cant access samsung kies - Galaxy Ace S5830 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know I supposed to ask this question directly on the development section, but my new member status not allow me to post there for now.
here's my problem, I have just done flash the lewa rom, when I realize that the sim toolkit gone. I need that apps to help me in mobile banking. and coincidentally, I also cannot access samsung kies from my notebook when I connect it. does it related to the missing sim toolkit? if yes, can anybody help me finding the sim toolkit apk? I've tried to restore it from titanium backup, but result nothing.

1.) afaik this has nothing to do in dev section
2.) if you want to go back to stock, by connecting to kies when running custom rom wont work.
what do you need kies for? transfering data from device to pc? just us device as mass-storage

kies wont recognize ur phone when u have custom ROM flashed

I want to restore the contact that I've back up in kies. do you have any idea how I can get my old contact in kies without connecting my phone to it?
oh, when I use cusrom gingerreal, I can connect to kies, that is when I backup the contact data. but when I flash lewa, I cant.

why backup contacts? its stored in your google-acc by standard ?

Synchronize your gmail. . Your contacts is safe

If you only need to restore the contacts from kies, then you must have saved them in the ".spb" format
now, open the contacts in your kies, and then save them in the ".vcf" format
copy all the ".vcf" files to you're sdcard
then open contacts in your phone, select import, and then import the contacts
i had to do that after installing cm7, and my contacts werent synced

I got some questions.

Hello,
Well , first of all I'm pretty new to android stuff and I want to ask you guys(experts) some questions about stuff which arent clear to me.
1. Will my rooted phone (Galaxy S) automatically updated to android 2.2(froyo) when It's rooted?
2. Do I loose my data?
3. When froyo arrives?
Thanks in advance..
1. yes and no, it comes from KIES, or you can use Odin to upgrade to 2.2, it is not OTA
2. yes everything you flash the firmware you lose your data, so do a backup before you flash, then simply restore your accounts and data
3. in a few days
Thanks for the quick response, but i dont fully understand your first answer
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
it is not automatic (OTA) over the air
you need to plug the phone to KIES desktop PC software to get froyo when it comes out
Ah ok. Thanks!

[Q] Rom flashing questions

hi guys!
I have recently bought a GT540 and I have a few questions, since I'm new to android. My device came with 1.6 and I flashed the greek 2.1 rom on it.
- do I need hungarian language in the rom if I want to have hungarian characters when I write messages? (I use the phone in English)
- what is the difference between the Vasquez and Quarx rom? which one is better?
- can I remove the stock browser to free more space for other apps without issues?
- when trying to flash the Quarx rom, I my phone was mounted both in Debug USB and mass storage USB mode. After the install, all my apps and contacts remained intact, but the phone became very sluggish and the status bar wasn't changed to black. Since then I discovered that mobile internet isn't working. I have also installed the CWR 2.5.0.5, but no matter which rom I flashed, my apps would remain as well as my contacts, and mobile internet is out the window. how can I wipe the flash completely and do a clean install (I tried factory reset, but mobile internet is still broken)?
- if I send my phone to LG to repair it, will they find out I have CWR installed? (I'm planning to flash the baltic rom before sending it in.)
Thanks for your help people!
For the mobile internet.. have you checked your settings?
You can find your settings at the site of the network operator!
for the Roms its really down to personal preference. i use the quarx Rom because i like it and its free from crap.
the quarx Rom cannot be flashed like a normal Rom. it has to be installed through the recovery mod. if your flashing from 2.1 to a different 2.1 then all the information will be saved.
its only if your moving up a Rom number that you lose everything.
you can remove the stock browser if your phone is rooted through titanium or root explorer.
do you have clockwork recovery?

yes, I have CWR installed.
so my phone went bogus because I flashed the quarx rom with kdz updater, now I know.
but what happened to the mobile internet? I had quick settings installed and mobile internet was switched off when the flashing was done. I guess that is the problem, but since then, reinstalling quick settings doesn't show the option to turn mobile internet on or off, and doing a factory reset didn't help either. in the settings, I choose automatic network selection, and it says connected, but no internet whatsoever in browser or market or anywhere...
I have flashed the baltic rom with kdz updater after a factory reset, and it gave an error at the end of the process. since then, I'm stuck at the android screen on boot. I can reach the CWR menu, but flashing anything didn't help with the mobile internet. So I sent the phone to LG pretending the installer crashed during the 2.1 update through their site. hopefully they will wipe everything and I'll have mobile internet again.
anyway, why couldn't I get mobile internet back to work after factory reset + reflash?

[Q] Restore MTP application

Hi,
I am new to this forum and I hope I will find help here.
After I updated to 2.2 I removed the mtpApplication.apk from my phone because it crashed sometimes and was annoying...
I kept a backup of the apk and now I would like to restore the application to update to 2.3.3 via kies. I moved the apk back to system/app but I dont know how to get it running!
does anybody know how I can restore/start this application? I would like to update using kies and therefore it is necessary. Before I removed the app it was started on startup by system.
any suggestions on this?
Download nitrality from the market. That'll let you redownload and install it, along with other goodies.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i assume you are rooted, if no error popped up when you haved moved to /system/app, then select kies in USB settings. and connect to the system which has kies installed with proper drivers for your phone. this would start the app.
@ lycan_codex
I also had the same thought after copying back the apk to system/app, but the application is not coming up although kies is set in usb settings.
@ lttldvl,
I've downloaded nitrality from the market and I could successfully restore the mtp app!!! thanks a lot!! However, it would be interesting why the app is starting, where it registered to launch at startup or when kies is running!?
It should only start when you connect the phone to the PC. If its starting before that... I'm not sure how to correct that aside from task killing regularly.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I dont really care whether the process is running, I only need it to get the new 2.3.3 from kies. Everything looks good, kies provides me with the new update!
thank you very much!
You're very welcome

HELP! Lost all Contacts, Market, Apps, Astro file manager...

Hey everyone,
yesterday I was trying to upgrade my Android to Froyo. I did all the steps, everything was going great and when I had to restore (the final step) after I booted the phone everything looked just like when I bought it. The main differance though, was that all my contacts, messages, the Android Market, Astro File Manager and many other apps were GONE! So far I have managed to restore some of my messages, I've been trying to import/export my contacts, but still no sign of them . The most interesting thing is that when I connect my phone to the PC, I can still see all my pictures, music, apps. Can this be solved?
Oh and I forgot to mention that this appears a lot "The process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly..." I read how to fix it, but I can't since I cannot access my file manager
Please if you have any idea, let me know. Thanks in advance
Hi are you from stock ROM and you upgraded to froyo of which ROM?
I hope you backup first before the upgrade and I hope you did some clean installation.
Let us know specifically your problem.
I noticed that you are new, please take sometime reading the rules and introducing yourself to everyone Topics are in General Section
Didn't u backup before?
Well yeah, that's normal. Every upgrade requires a full wipe which means that all your data will be erased. Didn't you read the warnings?

For contacts you can restore from your google account if you have synced with google..

Yes, as I said I did all the required steps for upgrade (including the backup), but I guess that wasn't successful, even though I was certain I did it right. Anyway, I was trying to upgrade from 2.1 to Froyo.
Yup, I'm new. Thanks for your advice

I'll try that
When Next time u going to install a Rom be sure to,
Sync contacts with Google
Or install titanium backup or any other.
If u backup via CWM or xrecovery, u can restore data...etc..
I always save contacts to sd,or there is option in pc companion.
The contacts file ends with .vcf !

I am such a noob with Android, but I'm learning. Don't judge me

kies wont connect to a custom rom. so..
dint you make a backup using TB or CWM? if not the long way out is to get back to a stock rom, restore those files, and then use TB to backup and restore on new rom.
or check this thread

Thanks for your suggestion nokiaguy.
It could be tedious if i revert back to stock ROM and backup using TB and then flash it again to JBam. The JDK cardextractor app only able to extract contact but it still great. However i need other files too.
Does TB recognize .sbu file type?

I don't think so
One more thing about JBam I can't download attachment from email.
