you do that at? Is that where you make your own cpu speeds?
Use NSTools in any ICS ROM with Icy Glitch kernel.

On demand means the processor will clock to whatever speed within the set parameters it needs to run smoothly. It will always try to run as low as possible while not compromising speed. This is generally the best option and there's little to no reason to change it. Unless you want to save as much battery as possible of course, then you could put it to energysaving. You really don't want maxperformance as that will drain your battery and give little to no advantage over ondemand
The other is the clockspeed of the CPU and should generally be left alone. Overclocking it too much can permanently damage your hardware. There is no cooling system, so increase it very conservatively. You should leave it at stock, unless things are being slow, but don't put it too high. The higher you put it, the faster it will process yes, but also the more energy it uses and therefore heat it creates. Too much exposure to heat will mean game over. Overclocking is also likely to lower the lifespan of your device.
Hope that helps

1.do not oc your device more than 800 mhz and use ondemand governor,
2 .use the inbuilt option to choose the frequency because app like set cpu use 4~5 mb of your ram (setting> cm setting> cpu setting)
3. try using adw ex launcher it uses 11 mb ram only avoide go launcher
4. create a swap partition of 512 mb and set swapiness to 80%
5. use only default android keyboard (ics android keyboard is better)
6. use task killer to kill ongoing useless task time to time
7. do not use much widget at the same time
I remember mebitek or yagya or some other famous dude said that moving cache to sd card slows your device down..?
I set JIT off, and VM heap to 24. Also oc to 710 MHz, phone works like a charm. But i don't play games, i just want the phone to be snappy. I think the vm heap might cause fc's for bigger applications, at least playstore always force closes when i had VM heap at 16.. but otherwise the phone was really responsive with 16.
Battery is also good with those settings. Please correct me if i'm somehow mistaken!

Just leave min cpu freq to 245, yes.
Also, if your kernel has Smartassv2 or Lilgv2 available, use those instead, they're better for Mini than stock Ondemand.

(FOR BETTER PERFORMANCE IN CM9):-
go to settings
1)developer option-mark Gpu rendering ,windows animation &transitin animation as 0.5,mark kill app back button.
2)performance-use 16 bit,processor lilg as governor at max710(u don't see much flickers)
3)use apex launcher as default .(push it in to ur system-apps)
whats is the best kernel for good undervoltage battery life and performance? im on CM9 nightly
after installing System Turner i noticed that no voltage option available and only one cpu core is working ??
Hi,
I personally tried to install an overclocked kernel on my touchpad (CM9, last nighly) and it worked successfully, but I can't get my WiFi working since I flashed it. I had to perform a full wipe and to reinstall the last Nightly.
coom
Same with my wifi I flashed a few. All negative results. My wifi didn't work and considering 3g is sooooooo slow on the touchpad. Lol. Really slow like 0 mbps lol.

Haha... but seriously...
Just lower your clock speeds. Typically, the lower the MHz the lower the voltage. Some steppings will draw the same current so you'll have to see what works best for you.

in systemtuner under the settings menu you can choose force all cpu's online. you can set it to on boot completed or you can set it to modify the init.d script to force them both online even before android is finished booting.

I downclocked my O4X to 1.2GHz 2 cores using LG gearbox from the other thread. I got sick of it resetting the settings and not knowing what speed im on so i uninstalled it having set the speed to 1.5GHz 4 cores before doing so.
Then i installed QuadGearBox but the same issue is there. I also don't see any improvement to battery life using it. So i uninstalled it today, turning it off before doing so.
I started to wonder if my cpu speeds are back to normal so i ran a test with linpack (since it tests multicore and only CPU) but found out the result is 60-70, half of the test GSM Arena did.
So i reinstalled LG Gearbox and saw the default setting shown is 1.5 2 cores. I set to 4 cores, uninstalled it, and restarted my phone. After that i did a linpack test again and the score went up to 80-90 still short of 141 on GSM Arena.
I am using SetCPU now but i have no idea what to do. TBH I right now im kinda panicky.
How to find out how many cores im actually running on, and set it right?? There's a fifth slow core but is it being utilised?

The gearbox reads settings from system file so it should be device current status.
You could also monitor active cpu cores by show cpu usage in hidden menu.

I am seeing the cpu usage now. It used to be only two cores running. Then i reinstalled gearbox and it show as 2 core which i later set it to 4
After that i ran the stress test in setcpu and saw all 4 lit up.
But the thing is after restart it defaults to 2 cores. Anyway to fix this?.

The original QuadGearBox will set active core on device boot. So just turn off the eco mode in QuadGearBox.

Ok and so i did a factory reset from recovery.
Now im free from any cpu meddling apps and seeing all 4 cores lit up. Getting 80-100+ on linpack but still short of 141 (is it even possible to get that?)
Does this mean i am back to normal now?

Hi all.
Dont know if this is a stupid request
I am on CyanogenMod based ROM and i want to save battery (maybe) disabling some cores of my O4X...
I read this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804461
but not working on CM ROM so...
I ask you!
I read also this 2 threads but I dont know if they are only for htc one x
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1630200

There are tricks to enable only 2-3 cores or something like this?
For CyanogenMod of course!

Hi, you could try with this nice app called Tegra Overclock. I've been using it for quite a long time now and I really like it. It's very simple and you can REALLY set how many CPUs you want online + there are also some other options for OCing etc.
Oh and btw, I just tried that app from the HTC One X thread that you pasted and unfortunately, it doesn't do the job. :/

No problem. I hope that It will help you with your battery life.
also cpu tuner and trickstermod do the job pretty well. If your aim is to save battery check cpu tuner out
But seems that trickster mod dont save those settings for me...
Multicore Power Saving
always set to 0
Max Active CPU core
always set to 1
No way to fix them (various rom and kernel tested).
AND
Seems that tegra overclock fired up my CPU (CPU never goes under 1000 Mhz but always on max)
my phone after few minutes reboots in bootlop cause the temperature reached !
I reinstalled the ROM!!
LOL experience!!:banghead:

You need to set up min/max cpu that way u wont be stuck on max cpu speed and overheat your phone.Tegraoverclock is fine but i am kinda used to SetCpu app.Download cpu spy from market and watch deep sleep that way you will know whats going on with cpu all the time.BetterBatteryStats are fine too.
