Thunderbolt's version of Skype WITH VIDEO is now available.
http://www.droid-life.com/2011/04/11/download-skype-with-video-on-android/
It won't directly install for some reason (some how locked to the Thunderbolt?)
Would be real nice on the Atrix. Wish I could help more, but I'm just a dummy.
Thank you all very much. I bow to all your great feats.

i took a quick look... it appears that it would not be an easy & quick fix / rebuild i dont think, the entire program is written to use and be depended on <uses-library android:name="com.htc.device" />... before taking on this project id wait out as skype said that att was suppose to get releases of its video call first so id think we cant be to far behind
For anyone interested, here is the deodexed apk decoded and built with apk-tool.
Note: This cannot be installed yet.

it doesn't work because it was not made for this phone. even if it did install, it wouldn't work with our camera because moto uses its own camera driver since froyo doesn't have one (gingerbread will). htc uses its own FFC driver as well.

Because they contain drivers for all the phones they know of with FFCs I would bet.
Could it be that because att doesn't have 4g yet, Skype is holding out?
I apologize If I posted this in the wrong forum. It seemed logical for me to put it here...

Probably right. Here is Motorola's API:
http://developer.motorola.com/docstools/library/motorola-front-facing-camera-api/
It is so frustrating that using the same system (android) and also having a front camera but we cannot use the same app (skype with video).
yup but that was specifically develpoed for the thunderbolt, I assume if it does get officially launched with it, it will be a matter of time before that spreads to being on other devices (much like when they launched skype in the first place on android) the key question is will they fix the sound issues that moto's config gives these voip programs.

I'm guessing no, but for reasons other than the camera driver.

as I learned in the (otherwise useless) motorola atrix dev conference, the FFC driver for the atrix is written BY motorola. Android 2.2 does NOT have a standard FFC driver and so every phone that has an FFC and is running 2.1 or 2.2 is using their own FFC driver. That is why Tango and Qik did not work for the Atrix immediately when it was released, and Qik had to release an Atrix-only version of the app.
When gingerbread comes across all devices, it will have a standard FFC driver. But until then, every company running 2.2 uses their own and that is why these aren't compatible apps.

More than likely, it's because AT&T didn't want Skype to release it yet.. the carriers have a surprising amount of influence on app developers. Think of how the Inspire and Atrix still don't have HSUPA enabled whereas the iPhone 4 has had it since its release. My guess is they don't want to overload their already fragile network

If your using the build in your sig then I am running the same build and skype is on my device. Did you perhaps change your density? I read this prevents many apps from showing or from being downloaded.
Hm. What should the density be so that I can download it? I think I played around with it at some point. I don't remember what it was originally though.
240 is standard, if you look in the nand thread for americandroid there are instructions in the OP on how to change for reference.

It runs fine in 167, 192 and 217. I never had problems with Market not letting me get apps other then the new market crap that's going on. Then again, I'm running a different ROM then y'all.
Thanks for your help! I used an app to temporarily change the density. That way I could install it. Had my old density back after a reboot and skype still works.
Android Police got a leak off the apk on from ICS.

having the same problem. would love to see this working but i cannot figure out the fc issues either. tried clearing data after signing in and a restart and still fc's. even tried pushing to system/app. someone help us )

Actually on the Eris people have gotten it to work but with different roms. Also if thats true why would the Google+ and new market ICS leaks install an work?
+1 here! I have tried all current versions (i.e. 4.0.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.1.5) I can use version 3 with no problems. I have tried upgrading and on a fresh install. I have also tried clearing data and allowing sync as was suggested in the apps thread. It seems the Hero is the only one FCing. If anyone figures out a work around please let me know.
same problem here
Looked around on other forums, I was amazed, almost every phone had a fix for this... maybe our phone's finally obsolete... I hope not though.

Was the issue with other phones similar to ours (i.e. FCing)? If so what was the issue and/or work around? Maybe we could try to find a work around ourselves!? I wonder if V. 4 requires a newer version of OpenGL. I know the previous versions required V. 2.0 of OpenGL??? Let me rip apart the apk and see what I can find.

Yes, the majority deleted the old music.apk then pushed the new apk to system/app and changed the permissions. I tried this, didn't work... Maybe OpenGL is the issue, I know the LG optimus subforum has it worked out, not sure what OpenGL version their phones run. But if you find anything I'll be glad to help test!

Well I looked at the apk and V.4 calls for OpenGL V. 131072 and according to my phone running FauxICS beta 2 I have version 65537. Not sure if that is an issue or not. I also noticed "android:hardwareAccelerated="true". I changed the OpenGL version in my build.prop to match version 4 but in the end it still force closed. Then I tried changing the hardware accelerated to false but that made no difference. I'll look and see if I can find anything else but does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

Anybody had any success getting the market version installed? I saw back in May it was pretty easy to do (change the opengl line in build.prop), but when I tried that today, it still wouldn't let me install through market.

Not to resurrect a dead thread, but it's suddenly become relevant again. My non-market APK just auto-updated to the market version 4.1.513, and it works flawlessly.
So that's cool.

I'm considering upgrading from the OG Atrix to the Atrix HD but I need to have a working lapdock for work. I use citrix to access my work computer and am worried about the up-scaling issues. (or if the dock will be recognized) I saw that the Atrix HD worked with ICS but there was some conflicting posts about the official JB update. Any information would be great. Thanks.

Just tried it, same thing as the ahd rom... JB doesnt stretch the picture properly. Different in CM10, it just wont turn landscape whatever you do, even if you force it, it will show landscape in portrait mode.
You guys wont believe what I found... its actually an android-wide issue, Google has royally f***ed up all HDMI screen detection and stretching other than 720p and 1080p in JB, I'm not that smart to say if its a configuration or kernel issue though.

Question - there is the Mexican retail stock ROM on the development forum that is 4.1.2, is there a possiblity that it will work properly? Is it worth $25 to find out? I only ask because there is a garage sale page out on Facebook that my wife subscribes to and someone is getting rid of a mint condition unit.
No it doesn't work.
But yes, you can go back to 4.0 and it will work there.
Should we assume moto isn't going to fix the issue?
Maybe in their next phone if it has hdmi out, but even thats a stretch.

i have a lapdock for the ATRIX 4G modded to work with ATRIX 2, after i got the Atrix HD it still works with it... with Stock 4.1 BUT the celphone screen stays ON it doesnt work like with the old ATRIX 2 where i could set it to show screen in the laptdock only saving the phone from overheating... Anyone knows a way to make the Phone to poweroff screen while leaving lapdock on?, The other issue i have is with the resolution it seems the default table mode in the ATT 4.1.x is with a resolution smaller than 720p and it isnt filling my screen well.

1, You need to go back to android 4.0 for the screen to not stretch.
2, Delete the updater apk so it doesn't nag you go back.

I was searching the updater.apk path to rename it and i found this:
cbrunner said:
Yes, you're right. That was dumb on my part.
My phone just did this again. The only thing I changed in this situation was the renaming of Updater.apk. So, either my device is defective or renaming Updater.apk somehow kills the phone eventually, but not immediately after you rename it. Just FYI in case anyone else thought about doing this.

Looks like they removed the 1440 option. Its gone for me too.
Yep ... it's gone!
Reinstall the earlier leak? Glad i kept it.
I had crash issues with a new update like a weekago. They probably removed that to fix the issue. Install the YouTube apk that had it before it got removed.
Not even worth downloading the old APK.. at this time. 1440 videos are so rare at the moment. Besides, the new update fixes the resolution selection bug. So I'm happy with the status quo . When 1440 becomes more mainstream I'm sure it will be back. For now, I have no need for it.
