No 4.0.4 update - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys, i need help with mi Note. I can update it on official 4.0.4. But my Note and Kies tell me no update available. I have this verzion of phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1052225&d=1336641208 . Thank for help.

Use first line on my signature to find latest available ROM and update with Odin.
If there is CSC is not proper you may not get update on kies/OTA.

Hi noker11,
Have you flashed your Note before? If not, i can suggest two options:
1. You can take you phone to the Samsung service center in your area and ask them to check for an upgrade and install it.
2. You can flash a 4.0.4 official ROM to your phone as suggested above. Please be careful while doing this. There are particular steps you will need to follow to avoid the risk of bricking your phone due to the Samsung eMMC bug. It's not that difficult to do and there are many tutorials for the same available on XDA but please keep in mind that this will void your warranty.
If you have already flashed before, then option 2 is the only one.
In case you decide to flash, i would recommend you flash to a SAFE custom kernal and ROM (you can get 4.0.4 with them also) rather than the stock one which are known to be risky for wipes / factory resets etc.

[Q] How to uninstall Clockworkmod ?

Hi, I want to install darkys rom
to do this, i need to install cwm, which looks quite easy to do.
But i need to know how to uninstall it because i dont want to void my phones warranty.
So, can you please help me, how to uninstall Clockworkmod recovery and go back to original recovery (2e) ?
I think you're missing something. I'm sure that installing that custom ROM will void your warranty. I don't know which version of Darkys you're looking at but I expect it includes root acces, likely includes Clockwork Recovery and likely also includes a custom kernel.
What I do (and I think most people who play around with custom ROMs) is install whatever app is needed / wanted. If something goes bust with your phone, you should in most scenarios still be able to flash back a stock firmware and submit it for service. That's exactly what I've done on two occasions (my service issues weren't a result of my flashing) and what I know many others have done.
Good luck.
gtg2,
i know i am installing a rom will void my warranty.
what i can do is, i can flash an official samsung i9000 rom, back to my phone.
but will it also uninstall clockworkmod recovery? or should i do something special?
install samsung firmware with odin, and then go to kies and update the firmware?
how can i go back to official recovery, mine was "recovery 2e" ??????

It's unclear from your messages whether you're still running the original firmware or have upgraded already. If you're on the original, enter *#1234# in your phone's dialpad and post back here what it reports under PDA. Using that, you can find your original firmware for Android 2.1 on http://samfirmware.com and flash it to go back to stock and recovery 2e when you're through playing with a custom ROM. If you're not running your original firmware, you'll need to figure out what your original firmware was (I don' t know what it would have been for your area).
Do you know how to use ODIN to flash firmwares? If not, read up on the reference guide for our phone. I've found it very helpful.

Good luck.
hey Gtg2,
First off, thank you for your helps.
I am sorry i couldnt make it clear, i hope i do now:
I am on custom rom now (Darkys 8.0 rom).
I am new to this and this is my 5th day with my galaxy, i bought it as second hand and 22months more guarantee i had.
I need to know how to go back to original rom and recovery because just incase. If i bring my phone now (with custom rom and cwm recovery) then the service will say your phone is out of warranty. So, i need to know how to go back to make everything original.
I noted my phones codes, here they are:
pda: i9000jvjh1
phone: i9000jxjg2
csc: i9000trcji1
When installing the custom rom, i didnt make a nandroid backup because i already found one in the net. So, i dont have nandroid backup too.
I never used odin nor samfirmware (as i couldnt find anything same with my phones codes there (pda: i9000jvjh1, phone: i9000jxjg2, csc: i9000trcji1 - it was 2.1 Eclair).
I can find a laptop to use odin anytime tho (i am a mac user).
So, as i understand from your post; if i find my stock firmware (dont know where i can) and install it via odin then everything will be original (cwm recovery will gone and recovery 2e will come back) ?????
A friend of mine (not so technical person tho) said that i should use nandroid to back to original firmware then use kies to install newer firmware (downgrade to 2.1 then upgrade to 2.2.1). Should i do this????
just i need to know the process... sorry for long msg.
Thank you...
You wont find the branded firmware that came with your phone unless you have a copy .
Simplest will be to use Odin to flash to an older version Eclair .
Then use the Kies registry hack to upgrade to current software from your provider that will be branded .It would not matter if clockwork was on as its a legitimate product .

Rooting A Stock UK Note - Risks, Removal of Apps and ICS Update Questions

I have a UK Galaxy Note and have a couple of questions:
a) Is 'rooting' as simple as running Easy Rooting Toolkit v1.0? (I have come from flashing a HTC HD2 which took a lot more work than simply clicking on one .exe)
b) Are the risks of 'rooting' as big as 'flashing' a new ROM in that the phone could become bricked (memory corrupted)?
c) For now, I only want to root my phone to remove the pre-installed apps. Would uninstalling any of the apps cause any problems with any part of the stock ROM?
d) Will a rooted phone with uninstalled apps prevent an official ICS update?
Hi there,
Before flashing a new rom get to know a few things first... Go through the thread of the developer who has uploaded the rom, you should know about installation procedure (which is very important) so that you don't end up with a costly paper weight and the features which are available/not working on the new rom. Then you may proceed with flashing a new rom. In your case, I suggest you go through this thread.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025....Here you will find a collection of stock roms with root so that you won't lose the original look of the rom, after which you can remove preinstalled apps with root unistaller etc etc(But be sure you don't touch the system apps which may crash the rom)... In case you want to revert back to the stock rom then you may find this thread handy....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025.....After you flash a rom with root your phone can't get any firmware upgrades and the only option is to revert back to stock rom....Hope you got answers to your questions....
Could someone else please answer my questions specifically?

A)Yeah.Rooting is simple.Just flash a pre-rooted rom(Development section) and flash cf-root kernel via mobile odin. But remember donot use pc-odin to flash any rom other than stockrom and the pre-rooted stock rom.
B)Yeah rooting is as risky as flashing because of involvement of kernel which need to be flashed.
C)Yeah Some apps might .A soft brick at the extreme. So do a nandroid backup and start experimenting with the apps.If it causes problem restore nandroid and you will return to the working state.
D)Nope.Removing system apps doesnot prevent ICS update. But it is not recommended to update whn rooted thru OTA or kies. Its safer to flash stock ICS through PC ODIN.
Finally confirm if your phone is N-7000 because I have not seen a uk-note till now...
A few questions
Hi Guys
I have a few questions to add if that's OK.
I just got my new note.. Sim free and in Ireland I had a Galaxy Nexus before and only had it two weeks, It was already rooted and flashed with another rom when I got it..
I'm not pushed on flashing a rom as i want to get used to the phone first.
I do want to root it to allow me to install apps I have downloaded on a nas drive that I have that I can access from anywhere.
My Model Number is GT-N7000
Android 2.3.6
Baseband N7000XXLA4
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
I'm new to android so if anyone can point me to the easiest way to root and the full benefits that would be great..
Should I Root before I install apps? Or will a root not remove things I have installed? Apps? Pics? Messages ect..
Can I use Easy Rooting Toolkit v1.0?
Thanks In Advance

Thanks for this . Would you think that an official OTA (or kies) ICS update would get ride of some of the pre-installed samsung apps and offer a cleaner stock android? If so, I might hold out for this.

Not sure of using ota or kies because Both are just crap and have never used for ages!!!!ODIN the best way to flash any stock rom.So through odin,Your old samsung apps are replaced with new ones but not user apps as far as this new ICS goes. But it is all good to do a factory reset after flashing any rom to avoid any problems later. But by doing this, you lose all your user apps

official upgrade

I have not as yet received Jelly bean update in India. I hope India will receive it soon. In the mean while I have few questions.
1. Is it necessary to start the phone in touchwiz launcher to receive official update in Kies. or any launcher will do?
2. there are many official updates 4.1.2 floating around. (Mostly one with various versions). if I am fade up of waiting, and update to one these updates, will Kies still suggest the officila update when it is officially released? or will i have to keep on flashing older version and keep on checking?
I hope there are answers to this, as this is a continuously nagging problem.
1. Any launcher will do it
2. If u flash a custom rom,u will not get any update..U need to download the official rom and flash it through odin
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
its not out in india, at least for csc, own risk, root, efs backup(on and off the phone) and then try other csc rom, agsin own risk and woiding warantee
csc questions
Hi!
new to flashing. have only flashed once hence many doubts. I have received many answers on XDA forum, without asking questions. so I am sure I will receive answers after asking questions.
Are CSC files for every update different, or same for a region. For example, will csc of ICS be flashed with JB update?
best use the one with rom, have efs backup of original condition on and off the phone, only one good one needed from before flashing any rom (do need root, own risk). And then you can always go back should you loose emei and updatability.
at own risk

[Q] gingerbread stuck

I bought a s advance from oman(asian arab country) it is on gingerbread and when i check for updates no update is being shown? Are there other models of s advance with no update from gingerbread? If so the rooting and flashing rom procedure are same or different?

Hi there.
1. It's necessary to note that samsul not do the update again on device S Advance through direct ota for those who still use the stock Gingerbread (GB). While still using the stock GB I once never get a firmware update but only minor updates. BUT you can to do firmware updates manually, by downloading firmaware directly from some of the sites that provide specific firmware for your country, such as: sammobile*com, samsung-updates*com.
Note: I assume if you expect an update to a firmaware. But if you run into problems updates an application from playstore, then I suggest you to do a wipe applications through: settings - application - select playstore and wipe data. Then try reboot. But if it still doesn't work then, try to wipe data / factory reset through default recovery.
2. If you still want to use the stock GB and want to root your device, then you can follow a guide on the thread here. You can try some of the menu that is available there may exist that are suitable for firmware are you using now. Honestly I never tried it.
3. For flashing method is the same on every device model samsung, using Odin application. For the method of rooting the device janice as far as I know have several methods, depending on which firmware you use now. If you are using firmware Stock GB then you can follow the above method. But if you use the stock firmware Jelly Bean (JB) then you can use the method on a thread here.
Hopefully it helps & Good luck.
So the matching firmware i download i can flash it using odin without needing root or anything?and if i dont update and root gingerbread, can install cm11 from gingerbread?
The end result im looking for is cm11 running on my device. Your help is much appreciated
