Best ROM for Milestone A853 (sholes)? - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

What would be the best ROM to use on my Motorola Milestone A853? Looking for something stable anything from Android 2.3 to Android 4.0.
Currently using: CyanogenMod 7.2.0

Preferably something that can play games and yet still be over Android version 2.3.

Look at steel droid. Good dev and still being worked on.
Or go to CM7 and overclock a bit with a different kernel.
Plenty of options and info out there, just start reading.
-CM7 on DInc2

Cyanogen Mod is one of the most popular android roms/mods. They have versions for a variety of devices. The most current version I believe is 6.1 but CM7 is currently being tested on some devices. Supposedly CM7 will be released for Nook Color as well though we haven't received any beta information as far as I know.
CM6 uses Froyo and CM7 uses Gingerbread which is why it is really exciting.
Its my understanding that the only thing holding CM7 from the nook is the lack of the source code for the latest update. As soon as version devs have that in hand, we should see a nook color version.
thanks you two, that clears it up quite a bit!

[Q] Best custom OS for g1?

My ol' G1 has some version of CyanogenMod that is crashing. It's quite old and probably froyo. This runs very slow. I'm looking for a recommendation for a good OS to throw on there that's now too slow.
depends what you like.. froyo, donut, gingerbread????? lol some good GB and Sense roms out that are pretty stable now too so just check out G1 development section and look at the latest posts with [ROM] in it lol if you just want an all around stable rom i would go with froyo by lazslo or xillius donut1.6 great stable roms with the right kernels

it's not an ICS
thks folks!
will be very nice for my miles!
big deal for milestone
what features do you expect from ICS?
i really don't get it
compatibility
i don't understand. compatibility with what?
compatibility with new applications designed for ICS
Time to bury the dream: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5181/cyanogenmod-9-should-support-most-cm7compatible-devices
While these newer chips will get early attention, Cyanogen said that support for most of the devices compatible with the Gingerbread-based CyanogenMod 7 would be forthcoming - he singled out Qualcomm's QSD8250 and the Google Nexus One as examples of what the team would be targeting on the low-end. Unfortunately for some, he also singled out the original Motorola Droid (which uses an older TI OMAP3430 and just 256MB of RAM) as a device which definitely wouldn't be supported, advising Droid owners that it is "time to upgrade."

From the beginning, Milestone users must knew that the CM9 won't get it... Small amount of RAM (with compare to other phones), maybe Milestone/Droid 2 will have a CM9

milestone doesn't have an official cyanogen rom, there only KANG's. It was already said that nadlabak will try to boot ICS on milestone, so will have to wait and we 'll see what we will get
ok, maybe he'll boot ICS on Milestone, but it will be fully functional? Do you want newest ROM with lags and restart? Or max 30MB free RAM and nothing more? At this time, I don't see ICS on milestone for today using
no, i don't. i think that cm7 with GB is max what we can get on milestone.
and as i've already said - i don't see any features of ICS that will make my phone better.
I fully agree with you. No CM7 at all,any ROM based on Android 2.3.7 it's enough for the stone

Maybe CM9 wouldn´t work on Milestone/Droid, but G1 runs with ICS too. It is laggy and slow but it works on phone with less RAM then Droid/Milestone.
main question is will it be usable on milestone?
g1 has unlocked bootloader and porting ics on it is a bit easier

[Q] what is the best version of rom CM7 now for now?

I have not followed to update rom for my device for a half year
So I don't know what is the best rom for Optimus 2X now
I am using CM7 and I feel like I like it, I get used to it.
So that's why I am looking for only CM7 rom.
However, if you have any other rom that you think it's better. Please suggest me, and please tell me why is it better.
Thank you.
this is my device information
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: 1035.21_20110405
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.41-vorkKernel
Mod version: CyanogenMod-7-06212011-NIGHTLY-Optimus2X
Any of them I need to change for a better performance, please tell me.
ps. I suffer the freeze problem sometimes. For now, I use it only for game and chat. When I play a game, I usually suffer that the game hangs, and popup "Force Close"
And sometimes phone automatically shut off.
I was bored, until I feel nothing about it...... (too often until I buy new phone to use as phone, and use 2X as a video game device)
Look for temasek's Kang rom in the Development forum. It's quite stable, has a great performance and battery life is good too.

If he's using a samsung galaxy then his signature is true, also!
Damn your rom is ancient lol. Upgrade to latest kang / nightly stat!
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
You might also want to change your kernel. Vorkkernel is outdated, try either ETaNa Kernel or Ironkernel. You should be able to find them in the dev section.
yeah, I know that my rom and anything of that is really old because of I play lots of game and don't want anything to be erased. Also, that time the new rom update too fast. I was bored of changing rom every 3 days. So I stopped following all of these and keep using it.
And now, I think the time has come to modify everything.
Can you guys tell me the best version of everything for me to upgrade it.
e.g. Firmware (my 2x is still V10B)
Baseband
Kernel
and Rom
if you specify version for me, it would be much faster for me to find it
thank you
Allright,
Firmware: Either Android 2.3.X or 4.0 (your choice, however 4.0 is still in alpha phase, so not everything is working perfectly)
Baseband: Different for each and every phone. Do you have good signal and call quality right now? Then there is no need to change your baseband. Make sure to have a matching RIL file with your BB. Download one from the GetRIL app.
Rom: For Android 2.3.X (a.k.a Gingerbread) I would recommend temasek's latest CM7 KANG, or the latest CM7 nightlies, because they are the best and most recent. Temasek can't continue his CM7 work anymore unfortunately, but his Kangs are rock-solid. (Link in signature)
For Android 4.0 (a.k.a Ice Cream Sandwich) you can choose between the latest RC'S CM9 SelfKANG (link in signature) or Owain's CM9 KANG. (dev section) They're both pretty new and are quite stable despite being in an alpha stage. However, not everything is working perfectly, but I can tell you once everything works, CM9 will be much better than CM7.
Kernel: If you use CM7, you can choose between many kernels. The best ones I would recommend are the ETaNa Kernel (link in signature) and Ironkernel. These kernels are the most recent and have the best performance. Unfortunately the dev from Ironkernel, SetIron, left XDA so you cant follow the development over here.
For CM9 there is only one custom kernel available, which is also Ironkernel from SetIron. (link in signature) Although I must say that it's not fully stable because CM9 being in an alpha stage.
Hope this helped
For me, temasek's latest CM7 KANG is the best ROM so far.
However, seeing you havent change ur ROM for the last 6 months and familiar with nightlies, I would recommend you to update to the latest CM7 nightlies.
Just as simple as that. no need to think and you will find your O2X in its best performance.
I recommend Temasek's Kang. I started using is a few weeks ago and it's the best GB rom I've used. I'd still be on it, if I hadn't tried CM9.
thank you all you guys, I will try it soon.
temasek has stopped kanging? Now what?

Go for the CM7 nightlies or for CM9.

[Q] ICS for Droid 3 Recommendations

I've been running Liberty 2.0 on my D3 for quite a while now. Starting to get jealous of everyone who's one or even two builds up on me.
I looked into what ROMs were available for the D3 for ICS, specifically because some of the custom apps I use are not compatible with JB yet. I found HashCode's CM9 build and his AOKP build (which could be the same thing, and I just don't understand.
I also posted once before where someone recommended Gummy for the Droid 3, but I could never nail down which version was the most up-to-date and was working the best. I learned that they stopped working on the Gummy ROM over the summer, but if they had a working build, I would love to try it out.
All I am looking for is the most complete build of ICS on the Droid 3. I use this phone as my primary device, so I would like to be able to use the camera, internet, data, etc.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please feel free to recommend what you use/have used.

There is no 100% working ICS rom as of now, but with Kexec they have a custom kernel booting and building from there. I would settle into a GB rom for stability/everyday use and have either an ICS or JB rom just to test. You can check the development forum for the current active CM9/CM10/AOKP by Hashcode, the latest CM10 (Jelly Bean) Kexec rom only seems to have a sleep issue and no camera, everything else seems fine so far. Safe Strap 3.05 lets you have up to 5 bootable systems without swapping nandroid backups; Stock + 4 custom rom slots.
http://blog.hash-of-codes.com/how-to-safestrap/ Here is Hash's website about safestrap and to download.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804665 Here is the thread about Hash's current work on Kexec and available roms. Read up some of the last ~20 pages for current rom and information on it, just make sure to learn the new safestrap before playing around.
As for other roms; The Gummy team split up as I recall, no more Gummy roms...
Personal main usage; I use Maverick ROM 4.0, good battery, good tweaks, looks nice.. version 4.5 has overclock, but a bug in it causes battery drain so stick with 4.0.
