Hi guys, I have had a problem recently with my home button. I'll press it and it may work sometimes but not always. And sometimes the recent app page pops out of nowhere and I go back to the home screen without me doing anything. It seems to me like the key press is registered without my pressing it. It may not be a software fault, as I was handling the phone with wet hands last night but the problem only arose in the morning. I have a lot of trouble operating CWM as a result, with me pressing all the wrong options. Is there a way to disable the home button completely so I can use softkeys? Thanks
PS I've tried searching the fixes and all of them are software fixes.
Try the cm9 together with the softkey patch

Thanks However can you provide a link for the one you would use? I tried searching but the only one I found for SGA was for the cm9 nightly and true enough it wouldn't boot when I tried it on rc1 or rc2

The volumes key still are hard key. As we used it in cwm recovery I think it could be done by mod.

My buddy dropped off his touchpad to have me check into Android for it. After getting it into usb screen, I'm pretty sure the "center" button isn't working and is permanently stuck with the usb screen. I noticed the "center" button wasn't having any affect on the touchpad before getting it into the usb screen, but didn't think about it... Guess I'm going to have to hope it dies overnight and try to figure out the "center" button later. Any thoughts on either situation if it doesn't die by tomorrow?
hold down the power and bottom home button for about 20 secs, the touch pad will reboot and be out of the USB mode.
Luckily it died over night and booted up normal this morning. I'll check the home button again but pretty sure it isn't working. I tried that numerous times last night for several different amounts of time with no change. Just hoping it doesn't get stuck again when I try to load cm7 on it.

Well as long as the center/home button isn't registering as being pressed when it's not, you should have no problems loading android. Just be sure that if you load any other rom other than CM7/CM9 that you rename the file to include update- in front of the filename, and all should load correctly.
Actually loaded everything last night and it worked perfectly! It's pretty rad so far. Found out the button works if u press on the very bottom right of the button. Thanks for the help!

Studacris' reply is probably going to be your quickest method of getting there. You can also take a look at the ideas in the "Captivate Connection Issues" thread - there are some download mode suggestions that don't require buttons.
About the power bottom easy to replace go down and find the power bottom issue... : )

My wife has the s5839i which I rooted and installed SGS3 v4.0 on.
I also installed CWM Recovery too.
Everything was working fine for around 3 weeks and then last night, she was playing a game which became sluggish and caused the phone to become none responsive. She took her battery out and popped it back in again and when she did... this happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHz0z7Fkpeg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Now, last night, it was still booting but thw boot logo never disappeared although a small strip at the top was visible which was displayed correctly. You could just see the clock and battery as well as media scanner running / compleated. Then it would say something about low memory, the screen would go blank and then that was that.
The screen was none resposive nor were the menu or back buttons. I did get 'some' luck with the menu and volume buttons but the only one which always works is the power button.
Download mode and Cwm recovery do not work HOWEVER, by removing the battery, then plugging in the usb cable then pressing power, volume + & - for 3 seconds followed by only keeping hold of volume + & -, then pressing volume + once then menu. It detects the phone in oden 3 (not 4)
I managed to flash the stock firmware which I have done at least 6 times now using different techniques including using the .pit file but now the phone is just stuck on a boot loop and still looks the same.
Anyone ever seen this before or know what to do next other than launch it out of the window?
Thanks
Chiller.

Hi Chillerhippie, you should ask your questions about S5839i in the S5830i/M/C subforo . Good luck.
